Title: God of War (PS4)
Post by: Macaulyn97 on June 14, 2016, 04:58:28 am

Seriously, its just God of War, like the first God of War, but its not the first God of War, how do we call it now?

Reboot, huh...
So, that's why it's 16+ only imho...

Also, does someone else get the feeling that what was shown is just a prologue and we're actually gonna play with the brat when he grows up?

I guess it's just God of War because "God of War:  We Wrote Ourselves Into A Corner So Let's Just Start Over Only This Time He's a Viking I Guess?" didn't fit on the boxart.

So I've noticed when he raises his voice yelling at his bastard, there's a red meter growing, then diminishing as he calms down.  Ability to affect the cutscene through Kratos' temper?

this still looks more interesting, but its only because the series formula was far too played out by now.

Well...
At least, we'll kill new gods...
Besides, a such reboot is much better now, than a straight continue of GoW3. At least, series is saved for now from situarion to be called "releasing like by machine gun" we saw with Assassin's Creed series.

Killing gods was the entire problem with God of War 2 and 3.  They took a carefully crafted classical Greek tragedy and turned it into a mindless whirlwind of gratuitous murder and gore.

They couldn't even do a straight continuation of GoW3 because that game was literally about Kratos having a temper tantrum that destroys the entire world.

after rewatching the trailer i noticed there's alot of greek references in, the letters, the spartan rage, and the omega symbol. so yeah this is probably a sequel.
lets just call this god of war 4 for now.

yeah, they should have gone vikings since the start.

C'mon.
Aren't they showed is Olympus in the end.
So, what if new part is truly a sequel? Maybe about rebirth of the work or sonething...
But still, why did they changed Omega as logo? Omega is angry now. XD

They should call it John Kratos (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Wick), because I'm predicting a game about Kratos trying to live a subdued life until they kill that kid

Then he'll break open his floor and dig out his chains

I hope they will just kidnap that kid and put Kratos into underworld again, so we can call it "Kratos's Wrath".

Looks good. The old formula was getting stale. I want to know more but I see nothing in here that's bad. Won't necessarily be great, but not going to be a disaster based on what was presented, if that makes sense.

God of War Reboot - GOWR - pronounce it like "gore" with an extra u.

have you been living under a rock that you've never seen a sequel named like this before. it's fuckin dumb but it's definitely not a new thing

Instead of a remake, they should've just made GoW 4 and gone to Egypt

I was literally about to say "God of War: Ragnarök" lmao.

I T' S   N O T   A   R E B O O T.
If you guys played GoW2 and 3, then you must remember the time Zeus killed Kratos, and the (second) time he tried to kill himself.

Well, he's still got those scars in the stomach.
And he has much more self-control, too.
It seems after the events of GoW3, he went far away to make a new life. To have a new love and a new child.
And that's what GoW4 is about it seems. He just moved to a different place. Though, we don't really know when this happens. It could be hundreds if not thousands of years after GoW3. Kratos is inmortal after all.

I don't see how that's possible, as God of War 3 involved Kratos literally destroying the sun, the oceans, and the world, and unleashing massive plagues that killed everyone on earth that he hadn't already murdered in person yet.

Gods, the more I remember about the writing in that game the stupider it gets.

no but you see kratos impaled himself to release hope back to the world, which supposedly would magically fix all of that.

its a soft reboot which means different setting, gameplay, studio, va, everything but still being in the same universe

Yeah, as in "I hope these locusts finish eating me before I freeze to death in the dark because the sun is dead."

according to the game director cory balrog there won't be any quicktime events or open world.

plus you will only play as kratos himself so that's good.

and apparently kratos is the only greek god-related character left and has since controlled his rage and moved on with his life

BASICALLY god of war completely 180'ed and changed literally everything that defined the original games, so I guess it's a good fresh start

I'll be glad if he doesn't end up going crazy and killing all the norse god and heroes, like they did post 2.

I would like to fight Norse Monsters like Grendel, Jörmungandr and/or Fenrir.

I remember reading in the internet that the original events of God of War 3 would be Kratos killing Zeus and then bringing lots of mythologies to his universe and killing their gods too (was changed due to the writer getting fired or something like that). It kinda makes sense with this one being similar, he killed the whole greek mythology big guys, now he moves to the other mythologies. Damn... I wish he had chosen Egyptian...

Cory Barlog, not balrog.

If he's the guy on it though, it'll be really fucking good. He directed 2, which was my favorite by far.

would you call mario 64 or resident evil 4 a reboot

this is really stretching the definition. if the game follows the same timeline as the other games then it's not a reboot. it's not restarting anything, it's not ignoring the past timeline

Reboot=/=rebranding

MK9 is a reboot.  DmC is a reboot.  Those are just sequels that go into a different direction.  Was Resident Evil 4 a reboot?

idk some sites are calling it a "soft reboot" kinda like how transformers 4 was coined a soft reboot because of the completely new cast and (somewhat) different direction

Something is either a reboot or not, there's no middle term. The closest to that would be some super convoluted meta shit, and even then you will most likely end up with a reboot like in MK's case anyway.

Can Mortal Kombat's case be called a reboot? I mean, I know its a timeline reconstruction, but it happens within the story, Raiden, from Armageddon, returns in time and changes all events, its not like with Devil May Cry, for example, where all characters and story are totally different and unrelated to the original versions and story.

Post by: Speedpreacher on June 15, 2016, 04:22:25 am
Yes.

Things play out differently from what happened previously for the express purpose of telling a new story. Just like Star Trek, a reboot through time travel shenanigans is still a reboot, not a sequel.

This aint a reboot, it changes nothing of the continuity, its a genre shift. Changing from the slasher/masher genre into a more action oriented gameplay.

Looks a lot like Last of us.

also, according to psn (https://store.playstation.com/en-us/product/UP9000-CUSA07408_00-00000000GODOFWAR) the game will come out on the last day of december, which is hopefully far enough until i can buy a ps4.
