I liked KI too...
Okay... I liked Killer Instinct 2 for the arcade. But that was the only Killer Instinct I liked.
Also, by comparing each of the games (MK2 vs. KI2. IMO, it goes MK2>KI2>MK1>KI>KI Gold.), Mortal Kombat had a very unique roster.
I loved the character designs of B.Orchid (Black/Asian female who may have been the co-main character), Glacius (Killer Instinct 2 Glacuis was an awesome sight to behold), and Spinal (Soul Stealing Pirate Skeleton... nothing generic about that).
Then, besides Jago (weird suited Ninja... I don't know what Jago's designers were thinking with that getup), the rest are GENERIC. But, yeah, if Rare ever used the characters again, the three I liked should be the ones used.
Also, KI was much better than Eternal Champions. THAT was crap, and I had the Sega CD one (the better one, may I add). But the track list for the Genesis game is better though. I still have the music from the game. Heh, heh, heh.
Plus, KI is not that brutal in today's standards. Pretty tame now. And DC's characters are better than KI's.
Finally, KI was, in truth, a large stepping stone for 3D models in 2D games (and other game improvements). It meant something for the future, like Weaponlord was pretty much the 2D ancestor of the modern Soul Calibur series (this game had so much influence brought to SC). Not like Eternal Champions, which was trying to cash in on Street Fighter 2 AND Mortal Kombat, without it's own originality. That's why KI is put in a higher level than EC.
But seriously, this is DC's chance to shine.
I hope this game doesn't fail like I think it will...
