Title: WarZoNe by NoZ
Post by: NoZ on August 31, 2012, 09:32:43 pm
The Screenpack to end all my previous works, the concept inspired by Street Fighter X Tekken, but different in a lot of ways,The name was created by Saikoro a play of words with War and my name NoZ,It took longer because of personal issues but here is what I think is a finished version, this download includes the screenpack, the portraits, templates for those portraits, menu images for customizing the main menu(made by a lot of members of MFG btw),all the fonts are custom made by me,also this is closed source,so please respect that as well, also this is the only version of the screenpack im releasing, the other one with custom small ports has been scrapped, enjoy and feedback is very welcome

Maxbeta = for your friendship and feedback bro
Saikoro = all that portrait feedback that you do and for the start of good friendship

I just had to stop in and give my 2 cents on this one. Long awaited and well designed, one of the top creations thus far for me. Looking forward to playing this for many months with my son. Thanks again for all your hard dedication, for the fan's and the community. Very well done and you better get your copy while supplies last.

Simply put: Wow.

Your creative talents shine through brightly, very brightly, with this one to bring the community something truly awesome. I'm also glad to have been a part in influencing your name choice. It's a natural fit!! Now everyone will know who brought such awesomeness upon us. It also fits your creation well if you ask me.

One could nitpick scant details such as a few lossy portraits here and there, or a few stark design elements. But thats just splitting hairs in an entirely, overall coheshive package. The best detail you have implemented is your Team Select graphical overlay: You're gonna have plenty of people borrowing from that design element. It's incredible in my opinion. And 130 portraits!? Deeeeyam!!

Overall, very well done. I sincerely mean that.

Congrats on your release NoZ. It's great to have another fantastic screenpack to use on my HDD. It's also great to have a talented friend amongst all of the greats here on MFG. Feel free to message me anytime.  :)

Thanks for the awesome share. I can't wait to get my hands dirty.... :sugoi:

Man this screenpack rocks  :dio:. I am really picky about what screenpack and lifebars i use but this one caught my eye. I love it
I tried to run it with 1280x720 resolution and it works well except the speed, looking forward to 1.1 ;). But when i run it fullscreen at that resolution everything is white, any idea why?

I have a problem too.
I use GIMP all the time, and it was somewhat successful in getting the portrait base inside it, but it doesn't recognize the Street fighter 4 font and the Ryu name is only the one in orange.

The template is for photoshop
Title: Re: WarZoNe by NoZ
Post by: evilakuma1000 on September 06, 2012, 06:49:52 am
What I mean is I don't understand this part:
""3.you must have installed the font I included with download to make the
names of the characters for the portraits

4.just copy and paste layer style on each individual part of the port

 examples
a.copy the layer style of the art and paste it in your selected art for your port
b.just edit the text if you dont want to copy layer style when making the name""

First I assume  that by installing the font that you included will mean the file called ""SSF4 ABUKET.ttf"" right ? I did install that but after that how can I use them in photo shop ? And for the build file how can we copy the style of the layers ? What I mean is How to add those effect for the art layer? And the same question for the text layer. Everything else Is greater that great Noz just amazing :)   :dio:
Title: Re: WarZoNe by NoZ
Post by: Suave 6-year old on September 06, 2012, 07:42:04 am
You have to right click on the art, then click copy layer style, go to your image, right click on it and click paste layer style. That's how I'm doing it. That's right, right Noz?

Title: Re: WarZoNe by NoZ
Post by: XamΣeta on September 06, 2012, 03:11:06 pm

I loaded that one up on mugen last night and the only apparent colorloss starts in the armpit and goes all the way down to where the flames start.

...but its not much at all.

You get an A- from me Garuda for the nice share....but don't listen to me cuz I tend to be a nitpicker. ;)
Title: Re: WarZoNe by NoZ
Post by: Garuda on September 06, 2012, 03:35:02 pm
Thank you, i have to admit it was a rushed work and I didn't look very closely for color loss.

I am having some indexing problem with the lifebar portraits tough...

Someone care to share a mini guide on how to create it??
Title: Re: WarZoNe by NoZ
Post by: evilakuma1000 on September 06, 2012, 03:42:02 pm
just open the LIFEBAR TEMPLATE.psd delete the art layer and put on your own if the portrait is wide and gets under the green color shapes delete those pixels. And some chars have the problem with the lf portraits but just change the place you added the portrait if it was in the end of the sff file of your char just change it to the beginning after the 9000,0 sprite hope this helps :)
Title: Re: WarZoNe by NoZ
Post by: XamΣeta on September 06, 2012, 03:57:10 pm

Um....what he said, and I just want to add that its always safer to add the sprite at the end of the sff so you don't automatically go messing up the shared palettes.

This is probably the best screenpack I've seen so far. I like the feel to it and the custom portraits are pretty neat (Making my own every now and then probably make my own thread for them). Kick-ass job, NoZ!
Title: Re: WarZoNe by NoZ
Post by: Saikoro on September 06, 2012, 06:24:18 pm
@Garuda: Proper Colorloss editing?? Regardless of what image you have and what your methods are, its a matter of clicking away one pixel at a time, with a one pixel size brush and 300% zoom. It's what I do with every single portrait I have released. All of the filters you can throw on a shit image equates to a shit image with a rushed, shoddy filtered look.

Ya can't rush art.

Thanks Saikoro!

For the LB portrait problem: I do every step correclty, but when I try to index the thfinished image I have a problem with the transparecy: pink isn't transparent!

Thanks Saikoro!

For the LB portrait problem: I do every step correclty, but when I try to index the thfinished image I have a problem with the transparecy: pink isn't transparent!

IIRC, you have to open up the images palette and select the bottom most square of the right corner. Select this box and set the colors to 255, 0, 255. That should be the hot pink color that will act as your transparency. Now make that color your BG color and voila!!

I will try!Edit:problem solved, lifebar and win portraits are done!I have also done a new win portrait for Dan:(http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/5268/mugen001va.png)Now I have one more problem... When I run WarZoNe in fullscreen MUGEN appears all greenish like there is a green filter.

If I take a screen shot with f12 the ss appear normal!!
Title: Re: WarZoNe by NoZ
Post by: Saikoro on September 09, 2012, 04:33:27 pm
While you have a nice eye for good looking art, do you not notice all of the rough looking pixels peppered throughout Dan's face?? It looks absolutely terrible when you zoom in.

I will be forward yet honest here, so I hope I'm not coming off as a dick to you. And if I am, oops.

People, you HAVE to fix details like this. Having all of these dead pixels scattered throughout a personally made portrait makes it look like shit no matter how great your art source is. Not everyone is going to be as detail crazy as NoZ, MaxBeta or I, but that doesn't mean you spend 30 minutes tops on these things.

Also, if you look at all of Mugen's awesome releases, like NoZ screenpack here, you will notice quality in the form of nice and refined .pcx work that is indexed with minimal colorloss. Does everyone need to spend 3+ hours on a master portrait template?? No. But, quality is earned, not filtered or easily clicked away.

I commend your effort Garuda, but you could do MUCH better than that measly Dan. Seriously.
Title: Re: WarZoNe by NoZ
Post by: Garuda on September 09, 2012, 11:11:50 pm
I need to train my eye more, because now that you mentioned it I can see all those terrible pixels!!I will improve for sure!

First of all, both the screenpack itself and the lifebars are top notch, excellent work all around. I have to say, though, I'm always surprised most creators seem to forget to add a hyphen (-) to their lifebar fonts. Was this an oversight or intentional or what?

Going to try out this legendary screenpack today :)
I have a question - is there a version without custom portraits, which uses common 120x140 ones inside the archive? Or only the version with those custom portraits?
(I just remember H-loader made versions with custom and non custom portraits in his mugen 3 galaxy screenpack, I wonder if NoZ done the same)

Not yet by the looks of it. It comes preloaded with many portraits. If you want more of them, you can follow this (http://mugenguild.com/forum/topics/nozs-warzone-custom-portrait-thread-144404.0.html) thread that Saikoro made.

Adjust the display resolution, NOT the localcoord. This screenpack was designed to run at a certain resolution. Anything that forces it out of that size will only make things distorted.

and you put Fullscreen mode=1.

The screenpack is orgasmic...and it works great! until i get to the fight screen and my mugen runs like it at a bucket of cement... it runs slow is what i'm saying... is it laptop? or is it the screenpack itself. i hope not because this is the best screen pack i've ever used.

the Graphics, the layers, and the total number of frames can lag any computer that's wasn't made for graphics/games (or low/poor when it comes to RAM). so in a way, yeah, it's because of the screenpack and your laptop.

The same thing happened to me with another screenpack. Go to Options and set the game speed to 4 or 5, that should fix the fight screen problem.

or just go to mugen.cfg and test lowering the number of certain parameters like ExplodMax and stuff.

Post by: PlayerOne on February 18, 2013, 10:01:14 pm
For people with the slow down problem, I had that when I first downloaded and tried out the screenpack in 640x480.
It lagged and I couldn't figure out why, so I deleted the mugen.cfg file that came with the screenpack and replaced it with a brand new one from a fresh copy of Mugen 1.0. Then the lag stopped and it works gracefully ever since. I think NoZ possibly made some demanding changes in the CFG file. If not then idk, but replacing it with a new one fixed any lag problem I had. I hope this works for others.

640x480 is the resolution to go! Until 1.1 and the support for multithread and video cards.

If you're having a lag problem even though you have a decent config. Go to options and set your Game speed to Fast 4 or 5. This is usually the problem.

If your options screen is not appearing then maybe the Rar file you downloaded was broken. Re-download it and the problem should be fixed.

It is not a lag problem, my mugen default res is set to 1920 x 1080, so when I get to the select screen it does not display the game choice options and in the character select screen, you can't see the level name.

how about this:

 ;DirectX - DirectX 5 renderer
;OpenGLScreen - hack that allows window resizing but could be slow
RenderMode = OpenGLScreen-change this to DirectX or System

Find pictures that are enough high on size.
600*600 for me is the STRICT minimum.
Then it's ok to make a normal portrait.
By normal i want to say a port of good quality. ;)

I have a quick question, a little help pertaining to this screenpack I believe.

I use custom 9000,0 portraits instead of the default ones that come with characters. Now this works fine with the 9000,1-3 Ports but only partially works with the 9000,0 sprites. Let me show you what i mean.

This is in Team Arcade mode.
Ok so the portrait shows up fine in "Turns" mode that i am using as (player 1) and i used "Simul" mode for player 2. How would i go about changing something in the fight.def file to fix the "Simul" 9000,0 ports? As you can see parasite's port is distorted color-wise when it's supposed to be clear and of a pink like color.

Well check in the characters sff see if the shared color palette in the 9000,0 port has a check mark,if it is uncheck it,see if that works, also in some characters (non 1.0 ones) make the port the last of the sff,see if that helps

Also when Legacy is released,in the custom version small ports will be changed on the system sff. so you don't mess with the 9000,0 ports, cause sometimes changing the 9000,0 port fucks the characters palettes in some cases

Also when Legacy is released small ports will be changed on the system sff. so you don't touch the 9000,0 sparing you of any palette problems, also this gives you the opportunity to make animated small ports

Ok but I don't have any problems with Character palettes after I change the 9000,0 port. The only problem is the pixel color distortion of the 9000,0 port on "Simul" mode.

I will try moving the ports to the end of the sff file and I am using FF3 but I don't see a shared palette option on there. The main reason I changed the ports is because most of the default ones look ugly to me.

I have almost replaced all of them so far with about 20+ that still need to be changed.

You need to patch this to support 1920 by 1080 resolutions as none of the options are visible in this res.  I got Mugen 1.0 so that I could play with high res characters and do not want to use 640 x 480.  Please fix or patch for this res, Thanx.

First, you need to look at it in the context the requester used. The person requesting basically "demanded" a patch since THEY couldn't see anything; they did no intent of trying to fix the problem themselves.

Second, NoZ did not talk to people like "shit." Care to point where he did? He just said that he did not want to make support for any other resolution. You have to take into account that he probably is working on other things *cough*Legacy*cough* and thus cannot make support for a higher resolution. There was no "shit" talking anywhere. Please don't take things out of context and try to derail the thread. Thanks.

NoZ wanted to release this screenpack for a 640x480 resolution, he has no obligation to change it, as it's his personal preference to make it for that resolution. Also, asking with a "Please fix thanks bye" attitude is kind of rude. He could have said "Would it be possible that you make this screenpack compatible for a 1920x1080 resolution?", it wouldn't have sounded as rude as Hihoshi wrote it.

I'll explain how to use 1.1 portraits, with this screenpack. It's nothing difficult, and you'll be able to use 1.1 portraits, that for some portraits are much more accurate.

Take a 1.1alfa 4 leak.
Take the NoZ WarZone zip.
Put all the data of WarZone screenpack, put it in the 1.1 alfa 4 data folder, erase everything.
Keep the 1.1 exe, launch it, it should be works.

You have to follow a little procedure to make them appear on Mugen. First, you have to set on mugen.cfg the system on "OpenGL" and not directx or Windowsrenderer.
Then on FF, when you open a char, first set it on Mugen 1.1 (I put a screenshot on the site).
And it will works. .png files will be allowed. Non indexed.

So all he did was install war zone into mugen 1.1 and using png ports other that the Ken animation that is in the way of the port animations it looks the same to what NOZ made.
NOZ 1.0 version is still far better.

I agree! War zone looks fine in 1.0
And again all they (ppl) have to do is install war zone into 1.1 and run it with OPENGL and done

Well, the only value for WarZone about 1.1 is for the .png for portraits.
NoZ made a pretty great job with this pearl, colorloss is well hidden, so it's useless to think about converting it for 1.1..

And that's why NoZ is speaking about his next move, WarZone's sequel! ;)

Honestly it works well, because you still got the feeling to share your works with others, but you don't have the bad sides that comes sometimes.

Anyway, I hope you'll succeed finding your sharing method, NoZ!

But if you choose to release in private then that choice is yours we gotta respect it.

^ This though. I've been holding out on having a legitimately made mugen game for a long time waiting for Legacy. If people are mad about how you make your stuff, they can stay mad. Let them make their own screenpack.

What is the reason of making edits all the time? I can understand it if something is really old and get's an edit of something new is not needed. Are they thinking that they can gain the same respect as the original author doing most of the work? They are not even equal as the original author does everything. Do what you like NoZ. Your work inspires many there.

I have some issues trying to configure custom portraits on WarZone 1.1 Screenpack.

I noticed that the problem only occurs on Mugen 1.0 compatibility characters.

When I apply with Fighter Factory the custom portrait included in the screenpack, a few of these appear shrinked to 1/4 or more in the selection screen and in the Winner screen.

I tried to enlarge them with photoshop and fighter factory, but it doesn't work at all, like that size is locked

I tried to enlarge them by editing the "p1.face.scale" command in the system.def and it would work, but it also increases the size of other portraits, making them huge.

I can't find anything on the web that corresponds to my problem, please help...

That's happenning because the resolution picture had changed to PNG you'll need to create new pictures in photoshop with new resolution in PNG

Well, this time the problem seems to be the application of lifebar portraits

It was stated That portrait order goes as this:

9000.1 = big ports
9000.2 = win
9000.3 = lifebar <----------
Xaxis = 0
YAXIS = 0

Well, actually 9000.3 frame isn't working for me and 9000.0 select portrait frame continues to be used  ...

Any help fellas?!?

Please put a screenshot of said problem if it is of my original 1.0 screenshot, ill try to help,if it is of 1.1 then post your problem somewhere else

And btw, characters with a localcoord of

320x240= use the standard size ports
640x480= you must resize the finished port to the double of the original, example 200×200 then double would be 400x400
1280x720=you must rezise the triple in this case

For the port to look right it must be rezised after the port is finished,in the portraits folder look for the port of nu-13 of blazblue for reference, those have the the correct size of port for a 1280x720 character

You're using the default/no custom port version of the lifebar. Change it up to the one that uses custom port IIRC by changing it in the system.def file.

Understood, but...
I just found only this line:

portrait.spr = 9000,0 <-----
portrait.offset = 1,1
portrait.scale = .22,.25

That's for select screen portraits...
Which one for the lifebar?

Thank ya

Each area, E.G. Lifebar, Portrait, etc., should be easily noted in your .def file. From what I remember, I believe it's 9000,0 for Lifebars/Small Face Portraits and 9000,1 for Select Screen Portraits.

However, a lot of newer screenpacks use their own coordinates, so it goes back to looking for how they are listed.

You are using the normal small port life bars, use the custom lifebars for the custom ports

Excuse me.
Is there a way to make the big protraits in the intro screen appear randomly ? That would be awesome. They appear in the stated order in the System file.
Thanks for your time!

Please don't Necro-bump. But as far as I'm aware, no, MUGEN does not have that feature/capability.
