Title: Sailor Uranus Sprites (arcade SNES style hybrid)
Post by: rgveda99 on November 20, 2013, 03:52:50 am
Need both critique and feedback. Been working on this in the last 2 months. Its not easy being a perfectionist. You just don't want to finish what you've started especially knowing you its not going to look right. The walking sprites I'm not too happy about them also. I'll most likely redo them again sometime but I'd rather just move on to the other sprites like attacks, victory and lose animations.
Biggest problem I have are the straps on the shoes. They kind of limit the optical illusion to make it more eye pleasing. The company that draw them was Angel and I just hate it when they draw. Almost all of them look flat especially when I'm converting them to arcade style. I need another color for that I guess. I might as well get rid of them. I don't really think its a big deal to keep those straps but what do you guys think?

Looks nice. That's a good basis to use for her, for a running animation.
Thanks. I had to trim her legs a little since the original SNES sprites really skinny legs despite Mai being skinny already. And also copy how Mai's legs were shaded while still going for the SM arcade style.

This was tough even with Shinausagi's help. Mixing Vice and Mai's running leg animation is a bad thing as it makes the running animation look choppy so instead of having 6 frames of animation I had to add 2 more. I'm never gonna mix and match running frames again.
I could have gone with Yung Mie's running animation with only 3 frames but I want to have my Uranus sprites to have that King of Fighters flair. I don't want any akward looking or average poses.
This is just a preview and not final yet. (http://i.picasion.com/pic76/d589eeb171eb2edf41e12f8b9a193bbd.gif) As you can see I misaligned one sprite frame.
Will work on the skirt a little more as it needs to follow the flow of the leg that's flexed.
I'm kind of thinking making the upper body move just a little but Vice or Mai don't need one. What do you guys think?

Giving her upper body some movement would be nice, as it looks too static right now, compared to her lower body. Since the upper body is mainly based on Mature's run, I'd look to her's for reference. The lower body is good to go. I also want to note that you have some pixel flicker on the blue base of her gloves between some of the frames.

Didn't know the game was somewhat popular next to TMNT. I hope the game makes it in EVO.
Dream come true. Sailormoon S makes it to Animevo.
Edit:
Did one more final edit to make her legs look more organic and her posture more natural. (https://s6.postimg.cc/7nsgpa1wx/uranus_climb_razor_sprite_evolution.png)

Strange that its been years since I've worked on this. Was always scared to try something new using other characters as base sprite and now I'll be working with more King of Fighters characters. :hyo:
