I'm watching Superman and I see these guards shooting at Kal-El's Dad (not Clark's dad, Superman's biological father), I think one of the lasers hit him or something but whatever, the point is I started thinking;
shooting with those lasers are so thoughtful. I mean if you actually get hit with one then you'll only get a burn and a hole, but if they were mad enough to use bullets then you'd get the stinging burn/the hole AND you go through the process of removing the bullet and/or fragments. But then again, the laser should go all the way through your body if hit.

So my question to you is would you rather be shot by a gun and bullet (your pick of reasonable types) or a laser gun.
The bullet will possibly go all the way through and if it doesn't then the bullet will have to be removed (multiple times if the bullet shattered inside).
The laser will go all the way through your body from the point of impact and it will burn, but all you're left with after the second it passes through is the painful feeling of the heat and open wound.

If you don't already know what kind bullet/laser they are or what gun they're being shot from then just take your pick from any reference you want, so long as they aren't unreasonable.
Unreasonable like how "Fallout" lets everyone and everything take like 15 '9mm' bullets alone to kill one thing or how "Dalek" (I don't know what this is) lasers kill you in one hit. If you want to use unreasonable choices as your reference and you want to let people know about that, then post about it  :).

Bullet wounds can repair if the gun is not too powerful.
With a laser, you get a complete hole in the body, and would look like these bad guys in Bleach.

Since I can't choose the above, I went with laser. It's more cool to be shot by a laser than by a gun.

That depends entirely on what kind of laser.  If it's a Stormtrooper blaster laser, I'd go with that over a bullet because it'd never actually hit me.  If it's a Dalek style one-shot instant kill, I'll take my chances with a regular gun.

i'm sure a bullet to an organ is about as 'permanent' as a laser
in fact, i can't really think of a shittier thing for an organ than bullets

guns seem like less of joke
in this day and age, the man with the laser is probably just giving his gun hand cancer

Okay, I thought it was self-explanatory but I'll update the question/option:
Bullet or Laser, if you don't already know what kind they are or what gun they're being shot from then just take your pick from any reference you want, so long as they aren't unreasonable.

If you even wanted to say the lasers are being shot from a sniper rifle laser gun and the bullets are being shot from a shotgun, go ahead, you're the one being shot  ;P

a laser (if we ignore the catch on fire part of it). Let's say there are two kinds of places in your body where you can get shot, lethal and non lethal, if a laser hits a lethal spot you die the same as if you get shot with a gun so no differencies there; but if you get hit on a non lethal spot witha laser the gun might still kill you because bullets can bounce when hitting your bones / organs.

Sure, being shot by .44 magnum is certainly pleasant... not.

I'd rather be shot by laser than by any bullet. Bullets tend to create internal pressure that will damage tissue and organs around the area that was hit.

bullets tend to make pretty nice holes in people, without the pesky cauterization and with the added bonus of ricocheting inside of you

I have terrible medical experience because I slept 70-90% of school time till after high school, minus lunch/recess so  :snore:......
If you get shot and the bullet is shattered, let's say a minimum of 3 pieces, you'll have to feel the pain of your organs being pinched around for like +20 seconds x3, then you'll have to wait for your body to heal all of the wounds. Hey, do doctors stitch up the bullet hole and the holes in your organs (if so, then you got that pain too)?

If you get shot by the laser then, if you're bleeding, you just have to cover the holes to stop the bleeding until a doctor patches it up. Also, I just realized I never actually thought about the laser patching up your organs part, I only thought about the hot feeling :XD:.

Also, if it needs to be stated, we're not talking quarter to soccer kind of laser holes here, were talking about 1cm/half an inch(or however small 9mm bullets are) or unless the bullets from the gun are a bigger size, then the laser is a bigger size as well.
Now about the me not paying attention in class, wouldn't your organs heal over time in both occasions(except you have to wait till the bullets are removed) and does the doctor stitch up all the holes (and would this apply to the laser as well, with the cauterization)?

Just a random thought:   If we're assuming the existence of weaponized lasers, wouldn't they be exactly that:  weaponized?  If it's a level of technology that allows for lasers to be fired as weapons, then they'd almost certainly have been designed to do more damage than a moderate burn and an instantly cauterized wound.  Otherwise what would be the point of using them over bullets?  Realistically, getting hit by a laser would likely be as bad as, if not a hell of a lot worse than, a bullet.

ideally a laser would go through obstacles a bullet can't, then again hte military is giving more priority to railguns over lasers.

I read a lot about this gun.

Its funny that to recharge him you just have to put him into sun or throw into fire :P
First of all you dont have to carry ammo to battlefield, you dont have to reload (sometimes they might overheat), they are much lighter and have much bigger fire power than lets say M4, AK47 OR even M41a.

In Starship Troopers basic infantry weapon is Laser Rifle with unlimited ammo(CHEATERS!), but its pretty weak so they still use bullets, but in much bigger gunz, same goes to Imperial Guard from WH40k.

So:
Laser Gun is perfect as basic weapon, but still you must use bullets in bigger gunz 'cause of overheating.

Come to think of it, we're already talking about weaponized lasers because, a laser COULD be weak enough to actually hit a person and leave a big burning sting on them without actually piercing the body in one shot ;P.

Also isn't a laser gun a gun that shoots beam stems of energy/light (such as star wars) and a ray gun can shoot a constant beam (or is a ray gun something different and those two are just types of lasers)?
Note: Just another thought, since lasers are highly variable.

first my answer: laser. reason, it might not penetrate, depending on its strength, duration, and frequency. (even a .22 can kill, you know, traveling internally and such.)

now to get nerdy; in Star Wars the bulk of those "blasters" are plasma bursts, not lasers. they kill from shock and impact, not heat. and Dalek lasers are probably like Star Trek phasers that stun or disintegrate a target. (i think they are like lasers but, wait "PHoton MAsers" they have a setting for the duration and strength.)

well; just thinking here to myself; it seems that you're going to have to specify the parameters of this little contest. good luck.

lol, I already did. There are a variety and fictional/non-fictional guns that shoot different types of bullets and there is another variety of fictional/may-be-non-fictional-in-the-future guns that shoot laser and/or laser-like ammunition, so it is up to each individual to take their pick of one gun from each of those categories and then compare those two guns and choose which one they'd rather be shot by, so long as the weapons aren't too absurdly different in damage.

The only thing I can tell you, as a rule for this, is what classifies as a gun and what classifies as a laser gun (i.e. gun that shoots knives doesn't count as a gun :)) but I'm pretty sure everyone understands that part already.
