2nd beta released! Still WIP

What's left to be done:
- Various K.O animations. (D.K.O, Time Up. Draw).
- Continue screen.
- Game Over Screen.
- Polish the sound design maybe.

I would love a 640x480 version that didn't use custom ports, IMO, but this is fine.

640x480? Why degrading the resolution. But i could try to make a version that doesn't use custom portraits "even thou i'm not a fan of that xD"

Not to "wishlist", but any chance that you may make a 640x480 ver of the lifebar? (custom port is fine, since I'm training myself to make some).

Other than that, these look really good for a design.

As I said earlier, I'm not big fan of 640x480, but I can try converting them afterwards, or whithin the proces. I dun kno :D

To the ones requesting 640x480 or non custom portraits! They WILL include a pack with a bunch of premade portraits, templates and stuff like that so don't worry about that. I'm just not sure about the 640x yet.

That looks pretty good so far. The only thing I'd do if you can is downsize them a little bit; they take up a hefty chunk of the screen.

Other than that though, not bad at all

But for now, it'll be without simul lifebars... I'm sorry, the simul lifebars are designed, but when i try to to put em in-game, they overlay the regular lifebars even in arcade. I'll try to fix that :D

Exactly, that's what i'm working on, so that in survival it says round 3 and in arcade it says final round

Fixed... So far, haven't got the final round trigger working yet "haven't started making it yet, but It'll come I hope"

Oh trust me, with enough digging (Months) and resources...you can get 200 good characters. I have about 180 atm and they are all HQ characters that are very well made. And im very picky with Mugen.

Lel, just take alot of patience and knowing where to look.

Oh some feedback, i think you night wanna make the Combo Font alot smaller. The way it is now, it takes up about 1/3 of the screen when it shows up.

Also as for your template, your not really clear on how to use it.

I.E: Where do we put our own renders in so that it fits inside that port box? Theres nothing to locks the image in. And Copying/Pasting the Layer Style doesnt do anything at all either.


Edit: I figured it out, but its very complicated, you have to disable the effects on the one u have in, and then u have to use the Quick Select to outline the border of the image...but its not accurate because it keeps cutting off specific parts of the image so it takes a while...afterwards u have to inverse the selection, go to ur new image and delete. It shud fit now and then just Copy Style from existing + Paste onto yours. However if you had a big image it will also show black borders around the entire canvas so you have to disable it again...drag it and find the extra parts and delete them...then SOMEHOW (it doesnt snap for some reason) position it manually in the center. THEN re-enable the effects...done.

BUT after ALL OF THAT...

Its too small...

Ehh, about the small portraits, I find that SUPER weird, cause I use that template for my Chars, and they look like they do on the screenshots...

2. The way to do it, you found the slow and complicated way yourself ;)
Here's what to do...
On the layer, there's a preview image. Right click that and select "select pixels".
Then go to your characters image and then Ctrl+C and the Ctrl+Alt+V and remove the old layer, so you only have the portrait left ;)

Ps. I'll reupload the lifebars with all the you will need. Then you'll have 'em for when further updates come.

Any ideas for the powerbars, you can't really see what power level you're at? I'm thinking like a little black box beside the bar, but some characters like DBZ chars or so have like 10 or 20 power gauges. So i'm kinda trying to make it fit for as many characters as possible. ^^

Dat character select screen tho... thank you for a more "normal" number of slots, so far i'm loving the concept and the style of your work so far, but the stage select? it's like k6666orochi said, it's going to f*ck shit up when you play with a friend. Maybe add a space in the selection screen or maybe make the stage select fonts smaller? i don't know, i just know that so far i'm loving what i see. Keep it up dude!

I'm not too fond of the big P1 & P2.
You can place them above the character where you have the select your character scrolling. You can give it that nice blue gradient you did for the names and do the Same for the p1 but write it out player 1 & player 2. You can even make that blue gradient glow. Just to make your Select screen be a bit more alive.
I cam do a little PS example once I'm off work if you like.

And where you wrote CHARACTER SELECT you can add your scrolling text it will look much nicer you can go crazy and and add a few quotes my pump people up.

For the versus screen you can even recycle the select screen where your small ports go make that steal slot place holder solid and you can add your "VERSUS" texts there typed downward.

If I get more ideas I'll shoot them your way.

Thanks for the feedback,  man. I would love that. I personally thought I could make a shadow like gradient behhind the P1 and P2, to make it easier to see on light portrait. But thanks for the support.

Why did you change the font? Oh nvm, Great thinking there. But about this p1-p2 going on,
I would with pleasure remove them, but my source file is kinda fucked=can't open it up.
So I'm just glad that I saved the templates for the portraits, overlays and all that stuff. But Damn...
I'm still working on the mode select thou.
I'll keep the Idea in mind, but you can keep your psd, I'll recreate it myself ;)

Maybe I could just simply remove the p1 and p2 completely like in tekken?

It's not that it's to much work at all, I just don't know how I would layout 100 character slots within this style.
It would've been easier if my select screen was squarish, but it's a tall rectangle. I could try do something similar to
NOZ's old EOF screenpack, but again. I dunno.

This is why I haven't updated or released any links yet. I wasn't completely satisfied (It basically broke) with the old select screen. So here's some idea I got.

Dude, The picture you're referring to... That's the mode selection. NOT the actual portraits X)

I've thought about the custom stage font but i'm not sure yet... Maybe it'll become an optional feature.

The P2 part is too dark, because the portrait is displayed on the clear part of the background. Do you plan to animate the background? If yes, it'll solve the issue.

The P2 part is too dark, because the portrait is displayed on the clear part of the background. Do you plan to animate the background? If yes, it'll solve the issue.

I forgot to move the background image to the right.
But the background is a still image for now. But I am strongly thinking about the transition between versus and battle. It would be sweet if the versus could open like
a gate and show the first round :D

I didn't think about Legacy for a single second but, I get what you mean. ;) I'll fix the background and see what I can do about the rest.

Not at all. The point of this is that the big portrait blends into the background.  The face of the character is always shown. So the character is always noticeable and never misleading, if that makes any sense? :)

So yeah, I kinda noticed this HUGE flaw with the "select screen" design. The portratis are way too big... And I don't know if I like the smaller ones.
The lower portrait, kinda looks flattened or squeed in. Where do I go from here?

Why is this a problem? If it's going to be easy to actually create portraits for this screenpack, it shouldn't be a treasure hunt to find images big enough for this obnoxious HD nonsense.

So... Help? ._.

You took the Capcom huge ass ones, it's normal you had no issue! :) But now try it with 600x600 picture with a full body, it'll looks bad.
Well to be honest for me it"s not a problem as I redo absolutely all my pictures so I basically can get everything good the way it's now.
But for all the others..

I'm thinking of a way to make the gaps between the hexagons glow in a pattern or something. But that will make the screenpack heavy as fuck.

Normally palettes work with indexed PCX, but the colour table gets mixed up everytime.
If you know how to work with palettes and stuff, I would appreciate if you would teach me.

All the tutorials on youtube apparently are too "complicated" for me.

ah ah I was never able to get the colour table to stay in order, or change a fucking color. Each time it doesn't work the good way with me too... I think it was to remove the pink color on the sprites and even that was a fail for me so you know! :D

I will try to work as much on this as possible, but work is taking up 1/2 of my daily hours. ;)
The ending is not as blurry as before though, I've created a foundation I can build all my menus around.

I guess you can say I am satisfied with the art style... FINALLY xD

I could animate the background.

It could be:
- Moving spotlights.
- A wave of hexagons.
- The background getting lighter and darker (Fading) "Super simple effect to do"

What do you think?
I could also leave the background still and animate some of the other elements instead.
Like the slots glowing in some kind of patttern.

It may be better once i use my usual stages with static zoom, but they just seem kinda big to me. But then again its probably just my personal preference. I love the lifebars design and animations a helluva lot but they just seem big. Its just me being weird :P

I get what you mean, but my only solution would be moving the powerbars to the bottom, but that looks a bit weird.
Else try turning off zoomin and tell me if that helps. :)

It looks better zoomed out, but i'll just live with it, its kinda growing on me. And yeah i really don't like bottom powerbars, all they do is obscure the fight.

Well their well deserved, i've been desperately searching for a unique and stylish SP that is very light on the load and has amazing looking port designs. After all this progress i've been following of this, im so impressed by how far this has come. Seriously, feel proud of this. I can't wait till this is finished!

And thanks! I've made Saber, Saber Nero and Rin Tohsaka so far ~

Also it took some tweaking but i basically used the Lifebar Font for the Stage Font, and then had to modify the pos which took ALOT of trial and error.

Lookin sleek GD! May actually use em now. Looks MUCH better :D

Even though you only released a beta, it's still what i mainly use now. Glad to see your back to workin on this as it's seriously one of my favorite SP's of all time. Lightweight, sleek, simple yet fancy, it's just amazing.

That Idea has been a must-do in my brain since I changed the design last time. I FINALLY pulled my ass together and made something xD

I'm Gonna use the same background animation as for the select screen

I FINALLY got the time to figure out why the animations in the screenpack didn't  appear. So I'm back on track (Still on half-time because of my job).
