you complete douche.

Talk about insecurities.

Apparently you're new to the Internet or something

But yeah, keep acting like I'm frothing with rage because someone 'said something I don't agree' instead of responding in kind to insults...

Maybe cut the intellectual dishonesty out, too? Note how you've turned this into an attack on me because, as I've already observed, you lost the argument. It's not clever, it's just sad.

@Niitris: I'm not accusing you of being uncivil and I don't care if you are. My point is that 'shitty' and 'trash' aren't meaningful descriptors. You're just saying that you don't like something. You have to substantiate that if you want to be taken seriously. As I've already said, I don't care about Breitbart, I care about people shutting things they disagree with down for bullshit reasons.

I take it nobody's going to actually talk about the article itself.

It's also meaningless to say "lol you use these words, I'm gonna ignore the entire point."

I will ironically admit that it ties into the clickbait article point. The difference is that I'm not a professional, I don't have anything to lose outside of some internet nerds disagreeing. Big news websites lose an entire plethora of possible readers and revenue. And it's power as a legitimate source in select forum boards.

You've contradicted yourself. Byakko showed those headlines and that by itself wouldn't have been too bad if you still defended them. May not be popular but it'd stayed consistent with your stance. But then you said to ignore the crappy headlines and read the article itself. That'd imply the article changed the context of the headline into something different and a more popular read/opinion piece.

Which would be a bait and switch and that's pretty terrible. I guess it's possible you like bait and switch articles but I'm sure that tactic is enourmously unpopular.

OT:
Not much to really discuss I'd imagine. It's pretty much expected anymore. Time to stop making fun of tin foil hat people.

I didn't contradict myself, you're missing what I'm saying, but I'm not sure how to get it across and I'm tired at tilting at windmills. I'll give it one last shot but I'm pretty done with this topic.

There are two different reasons to dismiss something that are getting tangled up here. The first is a source utterly failing at journalism, posting untrue things, lacking ethics and integrity, etc. The second is a source saying things that you don't like, expressing opinions that you are so against you think they shouldn't even be spoken.

Let's take 'Birth Control Makes Women Unattractive And Crazy' as an example. This may be something you don't want expressed, but until you scrutinize the argument, you can't dismiss it out of hand. It is possible for someone to correctly argue that birth control makes women unattractive and crazy. This isn't reflective of a hateful ideology, of untruthfulness, of anything of that sort if the argument actually shows it to be true. It is certainly right to dismiss an outlet for pushing propaganda, but you cannot assume that something is propaganda just by a headline. Unpopular things are sometimes true, and we have to analyze arguments to see when this is.

I'm not talking about baits-and-switches (how would you even pluralize that). I never was. I'm saying you can't dismiss a premise unless you examine the argument behind it and conclude that the premise is unsupported, and therefore ideologically-motivated, dishonest, hateful, etc.

'Birth Control Makes Women Unattractive And Crazy'

come now, this headline is marinated in bias and editorial(unprofessional) language; it encourages readers to take a set stance before they even read the article
it really doesn't matter what the article says, that headline is enough to discredit the author

Love that we've managed to go 3 pages without even really discussing the issue at hand
nationwide domestic spying programs are a non-partisan issue folks

A headline is never enough to discredit an author.

Especially not when this particular author has stated many times that his underlying goal is to fight against limits being placed on speech by taking deliberately provocative positions but backing them up with sound facts and arguments.

You can't exactly complain about not being taken seriously when you use sensationalist headlines like that, that's basically the boy who cried wolf.

If all the headlines were like that, you'd have a point. Cherrypicking deliberately sensationalized opinion columns, mostly by one author, to cast doubt an entire outlet is a bit much.

so...if I was a journalist and wanted to be successful and provocative, I could headline an article with a racial slur

[insert racial slur]s cause X amount of property damage per year!

but then I'd back it up with actual statistics on the issue in order to back up my statement

Nobody's using racial slurs here. That's a pretty clear indication of bigotry, and can be removed without affecting the underlying point.

If you wanted to write an article about black people causing a disproportionate amount of property damage, I'm fine with that provided the facts are accurate. You would need to compare it to other groups in a way that makes statistical sense, and not just present the per year figure without anything to compare it to.

Wait that was NOT his point in the slightest his whole point was, as everybody else has been trying to tell you, that if a news website almost consistently makes up its stories and then gets one right will still make people turn their nose to it cause their known for cockamamie articles anyway whether they have proper statistics/evidence or not. Also click bait cause that's still not getting through I guess.

Went ahead and removed the Breitbart link due to the site's reputation and the controversy its caused in the past few pages. I always try to make it personal policy to include at least two sources of a news story in these types of threads whenever I can. Due to this, the Breitbart article was the only other source I could find at the time, yet a poor choice to include on my end. My apologies.

Byakko is saying that no one on MFG should link to the site due to its headlines.
No, I'm saying it due to its content in general. The headlines are the example because it is more than enough to showcase said content, because the content is the same as the headlines. You think the actual content is different ? You go on and read them and tell me how different they are.

He already did since the very first post, but Snakebyte is just raging at this particular aspect of the discussion.
If I struggled to the end of my determination, to the end of my way of life with my followers, if the result is ruin, then this ruin is inevitable. Grieve. Shed tears. But you cannot regret.

Regardless of the merits of Breitbart, I really feel that topic ought to be relocated to another thread at this point.

As for the actual topic of the thread, this is... certainly something. The FBI has come under fire for using child porn websites in the past.

On an unrelated note, Russian hackers have the ability to plant CP on people's computers...
