http://www.kotaku.com.au/games/2009/03/midway_offloading_mortal_kombat_and_screwing_former_employees-2.htmlQuoteCourt documents surrounding the company's fight for survival have shown that Midway executives have set aside $3,755,000 in bonuses, which is to be divided amongst the company's upper management tier if they're able to meet certain goals. One of those goals was in offloading Wheelman, which Ubisoft just picked up. So that's $497,500 in the pocket. Another objective is being able to secure the "execution of an asset purchase agreement for the sale of Midway's Mortal Kombat franchise assets".Midway are finally handing over the reins to the Mortal Kombat franchise. Chances are it will be bought by a team that will breathe new life into it. New Street Fighter, new King of Fighters, and now a new team behind Mortal Kombat... will this be the new age of the versus fighter?
Iced the 8Ball said, March 02, 2009, 05:03:52 pmI finally have a target for the ten bucks imma gonna earn from shaun.Im gonna buy mortal kombat.Good Idea xDIt better fall in the right hands as PoTS saidI dont want Mortal Kombat going worse than it already is xD

I know that Midway's hurting for cash right now, but I have to question the wisdom in selling off MK. I mean, the don't have anything else to their name. Giving up Mortal Kombat seems tantamount to closing down altogether.
FTR there was another article at some MK site explaining that they don't have to sell MK, so don't take this for granted yet.
Titiln said, March 02, 2009, 05:56:03 pmgonna say ea buys mortal kombatThat would make the series worse. Unless they let the team who did Def Jam: FFNY do it.
This is crazy news.I just hope that months from now we hear news of a new MK game by a company such as Capcom being created. (Not going to happen, but just saying..we can all dream.)
As PotS Said, Mk Should Fall In to The Right Hands And I Bet Its Nintendo, And Oh Nintendo, No Brutal Mario Kameos (lol) Exept If It's A Brutality When He Gets A BIG MUSHROOM And Squashes Them Like Heck
I would rather have Capcom get MK than Nintendo.Hell, I'd rather have Microsoft or Sony get Mortal Kombat than Nintendo. I don't trust Nintendo with MK.
Bees. My god. said, March 20, 2009, 07:20:19 pmI would rather have Capcom get MK than Nintendo.Hell, I'd rather have Microsoft or Sony get Mortal Kombat than Nintendo. I don't trust Nintendo with MK.Either do I. Mario & MK should NEVER join forces. It's like mixing orange juice with your corn flakes (yeah, I spilt my drink in my cerials once).
I wish I had enough money to buy it. lol It would turn in to the nightmarish blood fest I always dreamed it could be.
Titiln said, March 02, 2009, 08:20:13 pmea would have to try really hard to make mortal kombat any worse than it isEA makes some pretty shitty games. So don't underestimate an idiot. Just when you think you got them figured they go a peg lower than they already have.
mk is pretty bad now but without the original team i think its going to get really bad and disapear like sonic for exemple
and then they will all be hand drawn that might be cool if they dont change then all that much and go back to old school satisfying fatalities
i refuse to buy any MK if Ed Boon's not gona be involved. In fact, Ed should be threatening Midway with lawsuits because he, along with John Tobias, created the MK franchise.
you forget that Tobias left the frachise a long time ago, and if Midway's closes, boon might get more money than he got from the latest MK game. Some of the bills Midway has to pay are his bonusses.
All went to hell eh. I notice that all their previous games are rated M MkvDC Rated T. Fuck is up with that
nightmarePRT said, March 28, 2009, 10:44:45 pmif ed boon doenst make the next mk who is going to do scorpions voice ???scorpion has a voice ?ah yeah, come over here.
I'm probably one of the few MK fans who didn't go apeshit at MK vs DCU getting a T rating. Granted, I'm probably one of the few who liked MK as a game. The gore is just extra.
i apreceate it has a game my self but it started violent and although the problems they had the game lasted for almost two decades now so it should still be violent

The gore is just extra.I agree! The only problem is that the fighting mechanics of all the MK games including MK Vs. DCU are pretty..well, odd. If a company such as SNK or Capcom bought the franchise though, as everyone is saying, it would be a huge step forward due to the fact that we might actually get a new MK game with more modernized and technical gameplay.
the problem is that if capcom or snk buy mk they will change the game complety , i meen change is good but mk was fine as it was before goint to 3d so i think the series should take a few steps back

nightmarePRT said, May 10, 2009, 09:40:53 pmthats somewhat true although i think that people would still find it fun as we did 16 years ago Yes..people who haven't played fighting games for a decade and a half. XD
Just because a lot of people here don't like MK here doesn't mean the game sucks by default, not with the fact that MK still has a large enough fanbase. And I can play the older MK game with no problem.
just my opinion being 3d graphics was not its failure but its sudden change on gameplay(combo system) they should stay true to it but just fix some few gameplay system with command layouts like run and block just make those direction inputs. agreed with mgbenz
IMO Mk started going down hill with MK3. To this day I hate the combo system and run button. Makes it to easy for you to combo spam people. A ninja player could disable you (freeze/spear) you hit you with a combo, run at you and disable/combo spam you to death. MK:D and DA where all right. I didn't like MK vs. DC simply because I feel like them adding DC was a gimmick and not a good one imo. It seemed like they where running out of idea and a lot of the DC characters movers where rehashes of MK characters moves. Same with there "fatalities."I'd like to see a company like Capcom or SNK get there hands on MK. Reboot the series by going back to 2d digitized graphics, use more modern mechanics and make it more over the top like the 2d MK's where.
The problem is, the main reason why MK was popular in the first place was because it shocked us with all of the Fatalities and excessive gore. Thats what drew us in, but now that its 2009 and almost every freakin game is 10 times bloodier then the original Mortal Kombat, it has lost its appeal. The games may be fun to play, but they dont have mechanics that modern hardcore fighting game fans would ever take seriously. Honestly, I think this applies to both the excessively competitive EVO crowd, as well as the more laid-back Mugen-esc fighting gamers. If MK is to be reborn, it seriously needs new people to write the storylines, or at least provide some damn decent voice acting, a new artist, (Please not Falcoon..) an HD Sprite style, (Or HD digitized graphics?) and balanced fighting mechanics that don't rely on gimmicks and ZOMG HOW BLOODY I CAN GET DEH OTHER GUY!Its not the ninties anymore, we don't care about how much blood shoots out of the opponent. Either someone buy MK and turn it into a franchise we can take seriously, or just let it die. Jesus. Did I just type all that? Anywho you all get my point.
your right. they gotta do more than just gore now, every game is gory!something they shoulda done is brought there game back to 2d fighting with great lightning speed graphics and the awesome complicated combos they had. ed boon soo soo stupid! for there last game instead of making a VS DC game he should made a last MK game that brought it to the roots. youd be surprised but there are so many people i know that still play MK 2 and MK 3. not a lotta people like playing the 3d ones.
I'd play DA, as that's the newest MK game I got to play and I liked it. But I'm not one for MK4/Gold. I never gotten into 4. I'm only throwing Gold in because it's an update, although I never actually played MKG.I wonder how Mortal Kombat Duo would have turned out.
I'll admit, I still find Trilogy to be a very fun game, but my whole opinion said above is kinda regarding how it needs to be updated to today's standards mainly is in terms of what the majority of the fighting game crowd wants.I mean for example, I'm a huge fan of the Mega Man series, but I was annoyed that the 9th game was 8-bit and in classic style. Oldschool is great, but I find that if you keep what makes something fun while at the same time updating it to fit today's players, it can truly be something worth while. As for the PS2 Mortal Kombat games, as well as MK VS DCU, those were alright I suppose..nothing special. I feel like the mechanics actually got worse, and I miss being able to run!
i think they shoulda done a game kinda like MK armageddon with every char and everything. but graphics being back to 2d but hi res like guilty gear, and having run, hard combos, fatalties, 3d backgrounds, and just listened to the fans. they fucked up by making like 4 MK games in one generation(ps2,xbox) people got bored.
Well said!I have to admit though, the PS2 MK games had some epic as hell cinematics! The intro to MK:A was the most awesome thing I've ever seen.
Blue Comet said, May 18, 2009, 10:22:02 pmhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjdmOeLJP1Ii rememeber this bull shit lol. damn thats some amature 3d
3D was pretty new at that age. And the characters does not look 3D animated, they look drawn, compared to the backgrounds.
Anjel said, May 18, 2009, 11:22:51 pm3D was pretty new at that age. UHF had better 3D than MK:The Journey Begins.
Blue Comet said, May 10, 2009, 11:10:19 pmJust because a lot of people here don't like MK here doesn't mean the game sucks by default, not with the fact that MK still has a large enough fanbase.also, just because the game ahs a large fanbase does not mean the game does not suck.
I didn't want to start a new thread so one of these "lol bankrupt" threads should do, but Warner is already thinking about the next MK game:http://www.shacknews.com/laryn.x?story=59915
QuoteThe Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe team, recently rebranded WB Games Chicago, and series co-creator Ed Boon are currently working on a new entry tentatively dubbed Mortal Kombat 9.Just sounds like another cash grab game as long as Ed Boon is involved. How can that nitwit actually balance it to make their next game a "gold standard"?
I actually found the MK games pretty decent. especially armageddon.I love the gore and the combos. Ofcourse, it's not at the same level as SF and KOF but, it's good fun.Sad to see MK being sold, what are warner bros they going to do with it?Even if they make an awesome MK game it's still going to get low sells.Only MK fans are going to buy, they just better hope gamespot or IGN give them a good review.Good review = sells!
