Planet of the Apes (the original movie)

Sure I guess if you're a purist of the book you'll hate the creative liberties (if you want more accuracy, believe it or not, Tim Burton's remake is the closest), you'll hate this movie, but I have intense nostalgia for it, and watching it again after almost 10 years, it's amazing how good the makeup and effects were back then.

Also Nova is hot and I would totally stowaway on Charlton Heston's ship for the chance to bang her.

Shutter Island didn't grab my attention as much as it should have. Perhaps its because I automatically expect Scorsese to direct nothing but Mafia films. For me, I'll pass. I wasn't too interested even though it was good.

And god man, the SF4 Anime was terrible. It was one of those films where I couldn't wait for it to be over. It's so fucking BORING!! Stick with the absurdity of V or the still amazing original Anime.

There should be a Saikoro plugin for Photoshop.

Iron Sky
This movie is amazing. :D So many references to various stuff (won't spoil), crazy stupid things happening every 5 minutes, great sense of auto-derision without falling into vulgarity, very fine special effects given it's sort of an independent movie.
Grade : 8/10

Still better than those Batman movies we see today imo.

Rest in peace, Tamez. Thank you for everything.

Not a bad movie, as long as you don't expect a cinematic masterpiece.

The Grey

I honestly did not have high hopes for this film. While I like Liam Neeson (I MEAN WHO DOESN'T, RIGHT?), the very thought of the plot being based around OH NO MY AIRPLANE CRASHED AND NOW WE'RE BEING CHASED BY WOLVES just sounded like a bad time. I only got it because I remember CyberFagster posting something about it.

Boy was I wrong. The acting from Liam Neeson and everyone-who-is-not-Liam Neeson was great, the atmosphere was chilling and fit in very well with the dark mood of the story, and all of the characters got atleast somewhat "fleshed out." *dodges tomatoes*

And, of course, the ending:

I definitely recommend it to anyone and everyone. Seriously, go fucking watch it. I am not kidding.

Had a double-feature movie night last night.  6 hours in the theater that was partially worth it.

Brave

Simply wonderful.  Pixar continues its unbroken streak of making phenomenal movies that aren't about cars.  The trailers don't really give away much of the plot, but they really couldn't without giving everything away.  Great story, great art direction, great music.  Don't miss it.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Sigh... I REALLY wanted to like this movie more than I did.  The book was so incredible, and it really could have lent itself so well to the big screen.  But they gutted the entire story, removed all of the best elements of the original work, and added in a bunch of dumb, less interesting crap in the interest of turning it into a summer blockbuster.  That's to say nothing of the sloppy direction and hackneyed writing.

In short, watch Brave but read Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Ah, sounds like the first time you watch a movie based on a book you read, and not the other way around.

...90% of the time that sucks. That's why I stopped doing that years ago.

I've seen plenty of movies after reading the book, and usually I'm okay with it.  I can understand that concessions need to be made when adapting things like that.  But here they completely removed almost all of the original plot and rewrote all of the characters to be completely unlike how they were originally portrayed.  It's almost as if they made the movie based solely on the title, and ignored literally everything else.  Which is a real shame, because the stuff that they cut out would have made a much better movie than the stuff they pulled out of their ass.

But even beyond that, it's not that great of a movie on its own merit.  It feels disjointed and forced, fight scenes will randomly happen out of nowhere and end just as abruptly, and it's riddled with sloppy writing and plot holes.

What?  Pride and Prejudice and Zombies was also a really good book.  Have you actually read either of them?
