Title: Sean
Post by: vyn on January 08, 2018, 05:14:04 am
Next character I want to make.

Sean doesnt get too much love but ive always liked what he could have been. Anyways, so far only movement and standing basics are finished. Will use the same system as my latest character.

So, Sean's next.
Well then, I'm kinda interested, why won't you use his CvS spriteset instead of SF3? Well, for extra consistency with your Ryu.
Sean by Victorys is a good example os true CvS Sean. Almost every sprite is good, even the exclusive moves from SF3.

All in all, good luck with project.

I dunno, man. Victorys' Sean really looks fine. At least, for me. The same Sean Tackle, for example.

Still, I understand what are you talking about, there are indeed exists not really good conversions of Sean.
Not trying to push anything though...

I did consider the cvs sprites, I even added a couple of animations just to see how it looked and they are actually pretty good, victory did a great job using them but i still decided for SF3.

In the end I just wanted to work with sf3 sprites once again, its much harder to make animations look smooth with all the position changes but its fun as well and the result is great.

I scaled him to .825, he is still bulkier than cvs but doesnt look too out of place, the similar effects and gameplay will do the rest for him to seem cohesive with Ryu.

Been making some slow progress on him and thinking of his moveset and gameplay.

For one ive decided to keep him 100% melee, no projectile abilities at all as this is how i think Sean gameplay should be. He will have "energy" abilities though, just not projectiles. His taunt is still the basketball cuz i love that move.

Secondly ill keep him focused on moves with few hits or just one hit but make them fast and strong.

His ex moves will be similar to ken´s, being his master and all.

Now, for his V-Trigger and V-Skill i have no idea what to make yet lol. I will keep them as utility moves though, not actual attacks.

have you thought about giving him some laura inspired stuff? not exact moves per-say but something inspired by her rush-down techniques?

I can see a version of Sean where he throws Hadoukens like a basketball instead of the normal animation.

Progress is going smooth but damn slow, i used to be faster at this lol.

All normal attacks are finished.

I also finished his normal tackle special, QCF+P

gif speed is a little slower than the actual move

I love it, can't wait to see more like this. Will his supers fx be the same, or have a different color scheme to show different levels.

I put in a couple of hours this long weekend, dragon smash and hitsparks are finished so here is a small combo to show both.

You know, this is the first time ive seen someone using
my ryu outside of my thread during bug reporting.
Thank you even tho he's getting beat on lol.

The hit sparks look great I would love to know how
in the hell you manage to create them, I know you've
said before you mix up stuff from different sources but
how do you merge everything together and make it
look good?

I agree with everyone about HitSparks you made here. And, BTW, just an idea for his V-Trigger:
-"Fanboy's Power". When activated, Sean is allowed to use extra, Ken-styled combos and his Shoryuken is changed to Ken-like: one-hand 1-3-Hit Shoryuken. Flames aren't necessary here. Allowing his Hadou Burst here as the EX-Only move could also be a nice solution to his movelist. Geri-moves could also work here perfectly, especially if you decided to stick with his Super Tackle as CA, but I didn't see these kicks in SF3 style at all. Of course, this mode is for a limited time.
Can't think about his V-Skill though. Maybe an invincible to low attacks and comboable from normal attacks Leaping Attack as a throwback to SF3?

Necro bump FTW

Worked on his tatsu, its a mix of SF3 Sean and SFV Ken.

couldve sworn i replied to you.

First get good, high quality base effects, then edit them all in a similar way, I use photoshop for a mix of blur, radial blur and sharpen effects, then give them all the same pallette and finally a TON of trial and error. Also my effects are not only pretty sprites but a lot of coding behind to zoom, spin, fade, turn black, etc.

Sorry, but could you upload that Tornado Kick of Sean as a GIF? I can't clearly understand it's difference from Sean's basic Tornado (but height) by screenshots only.
And glad to see you're still working on him.
