What? Can't they (some of the voice actors) just say screw the strike and all of that? Or is there something legal-wise that I am missing with this union stuffs?
You have no idea how strikes work, do you?

I like to think of the lines being reused as partly because of the strike and partly because it's how Netherealm works. They've been re-using assets in their games for years, all the way back to the first Mortal Kombat.

Seeing them reuse lines doesn't bother me.

I do know, but I still cannot wrap my head around the fact that the unions have a COMPLETE stranglehold over ALL the affected VA's about the kind of work they can or cannot do. Refusal of all work whatsoever without exceptions during the strike? Where will the VA's go to get food without income?

Some VAs do work during strikes. They try to fly it under the radar by picking smaller gigs and/or using pseudonyms or going uncredited. MK is too high profile for that.

Voice acting is a strenuous activity that can take a toll on your health. Joining a union when it comes to work like that is just common sense, especially when the union is your voice lobbying for better conditions, fairer pay and the like. The union doesn't have a stranglehold on the VAs; the union IS the VAs.

As for the work being undertaken during the strike: the strike is an effort to have a new set of expectations for VO work become standard. This new standard includes royalties on re-releases of work, rewards bonuses for ultra-successful titles, hazard pay for work that will damage their throat and ability to work in the future (eg. screaming, death cries, etc.) and other certain conditions that let them properly prepare for a recording session.

Union voice actors are allowed to accept work from studios while the strike is going if they accept these new terms. Some bigger studios have, like Netherrealm/Warner Bros. for Injustice 2; that's the only reason you're hearing Conroy, Eisenberg, Newbern, Strong, and the other usual DC voice actors here. Others haven't, like Dontnod for the new Life Is Strange prequel, which won't have Ashly Burch come back as Chloe; Burch is staying on as a character consultant, but only as a coach for the new non-union voice actor.

Well, if there was any doubt about the whether the shadow teasers on the DLC trailer were real or not, I gues there isn't anymore. Still, they went so far away, we didn't even get Starfire yet.
