Let's talk about Samurai Shodow series^^ I've been playing the games ever since the 1st game for Super Nes which unfortunatelly suffered the censorship butchering and both Neo Geo and Arcade versions as well. I don't got in Samurai Showdown 3, but I managed to beat the arcade version of Samurai Shodow 2 arcade and PC versions with several characters like Haohmaru, Jubei, Gen-an, Kyoshiro and others.
the arcade versions were awesome. I loved 1 and 2, 3 wasnt too bad...but i dont care much for the others after.and please dont get me started on how awful sen is
5sp is the only game worth playing since it has the most players online4, while being a vast improvement over 3 is still broken (ukyofest)2 is just not very interesting
My first experience was SS1 in the arcade, but I still loved playing SS1 on SNES for a long time... even though it was obvious (even as a young kid at the time) that they castrated it. Still found it incredibly fun.MC-Truth said, July 05, 2011, 05:17:57 pm2 and 4 are the best. 5 is not all it's cracked up to be. 3 is horribad.This... especially 4. 5sp is very good too. 6 had a great roster, but there's far too many things wrong with that game. Never played the 3D variety, but they didn't look worth the time anyway.
Agree with all of you. 4 is the best for far, only followed by 2. 1 is a classic and 3 is great for its artwork (but it's hard as hell), 5 doesn't like me too much and 5sp it's a improvement but not enough to get the best. In 6 I only save the new characters (especially Iroha ) and that's all, since 5 the gameplay were fucked up And I played some of 3D games, mainly the 2 SS64 games for Hyper Neogeo 64 didn't played PSX's Warriors Rage and SS-Sen yet
Samurai Shodown was a fresh change from playing Street Fighter 2, although I tended to try and play it like Sf2 which didn't help much. SS2 for me was almost the pinnacle of the series. New characters, new moves, strategies, and awesome music. SS3 for me was a welcome evolution, with reimagined characters, good music... but the fighting just didn't feel 'fun'. SS4... well, although it refined on the combat, it lost a little charm with the loss of personalised music tracks (Barring certain characters), but to me.. it was the best of the bunch. Bust/Rasetsu Galford was easily my main here. SS5 was ok, but nothing great, SS5S was ok too.. and SS6 was, well a extended mashup of everything. Couldn't really get into it, although I really wanted to.

Warriors Rage was a shitty game that quite frankly could have had any characters in it, the only reason that it was a Sam Sho game was the inclusion of Haohmaru and Nakoruru in the cutscenes. Sen was just shit.
Basara Swan said, July 05, 2011, 08:09:41 pm3 is great for its artwork (but it's hard as hell)WTF upper mode + super spam = win. Not that hard. My fav is 4. Warriors' Rage was kinda meh.
Well, the CPU is annoying as hell, especially Ukyo and Galford GalFord said, July 05, 2011, 08:16:13 pmWarriors Rage was a shitty game that quite frankly could have had any characters in it, the only reason that it was a Sam Sho game was the inclusion of Haohmaru and Nakoruru in the cutscenes. That was intented to be like a MOTW for SS saga, but it didn't succeded on it. I know the game it's just bad, but still wanted to play it because of the story... and wanted to play with Kuki bros, Shinzo and old-tanned Haohmaru

Hell, I bought Sam Sho Sen for £50! I kept telling myself that it was to support release of SNK games in the UK, but it still makes me feel used and abused. SS IV is without a doubt the best in the series, but a bit *too* complex, if you ask me. I easily get lost with all the gameplay features and forget to utilize like half of 'em in competitive play.Samsho V SP I find enjoyable, despite the watered down system. Plus, it has my nigga Gaoh. If you're looking for a good old school experience, II is your friend. Dat pillar Wan-Fu.The rest I either don't give a shit about or haven't played yet. Would love to try out VI.
The complexity of SS4 is why I loved it. When I used to play in the arcades, I ditched all thoughts of 'Jump In Attack, Attack, Cancel to Special/Super', and turned to 'Wait, Bait, Annoy, Bait more, Block major attack, Screw over opponent'. Or, personal favourite was dropping your weapon as Bust Galford and either using his unarmed attacks, or baiting them to throw a meaty attack to use the sword-catch reversal.
GalFord said, July 05, 2011, 08:16:13 pmSen was just shit. Couldn't agree more. What the hell were they thinking actually releasing it?
DMK said, July 07, 2011, 03:22:05 amCouldn't agree more. What the hell were they thinking actually releasing it?I think they thought after the release of KOF MIRA in the arcades in Japan, the Sam Sho series needed an update. It could have been a really good idea, but sadly marred by the same problems that the Hyper NeoGeo 64 versions had. It was trying to be a 3D game with 2D characters. Although a lot of people wouldn't like to hear it, it could have worked if the game had tried to use a system similar to SF4. 3D models in a 2D fighter.
Love samurai shodown! One of my favorite series of all time! The original still holds a place in my heart, but 4 is easily the best in the series. Really want to try Sen just to see how bad they screwed it up.
Satou Sei~ said, July 07, 2011, 04:06:13 pmhave you two played the game ?As I stated earlier, I have the game, it was more than lackluster, and the gameplay just wasn't fun. Maybe I should have just said 'It should have remained a 2D series'. Of course, this is only my opinion.
Recently buying the Samurai Shodown PS2 collection, I'm finding that I'm enjoying Samurai Shodown 1 and 2 the best. From SS3 on, it just doesn't feel the same with the addition of all the sub systems, and complicated moves. My favorite part of the series is that the battles are really slowed down, possibly the pinnacle of the type of gameplay that made every hit count as opposed to the combo focus on todays games.
Incidentally, my favorite one is SS3. Mainly because it's fast paced, too bad it's broken as hell and every CPU opponent has SNK Boss Syndrome.
I'm quite curious about what you're all saying about the 3rd game. The only SS game I have is the second. So I don't understand how such a good game turned bad in the third release. Why did that happen?
Pal said, July 07, 2011, 08:31:25 pmtoo bad it's broken as hell and every CPU opponent has SNK Boss Syndrome.Basically because of this. But SS3 brought the definitive design will have all the sequels with a cool shading. Every time I tried to play this game, I can't pass from 2nd enemy, no matter how many credits I have

I always liked Jubei, that I lost interest in SS3 when it came out. Also, the game is pretty disappointing with the endings.
loved samurai shodown 1 and samurai shodown 2 ...3 and 4 more or less didn`t get the feeling of those.....5 not liked it 5sp i liked it less than 5....samurai shodown 64 no like it.....warriors of rage it was pure shit even soulblade(another samurai and ninja game of the 90's) was better....samurai shodown 6 that day i played it was the best thing ever for 30 seconds..then i forgot it ever existed...samurai shodown sen(don`t care how is it called you all know wich one is)i found soulcalibur from arcade 100times better and dc soulcalibur 100000000000 times better........snk should do a remake a samurai shodown 2 in HD please.....

well i was thinking like a true hd version of it.......of samurai 2 of course.....is a true shame these series will never shine again just like samurai 2 did...

Good think NRF has converted and released a decent SS2 Jubei You mean that one which drop the sword and have some SS1 voices? That one is disappointing, doesn't make sense and is overpowered and specially when he loses the sword. I got really mad with Jubei absence in SS3. If SNK stopped giving too much focus in KOF, then we could have Samurai Showdown with decent new titles, SS2 is a classic, but we cannot just close the door for the future, right? Nobody can expect what we can have in the future, but SNK must do their part, which is difficult to happen so soon.
You can hope for snk to make a kof fighitng game based on teh do storyline, that one has samsho characters.
Samurai Shodown eh? Interesting. The Samurai Shodown Series has one of my favorite characters in there. Samsho 1: I haven't really played it in a long time. All I remember is trying to hit the guy with a hard slash with Haohmaru and Wan-Fu having a scimitar. I should replay it sometime since I have the rom. Samsho 2: It's pretty much the Street Fighter 2 of the Samsho series. I mean it's pretty straight forward. I mean it's pretty fun, but I only really use Cham Cham in there. Respect the classics yo.Samsho 3: I've heard all around that it's broken and just silly. The AI in the game is just plain annoying. I do like the palettes on the characters though. A few cool things about Samsho 3 though is everyone got new sprites and they added new characters like Basara, Shizumaru, Gaira Zankuro(even though he's a boss), and Rimururu who is my favorite character in the series. I really don't like the whole charging to fill your rage gauge in Samsho 3 though(it was optional to do that I know).Samsho IV: A hell of a lot better than 3 in my opinion and they added Kazuki and Sogestsu. I won't lie when I say I actually do like the chain dial up combo thing, but I don't like the fact that it fills up the rage gauge with a full combo because that's too silly, but I still abuse it anyways...and Rimururu's infinite. I do think it's neat that everyone gets a powered up version of some of their moves when their rage gauge is filled. I mean the game is fun, but it can get pretty silly. Oh well I still find it pretty fun. Also, I'm still sad that Cham Cham was only in the PSX version of Samsho IV. She was pretty awesome in there, but you could only use her in VS mode. Samurai Shodown V: Funny thing about this is Vanilla V was the second samsho game I played because before that, the last Samsho I played was the first one on the SNES in like 94 or 95. I only really played it through with Rimururu and Mina who is another character I like, but thats about it. It's too bad you couldn't fight the boss version of Gaoh in V Special which is lame. It's too bad Yumeji didn't make it into V Special, but Sankuro can eat a dick.Samurai Shodown V Special: I really do enjoy this one so I'm not even gonna lie and it's the Samsho game I play the most. I mean the game does have some silly stuff in it, but I enjoy playing it and it added some more character in it so that's pretty neat I suppose. I really do like the gameplay in there though. The Zetsumi Ougi's are cool and all, but if your playing against someone that knows how to play, then your gonna be landing them. ZO's are sometimes a good counter for someone that goes into state of nothingness because you can catch em when they're trying to attack you. I wish they would have released final edition though because it would have had all the characters from Samsho 1 - V. I still find it funny how Examu(Yuki Enterprises) went from developing Samsho V and V Special to making Arcana Heart. Talk about weird.I tried Samsho VI a little bit, but due to lag with the PS2 emu, I couldn't play it to the fullest extent so I don't really have an opinion. The only thing I really wanted to see is some of the things my favorite characters had and thats about it. I don't like Mina and Rimururu's voice change in there though.I recently tried Samsho 2 on the Neo Geo Pocket and...well not much to say. It's nothing to be taken seriously, but it's pretty neat I suppose. You can collect cards that up your attack boost, defense boost, and two cards that can give your character access to two more special moves. You can only use two cards though.I kinda tried Samsho 64 Warrior's Rage on mame 32UI, but it's still incomplete so not much to say. As for Samsho 64, the warrior's rage on PSX(which is not related to the arcade version), and Sen...well never played em. I would only buy Sen for the lulz just to see how bad it is since it's hella cheap now. XDI would like to play the Samsho RPG, but Deuce never released the english patch. I hope the next Samsho game SNK makes will be good, but who knows if that will ever happen now. : \
