Title: JNP's Thread
Post by: JustNoPoint on September 16, 2015, 11:15:44 pm
Some of the hidden tags we have on the forum are
[nobbc][/nobbc]
example
The above tag is an example of me using said tag. This makes it so the forum doesn't convert the bbc to tags.

[motion]    [/motion]
Spoiler: Put these in motion tag (click to see content)

[avatar]imgurl.com[/avatar]
example: see my avatar [avatar]http://www.justnopoint.com/Stuff/Len.gif[/avatar]

[vriska][/vriska]

I'm giving an example of the vriska tag right now. 8ecause that's what goes here!

[acronym=text] text[/acronym]

WTF

Here I'm going to compile a list of things I need to do now that I have the ability to do more thanks to Val. I want to compile them so I don't forget.

Feel free to add your suggestions here.

TODO LIST
Fix membergroup post in INFORMATION board
Update the board icons.

You may suggest smileys

That's not something I can do myself so for future reference throw those in Val's thread.

However I caught him online and he says he'll add it. Should be doing so now.

Just saw the YouTube button, my only gripe is that it's icon isn't showing. Other than that, love it and the new fixed emoticon window.

I'm eating dinner. Someone find me a youtube icon to put in that broken image location and I'll upload. Val was leaving me to put the image in the directory.

I forgot all about the motion tag.

Put that in there too Val =p

I'm headed to add the YT icon now.

Can you make the motion tag work like the smiley pop up and display everything in it?

About to work on some of this now.

Updated the top post to show all the hidden tags on the forum. These have been added to the FAQ as well.

Can someone make the n image for the motion tag? It seems to be broken. I assume it's for neutral?

Also are we finally going to do something about that logo because all the whited-out bits look so sloppy.
Give me a fixed version and I can replace it.

Updated all the Filter icons. Moved Portraits Icon. Removed the full game hi res icons. Keeping the Lifebar icons as they've been used fairly decently.
If you still see the old ones try to refresh.

I added these icons
(http://mugenguild.com/forum/Themes/mfg/images/post/snd.png)

But for some reason it's not saying they are uploaded when I try to add them in the admin panel. Which is odd cause they're right there. In the same folder as the rest of the icons. And the old ones updated when I added them in so IDK what's going on. I sent a message to Val asking him.

Also it appears as though the smileys folder isn't in the same folder he gave me access to. So hopefully we can resolve that too.
I did add all the smileys we currently have to the pop up box so something is finally finished on the user end at least!

Once Val gets the filter icons figured out I'll ask him to organize them more along the lines of this
(http://i.imgur.com/op4llmE.png)
in your releases and found releases

Question: What fonts do the motions used? I might make one for the "n" image.

edit: Well uhh... made one. (http://i.imgur.com/xW1tNhE.gif) (Not sure if this is any helpful, but it's simple enough, since "neutral" is pretty much nothing on the directional command).

It's better than a broken image. I'll use it. It'll be a few hours till I get home and can upload it though.

In most cases smileys must fit the style of the MFG smileys. Specific exceptions allowed. Like :mrox: that has story behind it.
Title: Re: JNP's Thread
Post by: JustNoPoint on September 18, 2015, 03:13:19 pm
Okay Valodim fixed the issue with me adding new icons. So a sound icon was added to Edits and Addons 1.0+ and Filter tags were added to the MUGEN Class board.

Val kinda vanished so we're still pending my ability to upload Smileys (He said he was looking into it) and for Valodim to rearrange the filter icons in 1.0+ releases and found releases boards. (He'd previously told me that wouldn't be an issue after I finished it all)

Also to note I saw this in the admin panel
Allow boards to be ignored Checking this option will allow users to select boards they wish to ignore.

So let me know how this works. We have a lot of boards and if you find you never use a board this will allow you to hide it and customize your MFG experience. From what I gather anyway.

Hope it works well. I assume it will not hide the posts from them in the Newest Post area or if you check What's New but I dunno

Also replaced the n icon in the motions tag

EDIT: You'll see that mrox and quit smileys are currently broken. Val copied the smileys forum but forgot to change the directory it looks in. He had to take off though so To Be Continued

I want to remind all the users that are making things or learning HOW to make things to give ideas on things that might assist learning and creation in general. How can stickies be improved? How can the forums be less overwhelming? How can we organize things better?

As you are using the forums to aid you? Note anything that you feel could be improved.

Most of my changes now are coming from me building my own characters. From things I think would aid ME as well. I just try to share the info by making tutorials and such as I move forward because I wish someone had already done these things. We all learn in different manners so what works for me may not work for you. So be sure to express your thoughts and I'll weigh in on it and see if it may be worth a try. I don't mind ideas to flop. It's the process to see what sticks and what doesn't that helps us evolve.

This is why I made MUGEN Class. The Sprite Projects board. The MFG SF project and the upcoming new tutorials and possible boards I intend to make in the near future. (http://mugenguild.com/forum/topics/an-idea-aid-creation-and-motivate-users-168869.0.html)

Heck if you fear posting your idea in public PM me. I totally believe in the proverb about teaching a person to fish will feed them a lifetime. But I think if he has access to big nets and boats he can catch even more fish for life too!!!

Hmm...must have somehow missed that part...but thanks.
In most cases smileys must fit the style of the MFG smileys. Specific exceptions allowed. Like :mrox: that has story behind it.
Hmm...those simleys don't really fit the graphic style of the other MFG smileys, sadly, but maybe they are "historical" enough to be warranted an addition or something.
Eh, I will just suggest two smileys now, and I would like to know what you guys think of my suggestion and how I could possibly improve said suggestions (replace ";" with ":" for those smileys):
(http://i.imgur.com/N7Sk4m6.png)    ;feels; (ripped from a sprite by Jango)
(http://i.imgur.com/NQOVJV6.png)    ;kappa;

I mainly choose those two because of how easily recognizable those two are, and both have their own share of functions (like the TwitchKappa marking comments that are sarcastic but don't necesarily look sarcastic).
Anyway, would like to know if those two are good enough. Thanks in advance!

You DO know that the twitch EULA explicitly prohibits the kappa smilie from being used off-site, and that they have gone after other message boards for incorporating it, right?

Yeah, those don't have a history within MUGEN like the quit and mrox smileys that don't fit. The requirements for a non standard smiley will be much more difficult and subjective.

I don't mind adding up to 2 rows of icons. After that anything else I'd add would be shown in profile. I'm going to a friend's to play Mario Maker so give me 16x16 icons for anything you're wanting me to add. That'll speed up the process.

Not sure if it's alright to link from a website called "softicon", but here you go: Twitter (http://www.softicons.com/social-media-icons/flat-gradient-social-icons-by-guilherme-lima/twitter-icon), Tumblr (http://www.softicons.com/social-media-icons/classy-social-media-icons-by-jason-larose/tumblr-icon), AIM (http://www.softicons.com/system-icons/human-o2-icons-by-oliver-scholtz/apps-im-aim-icon)

You can use any of the youtube icons from the previous posts as a profile thing (unless you want to use the ones already set as the youtube tag button).

Tumblr icon is giving me YouTube stuff, and if I click it it just brings me to the home page here. Twitter seems is fine.

Any chance of adding this emoji -> :stare:

EDIT: Double checked the Tumblr thing, yep if I click on the YouTube icon that should be the Tumblr one, it brings me to the Forum's homepage but with the link to my Tumblr on the side. This is what I mean:

Nice. My only complaint now is the twitter/tumblr handles don't have something like: tumblr url - tumblr thing or twitter handle - twitter thing. They're practically identical as is lol
Title: Re: JNP's Thread
Post by: JustNoPoint on September 22, 2015, 08:36:39 pm
Tumblr and Twitter both only need the name put in. The description says "name only". I figured that would be more clear than "handle"

You can't plug a tumblr name into the twitter field and it work. Unless the names are the same on both accounts.

Skype icon lacks transparancies btw.

Also YT icon goes to (example) https://www.youtube.com/channel/PerryMason123 where it should go to https://www.youtube.com/user/PerryMason123 instead. This causes it to go to a nonexistent channel according to YT.

I'll look for a Skype icon with transparency. I made it so you put your YouTube channel not the user. That's why me and Xan were talking about the gibberish earlier as it displayed the channel url which is numbers and letters.

I'm not a big you tube person so which do people prefer to use? Channel or username?

Got a hold of Val and this is finally fixed.

He also sorted the icons for 1.0+ releases and found releases so they should be a lot easier to deal with now!

All that's left on this list is to update board icons but at the moment it's not a huge priority to me what with the MUGEN Class and my WIPs currently but I'll get to it soon.

Hope I'm not too critical on the skype icon, but the one we have as of currently has a black outline (along with some parts cutted off). May I suggest looking for a good one without black outlines and that's not cut off? (The previous icon was fine, aside from the "no transparency" thing)

I didn't see anything to tweak that but I may still find something. I'll keep looking.

I did find something to hopefully make the post length limit not as bad.
"Maximum allowed post size
0 = no maximum, but hard coded limit of 1 MBytes will take effect"

It does.  I was able to combine all three of my posts into one 2 of my posts into one.  It didn't tell me I couldn't add any more, and it cut short.  Still, it's more than I had.

Thanks.

yesterday I reported a post but the report came out twice: http://mugenguild.com/forum/topics/projects-re-nappa-170114.0.html and http://mugenguild.com/forum/topics/projects-re-nappa-170113.0.html

Today the same thing happened:
http://mugenguild.com/forum/topics/sprite-projects-re-super-vegito-z2-inspired-2015-170145.0.html and http://mugenguild.com/forum/topics/sprite-projects-re-super-vegito-z2-inspired-2015-170146.msg2179225.html#new

Why is that? I just reported once.

It's more than that.

When GOD964's post is in the thread it's a double post. When I delete the duplicate it deletes both posts and displays HQ's post in thread. GOD964's becomes a single post in the dump. I move the single post back and HQ's is gone but the GOD964 double post is back o_O

I wonder if they are related. I'll have to try and get Val to take a look.

So now that I'm learning more and more coding I've been trying to think of more ways to improve finding and sharing knowledge around the forums. I have some ideas but no real plan on which way or what might be the best way to organize.

Some ideas are
Make filter icons for
Sprite making tutorials
CS tutorials
Data Mining tutorials
Sprite ripping tutorials
Character creation tutorials
Stage Creation tutorials
Motif creation tutorials
Coding tutorials

I considered combining the Code Library with the Tips-n-tuts board

But I'm sorta leaning on something from the following instead

Idea 1:
Make game or series specific filter tags
IE: These could be used to make more specific code threads. If I went this way non specific stuff would probably be put in the tips/tuts board with it's own filter icon.
For example: Street Fighter Alpha tag would have character or system threads

So there would be a thread just called Ryu or SFA Ryu or something like that.
In this thread a user could post coding snippets for Ryu's attacks.
A system thread could have code snippets for the mechanics of SFA games.

Idea 2:
Move specific mega threads and/or maybe filters?

This one would be much more generic. Threads are meant to be added to over time.
Examples:
A thread for projectiles. Like, post 1 could be a simple fireball like Ryu's. Post 2 could be one like Geese's. Maybe an air fireball. Sakura's charge fireball.
Or if they shouldn't be mega threads perhaps a projectiles filter tag.

In game mechanics thread(s) and/or filters.

Before match, dragon punch type moves, movement , etc.

Probably just some filter icons for this idea would work.

Ideas, suggestions?

To note that I intend to start adding to said boards more myself soon. I'd like to post and explain things like corner push coding, buffering systems, groove set ups, etc
Title: Re: JNP's Thread
Post by: hatter on December 01, 2015, 11:32:15 pm
Maybe try a mix of Ideas 1 and 2, like: a thread for projectile moves/anti air/dash attacks (does Tatsumaki Senpyukyaku fall under this category?), and have threads for attacks like........ Akuma's Teleport or the Shun Goku Satsu, or Ryu's Evil Transformation from MvC one or something or the D-Attack feature from NGBC (that is if someone ever made it, just an example here). Make it a mix between general threads and specific threads, IMHO.

Actually all the ideas you have so far sound awesome! I'm really excited to see how you plan to go about all of this. Going to actually keep an eye on this thread, hopefully I can contribute to something in my field! :)

In either event I'll need to have a lot of stuff prepared to share so I can get the ball rolling.  This stuff isn't going to all of a sudden get ppl more interested by itself.

Even considering some kind of quarterly "Best of" board and/or award for the most useful contributions to the boards.

Also I need to add an sff/air filter icon to Resource Releases I think
Title: Re: JNP's Thread
Post by: JustNoPoint on February 12, 2016, 04:07:32 pm
Added a new Filter Icon and sticky to the Resources releases board. Think of it as similar to how MFFA has their char specific threads for MUGEN releases except in sprite form.

What is the Character Sprites Archive and what does the icon mean?

This is an idea to expand the Sprite Expansion thread (http://mugenguild.com/forum/topics/spritesheet-expansion-thread-146532.0.html) and make it easier to find sprites and edits and to keep them all in 1 location.

Each thread should be dedicated to a single character and a single style. For example Ryu could have a thread dedicated to collecting his SFA, Marvel style sprites. He could have a CVS styled thread, a SF3 thread, etc.

Anyone may add sprites and edits they have found or made. Be sure to credit if possible.

I'll look weekly to check and see what threads are added with this icon and update this list. I will also back up everything to my server so if something goes down it won't be lost.

Feedback, questions or concerns?

To simplify this I'm not going to list an order. Use ctrl+F to see if the character you want is listed yet.

Blackheart - Marvel VS style (http://mugenguild.com/forum/topics/blackheart-marvel-vs-style-172201.0.html)

Don't think you have to be as exhaustive as I was either. If someone just had some edits they want to throw to start a thread that's fine. Either another or myself can simply add sprite packs, etc to the thread later.

I do figure I'll be the primary person making these threads but hopefully it can catch on better :)

While I'm being annoying, should Cybaster's THE ULTIMATE STAGE TUTORIAL (http://mugenguild.com/forum/topics/the-ultimate-stage-tutorial-104471.0.html) even still be stickied, since it just links to the other sticky which has the ACTUAL tutorial in it? the other tutorial in the topic Tamez linked to no longer exists as well since they shut down PhantomGs forum.

Well, you may or may not have known but I've been semi away from admin work a bit. Or at least a much smaller capacity than usual. I was wrapping up my 1st release for a X-mas deadline which I am happy to say I achieved. And while I still have projects to work on I won't be spending every free moment on them.

This means I'm going to try to do some stuff around here again. I have some things already in the works, I need to finish adding all those penguin smileys cause we all know that's priority essentials! We will be opening our own Archive soon that will be similar to MFFA's mega threads and will actually host offline works.

I intend to get a hold of Valodim again and get him to finally show me how to upgrade the forum. We need more social features, notifications, and general phone support. We already dabble in an aged and dying engine/genre. Might as well not do the same in how we communicate!

I want to get back involved in MUGEN Class. I have good stuff to share there with my new knowledge.

And I want to expand what we discuss to be more than just MUGEN. I think we should push support for Ikemen more and merge the Ikemen projects, releases, etc with the MUGEN one. Currently we use filter Icons so they would get their own. If I can get us upgraded I hope to get rid of icons and go to a full tag system.

Once @Achilleon: releases his fighter maker project I'd like to integrate it as well.

I believe this is the right place to post this regarding some issue with the avatars:
i had the same problem when i tried to update my avatar a few weeks ago and noticed what the problem was. if you try to use a link with "https://" at the begining it won't display your avatar so you have to change it to just "http://"

so in this case what you have to do is change:
https://orig00.deviantart.net/c7a6/f/2017/036/b/b/bb357aee7968893286c6dc6f576a4479-daxzu3j.png

and it should work, try it out.
