It's been a Wimbledon-level week of neck snapping for film industry observers curious about Warner Bros.' DC Comics franchise. One day it seemed like the studio would be following Marvel's strategy of a shared cinematic superhero universe, the next day it seemed like the opposite. And what the hell is going on with Christopher Nolan and the Batman franchise?

With the game paused for now, it appears that Warner Bros. plans to develop a Justice League project whose characters and stars will not be culled from other DC-based films like Green Lantern or Zack Snyder's new Superman movie; The Dark Knight Rises will be the last Batman film of the current cycle, but the Batman franchise will be reinvented once again by... Christopher Nolan; and the Wonder Woman television series does not necessarily preclude development of an unrelated Wonder Woman film.

http://www.comicsalliance.com/2011/03/31/christopher-nolan-new-batman-dc-universe-movies-unconnected/

To make a long story short, WB is planning a Justice League movie with its own continuity and without any of the actors who are already portraying the same characters in other media, and the Batman franchise is set to be rebooted after The Dark Knight Rises, but with Christopher Nolan still at the helm.

This all seems like a big clusterfuck to me, honestly.  I get that they want to compete with the Avengers movie, but they really seem to have no idea what the hell they're doing.

I dont think this would be that confusing to audiences. People know that theres a whole bunch different versions of Batman/Superman etc.

I mean, you got a Young Justice version of Batman on Cartoon Network, and also the campy Batman the Brave and the Bold version.

And back in the 90s, you had three different actors playing Batman in three different films set in the same universe.

Oh yeah this is a great idea. And by great I mean horrible. People thought that Batman Begins was a prequel to Batman '89. Why would this be different? It's just gonna confuse everyone.

the Batman franchise is set to be rebooted after The Dark Knight Rises, but with Christopher Nolan still at the helm.
Well, he'll be producing it, but that's about it. I'm sure it will work out well, just like Tim Burton was producer on Batman Forever and that was a worthy successor to Batman Returns...

oh god this is going to be terrible

And back in the 90s, you had three different actors playing Batman in three different films set in the same universe.
There's nothing really linking them directly, so I can very easily pretend they don't.

I DON'T WANT SCHUMACHER'S SHITTY MOVIES RUINING BATMAN RETURNS

Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were very, very good. With another reboot, I wonder what direction they'll try and take Batman...

As for a Justice League movie, it sounds interesting to say the least.

that's why it's good. why do you like another arnold shwasdasdczc for batman villain again?
joker isn't a scientist who can make super power ray guns he's a psycho who kills people the dark knight was imo influenced by Jim Starlin who written the batman comics where the 2nd robin died. there

As I know, Nolan wanted just a trilogy for their Batman movies, so The Dark Knight Rises closes the circle. only I can quote this, again:
This all seems like a big clusterfuck to me, honestly.
Continuity for the ultimate victory. Fuck that shit.

If they are rebooting it, they might as bring Adam West back as Batman.  :sugoi:
To quote Lt. Frank Drebin: "Cheer up, Ed. This is not goodbye. It's just I won't ever see you again."

This is how DC operates they always have a problem with deciding what they want to do. I really don't want to see a reboot of the batman movies. However thought these movies are good I think DC wants to make a live action batman movie closer to the batman animated seres of the 90s.

It is very hard to do batman right and they were closer this time around but there are some aspects of the 90s batman movies that should have been in the current batman movies. I like the dark-night and I think the Joker was played right eve if it was more real. Harvey Dent was okay but but two-face was off. Some batman characters like the ventriloquist won't work well in that universe and that might be why they decided to do a reboot.

Not all of the batman characters can be used in this style of movie.

There are clearly two reasons for the Justice League to be separate.

1: they don't have to stick strictly to the origins in the other movies which might allow them to make a movie closer to the comics.

2: Both DC and Marvel wanted to give all their characters their own movies before making a JL or Avengers movie. Marvel threw out movie after movie and basically met their goal.

DC argued, had debacles, sucked up directors from Marvel and did nothing with them, made unrelated movies and went perfectionist (good thing) most of that is just with the wonder woman movie. So they failed to make movies for their other characters. If they want to get a movie out around the same time as the Avengers movie it make sense to just isolate the JL from the rest off the movies.

A reboot of Superman is needed more than Batman. A live action "Death of Superman" movie would be the shit.

I don't think ANY version of the Joker has made "super power ray guns". But there are versions of him that are actually interesting and have more interesting ways of killing people than a knife. The pencil was OK, but it wasn't enough. I want some goddamn Joker venom. >:(

the dark knight was imo influenced by Jim Starlin who written the batman comics where the 2nd robin died. there
A lot of things have been listed as influences on Nolan's movies, but I don't think Starlin's run has ever been mentioned. It's too bad though, because the Joker becoming Iran's UN ambassador would've made the movie much better.

A reboot of Superman is needed more than Batman.
Nice job reading the article there. There IS a Superman reboot in the works.

reread my post again, I clearly meant a Superman reboot should be priority number one over Batman.

Then you should read this:

This crossover is very sick and it's better than a Venom Joker ;)

As I read, mainly has been inspired by sagas as Year One (by Frank Miller) and The Long Halloween (by Jeph Loeb)
