I searched the forums to see if there was a similar thread but I didn't see one.  What I was wanting to know is what controller you use to play Mugen.  I really need a controller with the typical six face buttons like the old Segan Saturn had (It was perfect for SF games).  I at first tried the Saitech P990 (http://www.futurelooks.com/uploads/271/p990.jpg) but it was a bit bulky and the D-Pad kept breaking.  I found the Saitek P220 (https://www.mpcoutlet.com/store/images/gamepad.jpg) and it worked better but it still wasn't as good as the old Sega Saturn controllers.  I have since bought a Quickshot (http://www.geocities.co.jp/EpicureanTable/1095/tora/usbstrike.jpg) but its buttons are a bit still stiff and such.  I then wasted my money on two Logitech Wingman (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41NJVVHHC3L._AA280_.jpg) -the D-pad could hardly do a QCF.  The closed was the Genius MaxFire Pandora (http://www.bgslevi.cz/images_k/DCD0227.jpg) but its D-pad is a little to loose.  I reluctantly have gone back to my P220 for now.  So in summary any controller that works the closest to the old Sega Saturn controller is the best and what I'm hoping to find.  Anyways sorry for the long post and I tried using the "Add a hyperlink "button but I don't know how it works.

No a true PS2 Replica that works great would have to be Logitechs Duel Action Controller, if you set it up right the software that comes with it you can use it as a mouse :D, without joy to mouse; its pretty neat to mess with even games that dont have controller functions you can set it up for them overall a good controller the only problem i had was finding the drivers at first its really easy to find if you lose the disk i just wasn't thinking right.

here's the model i have;

http://cdn.overstock.com/images/products/etilize/images/120/1010181005.jpg

Duel action controls all work the same the otherone just looks neater, but i wanted a exact replica of a ps2 control.

Indeed, and it would be perfect if the D-pad on that controller didn't feel so flimsy and wasn't made of cheap plastic. I have one as well and it feels like the D-pad is ready to break any day now :-\

It would also help if the outside of the analog sticks were rounded instead of squared. Bleh, whatever I guess  ::)

That's the japanese style saturn pad which was smaller and much more comfortable than the us saturn pads.

It's available in original saturn version, ps2 version, and there's a usb version.

I use the ps2 version since it has one extra button (select button).

Best pad ever.
Very nice !!! Also, the cross looks like the old 6-button Genesis joypad cross, which was the very best IMO for fighting games.
Sega Saturn pads just made my hands hurting when I used them.

Also, my pad :

How are is someone able to use a PS2 controller on a PC are you using an adapter?

Plus I did find that Sega made a few USB Saturn controllers which would be perfect but they are out of print and I haven't been able to find someone who is selling one. :(

I guess I have to buy the PC Magic box which lets you adapt a regular Saturn controller to USB.

I read that the D-Pad for one user made it hard to do diagonal moves and such what has been your experience is the D-Pad as good as the Saturn's?  I was hoping to know before I make a purchase.  Thanks!

Talking about the SF Anniversary collection gamepad ?

Not as good as the old genesis gamepad, I think it's a very good pad nonetheless.
Buttons don't heart my hand, half circles come out smoothly (contrary to the basic PS2 controller, where I suck like hell, and can't even perform a quarter circle :().
It gets some hours to get used to it, but I definitely like it very much.

side and L1 L2 R1 and R2 buttons on tops. and the d - pad is great i play my mugen on it.

Logitech PS2 styled controller. hard to get used to at first, since the top is bulky with those 3 shoulder buttons, pulling off the supers involving 2 buttons hard at first, but now i've gotten used to it. before i used a simple microsoft controller i found in my closet. 4 buttons, plus 2 shoulder buttons. it lacked an extra button for a start button though. now a days i still use both, mostly so a friend can use a controller if one comes over and plays mugen with me.

for some reason i find the stick more comfortable than the pad(and i mean any pad in general since you cant use the 360 pad for mugen), and thats a first for me. and about the controller not working, its probably because the software wasnt downloaded.

I found that learning characters was easier with a Dpad (I used a logitech PS2-style for that), but after I got used to them, it was easier to more quickly pull off moves with the 360 pad's joystick.

I use keyboard since I like to rest my hands rather than holding them in the air. Also the attacking buttons seem to feel like arcade. I can do most of the default moves there and I just change the commands for impossible moves like 720 spin or super vertical charge motion. (Funny that I have no problem pulling off those moves on MAME using the very same keyboard.)

I use a PS3 controller.  Waiting to get a netbook with bluetooth, so no wires!

What sucks about the PS3 controller is that you can only use the analog, not the D-Pad for the movements.  Has anyone found a way to use the D-Pad?

Did you download the third-party Sixaxis drivers? I swear I could use D-Pad with no problem, though I used analog due to preference.

I got the ones off of dl.qj.net that you posted.  When I test the control in windows Game Controllers, it recognizes the inputs of the dpad.  However, in mugen, it wont assign.

Mugen doesn't support vibration, so it would be useless if you intend to use it just for Mugen.
And if you plan on using Capcom characters which are 6 buttons, you should really try getting a 6 button joypad instead of the PS style one with 4 buttons + the triggers.

yeah i agree. i got this one at a yard sell without the demo key. but its either dificult or impossible to use it on mugen.

Most of the time, my brother 2nd player uses that to fight me with.
It's been a while since I've played with a friend on mugen
Sometimes I use it, but I'm used to my crappy Compaq keyboard.

Mugen doesn't support vibration, so it would be useless if you intend to use it just for Mugen.

MUGEN docs said:
------------------------------------------------------------

ForceFeedback

------------------------------------------------------------

Creates force feedback for supported force feedback devices. Currently, the only such devices are Playstation dual shock controllers using the engine's native support.

IINM, that's vibration right? :blank:
