ummm.....1.Fighting Games being centered around this huge tournament that everybody wants to be apart of....2.Fighting Games are full of racial stereotypes and don't represent certain nations properly at times.....etc, etc.....
They aren't really cliches either. A cliche would be, instead of a stereotype, a character type: for example, the wandering warrior, the hot blooded bruce lee clone, the chick, the big guy wrestler, those are cliches. Then again, without those, the game would be stale as shit.
I think they've just become the staple of fighting games in general, like they've actually become a mechanic to designing and developing fighters.

Shouldn't all games come with a fresh feel instead of seeming like a repackaged and redesigned idea???
Titiln said, May 05, 2010, 12:09:08 amyeah having a chick in a fighting game is really clichewhat the fuckNah I'm talking about the token one chick with the high speed and low strength. Cammy and Blue Mary balanced it out by having strong power moves along with decent speed.
Titiln said, May 05, 2010, 12:09:08 amyeah having a chick in a fighting game is really clichewhat the fuckWhat he means is Chinese women who are capable of doing Martial Arts along with stuff, and being very combo efficient.Like Chun-Li being a detectiveJam being a cookLitchi being a Scientist/Doctor (can't remember which.)When was the last time a female was the Juggernaut? Also, what I don't particularly like is ShotoClones. Unless I'm playing SF.Heck, we can just refer to TVtropes for all these "tricks" in character designs.
Yeah pretty much. Then again, when I think about it, these aren't really cliches either. TempesT pretty much worded it best.

Nero. said, May 05, 2010, 12:53:20 amWould "token chinese girl" be a more appropriate title?Chinese Female Fragile Speedster would work better.navetsea said, May 05, 2010, 01:21:52 ama hero character, they all just fight craving anarchists, there are no hero among themOk.They're Protagonists.Protagonists can be villians or heroes, or nothing really. They're just the main character.
Nah cause a fragile speedster can be a guy too. Take Chipp from Guilty Gear. Or even Guy. Let's just say pretty much any ninja, Except for Earthquake/big ninjas intended to subvert the character.
Chicks with giant boobz that wears skimpy clothing (Ivy)Games ending where you don't know if it's the true ending.Shitty to no story
If nothing else, I just hate the entire world depends on the outcome of this tournament silliness in KoF, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, etc. I'm also sick of the whole "super monster is the boss, lols" thing (VF5, DOA4, Tekken, SC). For once I'd like a boss who isn't depicted with a girth of energy attacks or eccentric designs. I get that they have to be powerful but c'mon, they're are better ways to do it.And to make this long post even longer, I absolutely hate most bosses that are just a collection of the main casts moves (looking at you Seth, Inferno). Feels lazy.

the bosses in all games should be kinda overpowered, cliche, difficulty curve, you breeze through the whole game then BOOM sub boss - high powered. BOOM BOOM real boss - god like
I don't think they shouldn't be over powered, its just how they convey the overpowered. Geese always felt like a good balance to me.I forgot to add teen/male protagonists. Not always the case, but usually is.
On a related note, three words:Token.Magical.Girl.Athena Asamiya and Ingrid can suffocate on a plethora of phalli and expire amidst conflagration.
Personally, Im tired of seeing the Bruce Lee clones. Im surprised nobody has made a Chuck Norris clone.
Allen Snider from SFEX seems to have a hint of young beardless Chuck Norris in him.I'm surprised there's practically no Undertaker homage in any fighting game I can think of though.I have to agree with the loli proliferation thing - should be at most left for secret/bonus matches with some restrictions (ex: no specials/supers, throws only, etc..) or something like that. Not an actually hated recurring thing, bu it's a bit odd - most games use a tournament settin where it makes sense to have rounds and time limits, but usually the final boss is fought outside the actual tournament setting, but those things still apply. I figure a final boss fight to the death or for the fate of the world or whatever shouldn't have rounds or time limits, that sort of chivalry isn't to be expected. Unless it's Samurai Shodown and there's a referee watching that can kick everyone's asses.
dunno after seeing some who kicks so much ass known only as BUTTcant seem to see those who can compare anymorecliche' for me would be the distressed cyborg i've lost mi memories boop boop bee boopi must fight and some how my fists pounding into flesh will rejuvenate my memories bee bee boop

It's not new, but I'd like to see one thing LESS.Does time have to stop every time someone does a super?
If you want to see how that turned out for the genre play any SNK fighting game that came out before KOF '97 (with the exception of Breaker's they had the pause, I think).
