yes, i know, you've asked for it for... at least a long time

and that's it: http://fanaticmugen.free.fr/tmp_dl/select.def

PLEASE READ MY COMMENTS HERE AFTER

- as you've read, the museum should now be lin/win compatible: all the dos archives are included in the chars' folders
- i mean should because i "simply" patched them all: PLEASE REPORT ME ALL BUGS AND TROUBLES WITH THE CHARS UNDER LIN/WIN ---> i'll do my best for correcting that or having it corrected
- THIS IS A BETA VERSION OF THE LIN/WIN PERFECT SELECT: I KNOW IT'S NOT TOTALY UP TO DATE BUT I'LL IMPROVE THAT LATER ---> it's far better than the old perfect select

requests will be allowed again from the 1st october 2008.

all the usual rules are still on.

It's supposed to be a list of every MUGEN character made ever, I believe. Useful for finding a specific character and making sure that it's the version you want.

If you would of actually read that large text file, you would know.  :P

@electrocaid : Wow, quite comprehensive - nice work.

Kinda confused as to how you organize characters. For example, what made you decide to place Gal129's Anakaris under CFJ rather than Anakaris edits under Darkstalkers?

show..what else is a museum for?

its a museum not a warehouse man  :P

i'm putting some order in my files as well...

it could be good on what criteria he used...i'm ordering my files according to creator, not game...

well...

i'm obliged to make choices...

as the cfj conversions are rare, i've decided to put it here for activating one more cfj bg...

for sure, if a cfj conversion is made, i'll put it under the darkstalkers series edits section  ;D

more generaly, it's hard to classify the mugen conversions as a large part of them aren't pure conversions of the games: i usually put them in the edits section of the game...

anyway, all suggestions are welcome

nb: the museum currently contains more than 10000 chars...

yes, the edits are quite hard to classify, more when the char is a conjunction of 2 different games +new things :P

BTW, I e-mailed you  :P

I wasn't aware how many chars are actually unsigned, from the old times (99-00), that the char contains everything, except who made it, and there was some cases of the acejoker ones, that was an email and nothing more, no nick, no name, nothing ???

in others, the version was the date of release :P

Not sure what you're saying, but for CFJ anything, I'd suggest you just point them to the section of their original game source. Like for Alex, point to SF3; for Jedah, point to DS; for Leo, point to Warzard.

For characters like Ryu, that does pose a bit of a problem, though... I'd say point to CvS series since his CFJ counterpart is basically an extremely watered-down version of that, IIRC.

Move any conversions listed under CFJ to their respective sections.

Just a suggestion, though. Might keep everything a bit more organized.

since the character code (ie:the moves/specials) are custom made and many chars have combined games' moves, i think is better to just categorize under the main source of the sprites, since that the only thing that has a firmer known source, yes many has edited sprites, but its always edited to a certain game style anyways (like extra frames in sander71113 kyo)

for answerin' by order:

@ Kagami: i've replied by mail too  :)

@ Creamy_Goodness: it's not only a "big list": the purpose of the perfect select is to show all the mugen creations that have been created from the beginning. i know it's a dream but it's the purpose... if something isn't there:
- feel free to send it to me for the next edition
- it's maybe because it has been released after the latest perfect select  ;D

@ [Kira]: yes, that's what i usually do but, sometimes, when there's no one conversion AND that i want to activate the original bg of the char, i put it in another game but only if the sprites of the char are the same (the fx aren't concerned)... if there's a conversion or no one bg to activate, i usually put the char at the best place for it ;)  Short, it's really rare for me not to place a char in its best place (except my lack of knowledge of course)

oh, thanks for the reply, got some doubts resolved :sugoi:

now, since you have more experience managing that kind of huge data, what kind of arrangements have you find to be more difficult to perform? (creator, year, game, and so on?)

hum

i'm tryin' to be as clear as possible...

the classical scheme (that i won't modify even under torture) is:

------------------------------------------------------
[NAME OF THE SERIES] (platforms of the various games)
------------------------------------------------------

==========================================
([SubSection X]) [name of the episode] (platforms) ===
==========================================

[def name of the char], stage/[def name of the bg], music=sound/[name of the snd file]   ;[display name] by [author's name, taken from the def of the char or the readme if it's not possible]

this is just enough to find what you're looking for:
- more informations would be useless
- less informations would be dangerous

Maybe you could put it on a Spreadsheet. It might be easier to organize and update.

ohhh, i see, that's why...

i used to do that, but then i find myself having too much chunks of data around, so i started using this

http://www.gcstar.org/

now, it's still a hard work to organize, but in then end, it's easy for me to add things later...

but yes, this is for storage purpose actually...

yes, for me, the challenge is different: to classify all the mugen datas in a fully working select.def...

till now, it works  ;D

well, it can work well, to add some new file, you only need to search a specified entry and just insert the data isn't it?

the legend addition was a good idea to navigate faster 8)
