What FPS ranks higher in cultural impact than Doom? Not an exceedingly lot come before chronologically either, none of which match its presence, closest being Wolfenstein and come on, if Doom's iffy there's no way Wolfenstein would be considered. As for what follows it, not too many in that echelon. Which, once again, I suggest Halo as a possibility, especially with this supposed leak presuming that Microsoft and Nintendo are indeed working together for something for Smash Bros., just not that. But beyond that, I dunno what else you had in mind? Surely not something like Call of Duty?
Besides, Doom has unique history with Nintendo, they still own an exclusive part of its series and canon for what that's worth. It's not like it's out of the blue unrelated to the company.
Had to look up what the last one was, but that makes sense to add. Thought it would have been in the base roster, to be honest, but maybe they were unsure of its lasting appeal mid-development, I dunno.
