The long-rumored Pokemon game “Pokken Tournament” has finally been made official. Famitsu properly unveiled the title during a live stream event held just a short while ago. Bandai Namco is behind Pokken Fighters, which shouldn’t be too surprising given the nature of the game. Well-known Tekken producer Katsuhiro Harada is involved with the project.

Pokken Tournament will be coming to arcades in 2015.

Title: Re: Pokken Tournament [Arcade]
Post by: D, The Red Cloak on August 26, 2014, 07:39:43 pm
This is a stretch, since this looks like it will be just a straight fighting game, but maybe they could have the pokemon in their stage one forms, and the more victories that pokemon has, it gains experience and enough will add a new fighter to the roster.

So with Lucario we could start with Riolu then after a few victories it could evolve into Lucario. But in the select screen you basically use Lucario by selecting Riolu and press another button to select Lucario.

And expanding onto that, a stage one pokemon can evolve depending on your playstyle.

Example, Tyrouge can evolve into Hitmonchan if you play defensively, evolve into Hitmonlee if you play more aggressively, or evolve into Hitmontop if you play a combination of both.

They probably are not going to do that, but if this game becomes a hit, they could add this to the sequel.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT :o This is... wow, like on my dreams come true :D SUPER HYPED!!

Actually the Human forme egg group has plenty of pokemon too choose from that arent fighting types (though most of them are) and there are plenty of pokes with anthropoformic characteristics. OH BOY, this is gonna be fun!!

If this ever comes to something like Wii U, getting a Wii U inmediately.

it might end up being like a year later lol since that was the case for TTT2 and Gundam Extreme VS going from arcade -> console

doubly worse if it's on the same machines as T6 or TTT2 and therefore not PC-based (but it would be kinda funny cause those cabinets are basically a giant PS3)

From Harada's twitter, the game's going to be unique, won't borrow any mechanics from Tekken, and no Tekken guests will appear.  Won't be a traditional 3d fighter but rather, think Gundam, Anarchy Reigns, UNS, etc. type of game.

A Excellent looking fighting Game. A Pokemon fighter was always something that most of us wanted to see.

I also want to see Hawlucha in thisone as he seems to be a interesting, heroistic looking character. I can imagine him to have a style like Tatsunoko's Gatchaman (Ken The Eagle). Also hope to see characters like Primeape and Scyther in this Game.

Ok Male counterparts are covered up but who will be female fighter's counterpart.

If they don't limit themselves to strictly fighting types, there's enough feminine-looking pokemon they could use.  Gardevoir, Lopunny, maybe Gothitelle or Jynx if they want to go a little weird with it.

I just heard about this today.

I wish that they would this on a WiiU format someday, because it is too good to waste on an arcade-only release!

But then again, maybe they are using this as a test bed for how will the concept last among their consumer base.

Not sure if this was posted and/or everyone already knows about it, but...
In case anyone was worried about an international release (http://twitter.com/Harada_TEKKEN/status/504667135088394241).

Also, seeing as the devs want fans to decide what Pokémon to put in the roster, it's quite obvious that everyone's going to pick... Coil (Magnemite)?

Everyone's going on about a Wii U version which would be cool but I do wonder if they'll port it to the 3DS as well.
There has been fighting games on the 3DS (one of them was a Tekkan game) so it could work.

It is really wheird to see some guys basing Pokemon with Tekken Characters in styles. This is just a Game made by The Creators of Tekken. It's not like they are using Tekken as a template for this and swapping models with new ones. I just hope this get's a great story mode with lot's ot cutscenes and more for The Game.

Imagine a sea Stage or a seaside where you see fisherman's fishing with a OldRod, GoodRod and SuperRod. Seaking and many more fish based Pokemon could be jumping in and out the water while Lapras swims all around. That could be a Stage for Poliwrath, Greninja or any other Water Pokemon. I think stages should be discussed too as there are many places, areas in The Pokemon Series and Games we know and wich are important there.

Here's an idea for a possible character, one of the prototype Pokemon like Latiken:

An evolved form of Kururu
(http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/f/f5/Alpha_kurusu.png)

or ProtoGenger/ProtoNidorino
(http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/1/1e/Capsule_Monsters_Cover.jpg)

Would put an interesting twist to the roster with any one of those. However if we were sticking to actual pokemon, I go with Beedrill.

Sorry for reviving this topic without actual news but, there are some rumors about Characters going on at several Websites.

Many are telling and talking about those Characters:

Do you guys have any predictions about Characters? I am alright with any playable Pokemon but, it would be Excellent to have some Legendary Pokemon as bosses.

But the rumors I've been getting stated that the roster was gonna be Machamp, Lucario, Blaziken, Pikachu, Pichu, Raichu, Surfing Pikachu, Flying Pikachu, Plusle, Minun, Pachirisu, Emolga, and Dedenne.

You're gonna see about as much speculation and "leaks" as you will with Smash Bros line ups.

I just did read comments about those Pokemon lists at various places while I was reading some news about other Pokemon Games. It is pretty much said that those listed Pokemon's are rumored and requested by fans. I will look back for links once I get to that.

Suicune, Gardevoir, and Pikachu confirmed in the roster!!  There's also a render of what appears to be Mega Mewtwo Y it's Mega Lucario....

http://www.siliconera.com/2015/01/23/suicune-gardevoir-pikachu-announced-pokken-tournament/

Arcade doesn't use a fightstick but a standard D-Pad + 4 buttons and shoulder.

Assists confirmed to be part of the game and it includes Emolga, Snivy, Fennelkin, and Lapras.  Can be called with the L button.  At a certain point, Mega Evolution can be done in game, like an Install Super.

Entire background menu has a more "Battle Revolution" vibe.

I think it'll be far worse. Mishimas are usually A to S tier already and Pikachu looks short as hell. GURRRGH

(We'll see though)

Also I sure hope there's high and low mixups (I imagine there will be) because otherwise Machamp looks pretty meh right now even though I want to play him anyways (it's just, without offensive options he just looks slow in a game full of better characters, literally everyone else has a projectile I think), even with command grabs.

This. Definitely this.

Also, hoping that maybe Garchomp, Hariyama, Sceptile, and Swampert somehow make the cut. Wasn't expecting Suicune at all, I was thinking they'd go along the lines of Mewtwo, Deoxys, or Palkia for a legendary.

uhhhhh what are you talking about, the show's mascot and the game's (unofficial) mascot is pikachu. hes well known and represented, particularly in smash. when a large casual audience thinks of pokemon they think of pikachu. people dont need to acknowledge that for it to be true.

I'm not trying hard to ignore Pikachu, it's truly how I see it like. I see Pikachu as an icon, sure, but not necessarily as a main thing in the main generation games (although ORAS did give him some special attention). I'll be blunt, I never liked Pikachu to begin with.

Pikachu is literally the face of the entire Pokemon series. He has multiple games solely centered on him for fuck's sake.

You should have said that you hated it in the first place instead of coming up with random reasons like "oh right there was that show".
Title: Re: Pokken Tournament [Arcade]
Post by: MotorRoach on January 24, 2015, 07:43:41 pm
That's why I said "in the main games" in my post, not referring to the spinoffs or the such. I'm not trying to come up with random reasons, and I already know he's the face of the Pokemon series, not to mention I'm certainly not saying this game would be better off without him. I like how he is in here, I like how they made him different from the usual cutesy Pikachu, and it helps making his addition to this game more distinct and interesting. I only expressed that I feel not a whole lot of people think as much of Pikachu these days, but I might be wrong as I haven't checked that many places where Pokemon is talked about.

That's all.

Gardevoir should have used Hyper Voice instead of Shadow Ball as the Mega Evolution form move. Pixilate plus bypassing Substitutes... better attack than a Shadow Ball.

So Gardevoir can't learn Tickle in the source?  The heck?  I didn't notice this.

Gardevoir should have used Hyper Voice instead of Shadow Ball as the Mega Evolution form move. Pixilate plus bypassing Substitutes... better attack than a Shadow Ball.
Upon closer inspection, it would appear it's using something like Moonblast due to more rainbow colors appearing now that I see good quality of that move.

Gardevoir isn't Gallade :}

It does appear to be Moonblast, but it's a very fancy variant of the attack, seemingly teleporting the opponent into space via a black hole of sorts and then pelting them with beams of light.

Frogadier uses Water Pulse which rapidly shoots out discs while Eevee uses Helping Hand which boosts your attack power and restores health.
Serebii's character page now has special attacks listed.

I am alright with it if they keep him accurate and balanced. This makes Me wonder if this is just a fighting game or a Game with some of the Pokemon rules. I hope a stronger type Pokemon doesn't overpower the weaker type. Water type vs grass type for example. Maybe it could work as modes for easy, medium and hard mode.

Pokken Tournament – aimed at both kids and adults, game could head west, more (http://nintendoeverything.com/pokken-tournament-aimed-at-both-kids-and-adults-game-could-head-west-more/)
Quote
On the game’s audience…

“Considering that many of the people in the generation who experienced Red and Green are now nearing their thirties, and those who were in elementary school then are now in university, we aimed to make a game for those who grew up playing Pokémon—rather than just target children. The bottom line is, we want to show adults that this is the new Pokémon, and get them to play.” – Ishihara

On how it’s tough to make a game where you manipulate Pokemon directly…

“Players want to move around with a great deal of freedom and do a wide range of things, but the operability needs to be smooth as well. That’s probably the most important point. To be frank, with both Tekken and Soulcalibur, I’ve worked for the past 20 years on the pursuit of how to best organize copious amounts of animation into a product that can be animated smoothly and comfortably by players. That work has led to where I stand now, meaning I’ve given everything I’ve got to pull this off.”

On how it’s tough to compete in the arcade space…

“Players can quit a game after just one try if they find it boring. Seeing people quit after spending a hundred yen or even watching them play from behind and hearing their reactions firsthand can be very tough. There’ve been countless games that have been unable to re-coup their production costs after customers say things like ‘this is not fun’ or ‘this isn’t good at all!’ I mean, it’s all for nothing if nobody wants to play, even after spending a stupendous amount of money to develop the software, to cover the cost of the expense of the chassis, and the costly system that serves as the base. It can really be an unforgiving market.” – Harada
On the controller…

“Envisioning that our customers were Pokémon fans and maybe new to arcade games, we decided to forego the usual buttons-and-joystick approach common to arcade games, and opted for a controller people would be familiar with from home gaming, with the D-Pad, four buttons, and the L and R buttons. When they visit an arcade and see this controller, even those who play at home—which is now the trend—might just think ‘I can play this one’.” – Harada

On the possibility of an overseas release…

“I think the possibility definitely exists. Basically, as an arcade game we would like to push the boundaries of combining familiar Pokémon characters with new and unexpected ones in battle. We want to show people different kinds of Pokémon characters that they can actually use.” – Ishihara

http://nintendoeverything.com/pokken-tournament-trademark-registered-in-europe-mentions-nfc-functionality/
Quote
trademark for Pokken Tournament was registered in Europe 2 days ago. It’s not clear from the trademark itself whether this for the arcade version or a possible Wii U port, but the former seems more likely. The trademark holder is the Pokemon Company, not Nintendo, who usually register the trademarks for the Pokemon games.

Also, the trademark mentions the following:

Quote
Near field communication (NFC) technology-enabled devices, namely, key chain tags, key chains, key fobs, key tags, key rings and key holders, and figurines, to facilitate the transmission and recording and exchange of video game content.

You might be inclined to think that this refers to amiibo, but in Japan, Pokken arcade machines also have NFC functionality with something called BANA Passport, a card where users can store saved game data and transfer them from one arcade machine to another.

Either way, we’ll have to wait until an official announcement from Nintendo until we know for sure. We will keep you posted.

Pikachu's alternates in SSB4 all made into seperate characters, each filling up a slot in the roster.

It's genius! Namco, thank me for practically giving you money.

As much as I hate Hawlucha, I'd have taken him over Lucha Libre Pikachu any fucking day of the week.

Honestly the only reason I'm pissed of is because Hawlucha is one of my favourite Pokemon. Being a lucha fighter is his only gimmick and it was taken by a character that was already in the game? Really now?

Made even worse in that it's not as if there 20-25 Pokemon already present. Not exactly the best time to make a redux of an already existing character. And being the face of the franchise isn't a good enough reason imo, if anything that's even more reason to be upset.

They'll probably give Pikachu a mega before they even remember that Raichu exists.

Man, I was really hoping they would release Hawlucha, but instead they did fucking Lucha Pickachu. Well, I wonder if any of the other characters from Type Wild are gonna make it in. I'd say that Lopunny, Breloom, and maybe Snorlax would be the most likely. I'd also love for Mismagius to make it in since that's my favorite Pokemon, but I don't see that happening.

So that means Giratina must be a pickable character. And Lucha Giratina.

Seeing as how the current character select screen looks rather lop-sided, I guess we can assume there's going to be at least four additional characters.

I for one welcome the addition of EX JayChu in the roster.

Seeing as how the current character select screen looks rather lop-sided, I guess we can assume there's going to be at least four additional characters.
Jigglypuff, Greninja, Mewtwo, filler.  An Amiibro can dream.

I showed the trailer to Steve "Flash" Juon, a journalist for sports entertainment site Angry Marks. I asked if whether Masked Pikachu used some WWE moves...

Steve Juon said:
All the moves are shown rapid fire one after the other, so I wouldn't say it with 100% certainty, but one looked like a modified Stunner and I can almost certainly say Pikachu hit a Kurt Angle or Brock Lesnar style suplex. Crazy.

YouTube folk have christened Masked Pikachu as the Rainbow Mika of Pokken. Capcom has a rival now.

Not having a final boss is kinda dumb, especially for an arcade game as that's generally the part where the game blatantly tries to steal your money. This game was in dire need of something like that as apparently it's extremely easy to finish the game with a single credit adding to its lack of profitability.

One can hope that the arcade version is merely a proof of concept and the home versions will be more polished and given content acceptable for a 2015 fighting game.

AI probably sucks too. TK7's AI is just laughable, I've seen 10 yr olds beat Kazumi lol. I used credits as combo practice, it's that bad now.

Bamco was probably banking on it become a multiplayer hit and it didn't happen. Doesn't help that the demographic isn't quite the same. I mean, ArcSys and other anime fighters start out with character counts close to it and don't get the ax this quickly.

Oh and obviously for their sake, this better have more content by the time the console launch rolls around.

If it doesn't catch on in the western arcades, it's probably because people'd feel embarrassed playing Pokémon in public where the common census is 'Pokémon is for little kids, lol, what a dweeb.'. Well, that's what it seems like in the UK at least :s

Dark Mewtwo, in a weird way, reminds me of William Birkin from Resident Evil 2, in his final full-figured form before he went blob in the train tunnels. The spike protruding on his shoulder during the intro did me in.

In all honesty, as much as I like Mewtwo, I think Pokken Tournament should have introduced a new Pokemon. A dream of mine has always been a man-made robot Pokemon. Not like those Pokemon who have technical implants like Genesect. I'm talking more in the lines of a true machine who lives off a battery and a processor, and has an on-off switch like the robot masters in Megaman (a bad example would be the Endoskeletons from the Terminator series). Not to mention it would be a one-of-a-kind Team Rocket project.

The Pokken Tournament Japanese website has PDF files of all the moves. When you switch to Duel Phase (traditional one-on-one fighting), you get a moves list akin to Tekken. Click on the link below to view all the Pokemon's special moves.

http://pokkentournament.jp/pokemon/

On each profile, there are two PDF links. The left PDF is a generic guide. The right PDF lists all the available moves.

EDIT: After much research, replaced the Reddit link with the official.

Quote
A few months ago, Bandai Namco held a Twitter campaign so that fans could vote on the next support Pokemon they’d like to see in Pokken Tournament. And in just a matter of days, we’ll finally know who was selected… and more!

The game’s Twitter account teases that two announcements will be made in December 10. In addition to sharing the fan-selected support Pokemon, a brand new fighter will be revealed as well. Who do you guys think will make it in?

The hint is that the Pokémon's Japanese name contains 'ン', which is the letter 'n'.

Hopefully that could mean Pangoro (ゴロンダ) or Chesnaught (ブリガロン).
Or Groudon (グラードン), lol.

Swampert would be the fucking icing on the cake.

My suspicion was correct about them choosing Pokemon who have a Mega form so they can use Mega Evolution as a Burst, but it's good to see regular Mewtwo and Braixen as fighters too. ^_^

Win-win for those who wanted a Pokemon with a Mega form (Finally we have a Dragon on the fighter side) and those who wanted a Pokemon without a Mega form as a fighter.

Like it matters what stage the pokemon is.

So is that how many full stop or how many has already been announced?

Select screen can fit 4 more characters so looks like at least 20 characters.

Quote
Wii U owners in North America can now view Pokken Tournament’s eShop page. Some interesting details are included in the listing.

First, in terms of controllers, Nintendo says that the following options are supported:

– Wii U Pro Controller
– Wii Remote + Classic Controller Pro
– Wii Remote
– Wii Remote + Nunchuck
– Wii U GamePad

Regarding online play, players can expect the following:

– Online multiplayer
– Leaderboards

Of course, local multiplayer is included as well.

I’m usually hesitant to post about file sizes from the eShop given previous inaccuracies, but the listing says Pokken Tournament requires 4234.4MB for the download. If nothing else, it’ll take up a few gigabytes.

Lot of things to keep in mind, but nothing playing often won't get you used to.

Got it.  Really fun game.  I keep unlocking Santa hats.  I'm interpreting this as the glorious return of Delibird to the spotlight as Pokken's first DLC character.  And by return I mean really the first time unless you count Pokémon Stadium 2.

Only characters I've played so far is Gardevoir and Shadow Mewtwo.  I'm enjoying her gameplay, haven't done as much with Shadow Mewtwo because I'm running the league with Gardevoir currently but seems fun as well.

who doesn't want to be "Gardevoir's Good Friend"?

Not sure about the optimal Blaziken combos yet, the combo dojo drops you into trying to do a really tight link from heavy sweep -> launcher -> powered-up sky uppercut. It depends on which move you're in the best position to start a combo with, but Y -> Y -> Y -> Back Special does a tiny bit more damage and is trivial to execute.

Beat the green cup.  Got beaten up by Shadow Mewtwo badly.  Feel like I missed out on something important, because the story just kept on moving on.  Hope you can replay through it if there was something to unlock by winning.

After the first one, I'm not sure it's still considered luck.  But that's what I figured, just wondering why Santa hats of all things.  And I'll have to wait until the next time I find Shadow Mewtwo to confirm one way or another, because I was doing damage and getting somewhere with him.  He just completely outclassed and destroyed me.

And good to know I'm not alone on wondering what the hell happened to the Green Cup leader's voice.

Still getting Santa hats.  This is a sign.  A sign that I must fulfill the Santa Clause and prepare for next December.  That must be the true reason for this tournament, this unusual tournament that only allows 13 very specific Pokémon, plus one of them wearing an outfit.  To find the one true Santa.

Beyond those hats, also got some fluffy mufflers.  Now just need a matching pair of a white muffler, silver hair and the Santa suit I am totally expecting to show up one day at this rate.

Anyways, beyond my unlucky streak of unlocks, just noticed the crowds are actually 2D in the background (https://scontent-lga3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpa1/v/t34.0-12/12596334_10201539125517998_1061388468_n.jpg?oh=a05277bc90c25383793d4106c068a1a2&oe=56F1A55C).  Now I can't not see them just being stretched horizontally and vertically in the background to cheer.

If it makes you feel better, at least there's just 10-12 variations of the santa hat.

But since you've been chosen to fulfill some christmas destiny, then I feel it is important for you to know that your advisor can have a santa outfit too once you beat all of the leagues.

Of course there is.  Why wouldn't there be?

I'm hoping everyone else is getting more interesting unlocks than Santa with green hair or Santa with red hair at least.  Something to look forward to when I get out of this chain.

Just progress through SP league for now. You get new stuff you can buy when you clear a league.

Also, it seems that the santa hats are random drop exclusive anyway. I've cleared all the leagues and I can't buy any missing variations of it.

Counter to absorb the hit, hit him in the face with it if he's on top of you, otherwise cancel and move out of the way, mess up his pattern and retaliate.  Or just wait until the patch, yeah.  Raise the HP lost and make it possible to knock yourself out with that shadow eye move, raise the price to spam something so easy.

Oh and I'm oh-so happy to report that the Santa streak continues.  I have displeased the RNG gods apparently.

By the way, I don't see it as an option, so I'm guessing it's not unless it's buried somewhere beyond Pokémon settings, or I'm blind missing it when the match starts, but is it possible to use those alt. colors your opponent uses if you are in a mirror match?  Like the opponent gets a red Gardevoir if you're using yours?  I like the alt. colors they gave for some of them.

Alt colors are mirror match only unfortunately. Here's hoping they let us choose at will in the future.
While somewhat pointless, I wouldn't mind being able to customize Player 2 in local battles or at least give it a random customization and name.

Speaking of customization, I'm surprised they didn't throw in a few Tekken themed items in there.

I've been maining Gardevoir.  Lotta fun to use.  Want to try to get better with Charizard, Suicune, Weavile or Mewtwo more, but haven't done too well on that front.

I'm hoping they're finding enough support for this game to consider additional characters, because it really is quite fun, but I'd enjoy trying out some newcomers to play as and fight against.  Not like Pokémon doesn't have enough monsters to give a shot.

DLC incoming
https://www.reddit.com/r/PokkenGame/comments/4o5mnh/some_info_about_file_differences_in_the_new_13/

Quote
For those just joining us, u/ZekiraDrake pointed out that the numbers correspond to pokedex numbers meaning the three new pokemon referenced in these new files are Darkrai (491), Scizor (212), and Empoleon (395). I should point out that the batlseq archive doesn't contain all information about all fighters, but rather seems to contain supplemental files for various fighters and support pokemon. Character models and textures are located in content/WiiU/packdata/chrdep/master/, where no new files have appeared. If these files really do indicate that there will be new fighters, they will be completely seperate downloads when released (as opposed to the way sm4sh handles DLC, which is essentially just a small file that "unlocks" the new characters already included in the game update). This is interesting because it implies that those without the DLC will not be able to fight against DLC fighters online.

Also, we can rule out the files with 10453 as being significant in terms of DLC, as these are likely files for Croagunk (various pokemon forms in the game are often associated with increments of 100, like Pikachu Libre having files with 10025 and Charizard's mega form being labelled as depp006_100 in his character archive).

Again, the btlseq archive is for supplemental files - not all pokemon have a file in here. Given that there is space for four additional fighters on the CSS, there may be one more surprise fighter we don't know about yet. If we don't see any DLC announcements during Nintendo's E3 streams, it may be something we'll see at Evo.

TL;DR: New files in Pokken suggest Darkrai, Scizor, and Empoleon may be incoming DLC fighters - There could potentially be a fourth fighter too we don't know about yet

Scizor is the likely Pokemon to be a new addition to the roster with Darkrai/Empoleon as the new support set.

Sweeet.

I hope they do more DLC after Empoleon also because I still need my Poliwrath fix.

A new playable Pokemon will be unveiled for the arcade version of Pokken Tournament during a live stream on November 1, the game’s official Twitter account has teased.

The arcade version most recently added Scizor this month, and before that Darkrai in July. Both Pokemon have not been added to the Wii U version of the game.

I hope you Marks are ready for Incineroar's grand debut!

I guess we'll probably get a DLC announcement after they release the last one in arcades.  With all of them in 1 pack maybe.

Either that or we're getting Pokken Tournament Extend for the Switch.

I would actually be totally cool if Swampert made it in, now that you mention that.  It'd totally gone over my head, but yeah, we do have two of the gen 3 starters missing its third as well.

I'm afraid I have to agree with the ciritcs; Blastoise looks freaking weird in this game.  He's more ninja turtle than ever before with the Squirtle Squad.  And the limbs growing twice in length just looks wrong.  It's Slender Blastoise.

I mean, still, hyped at one of the handful of Pokémon I'd want in this game made it, but he looks really off the more I watch him.

Blastoise definitely looks funky, from his model to his animations.  At least he looks better during Syngergy Burst.

Honestly, if we were to get another starter pokemon as a playable character, I think I'd rather see one from Gen 2 first.
We don't have any starters from that gen.
