Title: Tempest account deletion
Post by: Iced on March 13, 2008, 01:13:09 am
So, Tempest set her account up for deletion, according to her, she is sick of having to take potshots from E and Jango and has better things to do than staying in a forum where this happens all the time, do we delete it, try to talk it out with her, try to talk to E?
Suggestions?

Trying to talk with [E] or Jango is a lost cause, that's just the way they behave. Admin action would be advised in order to straighten them up, but if we're going to do it for every person that drives other people away from the board, scolding people 24 hours a day wouldn't be enough.
Besides, I've noticed some kind of...uh, overreacting on TempesT's side, at least on one occasion. Surely Jango and [E] did their best to piss her off.

I'll say let's give her a few days to cool off the situation, and then we should try to talk her into ignoring said fellows. After all, it isn't the first time someone ragequits guild.

Already tried to talk it off with her, she says that not even kallera was as bad as the guild gets with all the constant potshots.

I dunno, I kinda agree with you tho, there must be something that can be done but we cant be babysitting everyone on the guild as well.
About the comment that sparked this, [E] was indeed being an ass, he could have corrected her without telling her that she was "once again talking about things that she doesnt know" that kind of comments generate a bad general mood, specially if someone does his best to keep correcting someone else.

No, that's not how ignore works. You choose who you want to ignore, and you cannot see THEIR posts, personally I've been secretly hoping there was a SMF Mod for this and I'm glad there is.
Possible solution.

I think this one belongs here, being out in the open would make her look too attention seeking and whatnot.
Having a word with [E] anyway.

after thinking about it i don't see what talking to e about it would do. i don't think e's going to post an apology topic or anything like that.

i say we just delete it. it's not like she can't make a new one later on
EDIT: it's done

What where did that EDIT come from?!

I should have written and previewed my message to a user who no longer exists in the forum instead of Notepad. I ought to do that next time, despite timeouts and all.

Here's what I just finished writing instead of preparing for a job interview tomorrow, because this is so much more interesting and important:

Sepp said:
You're the only one I ever saw (and expect to see) doing "Look at me, I Am A W-O-M-A-N! Means I have a v-a-g-i-n-a, get wet on occasions, and while I'm at it, the color of my vibrator is such-and-such :)" numbers and getting away with them well-liked by most instead of being ridiculed or flooded to death with messages at every turn. You always seemed to take effortless care of most offenses directed your way by the few envious ones and---also being genuine and playful---were very hard to hit in the first place.

I summed those impression up with "She plays well" last year (not in the acting but in a "playing the game" sense); you seem a natural and likely to succeed and have fun in any online community of your choosing.

Yeah, that were two paragraphs of things you're probably well aware of. Actual message content follows:

If most of the fun Guild as an environment had to provide is gone by now and you're moving on for that or similar general, overall reasons, good bye.

If you intend to go because of the attacks [E] and Jango increasingly made a habit of theirs recently, I ask you to reconsider and call to mind what kinds of persons they are and why a few posts of these two possibly envious losers should affect you in such a way.

They're not enjoying immunity or special status and especially [E] has been drawing negative attention to himself since a few days before his lectures on the finer points of hentai now, because he seems to be in a phase of frustration, boredom or depression that results in frantic posting and, um, trying too hard. The latter is something I sometimes fear Jango was cursed with at birth, but he's going to be hit over the head as well and then it'll be tolerable for a while again and in the meantime most feel what's up or know them long enough and can, in a way, disregard their antics.

This message is a result of the staff question of whether you should be "allowed" to delete your account and probably superflous, but since the discussion came up, I'm hereby asking for confirmation from you before approving the deletion.

So, when you hit that button and agreed to all the warning pop-ups and messages inquiring whether you were REALLY SURE, were you REALLY SURE and do you still really WANT TO HAVE YOUR ACCOUNT DELETED?

... *some smiley*

die die die! =D

Edit:

I was anxious and off-balance at the time of this message and need to apologize to [E] and especially Jango for the above paragrahps concerning them.

Jango, I merely... tacked your name to that text---I hadn't even _seen_ you fighting against TempesT for myself, and the trying too hard inclusion stemmed from the faded impression I last discussed over half a year ago with you, amplified by my unrelated irritation into that baseless statement.

I overstepped similarly regarding the rest and [E], and I feel really shabby for having written it, something that ought not to happen even on a bad day. That condescending tone is... really not the kind of person I want to be or even just sound like talking about anybody as if I had some authority to be contemptuous.

[E], you _are_ a positive figure to me that I actually respect (more than the next-best guy, and what I wrote doesn't even give you that much basic respect...), for many reasons, among them your help introducing ArtMoney to the community, the Velocity Calculator, Terry, and the fact that you didn't think I was out of my mind with the forum ideas and bits of humor and---

Suppose you wrote something while you were stressed and so on, silly things. Do you apologize the moment you notice, even if that's when you lack sleep and possibly eloquence, or do you draw it out, letting the bad thing & wrong impression stand for longer!

This then was option 1, awkwardly worded and all. I'm sorry for those remarks, expressed in that manner they were furtive, unjustified and inappropriate. I could have gotten to the core of what I meant to convey in the PM in a fairer and balanced way with a little more effort instead of employing insulting hyperbole.

I think she has a point. I asked Sepp what he thought about [E]'s trying-too-hard syndrome just a week ago, too. Didn't talk to anyone else because I wasn't here for the week anyways, and Sepp said he didn't think it was too bad.

Also, making people aware they are drawing negative attention does help often enough.

Oh Im not sure if I had made it clear, but I did talk to [E] about this as well, he knows what he is doing is attracting negative attention and he agreed that his "there you go again like always making presumptions" was avoidable.
