if you can't shoryuken on a controller
you won't able to do it on fighting stick neither.... unless you practice it a lot

for me, keyboard is the most easier way to do all kinds of moves except 360 circles...

True advantage for fighting sticks is
you can put all your fingers on the buttons so the reaction time is lesser than controller which need you to move your thumb from botton to botton, and the trigger is too deep to press.

and more easy to smash buttons
for example. chun-li 's lighting kicks. you rippedly press kicks on controller is crazy with just your thumb

but on fighting sticks you can press with all your 3 fingers at once. so the move is more easy to perform on fighting sticks.

For me its just years of experience using a controller for every fighting game i have ever played. I can play on keyboard as well, just not as good as i would like to.

I use to be a Key Board Warrior too, the best IMO is the PS2 controller when it came to Mugen.

The d-pad on the 360 controller is crap, so while it's not impossible to do combos on it (I've somehow managed), it's just unnecessarily difficult.

Getting a different arcade stick that's cheap depends on what you consider expensive.

IMO, if I were to make the direction inputs easier using an arcade stick, I'd get a MixBox arcade stick. It has WASD keys you'd find on a keyboard, but regular fight stick buttons and only goes for about $249USD.

Mugen is meant to be played using keyboard, any other way you play it is up to the user, more like a preference or something.
