Title: Blade Strangers
Post by: aokmaniac13 on June 12, 2017, 06:07:38 am
From the dev team that brought you Blade Arcus, a crossover game featuring characters from Code of Princess, Sayonara Umihara Kawase, and Cave Story

Oh wow this is quite a surprise. I loved Code of Princess and Cave Story was good for the short time I played it.

They have my main man Mr. T in the roster. Hell yes.

Is it me or does this game look slower than your usual fighter?

It's pretty slow, which is kind of a shame considering that inputs are "smash-like" already so you could have a faster game and still have no problem pulling off special moves.

I dig the sprite work, but it looks boring as hell.

I'll just tide over for a Mugen conversion. And I don't even like Binding.

Going to be a epic race to Mugen, Quote vs. Issac.

Shovel Knight was very predictable, which doesn't make it less awesome. Pretty sure we'll have Shantae as well.

Heck, I want Dana Zane from VA-11 Hall-A on it now!

So is this just Indie Games:  The Fighting Game?  I'm down with it.  It'd be cool to get Lilac from Freedom Planet in on it as well. Or Monika.

Now that it's becoming clear what this game is, it ain't an indie party without Meat Boy

And Dust already has a robust moveset to choose from as well

ANIME + INDIES YEAAAA
Title: Re: Blade Strangers

Anime Shovel Knight is looking taller than I expected.
I wonder how many more characters are left to be revealed.  And who they'll be.

Anyone else think that the gameplay shown in the recent videos look better than the older ones?
Game seems faster somewhat and the animations look less funky.

It bugs me that Princess Boobulon seems to be being pushed as the main character.  That's such a garishly horrible design, and they keep sticking her in front the other characters who look way better.

its a skullgirls situation, theres probably someone that spent ages designing this and they ended up making a protagonist that is way too fetishy to look decent in anyway.
Title: Re: Blade Strangers
Post by: R565 on May 12, 2018, 04:06:19 pm
Yup, and it's a shame too, an anime indie cast fighter and the first thing people see is that fetishy design for the somewhat main fighter. With that aside, I love the intro and can't wait to see what's in store for this game...hopefully DLC if the game does well...

Edit: Had a funny thought of Hat Kid being in this game.

I'm pretty hyped for the game.

Inb4 Sans Undertale gets into the game.

I think it's really cool to see so much Indie love, but to what cost? I feel like it's just a huge cop-out. The indie characters are stealing the show, and that means the characters themselves will be overshadowed, and lost in translation. At least what I feel after seeing this. Sort of like the game has an identity crisis, not knowing what it fully want.

The art looks great tho, so I will keep an open eye for this.
Think Quote and Shovel Knight are my favourite Indie captures here thus far.

No one cared for who I was until I gotten those indie darling in my game...

Aren't all the characters "indie" already though?
I thought there's around only two original characters.

Post by: R565 on May 14, 2018, 04:44:17 am
There was this one smash game on steam that boasted being indie and even having Dust in the game. They stopped working on it because of in fighting, but this game feels like this but a better understanding. It had original fighters as well but people came for the indies.

Indie Game Battle. This game looks way too well put together to die the same way IGB did, I must say, even if none of the guests so far sell the game for me.
Title: Re: Blade Strangers
Post by: TrinitroRoy on May 14, 2018, 10:14:23 am
Honestly, I'm glad IGB is dead. The game looked extremely amateurish, and the creator of the game is also kind of a dick who doesn't listen to feedback whatsoever and is even willing to backstab his own men.

Post by: R565 on May 14, 2018, 01:37:18 pm
Yeah, the basic "I don't like this character, either do something with them or I will" that bad bosses usually do. There are a handful of stories with that team. I just made comparisons because the indie fighters are looking to be what people will buy the game for and the game might not have loyal fans for the core game. But I do like the idea for IGB....just that the head of the team is full of crap.

Wasn't a fan of the 1-button special set-up, but it works for this.  It is easy to pick up, but it does take time to get really good.  Fundamentals are there, and it fun to play.  I recommend it.  Would be nice if there were a couple more characters.

Nice to hear this game is still kicking.

I just bought it and gave it a session in Training Mode because I love random as hell crossovers like these. Pleasantly surprised that despite it's Arc Sys style appearance, it is a very "ground based" game. Sorta like Street Fighter 3 with Alpha-esque defense mechanics, and a low health "super armor" mode. Gorgeous effects too.

Who is this Aban character, and what is "Crystal Crisis"? He looks like a Jones clone TBH. Very neat if if utilizes "ruin traps" though. Can we please have this game's lifebars for Mugen?

Crystal Crisis is a puzzle game that Nicalis has been busy developing and promoting for the past few months.  That game is also very crossover heavy with the number of characters that are appearing.

Aban Hawkins is the main character of 1001 Spikes formerly known as Aban Hawkins and the 1000 Spikes

Blade Strangers, gematsu reports (https://gematsu.com/2019/08/blade-strangers-update-to-add-three-new-playable-characters-from-1001-spikes-doki-doki-poyacchio-and-umihara-kawase), is going to add two and a half new characters in it's one year old anniversary: Aban (1001 Spikes) and Piaa (Doki Doki Poyacchio).
Title: Re: Blade Strangers
Post by: vgma2 on August 26, 2019, 06:44:33 pm
They teased Aban before, but the other two are a nice surprise.

3rd character is another version of Kawase.  Possibly her young version that appeared in her previous games.  At the moment it doesn’t seem like we have any info on if the two Kawases will play differently.

Yes, she's different from the vanilla Kawase:
