2008 was a damn good year.
Gas prices went down, Phelps beasted the Olympics, OBAMA!, the Super Bowl was the perfect underdog story, Sarah Palin's sexy ass became famous lol, Bush is GONE!!!!!, the Phillies aka pro sports' biggest loser won the World Series, Britney Spears made a (GOOD) comeback, the list goes on.....

True, but what 2008 did was give us all hope.
2008 was the year of the underdog.
Obama, the Giants over the Pats, the Phillies, the fall of gas prices, even Britney lol etc.
2008 showed that change is on the way and hope and determination can prove the odds wrong.

There's a flip side to the whole "2012 = end of the world" theory.  There are those who believe the Mayans merely considered Dec 2012 the end of our current state of consciousness, not the world.  Some think it will define the ascendence of human thought/experience to a higher plane or level.  It's all very metaphysical, and unlikely, but it's certainly a nice sentiment.  Sure beats death and destruction. :-\
