Hello everyone, my name is Monty Oum. I've been wanting to get back to this for years now, but despite how buisy I am I really want to make some sprites for Mugen.

If you're not familiar with my work you can check out some of my movies:

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/26450.html
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/32364.html

So anyways I wanna get started animating a sprite pack. And I was wondering what/who should I make? I'm thinking is there some anime/game character you'd like to see in 2d form? Likely it'll be highres and I have some shading techniques I wanna try out as well. I'm thinking the right choices could really put mugen on the map. So who would you like to see?

Any thoughts?

I would go with Raphael or Talim from Soul Calibur. Both would be nice in Mugen. When you get enough suggestion or whatever, you could make a poll about it. ;)

Hi montyoum, I didn't know your work, but from the 2 vids you posted, you surely do some awesome job. :)

One question related to this : are your skills in "spriting" for 3D models, which you'd then render in 2D for Mugen (à la Dragon Claw by Reuben Kee) ? Or do you also sprite 2D sprites in the "regular way" (à la CVS, SF3, KOF12, etc.) ?

For anime/game characters, here is a little list :
- Dante from Devil May Cry.
- Characters from Final Fantasy (Cloud, Auron, Sephiroth, Tifa, etc.)
- Characters from DOA, Tekken or Virtua Fighter.
- Characters from Soul Calibur (bunch of them are really charismatic, such as Kilik or Nightmare)
- Characters from Dragon Ball Z.
- Fate Stay Night characters (Saber notably).

Maybe you could make a list of what you like, and we could chose from there ?

I know your work, welcome to the mugen guild, good spriters are always welcome ( even if the models are 3d the end result are sprites) and I hope you find something you will enjoy making.

Since you already have those models ready you could even try to do a Yuna fighting model for starters? To get an hang of what would look good?
I suggest downloading Dragonclaw for a good example of a 3d modeled character

If I was going for my personal choices, I would go with Ryoga Hibiki or something more unique like Gurren laggan mecha.

Wow. :o Now, THAT is impressive. You did all that by yourself? For a moment there, I actually thought that a game company did the CG scenes! o_O This looks impressive, and I must say that I truly appreciate the time, talent and effort used to make those videos. :2thumbsup:

Of course, I'd be delighted if you could bring some contributions to the world of Mugen. Here are my requests:

First of all, welcome - I loved your work on the Dead Fantasy animations. Great sense of timing and rythm on those!
*downplayed fanboyish wish to see a SNK vs Capcom equivalent goes here and is mentioned no more for the sake of avoiding annoyance*

This part of the forum is usually for projects that have already started, but you can move this topic to Mugen Discussion section, where discussions for suggestions are more likely to fit.

As character suggestions go, a couple that come to mind yet don't exist in proper sprite form so far are:

- Grown-up Jin Chonrei from the Fatal Fury series as seen ni a few Real Bout 2 endings:

Doesn't really exist in this state as a playable character anywhere and SNK doesn't seem likely to continue the FF series anytime soon, so Mugen seems to be the only way to see more of the character in this stage in life, after having been a final boss character and later training with Kim and Tung - the mix of styles can open up some interesting creative possibilities.

- Since you've already worked with Final Fantasy stuff, no character seems more adequate to me than Sabin/Mash from FF6, who has quite a few aspects of actual fighting game characters (such as some moves and their motions: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Blitz_(Final_Fantasy_VI) ). Only the apparently full-screen moves might be tricky to adapt to something usable in a 1-on-1 environment, but with some creative liberties it can probably be done well.
I wouldn't really expect Square-Enix to put a non-main character like this in the likes of a Dissidia or KH sequel, so that's another long-shot wish of mine.

So there's my two cents - I hope you enjoy the experience of working with Mugen, no matter whom you pick to work on - I'm sure everyone will be quite willing to help you with code and whatnot whenever you need it.

Greetings, Monty.
Like many others here, I'm also a fan of your work.

Given your work with Final Fantasy, I'm going to say that I'd really like to see what you would do with the character Rydia from Final Fantasy IV.

Kefka would also be really cool.

In the Dead Fantasy animations, to give summoner (same class/job as Rydia) Yuna an even enough opponent, he had to pit her against lots of Kasumi clones, since the summons were the ones doing the actual fighting there.
I'm not sure how well that'd workin a 1-on-1 setting outside of the occasional special or super, like Donovan's moves in the Darkstalkers/Vampire games.

BTW, I totally forgot to mention a possible suggestion for a character that could use custom sprites: Gally from Gunnm (I'm even more partial to Zechs from the latest Last Order series, but he'd suffer from Sagat eye-patch syndrome).

He is not grown up, Tung is short, therefore practically he is still the same, but on the other hand any new addition to Fatal fury or art of fighting is very welcomed by me cause as you said obviously SNK is not going to continue the southtown story any time soon.

Sure Rydia is mostly known for being a summoner, but don't forget she has other fighting skills as well. She uses whips, can equip daggers, and of course has her black magic. Summons being used only for supers would be fine by me. I'd even wouldn't mind if the Mist Dragon was her only summon.

Hmm i guess as style goes, I'm thinking it'd be nice to make a whole set of characters along the same theme.

I know mugen is about mashing up characters and having anyone you want. But I do like consistency, and say what if I made a sprite pack of about 20-30 characters. Would that be enough for everyone in the community to chip in on making a whole standalone game?

Reu and I were friends, years ago before i started Dead Fantasy & Haloid we messaged back and forth a lot about making a character together. Then the worste happened. Honestly if could go back and put off Dead Fantasy for a year and had made that character we were talking about...

I think his characters were really the best balance of over the top badassness and playability. I'm thinking even of making highres updates for his characters, even though I imagine those sprite set would be enormous especially DC.

I think the easiest set of sprites for me to make would be something like the recent mugen Yuna I've seen. But much better animated (no offense to whomever made it)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44NmyouepAk

The sprite size is decent and it won't require too much post work on my part.

Speaking of which, what would be the best format & dimensions for a sprite pack. I downloaded the most recent Mugen 1.0 and I like what I see. KFM 720 looks to be of a great resolution. It is rediculous of me to think that maybe I could animate a character with the framerate of Cragonclaw, but with the resolution of like BlazBlue? I remember thinking years ago that the file would probably unloadable, but looking at the res of the new mugen, it'd really pimp their new engine. :D I wonder what else Mugen 1.0 is capable of over the old Mugen? Like will it support multiple sprite sets? Say instead of different palettes could it load whole different characters i.e. 2p outfit like how it is in most 3d fighters?

Well hey guys! I'm glad for all the feedback! This is getting me really pumped to make something now! These are some great suggestions. I really think Mugen deserves more attention than it has. I've been working in games for over 2 years now (at Midway and Namco) and I still mention often that the creativity I've seen in mugen trumps alot of what I've seen proffesionally. And that people here are more of a designer than many of the people I've worked with.

I am quite buisy lately with so many projects and like 6 movies to deliver for next year, so please dont' hold me to delivering any of this so soon. But as you can tell I'm always in it for the long run. As soon as I get some tests up I'll post them here.

Now that you can load different palettes on a character mid-match (if you know the classic Samurai Shodown games, it's pretty much something that allows stuff like having skin or clothing colors change on the fly), it's a bit more viable making something like a transforming character.

However, you're still bound to required sprites for things like throws, which are coded in the opponent (and work under the expectation all characters have those get-hurt sprites; this isn't an issue an a standalone game though) - for regular hits there are ways to use different sprites for special "transformed" states, so those are less troublesome.

So in theory now it's possible to pull off something like a Shang Tsung or Street Fighter 2 Rainbow Edition character that transforms into something completely different at will, but whom will appear as its default form when under a custom state (like a throw or hold) by an opponent.
In a "closed" game, however, you can code around that limitation because you know exactly what characters you're dealing with.

BTW, if you're conceiving sprite sheets for characters, the minimum required are mentioned here:

http://elecbyte.com/mugendocs/spr.html

Just about everything else is sort of optional/customiseable, but people tend to expect basics like stance, walking, jumping, walking, dashes, blocking and whatnot. From then on it really depends on how you want them to play.

The thought of a whole line of characters can be impressive, but over the years I've been impressed by many people and things in Mugen, and from what I've already seen from you (really gotta check that youtube link, no access right now), I'm certainly intrigued by what's coming up, regardless of quantity.

Games:

Dante (big favourite for many mugen fans)
Jehuty from Z.O.E (some of your earlier female models reminded me of this, and could prove for some interesting gameplay)

thats all i got so far.

What I'm wondering right now the most is what's the resolution I can get away with for animating some sprites.

I'm getting a pretty good idea now of what character I could make. So some technical help would be really useful right now.

What say if I follow the work folder that comes with mugen 1.0 and use that as a template? Though I'm hoping to do a bit better on the framerate. For example KFM 720 has a run that's 5 frames and I want to make it a 10. Will Mugen 1.0 be able handle me doubling up on the frames?

Also I noticed looking at the Mugen Yuna that there seems to be some dithering. What's the color palette Mugen 1.0 works in?

Edit:
I'm beginning to notice I'm not very good at translating palettes. I wonder if I made a highres set of png's would the talented people here be able to translate that into an SFFs?

It should be able to handle more frames as long as the coding works with it.

Yeah, Mugen running at 60 fps, it should have no problems having 10 frames for a stance. Didn't SF3 have that already anyway.

And if you could sprite in HD, for 720p res, that would be wonderful. :)

So I'm loving the resolution on KFM 720, but for the life of me I can't figure how to translate it to an sff. It'd probably better if someone who's done it before to handle that end. With how buisy I am the less work I have to do on the Mugen side, the more time I have to animate the characters.

If I were to make a simple folder of png's with labeled sequences, pretty much similar to the kfm 720 in the work folder. Would anyone else be willing to translate that into an sff?

I gotcha. But you should look into this program called Fighter Factory from VirtualTek. You can import all the sprites (must be in .pcx format) and then save it as a .sff file. By the way, I have nothing to do right now besides school. I really want to do this!!!

If he doesnt want to take the time to learn how to compile sffs, he shouldnt, that way he can dedicate more of his time to animating.
Anyone willing to code ( and i bet that there would be quite some people willing to) can sff it up easily , since they have practiced it before.

I did indeed get the ffu app. It looks really handy and I'd love to llearn how to use it. It let me import a png file, but then it was all screwed up. Lemme try the pcx format you mentioned, but yea I'm sure theres someone here who can do it better.

I understand that. But me and Monty are kinda the same, we don't mind help, but we also don't mind learning on our own so we can have more experience under our belts.

And also, is it me, or are the online doujin fighting games beginning to rise? (MUGEN, Akatsuki Blitkampf, Big Bang Beat, Vanguard Princess, etc.)

They're more fun to play than the commercial games.

Since when was Mugen an online doujin fighting game?

Also, personally, doujins don't have much lasting appeal for me.

Welcome Monty. Fan of your work (although I had my problems with 3 and 5).

Also I noticed looking at the Mugen Yuna that there seems to be some dithering. What's the color palette Mugen 1.0 works in?

256 colors, including background color. SFF-wise it's been possible for a few years to use files in the actual character that don't share the "main" palette (the one that can be changed for player 2, for example), which is handy for extra effects that are meant to always keep their colors, like say, a character's projectile or special effects added to his moves.

BTW, if you're working with PNG, while previously the SFF was built from PCX files, in the latest versions since Elecbyte returned, PNG can also be used.

BTW, I guess I should have known existing 3D characters were more likely... Heihachi from Tekken in the black outfit would be nice, but the working at Namco thing kinda jeopardizes this, I guess...

You kinda vanished after making a few posts back at RandomSelect.

Important note: You can't use alpha transparency. Clean edges are still a must-have.

I think providing PNG files is still the best solution, rather than an already compiled SFF. Each creator has his own habits when it comes to organizing an SFF, with various group numbers and all, and people have various ways of handling palettes.
My 2 cents.

Anyway, if you still wanna do the job yourself, you'll have to apply an identical palette to all of your sprites before turning them into PCX, setting the last color of the palette as the transparent one (use shiny pink or green for this color).

Hmm...

It seems I would be the one person who suggests this: Rei Ayanami, from Neon Genesis Evangelion, preferably in CvS or pre-2001 KOF style. If you can't do that, there's a sprite in my avatar (of yours truly, I might add) that I'd like to see if you could replicate in a different pose or something.

Hey guys thanks for all the feedback. The info is really helpful.

Ok so I decided what I'm going to do. I'm going to infact do this PNG folder with HD Sprites and animate at 30fps.

As for characters I think I'll start off with something simple and do MasterCheif and Samus. The reason being is that they're pretty much non deformable characters that have no form of cloth or dynamic objects. This will make it and easy sell cause it'll be ok for the characters to feel intentionally "stiff."

Mind you this is going to be my first run so I'm definitely NOT going to stop there. After getting some experience it'll make it more worthwhile once I get to even more characters.

Also the whole Master Cheif Samus thing will really garner some good attention. I think when a mugen MC & Samus hits the web it'll really turn heads. Which in turn results in more people being interested in Mugen which ultimately is a good thing.

I'm going to get started with some here and there stuff. This should go fast so long as I find time to work on it. I'll keep you posted.

aww i was gonna vote for dante but the reason for not making him is rather understandable, maybe thats the reason reu went for a robotic type of char too

neways as for the .sff file i would still like to suggest you try it and even more go all the way to the .air file which is where we make the animations in frame by frame style (at least make a couple of animations and add a few sprites to the .sff and leave the rest for whoever takes over the proyect later on) ive made a few characters and given the knowledge you already have a few days should be enough to understand them and i say this because it will give you a much better understanding of how mugen/2d fighters work and in the end save you a lot of work while making the huge amount of sprites you will require also will translate in an overall better result once the coder kicks in cause from the start you will have an idea of how the end result will look instead of spriting in the dark, your previous and amazing works show a very talented person so this will be baby stuff for ya and heck you might even like it

i know plenty of all this and im more than willing to guide you as much as u want messenger would be a good way ive helped quite a few fellas that way b4, trust me its way easier than it looks at first as many creators here can confirm

Don't fret! I think Dante is a great idea. I just don't think I should do him right away. In fact I just noticed the Vergil that's available that done really well and figure I should wait til I'm better at this before I try it.

I do feel like trying to make my own sff & air file.

Ok one quikc question is do you use photoshop or painst shop pro to export said pcx/png's?

Another quick question (which'd probably just be better if I find the maker himself) why did the guy who made the DMC3 vergil go through all the trouble of filtering him to look 2d? I notice it looks like he either used a veiwer or something to get his ingame animations and then rotoscoped them for a more 2d look.

Probably to give him more of a natural look when standing next to 2d backdrops.
Check up with cyanide and other people on the help area if you are interested in going deeper into sffs and airs.

Photoshop always seemed to me to be the main tool used for paletezing.
Also, if you feel like starting out with something other smaller than a character, this tutorial will come in handy.

Cybaster goes into details about applying palettes that could be useful after a while.

My only advice is to start small and then increase your scope as you get more comfortable, coders are sure to pop up with time.

Both can do basically the same things. My personnal preference go toward Paint Shop Pro, on which I have all my experience, but they both can export PCXs - PNGs can just be ignored, since ultimately you need paletized PCXs, FF/FFU being able to use PNGs is an unnecessary step and can cause incorrect conversions, and PCXs can be manipulated just the same anyway.

If you already have the sprites, all you have to worry about is that they all share the same colors. Both Paint Shop Pro and PhotoShop can extract the palette - one in .pal format, the other in .act format, but there are simple tools that can make the conversion both ways anyway, so there's no problem here, it's only a matter of your personnal preference.

As for what I was saying earlier about PCX vs PNG, it's not a problem if you have PNGs, you can just batch convert to PCX (with any tool like PSP, PS, IrfanView...) and then use another simple tool, PCXClean, to apply the palette to all the sprites in a batch. All you have to worry about is that all the sprites have the same color, and that you obtain one palette with all the colors. The rest can be batched.
If I struggled to the end of my determination, to the end of my way of life with my followers, if the result is ruin, then this ruin is inevitable. Grieve. Shed tears. But you cannot regret.

I guess a question of taste too is relevant. As in what do you think people prefer? I mean I like a good render as much as the next guy, but I do also love 2D animation very much. I'm big on consistency too which has me thinking eventually I'll be pumping out characters in that we'll have a whole set that match. Hell I'd even want to go into making stages too if that's the case.

Also thanks for ppointing out that turtorial. It answered ALOT of questions for me right off the bat. I did a quick run on a test base body that I've been building for universal humanoids (please don't mind the nekedness :D)

now give it fluttering petals covering the naughy bits , apply a grassy ground from which she erupts and a soft changing background that cycles between hues and tada, you have a nymph stage =p

Also, dont mind my edit, but just for casual work browsing I prefer to spoiler nudity and warn in the posts.

While consistency is good, finding a medium that works fine for your own tastes is what matters most here, since you will be the poor guy burning his eyes through tenths of those anims. I like the cell shades.. hmm.. here, check this one out, it was done through normal animation

I don't think Fighter factory can deal with sffv2 yet. So, I don't know if it's possible to even look at his .sff in the current version of Fighter Factory. I haven't tried, though, but it's likely that is the case. >_>

FF/FFU can't manage sffv2, no.
Regardless, Mugen 1.0 is compatible with WinMugen characters, so making it sff v1 works just as well.

ah yes i remember that feeling, told ya you would end up liking it, careful it gets addictive XD

theres a bit of a later event here in mugen you might or might not know. Elecbyte which is the company that originally made mugen dissapeared years ago and no news from them ever since then a couple months ago and out of nowhere they came back AND updated the software after over 10 years?? the point is the update rendered many mugen creation softwares useless the most user firendly apparently, i havent made anything with the new version yet but may i suggest, and i would like input from the guys who have indeed expertice on the new version here first please, you to learn the basic bits you need on the previous version and with more user firendly software such as fighter factory early versions (new is compatible with old neways).

your questions got answered b4 but yes i do use photoshop and i preffer it over paint shop pro as i find it even easier to handle format changes and indexing stuff to 256 colors and to edit effects as well

the dude who made that virgil iirc made custom sprites with no 3d base but 3d render is your specialty and i say stick to that as freshness is what mugen needs, now i remember you saying 30fps and got me thinking about the filesize, there is a previous 3d rendered character with a much higher than average framecount (usual is 700-1000 sprites per character id say) who is not high res and still has a monster filesize and yours IS high res so its a decision of sprite quality or animation smoothness, to be kept in mind ;)

PD. the madness dude with the monster dick was hilarious

[/quote]

That's interesting. Looking at the virgil sprites I'd swear they're rotoscoped of the ingame anims. For one I'm very familiar with the anims, and I notice that not only do the sprites have the same clipping errors on his jacket as they do in game, the'res also the exact same bone number & positions for joints and the joints on hits coat. There's no way you can get hand anim with that level of tweening simply by hand. I'm curious now how they came to be cause I've also never heard of a DMC3 veiwer.

Oh speaking of viewers, I notcie a few threads out there as well about using the Yaz0r viewers for Kingdom hearts & FF characters. I wonder has there been anything generated off of this?

A couple FFXI characters were generated, but since they werent optimized or anything, not much was done afterwards, sometimes there are people with the technical expertise to produce the models, but they arent good at animating or collecting the animations. Theres also the whole "generic" feel that FFXI chars have, they gather less attention than specific "hero" chars that would have people leaping over them to try to code them ... but that is true anywhere, you are bound to have more people trying to sprite/code new versions of ryu and Akuma than Adon and Cody.

I've been meaning to put some more research into AltanaView, the program that allows you to view character animations from FFXI before someday creating a topic on the matter, but since I'm not done yet and this came up, here's what I can provide to help:

- AltanaView: http://longtear.hp.infoseek.co.jp/altanaview_en.html - As mentioned above, this lets you see the game's character models and animations, including more unique NPCs and creatures. Apparently, it also lets you customize a character's gear for looks without the in-game concerns of class/job restriction, but I'm yet to test that (most of the times when I'm at the computer I'm playing the actual game, haven't tried running both it and the viewer at once). But it won't work alone...

- Final Fantasy XI 14-day trial: http://www.finalfantasyxi.com/ - Apparently, you can use the viewer with this.

If that mix-and-match ability applies (I think I read about the possibility in some FFXI forum where they were commenting on sigs made with the viewer), then it becomes possible to put together some neat sets - for example the Igqira Weskit body piece has a cool tatoo pattern to it with a bit of a shamanic feel to it, but it's only for black mages - something that could go well with it also as a shamanic-ish piece could be the Tiger Mask, which is exclusive to some far more physically-inclined jobs - and both would go well with one of the model 6 male faces. This can be applicable to any playable race model in the game.

A more mundane-yet-neat use for this would be to take a player character model that looks enough like an established FF character (this will almost inevitably be a human character) and use an armor set that resembles that character's - not that hard, considering, for example, the Dragoon artifact armor set was made to be a reference to Kain Highwind from FF4.
Or you could use captures of the same character character using the Paladin and Dark Knight sets and pull off something like a 2D fighter version of Cecil's Dissidia transforming fighting style.

Just because most released FFXI-capture character have used artifact armor sets in a fixed way, doesn't mean the viewer doesn't allow for more interesting possibilities.

 • I like absurdist comedies and epic things.

Well then, if you ever want to do any stages, here's a little something I found that might come in handy:

http://kiwi-rgb.deviantart.com/art/Pixel-a-Capcom-background-133030150

For the record, I also am rather fond of 2-D animation (especially the Capcom style ;D).

ok so after running some tests...

how does a 126mb .sff sound? Crazy no?

That's a highres character with about 3,000 frames (dragon claw has about 2,800 frames including fx etc.)

My pipeline is coming together very quickly btw. I have a base model built and running in categories while using the same character rig. Also I've thus kept a move library for the last 4 years of animating so churning out anims will be a very fast iterative process.

I'm of course concerned about the filesize. But man the quality! I'm going to be going on thanksgiving break soon so I'll have a few night from work to turn out some stuff. But really you have to see it in motion.

Weird thing is when loading up the game it doesn't hang up much at all. I'm not sure if it's the new engine or what, but the old mugen for me used to hang up realy bad whenever I had a lot of characters. And this is running on my 3 yr old laptop so it seems pretty good. Although I can't be sure if there's something I'm not anticipating. But I mean what if I madea full game with like 20 character each about 100mb? is that really that crazy?

Well, 126 megs is a bit crazy-sounding, but people are willing to put up with it when you've got good quality to back it up (I know I am).

Good to see you over this side, Monty. Can't wait to see what's up.

In animation, as you probably know, there are frames that can be deleted without lowering much the quality of the final work, you can probably shave a few megas off your sprite sets after you start keeping just the key frames and enough of the rest to have a nice flow.

I had some more ideas that just popped into my mind recently, and I'm ashamed I forgot about them. :(

The final boss of Okami and Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Yami, would be a great boss in MUGEN...

But even more interesting would be the heroine of Okami, Amaterasu. :)

Oh, and I think some would rejoice to see some Movie Transformers like Blackout in MUGEN. XD

But among ALL the characters in videogame history, one stands above all thoce characters as one that is all to overlooked and obscure for his own good.

Let me tell you a story about a game that AlphaDreams, the creators of the wonderful Mario & luigi RPG series made...
It was the year 2001, and AlphaDreams had finished their first game, Koto Battle for the GameBoyColour.
Nintendo wanted to cooperate with them on creating a RPG for the GBC, titled: Gimmick Land.

The story was about a kingdom ruled by it's young ruthless king, Abiira, a Tomato like humanoid being. Law nr.1 was that people that did not like tomatoes, were to be cast out of the land, and live in an outlaw village, until the day they learned to like tomatoes. One such boy, DeMille, dispised tomatoes, and ofcourse, lived in the outskirt village. One day, Demille's childhood friend (girlfriend) Pasaran, wanted to show DeMille a present for him that she had found in some ancient ruins. Sneaking out of the village with a "Gimmick" (a form of weapon created by his friend), they got to the top of the ruins were the present was. A robot... but it was gone... at the same time, Pasaran was kidnapped by Abiira's henchmen, to be used as a energy source for his super weapon, The Super-Chara-Cooker, that would turn the entire kingdom into what he desired. Thus, Demille went out to stop him...

Unfortunetly, the game was to be released for the GBC, but soon enough, the GBA was released, and they had to remake it for GBA. Not a difficult task. But suddenly, Nintendo wanted to change the title into something THEY thought would fit the story:

TOMATO ADVENTURE

... crappy name huh? The game is a marvelous collection of imagination, humour, and good game mechanics, intrucing the Gimmick weapons, that in battle, works the same as any attack you'd see in Mario&Luigi or Paper Mario. In other words, minigames that can "when suceeded" deal extra damage. The game was fantastic by miles...

but...

the title... was... horrible... nobody would even dare to touch a game with a name like TomatoAdventure... and thus. It fell into obscurity...

DeMille, was actually considered to be in Super Smash Bros Brawl, but that was it...

So without more addo, My suggestion, is DeMille in MUGEN... He got tons of weapons that could make for an interesting character.
He looks like this:

But I made a remake that looks like this:

And last but not least. Here's a video of the gameplay from TA (all of DeMille's attacks) his super abilites (with partners)

Thats a very interesting suggestion, how about the main character from Sin & Punishment also?

How about both, Saki Amamiya (S&P1) and his son, Isa Amamiya (S&P2)?

Along with the above, here are my three, most-wanted choices:

* Starfy from The Legendary Starfy series.
* DeMille from Tomato Adventure. Keep his original look unchanged.
* Hien (and probably Mao Mao) from the Aero Fighters series, using moves based on their ships' weapons. Their super attacks would be jumping in their fighter jets and shooting their most powerful weapons, like Hien's Ninja Beam.

Some other characters I would like for them to have custom-made sprites are these (excluding licensed games), especially the ones from 3D or 2.5D games:

* Several other protagonists from Video System's games (e.g. Tao Taido, Karate Blazers, etc.)
* Several protagonists from Atari's games, not to be confused with Atari 2600 games (e.g. Paperboy, Gauntlet, etc.)
* Several protagonists from Ubisoft's games (e.g. Gabrielle, Buck Bumble, etc.)
* Several protagonists from Rareware's games (e.g. Jet Force Gemini, Blast Corps, etc.)
* Several protagonists from Psikyo's games (e.g. Gunbird/Mobile Light Force, Sol Divide - Sword of Darkness, etc.)
* Several protagonists from Nihon Bussan's/Nichibutsu's games (e.g. Mag Max, Ninja Emaki, etc.)
* Several protagonists from Kemco's games (e.g. Kid Klown/Crazy Chase series, Space Hunter, etc.)
* Several protagonists from Vic Tokai's games (e.g. Magical Kids Doropie, Time Dominator 1st, etc.)
* Several protagonists from Seta's games (e.g. 8 Eyes, GD Leen, etc.)
* Several protagonists from Toaplan's games (e.g. Knuckle Bash, Snow Bros., etc.)
* Several protagonists from Culture Brain's games (e.g. Hiryu no Ken, Super Chinese, etc.)
* Several protagonists from Vap's games (e.g. Super Monkey Daibouken, Kick Challenger: Air Foot, etc.)
* Several protagonists from Visco's games (e.g. Cowboy Kid, Battle Flip Shot/Bang Bead, etc.)
* Several protagonists from Hot-B's games (e.g. Palamedes, Block Breaker, etc.)
* Several protagonists from Enix's games (e.g. Mischief Makers, Illusion of Gaia, etc.)
* Several protagonists from Atlus's games (e.g. Heaven's Gate, Spud's Adventure, etc.)
* Several protagonists from Koei's games (e.g. Unchanted Waters, Samurai Warriors, etc.)

My Mugen Wish List would include protagonists, mascots and other iconic characters with everything they have brought straight from their source with little or no editing.

Hey. Welcome to mugen.

I know you've chosen to start off with MasterChief and Samus as your first characters, but MC isn't really a fighting game char, and Samus might be difficult to get good resolution. It's very ambitious.

In my opinion, there are better 3d chars to start your mugen experience with. Try converting an earlier 3d fighting char who has the required sprites. I recommend chars from any of these 3D series:

Tekken
Soul Blade/Calibur
Virtua Fighter
Rival Schools/Project Justice
Street Fighter EX/4
Dead or Alive
Battle Arena Toshinden
Bloody Roar
Ehrgeiz
Motral Kombat DA, D, A
Power Stone
Star Gladiator/Plasma Sword
X-Men Mutant Academy/Next Dimension

I assure you people have been waiting for chars from these series. One well-made char from any game mentioned here will get you just as much attention as MC or Samus. If you collaborate with a good coder, it will be to your credit.
My two cents.
