According to a post at the Madman's Cafe, Infoseek is shutting down its free website service at the end of the month, so there's only a couple of days to seach and save anything from there you might be interested in - invariably, this will include a bunch of Mugen sites...
Much like with Geocities for the west, it's a bit of an end of an age, in a way...

I'm not too sure if archive.org archives japanese websites as well - I hope so, but I'm trying to test with one, but it's currently way to slow to tell...

You might want to go through the Found Releases for interesting stuff hosted there before it's too late...

There is some infoseek stuff on the web archive.
But yeah, sometimes it's slow or hosted files may not be there even if the page loads.  I just downloaded something using it (Tokia's stuff from 2005).

Thanks for the heads up.  Time to go through those sites I had marked down to visit later I guess.   ;P

One site I can think of in particular on infoseek is HSR's.
So anyone needing his stuff (Setsuna, Hibiki, etc) should act soon.

The links for Gonzo's characters are still linked to the infoseek website though.
yeah, you are right, he mention that he will fix the link as he is busy with his personal life

anyway, tin alternate website I think: http://tinshiva.ure.jp/ inside have most of his older creation like svcchunli, gunter, god rugal, victor etc but doesn't have his other creation like mukai, shishioh-nbc, dudley etc

You forgot Umihei Unicorn.

Bad bad news some websites will probably never come back, such as MEKA's who has abandoned his site for 5~8 years now. He certainly doesn't care anymore so I don't see him coming back.

infoseek be cursed for not giving everyone the time to back up, it was so sudden I bet a lot of creators didn't even expect it. Hopefully for them they had a backup of their website so they don't have to restart from scratch.

OK you derailed thread first remember K?

web 2.0 implies it's everyone's job to archive what they want
we just provided a platform for that purpose

youtube would be nothing without users contributions
mugen archive is nothing without users contributions, for now we are nothing and we will start to exist only when users start uploading massively.

I just performed a search on the key word MEKA and it seems we don't have anything MEKA has done unfortunately. Some of his stuffs were pretty good so it's a shame. I happen to have the original untouched archives of MEKA's ANJI, OLOF and ONI, they were sleeping on my hdd for 5 years. I will upload Olof and Oni in the next couple of days, but I don't know about his 80% low res Anji, we already have two 100% hi-res Anji, I'm not sure anyone is interested in a 80% low res Anji.

isweb Light service, as of 10/31/2010, has ended.
Thank you for many years of use.

In other words, it's kinda like what happened to Geocities. They're still providing hosting, just no more FREE hosting.

The best host I recommend to our japanese fellows is free.fr

All hosting is free, no premium, you don't pay anything so no service interrupted.
Support for php 4 or php 5 with .htaccess
Optional (and free) myqsl or postgresql database, phpmyadmin and similar web softares to maintain your sql database.
You can do any modern website/forum, not just limited to piss-poor html site.
Very fast servers, unlimited bandwidth, 10 Go free space.
Free services: free and fast support by newsgoups for troubles, free email, free anti-spam solutions, phpmyvistites stats, manage mailing lists...
Has been running for 10 years free and won't stop anytime soon.

Why do they offer free and high quality hosting:
The more free.fr domain is visited the more free.fr domain value increases on the domain market.

Sorry for the revival, but this is important about this case:

Recently Infoseek has came back about the hosting for their old websites. Or more than that, it's going to get back some of their old webpages in the INFOSEEK ARCHIVE, giving the chance to authors' pages would be online again. Just changing the .co.jp for .sk extension. Just like:

http://dala.hp.infoseek.co.jp/ -> http://dala.hp.infoseek.sk/

As you see in the last link, explains something about this (translators needed, plz) and get the link to Infoseek's Archive twitter. But the only MUGEN author I found that restored his website is Bad Darkness, I tried with a lot of other MUGEN creators with pages in Infoseek, but BD is the only one avaliable again (but something similar than Web Archive, no downloads yet).

More info in the official pages (needed translators, too)
