PC Graphic Question? Need help!

  • Get it? F......U.....Ummm....I'll get in trouble.
Hi everyone, I have a HP Pavilion dv6607nr entertainment notebook PC, and I recently got the games Portal, Gears Of War, and BioShock and I noticed that they run a little slow and graphics are blocky. Well since I'm a noob, I need to know what I need to get in order to make games run the best.

Thanks to everyone in advanced.

I thought PC games inlcuded the system requirements on the back of the boxes. Or when you install the games, they should tell you what you need to make them run good.

Laptops usually always suck for gaming.  The only thing I could suggest is to lower the video settings in each game's options.

According to the specs in hp.com, the dv6607nr has a "real" graphic card (that is, not integrated), so new games should run decently. Try to check the different resolution options and use one that is proportional to 1200 x 800. Also disable anti-aliasing, that usually boosts speed.

That laptop comes with Vista preinstalled and only 1 Gb of RAM. Not enough memory for gaming as Vista almost sucks all of it.

Downgrade to XP SP2, if you can

The RAM & CPU are both perfect.

The graphic card really sucks bad (NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M graphics card) and unfortunately, you cannot replace it and the games you mentioned (except for portal) need a really beefy graphic card, they will only run at the lowest settings @ 640x480 resolution.

Bioshock can run but don't expect Gears of War to run at all (i've got both of them,i know how they perform)

Portal will run fine at low-medium settings @ 800x600

Also Upgrade to XP SP2 if you want Portal and Bioshock to run at all,Gears of War is really unoptimized.

I suggest you get Unreal Tournament 3 as its really optimized well and can run on low-end systems pretty well at low-mid settings (and i can pwn you online :P)

So if I get a new graphics card will the performance dramatically increase?
Do you have any card recommendations .

You cannot change the graphics card on a laptop since they're soldered on the motherboard.

Get a PC (for serious/old school gaming) or a console (for amateur/pickup and play gaming)

I myself have a PC with a AMD Athlon 64 3000+ CPU,1GB Kingston Ram and a Geforce 6600 256mb (which can run new games perfectly at medium settings)

BTW,You could type all those stuff in 1 post instead of making multiple posts.

Yeah, I know, these are my specs (it's a laptop), and I can only make it turn smoothly at minimum settings with 2 or 3 settings at medium (textures for example) :(
