So it's a statue eh?
But I'm taking bets, when North Korea fires their shit, this will no longer be a statue that we all think it is. =)

That last comment you said, Kiki, reminds me of Daiguard.
-
Haha, I never seen that anime before.
Oh, I don't want to post (this) in the robot thread, I think it belongs rightfully in its own thread. I don't like the other thread.
EDIT: By the way I hear Japan isn't allowed to build their own army or something, so maybe all their funding went into this? :S
-
These Japanese guys are a bit late... We've had our own Mazinger Z for more than 25 years :)

Yeah, but he's just a wittle guy.
If you can, at all, you MUST go see this in person before they take it down on the 31st of August.
:(
-
I ordered one.
-
Holy shit yes.
-
In daiguard they had built a robot after an "alien like" attack, but the "aliens" never come back, so the robot was left as a statue for tourists in a sort of a diversion park, when decades after the aliens strike back its up to the employees of the park to ride it against all odds( and without training) , it included such pearls as the driver making up a makeshift rocket punch by unscrewing the joints before punching an alien dude.( some details may be hazy, been years since i saw it)

too much of a let down not to have at least upper body mobility considering they spent 9 digits on this baby( and yes that's in dollars not yen). quite something for a country in recession for the past 10 yrs.
100 mil and they're tearing it down in three months!?
-
for what purpose it was built, promotional campaign for model kits?? o_O
-
It's for the franchise's 30th anniversary.
-
yeah i've seen that one months ago
lol at the mazinger z it doesn't move? just wait a few years, korean college students and robo engineers are building a real moving piece but it isn't mazinger but it's kinda look like him.
edit: the korean robot name is Kakure Gaijin: Taekwon V
so it begins...
TAEKWON V vs. GUNDAM

I fear the presence of otakus jerking off in front of the statue at late night, when nobody's around. :ninja:
-
--;
ninja do that frequently yeah.

nah, they are too busy killing themselves because k-on is going to be over soon.
-
O.O .......... damn its so AWESOME..!
-
I am so so tempted to go there - it'll still be up when I turn 30 myself, and it might be an interesting way to commemorate the occasion.
I'm not even that much of a fan, although I liked the movies made from the original series.
-
It's a shame they'll be taking it down so soon. :-\
-
where was it built ? they should just move it to akiba and keep it as a tourist atraction.
-
no they will hide it and upgrade the gundam for the future intervention in N.korea
-
Like the Trojan Horse, N Korea plans to use it for something unexpected, probably with nukes.
