Title: Saikoro's Portrait Release Thread |Indexed 1.0 Content|
Post by: Saikoro on November 08, 2012, 04:36:55 am
Welcome to my humble portrait abode loaded with plenty of high quality portrait sets to help sex up your Mugen, making your customized selections look like something completely official in the process. There's something particularly awesome about having great, varied and official artwork that pops on your screenpack's select screen to go along with a favorite character of yours. The main purpose of this thread is to offer all of my older 1.0 portrait releases in one complete spot. While these portraits will indeed work for any version of Mugen, this thread covers all of my released content covering 1.0's engine since 1.0 allowed only for indexed, 256 color .png files.

A FEW FORMATTING TIPS AND NIFTY PHOTOSHOP SHORTCUTS

Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty

MY MOST RECENT RELEASE

1.0 Portrait Collection

I thought it was finally time to give 1.0 the sendoff it deserves. With all of the work I have been doing for the past two years, content was starting to pile up rather nicely. My original intentions were to continually release content for 1.0 in my indexed package standard. However, work got to be so overwhelming and time consuming, I first began to jump around from art style to art style just to stay a little sane and keep things exciting. Once that got tiring, I eventually stopped creating content all together (that dry spell lasted 8 months!!) and merely looking at indexed portraits became unnerving. I was very close to throwing the towel in for good; moderating and portrait work all together. Yes, I almost quit Mugen because it wasn't fun anymore. I wasn't happy about it, but I was on that fence and almost jumped off. :(

Fortunately, NoZ and Two4Teezee came around showcasing beta work for 1.1 material in the form of their sexy Screenpacks. If it weren't for them two coming around and pretty much saying "Look at what 32bit PNG files can do" I wouldn't have decided to move on to 1.1 portrait material. With the move to sexy PNG files that require 2/3rds less cleaning (There is still a lot of work to be done, but not as much comparatively), I thought it would be wise to share all of my 1.0 work wrapped up into one package. And there's a lot of content.

First off, you get 58 varied portraits showcasing lots of different art in the form of:

And of course, plenty of screenshots. ;D

But it doesn't stop there!! Along with everything you get above, I also intended to do full sets for all of Street Fighter II's releases showcasing official artwork that Capcom is known for. I nearly finished all of SF2 Revival's Artwork with the exception of E. Honda, Dhalsim and Zangief. So you get 14 portraits in Revival's sexy style.

I also intended to do a full SF2:HD set. Work for each of these added up to about 15 hours between cleaning up the main template and the finalized indexed image. These came out really nice. You get:

Here's a singular screenshot of Vega and Zangief. It's hard to believe that these are 256 colors!!

And you also get full portrait sets in the form of actual in-game rips from those awesome classics, Street Fighter 2, Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Super Street Fighter 2: Turbo. To say that these are a treat is an understatement. Here's some singular shots in each style:

Here's Sagat and Balrog in SF2's style
(http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a95/SA1K0R0/Portrait%20Collections/SF2BalrogSagat_zps2c2e5dd4.png)

Here's Ryu and Ken in SF2 Turbo's Style
(http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a95/SA1K0R0/Portrait%20Collections/SF2TKenRyu_zps40cbd93b.png)

Lastly, here we have Blanka and M.Bison in Super's Style
(http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a95/SA1K0R0/Portrait%20Collections/SF2SBlankaBison_zpsff05fc3b.png)

So with everything included, you get a massive 118 portraits to add to your 1.0 roster. And even though I use BrokenMugen as my standard, keep in mind that these will work for any screenpack that supports your standard portrait style. :2thumbsup:

You can snag them at Cybaster's Office (http://network.mugenguild.com/cybaster/) in the Hosted Section.
**The file weighs in at 1.96 megabytes total**

I'd like to thank Cybaster for hosting me, as always, and NoZ along with Two4Teezee for getting me off of my lazy ass so that I can continually make Portrait Content for the long run. I ain't going anywhere soon now that 1.1 material is now a reality for me. This also marks my last indexed, 1.0 portrait release. Every future release will be in 32but, 1.1 PNG formatting.

As always, Constructive Criticism and Feedback are welcome!! I sincerely hope you guys get some good usage out of these varied portraits. Enjoy everyone!! :devilish:

Pretty neat release, so freaking clean :D I wish you could help me with something I tried to do myself to failed in the process for the Nexus Reborn screenpack... maybe PM would be a more proper place for this...

If I change the scaling to what you said simply to have these portraits, would all my other ports be messed up?

Yes. For standard resolution offerings, you will skew how low resolution, or 120x140, portraits look. You could always just scale down the bigger ones I provided and see what happens.

How would I scale them down? I probably wouldn't notice any differences (you'd probably flip out over all the differences or something :mmhmm:).

Epic release post is EPIC!!!

Now...to see if I can make some time into my busy life so I can brandish my mugen with all your work!  --;

I don't know if I've said it enough already Sai, but thanks for sharing your dedication with all of us.

..and also more than anything for being a very cool bro.

Keep up the groundbreaking work as always cuz it is indeed very much appreciated.

LOL You are correct.

Just open up an image in photoshop and go to image/image size and cut the resolution in half.

However, 240x280 resolutions are that much better quality and clarity wise, hence the standard I follow. Also, each 240x280 portrait took a solid hour or two to thoroughly clean up. Sooooo.... cutting back the detail further would simply ruin the quality. :(

You got it Max. I've already got my eyes on what's next, and its gonna be a doozy. I seriously need a damned break though. I don't "play" Mugen. Unless if you consider Photoshop and a Mouse as my controller, then I play all of the time. With PIXELS!!  :woeh:

Is Gimp an acceptable substitute? I don't want to indirectly spend a good 500$ or so just for some sexy portraits.

@C.A.N. Infranview is a very small free and awesome application that can resize the portraits for you. It will even batch resize the ones you point it to in mere seconds. Give it a try.

Such a nice early Christmas gift for the community. I'm really hype and ready to put these epic ports to work and show off, of my mugen. Awesome release and thanks for such a phenomenal job. Your works will not be in vain, trust me on that tip. Now I can really hook up my mugen, even more in style. I love custom good stuff, so I can pimp out my mugen. Thanks again Sai, for all the hard work you put in man.

I always try to take rare artwork into consideration. Revival literally makes Capcom's iconic and classic characters jump off of the screen when you put your cursor on them. I also figure since its Mugen, distinguishing artwork should be a standard.

And don't worry about WarZoNe as I have some interesting art in store for NoZ's excellent release.

So beautiful

Thanks Cazaki. Expect much more in time: I've got a lot in store.

Firstly I want to thank you for making one of my favourite screenpacks to 1.0! Really awesome work! But I have little problem with it, I installed it like the instructions told me and everything is scaled in a weird way, everything is really huuuuuge and it makes it almost impossible to see what you're doing.

Here is a picture what is happening:

It has been really long time since I have done something with Mugen, so if this is something really basic and everyone else knows how to fix it, please tell me, thanks!  :)

That's for 640X480 only, the screenshot taken here easily shows that you are using the screenpack on 1280X720.

EDIT: Your Mugen Folder > "Data" Folder > Mugen.cfg

Open the file and look for gamewidth and gameheight in the [config] section, change them to 640 and 480, respectively.

Oh, I tried to change mugen settings to 640X480, but it didn't help. Or do I have to download something specific mugen version? Sorry I feel so noob with this, it has been so long time since I have installed screenpacks :- D

EDIT: I already wrote this before I saw your edit in your message, but anyways... Thank you thank you so much! Now it works and im so happy! :- )
Title: Re: Saikoro's Portrait Release Thread: SFxT Portrait Set Release/SF2 Set WIP!!

Hmmm.... There should be two different settings for your resolutions: localcoord and gamewidth/height. Male sure both are set to that. And if I am wrong, its only because I'm going off of memory without Mugen in front of me.

Also, work for my portrait pack will resume come tomorrow. I've been spending time categorizing stages and trimming my mp3s so they sound like they loop, along with full track information (year, artist, title etc.). Along with my SF2 set, I have two special requests going on as well. Work is substantial, but a little slow.

Expect updates and screenshots soon. Progress is fantastic and super clean: I've picked up a few new tricks working on SF2 and co. Therefore progress is going to take a slight bit longer with clarity improving.

Lastly, I apologize if anyone has sent me a message with no reply: things have been busy for me as of late. I may reply late, but I never leave a message alone.

Saikoro, yeah I tried localcoord and some other ways too before writing here, but they either messed the scaling even more or did nothing. Thank you again for making this screenpack to 1.0, it's super awesome! By the way, is there a way to set every fight to have 2 rounds? Didn't find anything at options and if I remember correctly, round settings used to be there, at least you can change time limit there.

I'm pretty sure it's still there. Maybe it was in the fight.def.....I tend to forget :P But it's in one of those two, just look a bit harder :D

WattaWright, yeah I found it, I have not messed much with Mugen 1.0. Im remembering that in earlier Mugen versions you could actually change rounds amount in-game options and not have to write poetry to fight.def file to get to fight 2 rounds in every fight :- D I can be wrong though.

Wow, these are really good looking. So good looking that I made an account just to say "Wow, these are really good looking. So good looking that I made...".

I mean, I've never even played Mugen, but these makes me want to. This forum has some talented-ass people.

I really appreciate that comment Edison. It's good feedback like this that makes all of the hard work worth it. And yes, there are plenty of greats around here. Enjoy your stay. Welcome to Guild.

By the way, is there a way to set every fight to have 2 rounds? Didn't find anything at options and if I remember correctly, round settings used to be there, at least you can change time limit there.

Go into your fight/fightM.def file and look for this line:

Code:

;---------------Round & Fight & WinIcon
[Round] ;-------------------------Round

match.wins         = 3
match.maxdrawgames = 3

That'll do it. I always have this set to 3. ;)

First post updated to reflect my latest release!! It's been 9 months since I graced the Community with Street Fighter X Tekken's massive portrait set. I plan to avoid that all together this time with quicker release schedules. Enjoy guys!! :2thumbsup:

And please... for any image sizing/scaling issues, please consult the provided documentation to get an idea of what to do. ;D

Oh yeah Magma. Expect a healthy dosage of more SNK goodness very soon. And yes, Art of Fighting is going to be converted too. It's planned at one point and I should be getting to it soon. ;D

You made my morning V!! I highly appreciate your comments, as well as everyone's comments for sure!! Chugging away, daily at this point, is always worth it when I post releases for the community and comments like this follow. All of this hard work is a labor of love.  :lugoi:

I have a lot of artwork in store, with one in particular that will be even more obscure than this Fatal Fury Set, so keep your eyes peeled.

Once again, thank you very much for your comments. ;D

Such beautiful work Sai!
Question, can I use these ports outside BrokenMugen?

They can be used in any screenpack, not just Brokenmugen. I don't know why everyone thinks these are only usable in BM. ._.

Of course!! These are actually designed for any screenpack that utilizes your standard image sizes. Just remember to set your scaling to .5 as instructed in my included readme. But yeah, you're good to go. ;D

It's probably because of my screenshots... since BM is all I use LOL

BM...heh. :smug:

Some may not realize that Broken uses standard port size.

Some may not realize that Broken uses standard port size.

That's the funny thing that people don't realize: My work is compatible with any screenpack. The only thing you have to do is adjust that scaling option that I explain in each and every included readme file.

I think it comes down to all of my screenshots showcasing BrokenMugen and the header of "high resolution." The portraits themselves are high resolution!!! And speaking of which, I still become amazed at the end results I have been producing. Sometimes, I get a little irritated at first. But when things start coming together and an image begins to get finalized, I can't help but go wow.

I think I'll start showing off different screenshots with different screenpacks in the future. :mmhmm:

;D

Thank you very, very much Bley. Believe me, making them look as if they were not edited was quite an effort. If my memory serves me right, all three of Akiha's forms took about 10 hours each, with Vermilion hitting the 12.5 hour mark: Her fucking hair was a pain in the ass. With such bold and simplistic primary colors, tons of distortion needed to be cleaned up. Tons.

However, I am very proud with A: The way they came out and B: comments like yours. While I sometimes hate working on so much stuff, the end result is crazy fun and amazing to boot.

Remember that these portraits are compatible with any screenpack you choose to utilize!! Just adjust your scaling options in your .def file and you're golden!!

I highly appreciate your feedback guys. Thank you very much. I'm projecting about 10 more "in-between" portraits before officially starting work on Garou. And results for Garou will be quick and efficient based off of color tests. Results for current works are also spectacular. Keep your eyes peeled in the screenshots section!! :devilish:

No worries at all. Thank you once again for allowing my work to be on your awesome site!! Plenty will be added in time. ;D

With Cybaster's announcement, I updated the first post.

Coming from you, I am humbled to hear that.

Alright everyone. Expect solid work soon, and it will be quite different from my past releases content wise. Although my schedule is fucking bananas, if I could find time for things to do with my spare time, I could easily make time for my favorite gaming hobby: making Mugen Portraits.

I gotta shuffle through some stuff, but expect a long overdue update/release within the next week or even sooner.

Post by: Saikoro on August 03, 2014, 05:49:24 pm
I went ahead and blew the dust off of the main post by adding in my original thread material for each title's spoiler, while also updating the title to mark the fact that I have one more release up my sleeve for good old 1.0. Once my last 1.0 release is shared, this thread will act as a hub for my 1.0 material due to the fact that I have hit 35,000+ visits. That's pretty fucking rad, eh??

While I've been saying this for a while now, expect one more 1.0 release very soon. Consider it a preview of what's to come 1.1 wise, and it's gonna be huge. As in about 100 or so portraits huge. ;D

Stay tuned.

The first post was updated thoroughly. Be sure to check it out!!

And expect a lot of awesome in the foreseeable future. I've been pretty busy as of late. ;)
