Anyone remember Battle Arena Toshinden? The last game was about a decade ago. It seems they're reviving the series on the Wii.http://the-magicbox.com/gaming.htm
WOW! now I'm saying that there is a revival of the fighting game genre.what is next? Power Instinct? Eternal Champions? Sonic the fighters?
Now I can expect a new fighting game by konami sometime next year.. please let it be gantz or tenjou tenge.
Titiln & the Great Titiln said, October 15, 2008, 10:11:59 pmearthworm jim better be in itPlay Rungo That would be nice.I didn't think a revival would be possible. I just hope it brings a good deal of new stuff to the table, and retcons the story so BAT3 and 4 didn't happen. BAT3 was a retool that I wasn't fond of (as well as having some HORRIBLE life bars), and considering BAT4 had a near totally new cast and didn't look interesting to me, I didn't bother playing it.BAT2 still has one of my favorite video game openings ever, though.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3aBmNEwGSs
I uhh...what.Edit:http://gonintendo.com/wp-content/uploads/53374_wiiiiiii_122_717lo.jpgOkay what the fuck, at least Subaru had familiar characters. Also, desgins aren't by Tsukasa Kotobuki, that was one of the main points of Toshinden.Ugh. Not as rage worthy as Castlevania Judgment, but still.
*Looks at new pics from Zantetsumug...WTF? Now I understand why you responded the way you did. Before your edit I was a bit confused...ugh, maybe it will at least PLAY like Toshinden...
Doing a sequel that has almost no returning character. In this case none, but who the heck knew who Ryu, Ken and Sagat was before SF2? i mean, besides a handful of people who played the first game. and this series is on a quite simillar situation(only a handful played the first games and now they are revamping with an all new cast and mechanics).
Tony 3rd said, October 16, 2008, 11:17:35 pmDoing a sequel that has almost no returning character.yeah except battle arena toshinden 1, 2, and 3 all had several returning characters (your analogy is terrible)
I hope to see the same people complaining on sf4 having mostly recycled characters now complain about toshinden not having recycled characters.
Tony 3rd said, October 16, 2008, 11:08:03 pmdon't loose all hope. they are just copying SF2 In that case I should lose MORE hope. SF2 played nothing like SF1I want a Toshinden that plays like a Toshinden. The only 3d fighter I ever played that felt like a 2d fighter.
Tony 3rd said, October 16, 2008, 11:17:35 pmDoing a sequel that has almost no returning character. They already did that for BAT: Subaru (4)And If by almost you mean ZERO, yeah.
If I remember correctly, the only returning character in BAT 4 were Eiji and Verm. Everyone else is either dead, missing, or retired. As I said, I don't want BAT4 to be canon.
You forgot Naru (And the only rage-worthy part about Subaru's story is that Sho is dead)Anyways, BAT Subaru is great, it has awesome gameplay and tons of minigames, and at least some characters were related to the previous cast (Bang-boo being from the same line of robots as Adam, Fen was related to Mondo, Puella to Uranus, Lancelot was Duke's son, and so on... Oh, Subaru was Sho's son..I think, it's been a while since I played it.)That and they retained Tsukasa Kotobuki's designs and in-game art. This new game... Eh, not even one returning character (From what I see in the scan), new art (I'm not saying it sucks, but Toshinden isn't Toshinden without Tsukasa Kotobuki)
Yeah, it played waaaaaaaay better, the system was great, I think a Toshinden with classic characters but the same system would be awesome. The deal with BAT3 was the stupidly low framerate, everything was so floaty; On the other hand it had a nice cast (David and Abel were nice additions), great OST and some awesome specials though (Sho's suicide move)... Well, you could play BAT3 at a higher framerate, but it looked horrible.
He definitely was the Akuma of the series (Had Sho and Kayin moves), and was quite awesome, his invisible uppercut move from BAT3 is quite impressive. If I recall, in Subaru's ending, Sho talks to him...from beyond the grave, I think he tells him something about his sword being one of the sacred treasures and that he's his father, But other than that they never give any details about his death, he just dies between 3 and 4, we don't know if it was due a sickness, "natural cause" or if he was killed at mid battle... And that's why they need to fill that gap with a better Toshinden, not this... thing.
If 4 does have better control than 3, I guess I'll give it a shot one day. Actually, I only started playing the series since last spring.Duke was badass in 2. Sure he had no ground attack, but he could drain the super bar of downed opponents. And I loved his running hard kick attack, being that overhead punch he did.
XGargoyle said, October 16, 2008, 10:08:57 pmI foresee a major suckageAnd you don't need a crystal ball to see that.
I remember months ago thinking that if there was a revival, it would suck, point blank. At least I may have called it.

Graham Aker said, October 17, 2008, 03:08:05 amAnyways, BAT Subaru is great, it has awesome gameplayI wonder if we played the same game. (or perhaps it was just PAL slowness)
PAL does have slower refresh rate, but better resolution, dunno though, the game had speed settings and I think I tweaked them a bit. It's faster than previous Toshinden titles, regardless.
