The fact that Don Drago is a brazilian fellow making KOF chars has stigmatized him for ages, even when other "non brazilian" great KOF creators have borrowed ideas from him, and/or have talked to him and recognized many of his ideas and notions of gameplay.

I personally have never downloaded a single of his characters, and when he releases/updates things, there's barely any buzz around here, so there's that.

you'll have to excuse me here i know nothing about this -rimshot-

- descolors/0d/(^0^) mainly for his later works, specifically his original characters 'genteki dan' and 'ganjou dan' are really cool 8-bit-esque characters with changable fighting styles (even between rounds) and i really do dig the text boxes that float above them instead of spoken dialogue. it's really nifty and i think everyone should give them a try because practically NOBODY noticed them when they got released (thankfully umezono reminded me they existed recently...)
- seki-rou made some very very good conversions of kaiser knuckle characters
- NGI converts from incredibly obscure sources (sometimes with mixed success just because some of the sources are just so bad, but the majority are really interesting and fun) but they are most definitely something to look into if you want something different. also joker_sf is delightfully insane
- mass. i don't really need to say much here. he's pretty much the king of unheard-of conversions and is incredibly good at coding
- envymask666 converted some really interesting characters, such as (even to this day) the only ninja baseball batman and knuckle heads characters
- in a sense, i sorta think ahuron's more 'out-there' stuff is less appreciated in their own right
- nhk's selection is very diverse, but the main draws here are his ikkyu, scorpion and saber
- kingpepe is showing a LOT of promise with his full-game project and i look forward to seeing what he does with it
- NS has a handful of interesting stuff too. possibly the only person that has done anything with queen of duelist

i'm probably forgetting a ton right now, but they are indeed the breath of fresh air to go to when you just need something different, but plays really well at the same time

gm i guess isn't but a handful of his characters kind of go under the radar (specifically brocken). he's excellent at making stuff nonetheless

This thread just makes me shake my head. The vast majority of authors brought up are not underrated at all. They either already had their time, are actually really bad at what they do, happen to actually be decently recognized or

It's like I'm in a Shadow of the Colossus message board all over again.

Want underrated? Try Noe. His Charlotte is possibly the best conversion of a Samurai Shodown character in MUGEN but I don't see him getting much renown for that or people having that Charlotte in their MUGEN folder instead of that crappy Masquer one with infinites done just by mashing your face against the keyboard.

DEMAN: For making the best Street Fighter EX characters, and his rips from that game were amazing. (Though his Skullomania and Shadow Geist were overdue for an update, but at least they play well)

I'm not mainstream (unless Scott, Rose and Frank would change that )

Pretty much every single one of the people you listed are well known in some way. Underrated are those that go almost completely un-noticed yet actually make good stuff.

I don't see names some of these underrated creators in these 4 pages:
-Lord Sinistro (the original, not the Guild user): the father of classic/obscure games characters for MUGEN, and one of my inspirations. In the past he was famous, now looks like no one even remember him

-Arpa: His C.Evil Ryu is more than just a joke to IMT template, it's a piece of art compared to The_None chars, IMO. And no one else seems notice this...
