well, just to announce our new WIP...

this char will be made from this team... Blueblood, Thedge, Vans and me (NiO)

Gameplay: like classic KOF but with XIII elements, and moves...

sprites are used with permission of Misamu...

WHATS DONE?

* All sprites have a color separation, making possible the combination of a lot of things, to be clear, you can palette this things... (made by blueblood)
-hair
-hands
-fingers (need to be done, but it will be)
-eyes and mouth
-chest
-lowerchest (belly)
-pants
-shirt
-lower shirt
-moon (with certain palettes it will appear or not appear)

well, because images are better than words... here's the color separation and the winscreen (with shared colors to have an extra)


I'm croping and adding the sprites in the .sff file, watcing the axis, since we already have a playable char, it's less painful (at least to me, that I'm not a coder)

I've cropped and added +70 sprites with accurate axis to the char, have been very busy but I will continue this week...

it has chesse ko, I believe all KOF basics and KOFXII moves, but since this is XIII styled we will add some other stuff later, based on the new Iori

Jesus Christ that looks badass.  I personally have become a big fan of new claw Iori over his classic flame version.  Good to hear that he is old school KOF with the new moveset, you could possibly put in original supers to go with Ya Otome if you wanted though.  And of course the neomax could work as an LDM and he could dream cancel into it from Ya Otome like the max cancelling in XIII.  Just a thought.

so far... yes...

since it's based on his XIII counterpart...

to have the classic moves we need to edit the missing moves (old ones)
and so far is not the case, since the color separation makes it more difficult

also, the only thing I notice the char is missing is a move of his standing animation when he moves a bit his arms and torso, I'm going to edit that when I finish the .sff file

and here I thought I was the only one who tried that.
I can guarantee there's a lot of people who do or try to do that...
I used to have a tutorial on how to rip kofz sprites... but never publish it for respect to Misamu and his team...

btw, I was thinking on make some "cameo" palettes (or don't know what word would be better)...

with the new combinations I was thinking on made something like Kain, Kyo or Terry...
so if you have some ideas, would be cool to post a gif of said char here to see if it could be a palette for the char

since IoriXIII has that palette, it's a high possibility to have that one, specially because we were going to make 3 palettes by team member (3 by vans, 3 by blue, 3 by thedge and 3 by me)

and knowing Blue and his "accuracy" feeling maybe she will make that one!  ;)

I was wonder when someone would try to make this into a character.  Mugen needed a "new" styled iori.  This WIP is going to be top notch especially with the people working behind it.

Awesome! I was getting tired of using the public Iori XII beta by MyMugen
(that's the author don't ask) :ninja:

I'm just wondering if you guys will make an alternate version in
which Iori has his flames back like in Iori's XIII ending. ???
(watch the ending in youtube and see what I'm talking about)

I hope to try out  your team's Iori once it's out! ;D

I will take colors from any other Iori to make his classic palette

(this was one I made just randomly)

about news... I finished the crop process today, the next step is to add the rest of sprites to the .sff file
since I'm adding them with the axis correctly, it will be ready to be coded by thedge and vans!  :sugoi:

My suggestion is to let him "not" have the flame moves, since there are Ash Crimson chars in MUGEN. :P

Buuut, the flame moves could be a "hold start" button extra...

That way, people can have both...

to add that mode, we should edit the missing moves from IoriXIII (flame moves and a few others when he sued flames) and so far is not in our plans...

will take more time, and I don't see the point, in that case you could have a classic Iori in your roster to fight with this counterpart :P

I probably should have asked first if the palette was final or not, but I tried to imitate one if Iori's alts using Terry's default pal out of curiosity/boredom.



It could be better I guess, but I tried to keep the colors as close to Terry's as possible.

Just wondering, is there no plan to add the ring on his right hand, the stripe to his shoe and separate the colors of the two belts (I saw a green palette in game where they were different colors)?

Your sprite in the first post with the color separations is a .jpeg so I couldn't use it.

I have finished the .sff file today, with accurated axis and prefectly cropped
so the next thing is to make a color separation on his fingers and fix a few sprites with the moon...

in other side, the ring and stripe on his shoes will be added later...
anyways... soon I'm going to send the stuff to Thedge and Vans... so the coding is coming

haven't made screenshots, but I was playing with palettes a few minutes ago...


if you have ideas for some cool palettes, this is the "template" for it

I'm not sure how, but the sprite you posted has it's palette order reversed.

I fixed it for you though.

nope, the sprites already exist, like you said, the throw ones could be used or adapted to match the move... that move is not done so far...

thedge wants to play and have more knowledge of the KOFXIII system to make him great (and with Vans help I don't doubt it)

and yeah a few sprites have been mixed (seems like PS fault) so I have to fix them, but they were for the moon

we noticed that we got some sprites missing, so I had to paletize (if that's even a word) the missing one, and also I'm working on the loop animation of KOFXIII

not good enough so far, but I want to finish it and hope it looks good when it's done

This character seems to have the best palettes of all time! Feels like Maximum Impact 2 in 2d. Might as well call em alternate costumes.  ;P

kinda hard to apreciate the move on a .gif

but it looks cool in mugen, using it as a starting stand animation...
something similar to Oswald walking (he first hide his arm and then the animation loops with the arm hidden, same goes to Iori and it looks good in game)


still a few things to repair on the animation, but nearly done

it's hard to make the same effect of fluid movemente with just a few pixels, but like I told you, it looks good in mugen, it does the move, and then the standing starts (without the move again, I don't know why the .gif repeat it)...
it looks like a fast move of Iori getting ready to fight

I already added the move to the stand and will send my edit to Vans to see if he aproves

Yeah I think pretty much why it looks weird is cause in XIII it has more frames of animation, so here it looks less fluid.  Ultimately I think it's alright though.

Try downgrading the original animation just to see if it works, if not, add a couple of frames.

I want to do that, but I need a software to separate frames (if someone cen help me there)

not to downgrade the original animation and use it, use it to see how it has to look the movemente, hands and etc... but yeah I wil try it later (I'm not on my pc)

well Blue send me the sprites of the standing animation of Iori XIII with a resize similar to old KOF games, it helps me to get this...



I think is better and so far more accurate than my first try, so I will continue spriting this one move  8)

not sure if I'm gonna change the face when it goes down or leave that one

yeah, I understand, I'm gonna edit all those sprites to look like the original torso, what I needed was the move, because was hard to copy using internet with the stand moving and trying to sprite at the same time xD

also I think I'm gonna add to more sprites to make it more fluid (at the begining and the end of the loop) so the arm would look better, a lot better, because it seems like unfinished at the end  :sugoi:
