Title: Anybody planning to go to EVO?
Post by: swipergod on December 19, 2015, 06:17:56 pm
Yeah, so it's wayyyyyy to early, but I've decided I'm gonna go. With all this online battling, I miss seeing this stuff in person. Maybe I'll bring KOFE along with me lol. The dates are July 15-17.

I would go if I had the time, but unfortunately, I can't (most of my freetime is used for art/job-hunting).

Good luck with getting KoF-E exposure at EVO, will you record livestream footage of people playing it if that happens?

I'd go there but the folks I'd tag along with don't live anywhere near my state so they can't pull up in front of my house and abduct me like they said they would.

Bummer. I got a bud 20 hours away who's gonna meet me there. But that's it.

I have no idea how to apply for space in the casuals section EVO. I doubt my game will garner any attention at all if I bring it. I just thought it'd be cool to get reactions to it if someone passes by and would be interested in playing a match or two. I may save fights and post them on my youtube channel, but I doubt it'll be live. :)

So I wrote to the EVO organizers just to make sure me being there with this game was OK. Hopefully the news won't be bad. I figure I could make it work as a "bring your own console thing" but wanted to check in first. I can't record fullscreen on my laptop, so I also checked to see if they had PCs already set up there so I can just upload a copy of the game. :)

Well the EVO crew never replied to my questions, so I'm not really sure what that means. I guess I'll figure this out in the next couple of weeks?

So before I engage Mark, I figured I'd try route 2 an write to SNK directly. It's probably even more of a longshot, but why not. I mean KOF is their property after all. I'd probably have to pull Gouki from the version I'd test there. Anyway, I sent an email to their info inbox. With any luck, they'll reply.

Cool, I'll be at EVO.

Nice! At least that's one person from the community. :) I have no idea what to expect. I'm just going to go and hang out for two days (I have work, so I can't stick around for the finals). Hopefully I can bust out KOFE, but there'll still be a lot to do if I can't.

I was trying to save up to go but bought a house instead. Darn priorities.

Do you have a place to stay?

No, haven't picked a hotel yet. Figured I'd try to get something closer to the convention centre since that's where the action takes place while I'm in town. I'm doing all my bookings and stuff next week. Where are you staying at?

JNP, I feel your pain. lol. I've successfully avoided that priority myself, freeing up a few bucks for the trip.

Ack, I've been so caught up with overtime at work and trying to finish my release of KOFE, that I missed the EVO registration... :( Bugger. Looks like won't be able to go this year then I guess. Been doing a lot of these absent minded flubs these days. lol.

You can still get a spectator pass, I think.
Title: Re: Anybody planning to go to EVO?
Post by: swipergod on July 03, 2016, 03:15:19 pm
I sent the organizers a message just making sure the spectator's pass would allow me to play in the BYOC section. If I can't play with people in non-tournaments, I wouldn't want to spend the money to go. We'll see what they say. Definitely a goof up on my part.

Well, according to Wizard, you can buy spect pass for $30/day.
Title: Re: Anybody planning to go to EVO?
Post by: swipergod on July 04, 2016, 12:42:41 am
I'm cool with that as long as I'm able to play in the BYOC section. I have to at least try to show KOFE. And I'd like to play friendlies with folks. I don't wanna be told I'm only allowed to sit and watch the tournament all day. If I can get confirmation on what the spectator's pass lets me do, then I'm in.

i looked it up for you brotha, and it seems there is a badge you have to buy in order to get a spot in the BYOC area.
Quote
Is the BYOC section free?
No. Every part of Evo is a badged event, once you have a badge, you will have access to all of our fun things to do including the BYOC. You’re more than welcome to bring your own system. The TV’s are provided but keep in mind they are in limited quantities. Try not to have a setup where you’re alone playing the CPU when there’s 20 people on a single setup waiting in line. From time to time people bring their cabs from home or supergun set ups as well.
from the faqs page for evo 16: http://evo.shoryuken.com/f-a-q/

if you're bringing a laptop then it's probably even easier for you to get a spot, because you don't need a screen.

Well, I'll be staying at the Luxor, to answer your question, Swipergod.

Cool, that's where I'm hoping to stay as well. It sounds like I can still do all the fun stuff at EVO with the $30 pass, so I'll make my booking.

Ok, well it's all booked. Staying at the Luxor. I wouldn't mind trying SF V since I haven't played it at all. Anyone know if KOF XIV will be demoed there?

Is anyone looking for a place? PM me.

Ack, sorry man. I'm only staying 2 nights anyway (could only get one day off work). Look forward to seeing you there.

Xhominid, are you doing competitive play or just checking things out?

I have no idea what to expect, but I'll plug mugen when and if I can.

Sadly I live in a cave. lol. I have a facebook that I hardly use now and a twitter account that I haven't touched in years. I feel like I should do something about that. Maybe I'll start using twitter for my game a bit more or something...
