Fable: The Journey.
Yeah, I'm a moron for playing this game, and my friend is a moron for buying this and playing it too. I should have expected something terrible after playing Fable 3. Let's just get this over with and give the feedback of 1-hour or more of gameplay. Or basically, how it went.
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty
- First thing we noticed, no co-op. Which was the reason he invited me. After all, we did play Fable 3 together in co-op, and he thought it would have an option for co-op. We checked and there wasn't. So we had to make a 1-hour/person like we did in Rise of Nightmares. I was the second to start, while grabbing some popcorn as if it was a movie.
- Second, which I honestly was surprised, though my friend wasn't really, is that the Kinect works while you're sitting for this game. I just can't picture a game like that to work while sitting. Or at least that's what I thought until...
- Third, the damn first 30 minutes are about riding a damn horse, so here you have the reason why you have to sit. Or rather, controlling a carriage. We decided to switch because my friend was getting insanely bored of that after 30 minutes. So it was my turn to suffer, in theory. Fortunately, after some time, I reached the "action" part.
- Fourth, here's the cruel reality we couldn't accept. It's an on-rails shooter. LOL, an on-rails shooter, and they're claiming it to be an RPG. Yeah, because RPGs are supposed to be completely linear, with no choice but to follow a predeterminated path and doesn't allow you to stop and do other things. Oh, and it's really immersive to shoot spells while sitting on a couch. Really immersive.
- Fifth, there's two spells, a thunder based attack and a push and/or drag attack, plus a counter one to reject attacks. And both suck. I mean, their effects suck, and they aren't impressive at all. The only thing I liked is that you can change the direction of the thunder while it's moving, but that's it. Also, the way you throw the thunder spell. You have to do it like if you're pushing the air. Wouldn't it make more sense to make it a continuous thunder attack and not a bolt of thunder that you throw like a baseball?
- After that, it was time for more riding *sigh* Then we reached more "action" part. I switched to give my friend the chance to try this. Obviously I tried the tutorial, and it wasn't impressive the combat. So my friend tried it in normal battles, and it's booooooooring as hell. Only thing he did was continuously throwing thunder attacks, until he reached one enemy that required the push and/or drag attack, which was as insanely easy to beat as the previous battles. And then we reached ANOTHER RIDING PART! And we quit there.
So basically, a disaster. I thought they couldn't make it worse than they did in Fable 3. I was wrong. I should have expected this though, after playing the Dragon's Quest Wii game, but at least that game was more exciting than that, even right at the beginning, and it felt more of an RPG than this Fable game. This one was a pain to play in 1 hour. And seriously, an on-rail shooter? Seriously?
You know what we did next? Play Time Crisis 4 with the Ps2 guns. That was a good way to forget about how horrible this game was in just one hour. I have to wonder, how is it possible to do it worse and worse in each release?
