Title: How Long Have You Mugened?
Post by: TRUEMicah on March 06, 2012, 04:14:42 am: Technically, I started Mugen in about 03'. I lurked around until about late 07' then i finally started learning to code and sprite "projects" of my own (All of which that have never been fully completed :/). What about you all, how long have you all been Mugening?

Re-building means: filtering out characters that're rarely used, downloading updates, and deactivating characters that're incomplete and cheap. Previously I gave accurate stage for a character, now switching to give original stages to all characters.

I wish I'd have known how to fix cheap characters to make them more playable. For some cheap characters's got some cool sprites and sounds (hint: YUUKI_in_SLASH's hitosyura). I tried to read Mugen official documents but didn't quite understand many things. I might start by looking at some good solid character examples.

By the way, in the Mugen context, what're the real differences between a new and old Mugen users?

Post by: I'm Agent Norman Jayden, FBI. on March 31, 2012, 08:14:16 pm: I think I first started in like 2007, man I had a roster filled with shit characters, overpowered garbage (how many SSJ5 characters did I have?) then I lost my computer, and then join mugen dream and downloaded alllll the cheap UB22 characters I could find, then another I put alllllllllll the shitty orochi edits I could find, until THAT computer crashed. I quit for like two years then last april I started again, with a small The_None roster and a POTS roster.

Funny is that it all started with me looking up the most random youtube videos I could find until I eneded up on a mugen video with motaro fighting apocalypse. I shit bricks and downloaded it. I actually paid one dollar to play it cause I didn't realize it was free. -_-

Anyone remember that board that Flowagirl, splode, Eli and a few other creators were apart of? It was only for "elite" creators which seems kinda funny now. I remember it closed and all the creators that use to hang there went to RandomSelect. Wish I could remember the name...

Think I started early 2002- back then Nunor use to have an automated email where you could request a character from the database and he'd reply with the attachment. Mahn that was good service :sugoi:

Damn. Reading of all of this old school tech talk is making me feel dated. I remember when 4 MB's of RAM was considered "high tech." Shit man, running NES ROM's at full speed was considered astonishing for me. I considered Emulation as a way to benchmark my systems. I sadly do the same thing with Mugen right now. The laptop that I'm typing all of this on?? Yeah, it was "bought" for college. It's secretly my Mugen device.

Why didn't I find out about Mugen sooner!? Curses....

Hey, remember Alexlexus created Dante before Capcom. Time is weird in the world of MUGEN.

it was a typo in a rush when I typed it. I began work on date after the release of DMC1 on the ps2. this has haunted me for years and it will never leave me. it was a typo and I am being god honest. I tried to tell people this in my videos and post but they wont let me off the hook for a typo mistake.

It was called Anime Battle or something, I don't know. It had anime in the title, and thus had various anime characters such as: Goku, Sailor Mercury, Shadow Dio, Wing Gundam, Roll (uh...) a Tails made from Sonic 3 sprites that could do a Hadoken (...) Jedah (how are any of these anime), and more, probably. I only realized it was the same engine when I heard the "super stock filled" sound. That shit was burned into my memory. And also the lifebars were exactly the same but it was the sound that did it !I might even still have a copy of it, somewhere, on an old hard drive.

But that doesn't really count and I don't remember how I wound up finding MUGEN again but it says I registered here in 2007 so that's like 6 years so yeah 6 years I guess. Once I hit seven years I have to go back to my home planet.

Much smaller MFG community, everyone used DOS Mugen, less people strived for balance and more strived for "How many characters can I fit in one screenpack?"

Also, everyone was up the ass with rules regarding using others' work, regardless if you credited them.

Then, some years later, I saw more or less the same videos and became interested in that "mugen" stuff (I changed my mind; as they say, "they always come back :twisted:"); I found some tutorials for installing the characters, stages, went to warehouses to download more characters, downloaded the EVE screenpack for WinMugen (I wasn't registered in any forum). I found Mugen Lair, then Guild and Generations. I lurked for a lot of time, learned about mugen codes and sprites, then registered in the last forum I mentioned. And that's how it started (online) for me.

If you count that, I'm "mugening" for 5-6 years too. Otherwise 3 years.

Not long after I started going to MUGEN GUILD to get characters and talk about my 100% drawn from scratch full game I was going to make based on my comic characters. And I got mad about the whole permissions thing :P

This was before Guild had a forum. It had more like a shout box. Downloaded a bunch of characters my 1st year. Mostly watched instead of played. Then focused on ways to get sprites to make a Darkstalkers game. Fought in the permissions wars, released sprite packs, got burned out, came back as a lurker.

After watching Ryu's infinite air punch thing, I saw this EvE Battle Mugen match with Death Ogre and some other shitty Shotoclone. I assumed it was just another flash game, so I instantly hated it, but then I saw that it was saved on a desktop as a .exe file, the rest is history.

Oh yeah, I started making stages like a year ago, I think.

Started in January 2010, didn't join the Guild until May 2011, and only started posting regularly on August 2013. I've would've have a bunch of character releases by now had it not been for trying to make full games that failed and whatnot.

I pretty much downloaded things for it regardless of quality. After I got more into fighting games though, I felt embarrassed by my choices and deleted my Mugen.

I joined MFG in 2011 but I still ended up lurking around until 2012, when I decided to get serious with the engine and start practicing/experimenting with code, being more thoughtful about what content I downloaded, etc.

in 2004, my girlfriend leaved me... I get a Pc to download porn :-[ and playing online (World of wracraft ... MMO is great to make you stop thinking about your life). Some time later I discovered Loganir's work and I leeched all chars in MVC style I could find. I discovered Warusaki's work too and I did some CVS game with different screenpack.
I don't know when I did my first edit on Archer and released it here... I started a project on Ghodt Rider but had some problems with my eyes and stopped spriting (I were stupid to sprite him all in black on a pink background :smartass2:, should have done it with colors that don't hurt to watch).
I did a Tigermask character with and edit of ^o^'s slam master character...
And then started to play with Spec OP, and wanted to do a Fullgame on Slam Master based on Red Cyclone by O'ilisionnista.

So 12 wasted years. But had great time at reading drama on the forum ... need more drama :woeh:

Mugen 1.0 definitely rekindled my interest when it was released a couple years ago. My current Mugen Fighters Guild account is 3 years old, I had an account before that, but I couldn't remember it's password after a couple years of not using it. I think that account may have gone as far back as about 2005, if this site existed back then, that is.

How was/is your deployment?

last time in iraq it wasnt so bad but here in afghanistan omfg it sucks ass. feels like im in jail. shitty internet. limited mail serivce. and not alot of time to get back into mugen. but i did start a gouken beruild to be like pots characters. i am testing a sprite swap with akuma by him just to see what it would look like.

so far i have made the tag team code work in mugen1.1 with zoom i have some videos up.

Took a break for a couple years with my kids to take care of and real life and then jumped back in again in 2007 and again just chilled till 2010 to then actually start learning to make things for the past 3 years now. MFG is the first actual site i ever registered but i just looked around when it first got opened before i decided to join much later . lol :2thumbsup:

about to going on 40 so i probably retire from Mugen in 10 years cause i will be 50 then. lol
