Mugen has come along way from what it used to be.
From Politics to the creations themselves, everything has seemingly evolved.  Mugen 1.1 is on the horizon but as usual, Elecbyte has apparently vanished, yet again.  We've come a long way without their presence for the most part but I often wonder where Mugen will be in the future.

Where do you think the community will be in 10yrs?  Will time repeat itself (A change/shift of politics/creations/ideas)?
Will an alternative to Mugen, such as ShugenDo, arise and take it's place?
Thoughts?

PotS-styled characters will have lost their position as the most popular and mis-quoted creations to Z2 characters, the poor reception brought from Youtube will finally be dying off, and the Card Saga Wars beta will be coming soon.

I concur.

I'd like to add in that character types won't (and shouldnt!!) be restricted to the style of a particular, singular author. Meaning: I hope we see easier to use templates, like what Rajaa created with Necro, giving would be creators more to work with, and allowing seasoned veterans to easily add new coding material to that said template. This would result in starting from scratch much less often and make for complete and unified rosters/character types.

This is more of a wishilst, but I think we're starting to head in that direction.
All of your Mugen Portrait needs may be found HERE.

I'd like to report two robots on the MFG forums: One is EXShadow. The other is Saikoro.
There should be a Saikoro plugin for Photoshop.

The way i see it, a lot of spriters have been appearing very recently (which is obviously a good thing, lol). If this keeps up, "fullgames" would be more common. Not to mention that some contributors will leave the community. And pretty much a vast amount of characters will have color separation.

!? will have successfully converted all of the top fighter characters, mass will somehow stumble upon a way to directly rip sounds from survival arts, there will be a completely accurate way of the warrior character made, somebody will actually make a good lin from kof, and jaoh still won't be finished

sooner or later, everybody puts up with xiangfei
project thread / obscure mugen wiki / tweeter for mugen stuff

Hopefully I will be long done with it. :P
I've been in this for over 13 years, but I have no idea where the community is headed. I haven't downloaded a single publicly character since 2003. Save for a few betas I was sent by one or two friends to test and debug, I pretty much only dealt with my own stuff since.

I actually hope Mugen finally kicks it after it's slow death and it is replaced by a much better engine that allow people to actually program stuff instead of pretending to be scripting with that stupid and useless CNS thing.

Most creators who work with assets from mainstream games and anime will be forced completely underground by cease and desist requests after one lawsuit occurs. Mugen will all but die out because Kung Fu Man is boring after 10 minutes.

Mugen-Infantry.ru will be the most popular Mugen-warez forum in the illegal character trade. Obama will have failed us all.

As for me, I'll still be the greatest person I've ever known, hopefully a homeowner and 7 figures richer.

I don't think a lot of us will still be here in 10 years. I doubt I will. I don't trust myself when I'm gonna be over 30.

I'm also under the impression that people keep neglecting data from the game, do you guys know how PotS made his original characters? He actually studied every single game he referenced, down to the core. Doing this properly requires understanding how the original system was made, not just winging it.

IMO, the Z2 style will gain popularity, most people will now use 1.0 (or 1.1 if it's released), & some people will retire (I might be around tho).

I think in 10 years more, Elecbyte will return with MUGEN 2.0 with zoom and online play incorporated. Until that, all of us will use a hacked version of MUGEN 1.1 with those features parcially made and with the option of 5vs5 simul play/watch

As for me... I don't know, maybe I would release a couple of fullgames and Anti-Gouki Project was not just finished, but prized as MUGEN Fullgame of the Year in some Baltic MUGEN magazine

Not with the Balthazar clones appeared recently (like StormEX, Fabry Taz and Hien) who will probably do your job when you're retired :llama:

I'm extremely skeptical about Card Sagas Wars finishing actually. In intervals this is the big events I would forsee.

Next 2/3 years: Two more Z2 characters release and then Dr. CyBaster gives up MUGEN coding to do rich guy stuff. Balthazar becomes full-on artist for a big name videogaming company.

Next 5/6 years: SeanAltly, Rajaa and Diepod dominate the MUGEN scene after CyBalthazar's retirement, but each eventually retire to do something greater.

From then on: Duck becomes the chosen one. The cycle continues. :cool2:

Mugen 1.0 :

vs Mugen 1.1 :

Look at how there's no colorloss on the top right in Mugen 1.1.
32 bits images bitches, with alpha channel for transparency.
GFX card accelaration, so any number of layers and graphics doesn't slow down Mugen. Stages that run at 10fps on my computer in 1.0 run at a smooth 60fps in 1.1.
Animations have much more options now, making it easier to create effects that would use many helpers and tricks in 1.0.
And stage zooming, but that's just fancy and not so important.

in ten years..there are hopefully a handful more advanced engines. As good as Mugen is today, it could have been obsolete if there would have been a technically more advanced engine over 10 years ago already.

Mugen is like a psx development kit while the ps3 is out since a couple of years.

Damn tease.  I keep waiting for this to be released, but alas there seems to be no date in sight.
This is how you recognize a character is polished or not : when small details are taken care of to provide the best experience possible.

It's a crime, now. This is a major step on the Mugen history, and we are wasting a precious time, now..
But this is only my feeling..

Nice picture, indeed, Cybaster.

In ten years?
If RicePigeon does not quit Moojin by that time, then I hope that I and Rice could become "The RP Connection", with me making characters in RP's old stlye and RP in whatever style he wants to...
...also, every character from BlazBlue (except Chrono Phantasma), Yatagarasu and KOFXIII and at least a few Chaos Code and more Daemon Bride characters will be released.
And yet, no sign of MUGEN 1.1 or Jmorphman's mystery character. :smug:

In 10 years, we would have all abandoned Mugen because we're all too busy having a life.

LOL I have a life now and I still have trouble finding time for making my portraits!! ;D

All of your Mugen Portrait needs may be found HERE.

I'd like to report two robots on the MFG forums: One is EXShadow. The other is Saikoro.
There should be a Saikoro plugin for Photoshop.

But seriously, who cares about MUGEN 1.1?

MUGEN 1.0 is a super stable engine and it serves our needs well.
Mugen 1.0 :

vs Mugen 1.1 :

Damn, Guess Pictures are indeed worth a thousand words!

Guess if MUGEN 1.1 is getting a very stable release, I'm hopping on the bandwagon!

In 10 years I feel that there will be a revolution in mugen because 1.1 would have been released. Alot of talented spriters will make more sprites from popular 3D based games like Tekken, which will lead to a new section in the database. Some very anticipated full games will be released. Some of the beginners will become god-like coders. And this is just me hoping, but maybe I'll have released like 5 characters, because it's gonna take me years to finish sprites.

That's a bit too optimistic, don't you think? I think that it may die out and be replaced with a new engine. Or maybe we get slight updates from Electebyte, and nothing will really change.

I don't think that mugen will die out, honestly. Mugen is a fighting game engine, and it's free to learn and play. There's always gonna be fighting games fans that want to try something different or new or create something different or new.

I will release my 100th character by then. Mugen 1.1 will still not be officially out and people will be using 1.1 alpha 4.
Some people will be still using 1.0 or Winmugen. Probably the last person using Dosmugen will update around that time.
Elecbyte will reappear again after about 15 years, but they won't update Mugen anymore and will just release the source code for historical reasons. It won't matter because there will be a more advanced engine out there which will be able to play Mugen characters as well as other content made in a more advanced way. Despite that, several people will start updating Mugen 1.1, but there will be too many different branches of the software not compatible with each other, and the replacement engine will be superior so almost no one will use these.
Net speed will be much better on the majority of the world, so playing online will be a reasonable option, and will be implemented in the engine mentioned above.

You limit yourself so badly when you try to avoid variables. When you get over your fear of the "complexity" of variables, you will find yourself in a better place: A beautiful world where coding is actually fun.

In ten years apart from the creators nothing is going to change unless elecbyte creates a new engine which supports 3D models.

They are not "3D", they are just 3D rips from the source game, in other words, pre renderized 3D models in 2D sprites, is just a 'eye trick'.

Those are 'sprites' taken out of 3D models. Rendering a 3D model is completely different.

Exactly, many old games use this tecnic like Resident Evil 1,2,3(Pre renderized cenarios) and fighting games like Killer Instinct 1,2 and Clay Fighters.

10 years.... man.

By that point I would have finally made and released a original independent game, maybe have a small company in the works were my old MUGEN friends can work. lol

MUGEN will still be around but a new engine will have replaced it for the most part. The new engine more then likely will be created by people who started off playing with MUGEN.
