Target Sighted. Commence...

I just liked Chimes while I was in boot camp, so this song was like the last thing I thought about prior to going to sleep.

Bon Moventiro
I was just trying out something and crashed and burned

Fortune's Guest House
"'A Little kid, alone in a guest house in Belgium. We dare not go there, though. who knows what he has.' 'I'm going,' Said Amarco.'"

Omage - Purgatory Stroll
Omage to Phantom 2040

.......the guild needs a music section (like the graphic arts and whatnot) dedicated to itself. Then you, me, and B. Marquis (don't know anyone else who makes music here) can discuss music theory and other good stuff.

I'd make use of this thread, except that I don't do music anymore. In addition, most of my stuff was made using Reason and a MAudio MIDI Keyboard remote......so, unless anyone uses Reason, I don't have anything to discuss.........except for general music theory.

since the sub-forum failed, try asking for a sticky.

It'd be nice if the staff just made a damn music section to begin with. It could house top fav song threads and possibly a sticky for music theory and whatnot.

Obviously that sounds too much like the right thing to do.

What for? Music is not directly related to MUGEN in almost any way. You can use it and that's basically it. Discuss what? That some european kids like Death/Black Metal and you like to compose your own?

I don't see this going places, and I'm pretty certain many people don't either. Hell, I bet I can find forums for each genre, even for each Band I like.

I understand you like hanging out here almost as much as I do, but you don't see me pushing a FINANCE Section in here, do you? I mean, some things are just unnecessary if you ackowledge these Boards are MOOGEN oriented.

...

Lets put it in my eyes and see what all in the Off-Topic section relates to mugen directly...

...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...
...

I mean, you did make the off-topic section to relate to mugen, right?

I mean, you can watch mugen on the watch section, right? so why it is that people get away with non-mugen related videos?

I mean, the Write Section is dedicated solely for the purpose to explain to non-english people across the world the beauty of this fighting game engine.

I mean, the Gaming section is for the purpose of discussing characters they want in mugen. I would love a 3d ryu in mugen, but not looking like the one in SF4... I really don't want any Tekken 6 Characters in mugen, but someone else does, lets talk about that, shall we?

I mean the Graphic arts are for people who post their work for the purpose of eventually putting them in mugen. With the exception of hand drawn, CG's and 3D Art, I would agree.

And don't get me started with The uncategorized rest here on the Gilligan's Isle called the Mugen Fighter's Guild.

And about necessity, you are right, some things aren't necessary if you acknowledge these boards are mugen oriented.

Original Characters with Original Graphics
Original Stages
Original Coding techniques and standards

I just want to add a little bit of potiential.

Not many people are spriters here, anyway. Many people can't code because they are new or lazy.

Mugen was born with the intent of originality.

Shaza.

I was caught up in a tornado last night (the second one in a row this week  :() and barely escaped a pub with my life.....I'm really not in the mood to debate.

My personal opinion is to just have a music section, just like there's one for gaming, writing, etc, that houses all the varoius duplicate topics about which band is your fav, top 5 songs, etc. It beats having duplicates in scattered areas of the guild.

And to say music is not directly related to MUGEN......well, that's your opinion (and the opinion of a few others I'm sure). Teaching one how to create your own music/sfx instead of having to depend on licensed sfx (or coders having to depend on licensed sprites for that matter  ;)) seems significant to me, and especially for those who would wanna learn.

I don't see this going places, and I'm pretty certain many people don't either.

Let democracy ring and have the users decide that.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to call some relatives to see if their homes are still standing.

Title: Re: Music makers topic o_O
Post by: The Aboriginal One on February 08, 2008, 09:02:03 pm
sure!

I've been writing pencil and paper-wise  since 1999, when I learned some music theory. I've been using the computer for music since 2001, starting with finale to make band music. I was serious to it  in 2002.

I like to compose with FL Studio (and even though I'm trying Reason, I'm still a die-hard FL Studio person) and for sheet music, Finale 2005 just in case I make a song and everybody's like "Can I get the sheet music?"

To tell the truth, I've been making simple rap beats for my friends. Just now, I'm beginning my Original Sound Track for my Story/Flash/Video Game Project.
Title: Re: Music makers topic o_O
Post by: #Shaun on February 08, 2008, 09:11:57 pm
I've been learning music theory since the first grade, playing the piano since 7th grade, using Reason since its inception, and writing music since 03 (I've only written four simple pieces though, so it's not like I'm bach or somethin)

Reason is a musician's dream because its a stand along softsynth workstation and a sequencer. It's purpose is to be a complete emulation of professional sound equipment at the fraction of a cost. It actually has a real representation of samplers and analog sequencers, and you can toggle on the backside and re-route wires to certian CV inputs (either for LFO ratings, gating, reverb, whatever). The only drawback that the program has is audio-in (no recording music into it).

......songs in C, C#, or F minor are king to me. I rarely make anything in a major key signature
Title: Re: Music makers topic o_O

B-flat major, C major or minor, or F-major is my key sig of choice.

and the only reason I don't use Reason now is no support for Vst plugins.

Death to VSTs!  ;P

No point in using a program that has to constantly have its FX generators updated (for a fee no-less) IMO. Reason is so pringles

I can't seem to describe it fully. It's haunting. at the intro. I like the melody. Calming, when you actually bounce to the beat. Relaying to the title, This song, to me, belongs to the gambler who wins everytime, or the casino which he either runs or frequents. If he doesn't run it, then owner must have an eye on him.

yes, I know, topic revival.

Would this be the right place to post if I have songs I'd like to introduce for mugen? What if I just want to show off some music I've been working on? The reason I ask is because I like using Finale to transcribe some of my favorite songs and saving them as Midi files. I've transcribed a few game songs, some pop songs, and some TV/movie songs, but I don't know where I can post them. vgmusic.com is only for game music, and some place like newgrounds is just too general. If I can't post here, could you recommend a site where I could submit my music projects? Thanks.

Posting in a relatively dead thread, but can someone tell me how do I get started on writing music? I want to try, but I don't know where to start.

Piano for 4-5 years, started guitar not too long ago. That's about it. I'm interested in rock (whatever this is categorised in, I really don't know. And I know the singer looks like he has down syndrome, I'm not too fond of this music video either (http://youtube.com/watch?v=vMsVaIP38gg)) and jazz, mainly.

Hmmm...I had a short tutorial set up to be posted but, I need to ask you this before I do so.

You've played piano for four or five years so you have a good understanding at reading sheet music (know about half-steps in scale degrees, circle of fifths, etc). What is it you're not sure about?
Title: My band
Post by: MC_GVP on June 23, 2008, 05:05:06 am
Hey guys... I've been singing with a band called Silvertrain, for about a year now. A month ago we started recording our first album... Even though we have a really good production and all that, we're not allowed to show the definitive mix but I want to know your opinion.

The songs:

Only time will tell.... A ballad.
(http://www.tindeck.com/audio/image/b/sswv) (http://www.tindeck.com/audio/my/sswv/01-Only-time-will-tell)

So High (Intro is called Cantina Blues and is about a minute long) David Bowie-esque hard rock song.
(http://www.tindeck.com/audio/image/b/azxi) (http://www.tindeck.com/audio/my/azxi/02-Cantina-Blues-_-So-High)

Loud. Surf, Punk, Grunge and Metal... al in one song
(http://www.tindeck.com/audio/image/b/qxbz) (http://www.tindeck.com/audio/my/qxbz/03-Loud)

If you like the music, please visit our myspace.... download the songs and show em to your friends. myspace.com/silvertraintheband (http://myspace.com/silvertraintheband)

We're pretty confident on having the album out by December/January, with a major label...  but we're still considering several options.

..wait what? Haha, sweet. :)

The melody is quite ok, sets up a boss mood. I suppose it would work great as boss battle bg music or a very tense atmosphere in the last parts of a dungeon.

About the instruments, the piano kinda makes the e-guitar sound out of place, and vice versa. On their own they sound fine throughout, but in the parts where they are together, it gets very obvious they are not really played harmonically but midi-'ed together.

/me goes listen to some more of your stuff. Huh, never saw this thread before :P

I'm listening to it again. I HATE YOU.
You remixed a shitty game song with a great electro-themed hiphop song based off of a shitty movie.
Mega Man series is a classic and so is the Quad City song.
You messed it up.
Messed up like Quentin Tarantino's nuts in Planet Terror.

well, i hope you don't plan to live out of this, just for fun it's ok however

i really don't like industrial (cept rammstein and linkin park time ago), and as 90% of the times in this genre live performance is inferior to the studio songs. tbh i thought you weren't good at all, you're not awesome+1, but better than my expectations . . .

now, who would like to make a "we singing" topic here at the guild, just for fun showing home (or pro?) recordings a capella?
you know ur afraid of my superior glissando bixhes

if you say 4 years, then you most likely beat me, since i started "singing" around 1 year ago, and never really cared that much for practice  :)
i still have some problems connecting chest and head voice D:

but if it's just for fun and no one will get upset, just open a new topic  ;)
it'd be a requisite to say something like "i'm c00per" before singing so no one "cheats", and maybe a link to the song (if cover)?

In fact, even if we are "industrial" in some way, what people tell us is that they like our show...
and also, we sound A LOT BETTER on live shows than on our records, cause the guitar is too much powerfull and drums are waaay to much heavy... nothing compared to the records

Quote
well, i hope you don't plan to live out of this, just for fun it's ok however
well, even if you don't believe it, I have faith on this project and musik...

a lot of people listen to our musik, specially on live shows, doesn't matter if they are young or old people, emo, metal, pop... that's why my expectations are so high... cause seems like everyone like our musik...

I mean... I have already say...or we are really good, or really comercial...  o_O

for example, there was a day, the worst of all our presentations..and I mean WORST!!!
we were so mad and angry that day, for many stupid reasons, and for the horrible sound that day...

later, I was contacted by a guy from a local bar, cause he was searching us to play there (his bar), even to get paid, cause he saw us that day and was impressed!!!...what?! impressed with the worst liveshow!?

fuck... trust me I can't believe it yet... of course, when we play on the new bar (the one of the video) he change his opinion, in fact he wanted a contract with us to be playing there every week...

but we are not a bar band, we are going for more!!  :sugoi:  :suttrox:

yes, the video has a really shitty quality, also that is the oldest song that we still play (and probably we will not play anymore)... and it was the first song that day, to open the show... like all the bands, we leave the best to the end...  :P

but it was the one with "better" quality on the video...

lucky or not, we are getting fans, and that's nice!!  :sugoi:

we were practicing yesterday and come up with a new song... the lirycs are this (translated)... a critic to religious people...

Quote
INTRO (scream)
1 ... 2 ... 3 ... I'm going to kill you... will forgive me .... (x2)
I will kill you, I will kill you, I will kill you, I will kill you (x2)

VERSE
in the name of your god ... the one that all can see
the massacre would be forget ... I only need to ask ...
forgiveness, ask forgiveness
my hands with blood, they will say anything
my guilty face is going to serve anything (x2)

well, most of the songs repeat words, but in different styles or voice... that's why I usually wrote them complete...

INTRO (scream)

it's true... god can forgive me if I kill people... he is so kind!!  ;P
so... why you don't forgive me?!  >:D

the 1... 2... 3... is a kind of game between the musik and the guitar... then I scream "I'm gonna kill you" (twice) :ninja:

Not bad, not bad at all. I'd still say you could do more with the lyrics though. Also I'd say if your not listening to Fear Factory and Ministry you should. Though they are more metal then industrial, I think you will like them.

yeah, those lirycs are simples, we have learn on the road that people prefers songs with easy lirycs, they feel more connected and some of them sing them when we are playing...

cause time ago I used to write more complicated songs, but... yeah, most of them are the songs we don't play anymore...

seriously, easy lirycs... more fans!!  :P

c'mon, that's not a general rule, and you know it  :P
yeah, I know... in fact I like complex lirycs...

but like I say... our more "stupid" songs are the ones who people like the most, or the requested ones when we are playing...

a curious data... we compose a song called "Idea" and it talks about the people who change at the same time as the fashion is changing, those one who are not defined...
well, I like the song cause it's a heavy one, but is not one of my favorites, and I found it really simple and nearly stupid on the lirycs... and people love it!!

we were on a contest of talents (won 2nd place), and when we play that song (never played before)... people sing it with us!!!

D:

I was screaming "estupida" and the people on the show too...

and everytime someone recognize us on another side they ask us... you are the ones who sing the "estupida" song... or easy...they just scream "yeaaah estupida"!!

xD

The looping is off. I like the mellow sounds, and the 3X 4/4 melody. It has some sort of eeriness in the loop, but I can't seem to get it now, for my eating always keeps me from thinking.

Universal Symphony.

This song was stuck in my head for the longest.

It's a theme to a secret area. Kinda like The Lost World in DK2. You have to find the secret entrances to this world. Every portal leads to an instrumentalist, and every instrumentalist has an optional side quest for you.

I made it spacey due to the fact that the game is space-orientated. Last minute I found a jazz bass and switched it from the original synth bass.

Right now, I didn't name the instrumentalists, but if you would like to help, here are all the instruments in the song:

Bass
Piano
Bells
Trumpet 1:
Trumpet 2:
Trumpet 3:
Violin 1:
Violin 2:
Violin 3:
Bassoon
Drums/Percussion:

it's not that bad, and it's an ambient sound not the crappy "4.th class" techno you hear everywhere.

It sounds pretty good.
But theres a lot of timing and tuning issues. If you guys are going to keep playing shows then you and the guitarists should really invest in Boss Chromatic Tuner pedals.
They're really good for a quick tuning.

Also, it's just a suggestion, but maybe try tuning down a half step. Your singer might benefit from it.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, you're by far the most natural looking in your band as far as moving on stage goes

Very good!!
Your music looks like its progressive? Correct me if I'm wrong. I notice alot of rythm shifts.
Might as well add some catchy rythms for your next releases too.  :)

The production is really bad, I can't blame you though, good equipment is really expensive. Sounds like there are two guitars (or just one) just "in the middle", what you do is track one guitar to the left channel and one to the right (not 100% pan though, just 60-80%).

The mix is horrible though. You pretty much only hear drums and keyboards and sometimes a bit of bass.

Suprisingly, I've never played an instrument; I'm an ear composer. I use FL studio XXXL Producer Editon. It's been custom made to fit my specifics, and it cost me a lot of money.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I thought I'd give it a shot anyhow since I didn't know where else. Does anyone know a site where you can upload remixes/mashups freely without worry of copyright protection? I was using soundcloud, but only certain mashups of mine ended up there.

I made this song, Be Entertained (http://www.reverbnation.com/virtuouso) a while back.

I've been doing music since I was 11 years old, and I still can't play a keyboard. I'm an absolute pitch composer.  FL Studio was my foundation until I got to reason; and then converted back to FL Studio for it's user-friendliness.  Currently in school taking piano classes, but I'll work with anything that's catchy.  When I'm not composing vg music, I'm a part-time producer.

My sound is similiar to a lot of southern producers (Shawty Redd, Lex Luger, Zaytoven). I've been told this multiple times.

your stuff sounds pretty professional, I like it very much considering you are using fruity's presets.  good to see another music composer.  Good luck in your piano classes i was forced to learn to play from about 5 lol i hated every second of it but at least it paid off now.

Well, absolute pitch helps with that; I thought it would be hard to remember the scales, but the ear training has this so damn easy. They moved me out of piano and into chord progression.

Gin And Tonic Workout (http://tindeck.com/listen/ehmu)
This is one of my fan songs. I was thinking about making one rediculously fast, one with a little bit more attention, then one really big, really thought out song.

This is the fast piece. Made it for Roxy Lalonde.

I was skeptical at first due to the midi sounding samples but by the 0:45 sec mark, I couldn't stop listening to it. ;)
