My Ash Ketchum sprites (Read 25474 times)

Quite recently I started work on sprites of Ash Ketchum (Satoshi) from Pokemon Advanced Generation. These may become a Mugen character if I manage to create enough sprites. The sprites I have made all have purposes in the event of becoming a WIP.

Please note I am new to large sprites and I suck at shading so they won't all be perfect. There are a few I plan on editing as I improve. Anyway here are the sprites.


This is the Ash image that I made first. Its base was actually from a Diamond and Pearl anime screenshot where I had to alter his outfit quite abit.


This one is for victories, the Pokeball is actually from Fire Red/Leaf Green but the rest of the sprite is mine.


And heres the first punch. This one require alot of editing as its base was a screenshot from the first movie plus I needed a new stance for his legs. It still needs work in my opinion but I think I will wait until I have made more sprites first.


Another punch, this is probably one of my best sprites so far.


This is the newest punch sprite. Similar to the previous but jumping.


This is one of my favorates. It'll probably be for blocking.


If this ever did become a Mugen character this would be an alternate color set.

nice, the improvement to come wouldn't be that much of a deal (it wouldn't be that hard to improve it) since it has a good basis

Did you read the topic at all. I stated quite clearly that
1) I suck at shading
and
2) This is my first time making large sprites

1) I suck at shading

I did read your post..and you can always just fix the errors..how about reading a shading tut?

Maybe, however I've seen some mugen character that aren't sideways. When he walks I will definatly have him facing sideways.

I haven't made nearly enough sprites yet. He only has one walking stance which is this one

And no sprites for jumping or taking damage. At the moment I'm only making the sprites, when I've made enough to be a character I'll start the WIP.

Plus if I made his nose any darker it doesn't look right.

Not that big not 100% visible who wants a char with a big bell pepper ass nose?

Half the time in anime's they dont HONESTLY have a nose they have a shaded area that gives it the illusion of a nose.

Not gonna do it all for him i did a few tweaks to it to give him an example of how to do it

(not exactly less then 20 secs just an expression)

I am trying, I have stated that I'm new to this. I have saved both images to look at when I feel ready to try shading but right now thats not the issue. I think I should chance the angle of that sprites head though.

Remember I'm only just starting, we can't all have multiple WIPs you know.

It is one of the issue's here.


Let me explain it like this its just a contrast like thing

Another problem is that due to both being left handed and doing these sprites in MSPaint it can be a struggle to get the shading just right. I did try my first attempt though since I do plan on improving my shading.

get gfx gale, you can use hue/luminance stuff in there, to create your own shades.

GFX Gale is horrible i downloaded it for laughs it was one of the shittiest Graphics program ive ever seen in my life i could do better with MS paint.

I agree with getting the sprite done, THEN going back to shading. Like you said, you're new to this. Why spend 30-45 minutes trying to shade one sprite just right, when you can get X many sprites done in the same time?

Here are some new sprites, first I improved Ash's kick sprite.


Next up is what will be Ash getting shocked, fans will recodnise this expression.


Here is Ash chasing after Aipom after it took his hat, I haven't finished Aipom's sprite yet though.

I'd still need to go back and edit after I've improved at making sprites, I'd rather not have to change the shading to match other sprites when I could get it just right for all of them.

Wouldn't it be better for him to go back, as opposed to doing it straight-forward? If he goes back and does the shading, he can see how it changes during the animation. It makes the whole process of learning that much easier, because there's less guesswork. In my opinion, this way seems a lot more newb-friendly.

Its been a while but heres a jumping sprite.


I've cleaned a few pixels from the main sprite too.


And from that we have Evil Ash, a potential future project.


Here is a sprite of Shinji (Or Paul in the dub but that name doesn't suit him).

There will be an attack where Ash sends out Pikachu, it'll most likely use Iron Tail. For this attack and another this sprite will be used.


I've also changed Ash's head to make the sprite look better, Ash is looking towards his apponent now too.


Ash well as Pikachu I plan on making a special where Ash summons his Pokemon, the attack will be called Pokemon Charge. Here are two sprites I made for this move.

I can certainly understand the problems with using MS Paint.
(MS Paint's all I've got  :'()
But even so, the quality is impressive.

PS:
You've probably already thought of this, but a simple projectile could simply be Ash throwing a pokeball.

Good but a 2 layer shading is needed on all those sprites... If  you are going for a cartoon style.

Nice i like em i would love to see it in fully animation :3

Well as I've said I'm not ready for shading yet. Anyway I'm currently working on sprites for Ash throwing a Pokeball as well as various Pokemon such as Charizard.

Until they are ready here is another alternate color sceme based on Ash's original outfit

Ok people enough, if I get better at shading I'll use shading and if I don't I won't. Simple as that. Most likely I'll release this without the shading and in the future I'll go back and add it. I'd rather have no shading than bad shading.

I am working on them. I have two planned hypers and one planned special using Pokemon. I'll have some soon, until then heres a punch sprite.

I also made the fist a little bigger, Darkened the pants, and the shoe color (As not to blend in with the pants) and added a pokeball.

Well I do plan of using some Pokemon for special and hyper moves. I plan of using this sprite when Ash commands them

I've also made a few Pokemon sprites. These two aren't quite finished yet, I still have work to do on Bulbasaur's bulb and Charizards tail.

Not a bad sprite of ash, but i really dont see him being a figther. maybe him summoning his damn pets to fight for him...but hey, its your work :P can use some fine pixeling to sharpen the look. try drawing the images on paper first to get some ref on his stance and try to make a light source for him to shade him up.
Well Ash has a few scenes that would transfer well for fighting. The Aura in the 8th movie will definatly be one of Ash's specials, most likely as a projectile blast.

And finding a light source isn't the issue, I'm not ready for shading just yet. I've already said I might add shading once I've practiced. If I don't my next project will have shading.
