yeah I couldn't decide how to make the stance look so I just left him still. I mean why not, Guy and Strider stand still and so did all of the characters in SF1. Just thought he would look awkward bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet. Only thing I could think of that might work would be having him "breathe" like CvS Evil Ryu.

I mean why not, Guy and Strider stand still and so did all of the characters in SF1.

While Guy and Hiryu are technically standing still, there are subtle (secondary) animations going on with each one that makes up for their lack of-uhh- lets just say a lack of a bouncy, more livelier animation:

As you can see with Hiryu, his hair and scarf move with the wind. If you look closer, you can see the shading of the chest change slightly (its moving slightly up) to give the effect of subtle breathing. The arm that is touching the sword also slightly moves if one looks closer. As for Guy, you can observe the same slight change in chest shading, as well as subtle arm/hand movements, and a sub-pixellation effect going on in the pants and upper body. This all gives it more life and makes it animate while sticking with the core idea of the characters (silent and strategic ninjas).

SF1 on the other hand, didn't have any of that going on. All stances were just one still frame. To compare Guy and Hiryu's idles to SF1 character idles would be wrong because the former actually have more than one frame. Its just the way that they were made makes it look "still".

I'll be honest. i'm not a good artist by any means, but even i can tell you this much. If you actually want to improve or do something worthwhile, you need to fail. It is kinda mandatory. Will it suck? Probably, but that's ok. Its constructive to fail, so that we see our shortcomings and have a better understanding of our capabilities. honstly i'd say give it a shot

Lol ok maybe. Was thinking about maybe having his stomach go in and having his arms go out a little bit and maybe making his chest go up and having his front leg straighten slightly, then at the end he could blink. Maybe something like that.

Just finished these. Now his sheet is 100% complete, the version without shoes at least. I've updated the sheet that was posted above. Might go back and add those later after I finish the other guys.

Here's an explanation of his moves. I pictured him being a charge character, sort of like Guile without the projectiles. Also, I gave him some ways to avoid projectiles that a lot of other characters don't have. People really use dirty tricks like that in real life to win fights, and since he's a street fighter, figured it would suit him. Always saw him as being a street fighter with really bad ass kicks.

Top to bottom:
- His kick throw. Added the 2nd frame and fixed the fingers on the first.
- (Middle Two Rows) His punch throw. He does a Judo type throw and sweeps the opponent to the ground. Then he hops on top of them to the "mount" position. This is a mashable throw.
- (bottom) His crouching and jumping block animations.

Top row: His regular crouch sprite

2nd row:  His light, middle and heavy crouching kicks. I wanted to give him a crouching heaving kick like Dhalsim's that can slide under projectiles. It would be cool to mix that move up with his overhead kick to keep the opponent guessing.

3rd row: His light, middle and heavy crouching punches.

4th row: An alternate version of his crouching heavy punch. Was thinking Guile. I think this one is better:

His jumping kicks. Was thinking the Split Kick could be his heavy kick and hit two angles at once. It would be good for cross ups.

His overhead kick. These can be done back to back like Cody's jump kick. Done by holding forward and pressing Heavy Kick. Must be blocked high:

His specials with a brief explanation (Top to Bottom):

Split Punch: Down, Down, Down + P
Joe does the splits and hits the opponent in the groin. Must be blocked low. Debating on whether to have the opponent re-act by being pushed back as if they have been hit in the stomach or by being frozen in place and bent over.

Box Car Kick: Charge back, forward + Kick
Similar to Joe Higashi's kick from Fatal Fury. Joe does not travel in a straight line, but in an arc in order to convey the appearance that he's actually jumping forward. The strength of the button pressed determines how far he travels. If it connects, the opponent is knocked back about 3/4 of the screen.

Upper Box Car Kick: Charge down, up + Kick
This is his version of the flash kick and main anti air. The strength of the button pressed determines how high diagonally upward he goes.

Punch Combo: Press punch rapidly
This is his version of Joe Higashi's rapid punch move. If it connects, it creates sort of a vacuum effect as the opponent is drawn in closer. The strength of the button pressed determines how many hits it gets, the final of which is an uppercut that knocks the opponent back about 1/2 the screen length. 4 hits for the LP version, 5 for the MP, 6 for the HP.

Dodge: Charge back, forward + P (not pictured)
Joe dashes forward while leaning to the side like the CvS characters do in the SNK groove. Goes through everything but does no damage. It's main function is to avoid and set up attacks. Also, the recovery is instant.



Also, had 2 ideas for his supers:

"Psychotic Conductor" - Charge back, Zig Zag forward + Kick - Joe dashes forward, does his standing light kick, his standing middle punch, his standing middle kick, his punch combo (6 hits) and then does a number of Jumping spinning kicks (his classic spinning kick). The strength of the button pressed determines how many kicks he does. This goes through projectiles for the start up. It is similar to the super Takuma has where he dashes forward.

"Trainyard Tornado" - Double QCB + K - Joe does his jumping spin kick over and over again while moving vertically. The strength of the button pressed determines how many kicks he does. Similar to Ken's Shinryuken or Akuma's vertical  hurricane kick super from MvC2.

I'm just going to post this, he's not 100% complete, only about 90%, but he has all of the animations he needs to make a full character. He has every move he had in SF1. This is Joe again but with the shoes. I will update this as I finish the rest of his sprites. Shouldn't be too much longer. Also, just need to finish the elbows on the stance, they were slightly off:

Have to admit, that kick really does look nice. But I suggest fixing his right to viewer hand in the third sprite. THIS is something you'd like to have.

It looks kinda bad tbh
The shading isn't very SFA like on the second frame, and the last couple of frames don't flow in any way, like he brings his leg out, pulls it back a bit, pulls it back more, and then immediately goes to nearly standing? He SHOULD just has his leg move closer to the ground after the kick
There's also banding on the first frame on his (viewers) right arm, and theres broken lines where there doesn't need to be, SFA sprites only break lines when ABSOLUTELY necessary. On top of that the shading looks wrong in quite a lot of places, both in regards to line art, but also how the sprites convey depth. Like, the lightsource is meant to come directly from above, yet his shoulder in the last frame receives no light at all.
I don't mean to come off as a dick (though admittedly i can be one sometimes) and i only say all of this in the hopes that it'll prove useful. Good luck dude

Hmm ok, well thanks Trolo, might just do away with that frame for that sprite. Just thought it would make it more like a middle attack.

In response to Yoshin, honestly, couldnt really tell the difference in shading. All kind of looked the same.  Not sure what you mean by branding and broken lines. Also, I admit that light source was always a little confusing. I dont really have anything to go off of.

Ha but thats good that you can admit that you are a dick, if you really are one. I will try to fix whats wrong if I can figure it out though.

Always thought that if the 5 SF1 guys were going to be brought back, it should be in SF Alpha form because that's how most of the others guys were that were brought back.

Yeah, no problem, you don't have to thank me. Well, I was going to stop posting after what had happened in that last topic, but I have really appreciated the feedback here so I will post this. It is far from complete, but here is the beginning of Alpha-style Geki. Thanks to Spriter's Resource, and to Bonzai for the sprites I used as a base. Also thanks to Shubuster and Yawackhary for ripping the Wolverine and Geki sprites I used as a reference. Hope you enjoy.

these sprites looks great,the strider hiryu base fits perfectly to geki,the sprites looks old school like in SFOne,but with a sf alpha touch.

I don't mean to get ahead of myself, this is still a ways off, but I was brainstorming ways to make Mike without doing too much scratch spriting and I found these rips on Spriters Resource of him and Lee that were ripped by Yawackhary. I think this is how I will make Mike when the time comes for him -- he will just be a slower but harder hitting version of Balrog/ M. Bison, but he will have 3 moves similar to  Shingo's dashing punch. His version will hit at different angles though. Also, he will have a rapid punch special where he throws punches repeatedly to the body, but unlike Joe's, his wont end until the player stops mashing or is hit out of it. Also, he will have a move where he leans to the side like Cody's so he can avoid projectiles and create breathing room against attacks. His move set will be something like this:

Dragon Punch Forward + Any Punch: Shingo's dashing punch. LP version hits low and knocks opponent off feet, MP version hits the head and sends opponent flying across screen if it connects, and the HP version is an uppercut and his main anti air. All 3 versions knock the opponent across the screen.

Press Punch rapidly: He throws the multiple punches to the body, alternating hands as he punches.

Down, Down, + P or K: He leans to the side. Punches do the standing version, kicks do the crouching one.

I wasn't going to get too fancy with him, and I don't think he really needs to be.  Here were the sprites that I had found from SF1:

Down, Down, + P or K: He leans to the side. Punches do the standing version, kicks do the crouching one.

I wasn't going to get too fancy with him, and I don't think he really needs to be.  Here were the sprites that I had found from SF1. Also, I recolored DaiKaiwahara's verison of Mike to make his pants more like they were in SF1:

Just made this. Thanks once again to Spriter's Resource for the sprites used as a base. I'm going to make Lee's portrait, then add a few Geki sprites, then I need a break for a while. I'm about to be really busy. But at least when these are done someone can take a Capcom style version of Lee and Mike and make a SF1 remake. Geki and Retsu aren't complete by the way. They are just bare minimum characters. I still have a lot I want to do with them. Here's Mike's portrait, let me know what you think:

Which base would you inspire Lee?

Strider as a Base for Geki was a decent idea it compromise with the rest of the Alpha themed sprites...

I hope you would also look into Darkstalkers and other Marvel characters as a base rather than CVS sprites. because of being fitting for the aesthetic established.

Very nice on Lee with Gen base, It would look awesome like Joe and Geki.

If you haven't yet finish Retsu and while your currently starting with Mike.

Other base you could worked around and explore more other characters like you did with Geki with mid build body are likely Captain America, Cyclops, Cable and Ironman for Marvel.

While for DS you could look into Donovan, Demitri, Bishamon and Pyron.
I hope you'll do Haggar based Colossus and Victor inspired someday.

Mike's Muscular build isn't similar to Balrog his more smaller.

You could use sideview of forge head for Lee and ProfX head for Retsu if you still not have a base and your not going for the custom one.

You could also use some based from Oboro Bishamon very few sprites in VSAV/DS for Retsu.

One more thing: I compiled all of these just for simplicity. The only one I couldn't find was Eagle, but I took the one off of Fighter's Generation, then resized it and trimmed it down. I just have to clean it up, unless someone else wants to, or unless they have a clean version. The SFA3 characters were ripped by Spriter's Resource.


Also, for Mike's moves, his dashing punches could be called the "Rushmore Punch" (reference to his SF1 stage) and his multiple punch special could just be called "body punches." Was thinkin he could have some sort of move like Shingo Yabuki's overhead elbow too, just to pressure the opponent. Maybe call it "Rushmore smash" or "Overhead elbow."

Thanks, I want to make Geki's alternate color less "red" and more tan later.

Just spent a few hours finding these. They were NOT ripped by me and I don't take credit for them. Got lots of them from Fighters Generation and Google searches. They are from various  SNK and Capcom games. These were some stages that looked like SF1 stages:

Left (top to bottom):

I cant see the Geki stage. Is it Ibuki's from 3rd strike? Was trying to shy away from Street Fighter Stages as much as possible, but that one is nice.  Also, Ryu's 3rd strike level could be used as Retsu's.

Also, Adon's SFA2 stage would look awesome if the sky and water were colored orange.
