About the only people who know I like anime are childhood friends and a few family members. The word otaku still holds a somewhat negative connation in Japan and they pribably don't understand why Americans find that word to be positive. Video games are widely accepted, but I doubt anime is going to reach that level. Sure, Attack on Titan and Kill la Kill have been said to generate some newfound interest. But anime is still only seen on late-at-night and on Saturday mornings in terms of regular television. There is considering that most of these people have entered into the medium because of moe, slice-of-life, or mainstream titles. But instead of hating or loathing them, you can point them in a different direction. In fact, I've seen posts on the internet of "I became interested in anime because of Attack on Titan or Kill La Kill and I want to get some recommendations." Your veteran anime fan experience can do exactly that.
Unfortunately,I can't tell anyone here that I like anime because that is usually followed by people laughing at me and saying "lol he faps to cartoons".....Or sometimes I have to explain what anime is to them before they start doin that
Since we're at the interesection of the USA and Japan, everyone here regularly watches at LEAST one anime (also at least one Korean soap opera but that's another story), so it's pretty normal to be an anime fan.
People always look to the current generation and say that the generation they grew up with was better. It's a never ending cycle.

I heard he's the hero of Hawaii, is that true? Are there Kikaida events 'on the reg'?

I kinda find it ironic that there used to be a baby furniture shop literally right next to a strip joint and adult bookstore some distance from where I live.
This generation is marked by the internet usage. Every dumb stuff they write or do will be recorded in the Internet forever. Of course past gens had their dumb people too but there are few records of them?

I heard he's the hero of Hawaii, is that true? Are there Kikaida events 'on the reg'?Ah yes, Kikaida. He's been a big deal down here since the late 70's, and sometimes they air reruns of the original shows on the Japanese channel. IIRC at least once a year, Ban Daisuke comes to Hawaii and he signs autographs and does interviews and shit. It used to be more, but Shirokiya's management changed and they focus more on their Japanese radio station that they run in-store (sometimes Japanese celebrities show up to it and do talkshows) than on a singular TV show, so most of the time, you'll either meet him at Kawaiicon (Hawaii's anime convention) or at a Wal-Mart somewhere on the agriculture-side of the island.
Jango Kayano said, July 29, 2014, 01:28:47 amI thought the game would've been too mainstream for him.a bit funny how there's people that still think this

You young'uns with your Marutos and Attacking Titans. Back in my day it was called Japanimation! And we had to watch it uphill both ways, in the snow!
Here I was thinking that I was the old man around here that do those things that Person Man said.As for me... well, I have liked some anime in the past. I was really big into Naruto in the beginning of it's run on Cartoon Network. Then, once the filler started, I just left. Then there are the times that I'd watch InuYasha or Ghost in the Shell. To me, I'd prefer good old Western Animation. Nothing wrong with anime... it's just the Western stuff is what I grew up with.
