I was browsing through SRK when I saw this:http://shoryuken.com/2011/06/29/trolling-the-stream-by-ultradavid/The original text --> http://t.co/eAgrD96
More worrying than that is the fact that this would also cover Mugen as well, being an electronic reproduction of copyrighted material.Less worrying is the fact that the Mugen community has already effectively been given carte blanche by Capcom and other companies. It isn't a stretch to imagine them doing the same thing for the free publicity that comes with Youtubers and tournament holders. Also, I'd imagine this would only apply to streamers based in America.I've got a more in-depth write-up here.
Wait....... So they're going to put us in jail just for streaming video games? That's not right.... That's just awful in so many ways. We have the freedom to show whatever we want to. Video games are meant to be played & shared. First they tell us off for uploading copyright movies & TV, now they're doing this for video games as well? What a load of bull.
So let me understand what it means by "Jailed for Streaming Videogames"1. A person plays a videogame... like MvC3 or something....2. They record themselves playing it using a camera or a capture device.3. They upload it to Youtube or somewhere else on the internet.4. They get jailed. Because they did the above three things. Is this correct?
More like:1. A person plays a videogame... like MvC3 or something....2. They record themselves playing it using a camera or a capture device without the IP holder's permission.3. They upload it to Youtube or somewhere else on the internet more than 10 times, and made a profit from it.4. They get jailed. Because they did the above three things.Personally I see that sort of thing as unlikely because:Saltmine said:Tournaments and streams are effectively free advertising, free beta testing, free publicity; without all these audio-visual bells and whistles we’ve taken for granted it’d be hard to maintain the fighting games community as it is, and no community means no market for their product. Indeed, companies employ staff full-time to manage their shares of the community; the likes of Seth Killian or FilthieRich would be unlikely to shrug off the people that put them where they are today. Publishers enjoy a somewhat symbiotic relationship with their communities; if one half of the equation is under threat of getting locked up, it’s hard to imagine the other half staying idle while it happens.Indeed, that was Chrstian Svensson's reaction. We're talking about a company that is starting to facilitate YouTube uploads in their own software; I'm pretty sure they won't mind a great deal.
I don't se why stupid gamers should have more rgihts than tvstations, so yeah, good work on jailing that criminal.
I hardly say much on this site. But I'll speak here the ONLY thing this law affects are people who stream UFC, WWE and Sporting events. It's not going to damn somebody to Prison for Video games or using a song as background music in a you tube video. I don't get my news on these matters from a bunch of idiots. I only listen to the EFF and the EFF doesn't paint this as a bleek issue just a concerning one.https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2011/06/felony-penalties-proposed-illegal-streaming-senateHere read the bill yourself. It's nothing to worry about. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=s112-978Hoshi said, June 30, 2011, 08:17:41 pminb4everyonemovestoJapanJapanese Copyright law makes US Copyright law seem fair
The biggest problem I have seen with japanese law is that they are very open to interpretation and very meta, so a law that's open to interpretation references another thing that is also open to interpretation, so if the jury wishes you are fucked (go to jail, lose your job, etc.) because you helped a child find his parents, while a teacher only gets a one week suspension for raping that same kid.

It's nothing to worry about. http://www.govtrack.us/congress/billtext.xpd?bill=s112-978so really its just going to effect people who are streaming for the purpose of profit (thats what im getting after reading the bill)This isnt as bad as some people have exaggerated it
If streaming any videogames gets you in Jail then I guess streaming mugen makes it worst... ok from now on I won't share streaming live videos of mugen on my Jtv channel.... I don't want people to kick open the door of my apartment while I sleep....
If this law makes people post less mugen videos in youtube I am applying for my usa citizenship asap so I can vote in favour of it.
Too bad it probably won't affect international video creators...Oh wait, don't tell me it'll affect those outside of the US as well...
vgmaster2.0 said, July 05, 2011, 04:07:12 amOh wait, don't tell me it'll affect those outside of the US as well...Unless Youtube have servers outside the US (which, if they don't, they should probably start seriously thinking about) I would imagine they would delete videos, but as far as people getting extradited to face charges I don't think so. I know for a fact that Australia are pretty stringent about their fair use laws (including things like using material for parody, instruction, etc.), and while we have seen people extradited for large-scale cracking software, no one will get shipped off to Guantanamo over something like this.
So the government's solutions to solving the debt is by locking up anyone and fining anyone for recording or streaming entertainment?
Just like some overreact to new American laws?Satou Sei~ said, July 05, 2011, 11:33:16 pmstreaming ppv events might get jailed even if outside the usa.Extradition over a stream? No. No government would stand for it.
Satou Sei~ said, July 06, 2011, 12:31:38 amPeople so overreact to debt that I find them retarded. That's understandable I must've heard debt and apocalypse in the same sentence at least 10 times today.

I'm sure some people have probably answered this somewhere and I didn't see it, but how would this affect some of the critics/reviewers like AVGN, Nostalgia Critic, or even me?
