I never did understand why after Kof 01 or 02 why "Kusanagi" was so popular among people? I don't get it?! People making their own version that may not be any different from the left to right but whats the deal?

Bec. he's just awesome? Well, I dunno. I really didn't care much about the char. before his appearance in 2k3. That's when he became relevant and when they reinvented him in 2k2UM making him much more sinister, he became a really interesting character.

But what is the "real" difference other than him I guess having some of Kyo's original moves on him and a darker skin color, what is it about him thats so damn special?! He's nothing but a clone whether he was made by Chizuru or not, he's no diff from those Kyo clones in 99?

He's DARK, he's a BAD BOY. Anti-heroes are popular.
If I struggled to the end of my determination, to the end of my way of life with my followers, if the result is ruin, then this ruin is inevitable. Grieve. Shed tears. But you cannot regret.

DARK?! WHAT?! Alright I never really have played 02 or 03 because they never really made it over seas due to pricing, but seriously it's because he's "Dark"?

Just listen to how he yells like he's going to tear your guts out through your ears. Ingame, he's more unique than the other because he actually has a different voice actor.

Well, he's popular, not necessarily more popular than the real Kyo. But then again, Kyo doesn't do much anymore, storywise, it's almost as if he's just here. Kusanagi is linked with the whole NESTS thing, which just got a boost with Nameless. So I'd think that storywise, he's getting more popular than Kyo himself. Of course, that has nothing to do with their respective movesets.

Uh ? The voice makes the character. What kind of things could you like a character for ? For his personnality - that's his voice. If his voice is badass, then the character is badass. Is "he's badass" not a good enough reason for you ?? :blank:

You'd be surprised how big a difference voice can make. See also: Alex in Second Impact as opposed to Third Strike. Would you rather play him sounding like Michael Jackson or the one that could sound badass even if he sang little bunny foo foo?

characters in games are defined by little, you got their moves, their sprites and their voice.

He already had good moves, his sprites were alright, his voice tipped the scale.

I like K9999 for his voice and hated his spriteset, for instance.

Could be worse, could be like those bad HK KOF comics where one of the Kyo clones dressed like Clone Zero with Igniz's tentacles instead of the cape blades.  That was just...  odd...

Speaking of voices, wtf happened to O Zero?  His new voice sounds awful, he seems like a teen now instead of a badass NESTS executive >:(

You're an idiot.
Compared to Terry and Ryo, '94-'95 Kyo was cocky as fuck, and he wasn't a generic "good guy" (Guess what? Kusanagi is a reflection of how cocky and rude was old Kyo, he changed when Goenitz kicked his ass, pre-96 tournament, Kyo realized he needed a clear mind [most likely an excuse for the different move list] instead of pure rage to fight, pretty much like Domon Kasshu's change from Super to Hyper mode in G-Gundam)

Finally, I'd like to quote this for emphasis:

Don't know if it's cannon, but I recall reading somewhere that in a certain manga, Kyo would start changing his attitude after getting his ass kicked by some regular guy in his school, thanks to the lack of control he had in his flames. That's also why he started to develop his chains, to rely less on throwing flames around. He didn't changed too much anyway, he still has those arrogant win quotes. ;P

Kusanagi in the other hand doesn't really define cocky nor rude, he is more like a berseker (2002 Kusanagi, that is).

Nah I think the '96 prologue thing is canon, If I recall correctly it was KoF96's Japan team background story.
Ditto about cloning with school outfit, what the heck. At least some of the HK manga clones had NESTS outfits (Zero or Krizalid outfit, whatever)

At least Heidern gave the clones a different outfit IIRC.
Speaking of which, the clones that Heidern saved and used as a special ops team should be alive, so...uh, one or two could appear in KoF XIII.

Well after, 98 Kyo was still in school. He dropped out after NESTS cloned him. So that can be a reason why all his clones wear a school uniform. Kyo changed his attire to look different, show hes the original. Thats also probably why he burned his bandana and dropped out of school because NESTS was after him.

They should've given Kusanagi a different MAX2, Mushiki is just... meh, I mean, Kyo-2 has it as a SDM.

hahaha... I never say he was a generic char... so don't put words on my mouth...
Hahaha, IRONY.
I never said he was a "generic character" I said generic GOOD GUY.
When he appeared in '94 he was far from your stereotypical good guy (Clear enough? or do you need an explanation in spanish, because you sure as fuck can't read english)
second... kyo (old one) was cocky, but not much that rude, you could easily target him like the "good guy" on the game... no matter what...
You're basing that premise in the fact that you already know his story up to KoFXI, GOOD JOB.

First off, Terry was supposed to be the lead in KoF94 (The lead of the game always appears in the HOW TO PLAY screen, guess what?)
Second, sure, I can "target him" (Kyo) like the good guy before finishing the first game, right? I mean, especially after hearing/reading the translation of whatever he says during his special moves, am I right? Wrong.
SAME THING APPLIES TO KUSANAGI, he has the same type of winquotes (And again, he's a reflection of early Kyo, that is, 2003/Canon Kusanagi)
Sure, he's demonic in 02/02UM, which is a dream match.

Ryu has some cocky quotes when he defeats you...but I still see him like a "good guy"  --;
Ryu? Cocky quotes? WHEN? Show me a quote (You obviously won't)
The guy isn't cocky he's blunt and honest, but still honorable.

He was still in high school in '97. '98 doesn't happen, it's a Dream Match. He was taken by NESTS for over a year at the end of the '97 tournament, after he beat Orochi, and comes back only in '99, obviously having dropped out of school.

........... I have this move that is my biggest weapon. If you take it in the face, usually, you're going down. So yeah, if you can't beat that move, you'll have a hard time beating me, because I sure as hell am going to use it, and when I use it, you're going down. So if you want to beat me, you should come up with something to beat that move.
Just saying "you don't stand a chance" would be cocky, but he's basically telling his opponent what to do to win here.
Oh, and you're an idiot, taking for granted what you know happens afterward when discussing what was going on when a character first appeared.

Of course he will not name call you since you own him. I mean, I'd be pretty pissed if my dog name called me.

"drama"
That word is thrown around too much (like "trolling").  Drama is throwing a fit or pouting when you can't control people (manifests in Mugen through closed sites and the like), this here is just the random Internet argument.

Kusanagi is great because of his badass voice. And the Mugen edits are even greater because of the red eyes. Yeah, red eyes make the character more Eviler !!!

  • and the show goes on
i like iori yagami, he's badass.
Unfortunaly he could wear some sort of special force clothing let's say, like Hank of Resident Evil, with a rebelling touch, and give him a bit deeper voice.... ok his voice is ok how it is.
When i think that i'm good enough to draw something decent, i'll show you! :3
And the better thing would be if he could be more speed based, due to his slash attacks and so on, don't it?
It's just my opinion tough :P

sorry to be offtopic, but Wild Tengus comment about Wild Tengu was annoying me in some sort of way that i feelt myself provoked to say something.

As someone who has never played KOF can someone give examples of the voice acting between "Kusanagi" and Kyo?

Imagine a zanguief runing to attack ryu, ryu does a quick+kind of weak fast punch and hit the chest of zanguief, will this punch be enough to zanguief say/think \"oh no, this punch hurted a little, I better stop the attack and put my hand on my chest to help contain the pain while ignoring if ryu is going to make other attacks now"

Kyo's sounds : http://kod.trinitymugen.net/kyo2003sounds.rar

Kusanagi's sounds: http://kod.trinitymugen.net/kusanagisounds.rar

Kyo's voice actor doesn't have much recognition but he's done Kyo's voice in all KoF's since '94 (Masahiro Nonaka)

Kusanagi's voice actor is one of the most recognized voice actors most known for performing Kaneda's voice in Akira and he also did Sean's voice in SF3 (Mitsuo Iwata)

I'd love to, but I can't download stuff on computers that aren't mine.
