Capcom and SNK Playmore won't sue M.U.G.E.N

Well, probably not.

Because this was often a point of discussion, I emailed Capcom and SNK Playmore early in 2007 for what their take on the legality of fan-made, non-profit games (like M.U.G.E.N) was with respect to their intellectual properties. Initially, SNKP said that any use of IPs without written consent was prohibited--regardless of whether someone would profit or not from it. I announced this reply to the community and SNKP was treated to a flurry of responses from angered Mugenites. SNKP gave "permission" to the M.U.G.E.N community ~~to let chaos reign~~ to release derivative works to the public with the stipulation that no profit will be generated. Capcom's response was kind of generic and just reused their response they give for fanart.

Despite the fact that we loosely have "permission" to release non-profit, copyright derivative works from these companies, as a community, we don't care about the tired discussion about how M.U.G.E.N is violating copyrights and such. In any case, we honor the companies' request to keep copyright derivate works free of charge in M.U.G.E.N. This includes disallowing certain links in the forum that violates this and facilitating the shutdown of eBay auctions selling M.U.G.E.N games.

You realize both companies browse the Mugen communities looking for ideas.

SNK should really incorporate some of the Kula clones into their canon.

that is kinda true ill bet my bottem dollar that they do scour the mugen community to get ideas for their own characters

further more i wonder what their take on MUGEN originals would be like

DragonClaw, thor, the DC characters and so on

some time ago, people were wondering if SVC's Violent Ken were based on Mugen's Evil ken.

and yeah... stuff 100% original like dragon claw they can't touch. but thor and alike... not problem in there, since we used their sprites to make them in the first place.

and yes. even frankensprited characters are still considered copyright from the original companies. at least that is what i understood from the e-mail i sent to capcom. (back then i wanted to use frankenspritting to sprite some original concepts of mine for a full game. so i sent an e-mail asking who the copyright would belong, me or capcom).

WE AINT TALKIN STUPID CAPCOM AND SNK ARE IN A CONSPIRACY.

They may make a snk vs capcom 3 but I hily doubt it from Mugen.

For instance you have SF3 Evil Ryu going up against Terry 2003.

Or you may have Eyedol going up against Kintaro.

They are trying to make stuff better from our ideas. and sprite sets.
