http://mgmod.com/mugen/hosted/macport/ - DMG tested on macbook early 2007 with tiger and macbook unibody early 2009 with leopard
(thank you bigboss for uploading this to your site)
Known issues:
-you'll start to get lag at first, but after awhile it should run perfectly
-Snow leopard users are not going to get this game working. apple is known for changing there x window system without telling developers. the only way to fix this is either using the methods found here: http://www.codeweavers.com/support/tickets/browse/?ticket_id=758720;list=13;ticket_level=3 or i could make a completely new port from scratch (which is most likely what i'm going to do)
Notes:
-to install characters, stages, etc.. right click the application and open package contents then navigate here: contents/SharedSupport/cxchromium/support/Chromium/drive_c/Program Files/mwc4h/Winmugen/, and do what you got to do on installing characters, stages, etc..
-to change the language go to options and click on english were the language is
IMPORTANT!!!
-to remove lag issues go to mugen.cfg in menu and go to the video tab. From right there change the directx mode to hardware. so far its the best thing u can do to get rid of lag
The Story:
so it was mid january i think when i started working on this, when i made a topic a few months ago i was trying to see what the problem was when mugen would not pop up and would crash all of a sudden. after much frustration i finally found the solution, "what if i were to use a launcher so i can launch mugen?" and after that i found Mugen windows configurator which would launch mugen and would also configure many other things involving mugen. After that, i tested it and there was still crash problems. the solution to this was just adding DX9 drivers within the wrapper and now i made a full, working port for the mac community.
Special Thanks:
-The entire Macportingteam for the inspiration and there help
-Elecbyte
-Codeweavers, for there tremendous efforts in bringing windows software compatibility to us mac users
-Mugenguild
-and anybody else i forgot
Disclaimer:
all software, tools, sprites, etc.. that helped me throughout the production of this port belongs to there respectful owners. all i did was just program it.
Enjoy the release
EDIT:
For everyone here who has issues running mugen on snow leopard will now be able to play it with the next release which is nearly close to its completion. also, i got rid of mugen windows configurator and just left mugen as is with the new update that elecbyte released. a few other things were that the new wrapper doh123 made from the team got rid of all the slowness issues so this is going to be the most stable release yet.

Cool, thanks for your effort, I cant test it, but I think I talk for everyone when I say its always good to see development happening like this.
Hope you dont mind if we host it on the mugen for download section ( when val manages to put up in the air again) ?

Is there a possibility you'd do this with WinmugenPlus as well?
Or is this the plus version already?

its not the plus version but i'll try it out to see if i can get it to work as well
-
Can i get it with some fries and chocoshake?
-
You forget to assign the red label to the last two folders in the path to the mugen directory. The red labels are a very nice touch.
-
for those having problems with this port, i had to create a dmg file to get this working, therefore, i'll re-upload this and re-release it. srry for the inconvenience
-
You may want to include the quartz-wm file too.

Hey dude i can see you finally got it running im gonna switch to this now :) but is it all exactly the same as Winmugen i mean when you go to show contents and put the stuff in is it the same?

Soz for dub posting but i need to say this to the dev of this Okay *ahem* when i opened it said it was intalling ( i have cross over Mac) but NOW every time i open in about 3 secs it closes every time I Think you might have to config some settings but is it the way i downlaodeed it or something?.... it's like 80 MB but the actually Mugen is 215.6 Mb (i think that's almost exact) anyways thanks for this man it's great i would say it's teh BEST if it actually worked....
-
If u ran it on the dmg then possibilities are it's not gonna work and if u updated X11 then that could of broke it. The program ran fine when I downloaded it on a MacBook 2007 with tiger and when I ran it on my desktop, if u added the game in a games folder in ur applications folder then test it out of that folder and just run it through the applications folder. Hopefully it should work by then. If not, contact me through pm and tell me your results and I'll c if the team and I can c the solution to your problem

Awesome. So what about joystick support? Can't seem to get mine to work.
-
I was searching around youtube and see what other ppl were doing to getting winmugen on Mac. Seems they were using other products such as CrossOver, from what I can tell.
So is this like a more, easier method to play Mugen on a Mac? I'm NOT a Mac user, but I'm curious as to how this works in compared to the other things that were available. o_O
Nice work though. I bet mac users will be happy about this. ;)

yes, it is winmugen, but emulated to make it seem like its running on windows with this excellent wrapper. so ya, with this version you can add winmugen stages, characters, etc...

I can host it on my actual site going up tonight.

Noticed this. So um... What is... "awhile" exactly?
And when can MacMugen with WinMUGEN+ be expected?

well what i ment in awhile is that at first run you'll get lag but after a couple more runs (maybe 6-8) on the game it should be fine though thats not for sure so right now i'm working on getting rid of the lag but it might b awhile. As for winmugen+ you'll expect a release by next week

I'm trying to get this running on a Mac Mini running OS X 10.5.7, but every time I try to do anything besides launch it (which seems to work fine) I get an error message that says "Unable to write to C:\Program Files\mwc4h\Win Mugen\data\mugen.cfg"
I guess there's something I need to update, or change in the settings?
-
If you are playing from the DMG that might be the problem.
-
So are there specific system requirements for this thing to run? My girlfriend has Mac 10.5.7 and she can't even open the DMG file.
-
If you are playing from the DMG that might be the problem.
Nevermind, got it working.
-
After playing with this for a couple of days, I find it runs MUCH faster if the DirectX mode is set to "none." Even on my little MacBook 2Ghz Core 2 Duo, using a resolution of 640x480, color depth 8 and high resolution, the frame rate is a solid 50 with two GokuHRs fighting it out.
Only problem then is that the colors are partly inverted -- all the skin tones are blue, the background of the select screen is orange. But darks are still darks, and lights are still lights.
Any thoughts?
-
So as soon as I saw this, I got very excited! While I can't create stuff on the mac side of things, when I switch from PC to Mac on my partitioned drive, I can just add completed things and play on my mac. So after downloading little Ken, here's what I got:
ogg sound files seem jumpy. I use them for my select screen, intro and main screen. They sound fine in other mac and pc applications that I use and work fine in my PC version of Winmugen.
Can't get the controllers to work. Jesuszilla asked about this and you gave him a link, but the page doesn't open for me. Honestly, I can't even get my keyboard to work (I'm using a Macbook, it's about 2 years old).
I tried using the arena since I don't need to use any controller there. The game runs alright on the default 320x240 at 8 bit color with no double res. Still skips frames here and there. Once I bump up the vid size, the game becomes unmanageably slow. Not sure if this is the lag you spoke of. Could be my vid card.
It's a nice engine to have. I'll probably use it for watch mode and tournaments when I'm doing Mac stuff. Thanks for the release.
-
i don't have my installation disk, as anyone had success, running it without it
is there a specific icon or folder im spose to be activating to try to start, the ken logo i guess?

u see the technology to this wrapper mimics windows in order to play mugen on mac. just act as if it were a real c drive. when u first click it ask you were mugen is so the correct file path should be, "c:/program files/mwc4h/Win Mugen" and it should be self explanatory from there.

strange. i seemed to test out your settings and i got the same results. i'm at the moment trying to use a winewrapper created by doh from the team and it works with mwc but got a few problems running the game itself. I'll just stick to the original wrapper and just start adding a few important drivers in order to get this running correctly
btw u have to run this in hardware mode to get rid of lag permanently.

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
How do you run in Hardware mode?
-
oh cool i recommend this to my friend who has a mac :sugoi:
-
How do you run in Hardware mode?
go to mugen.cfg (the third option where there's a tool icon) and go to where it says, "video". now were it says, "Windows" change the directx mode to, "hardware" then from there everything should be self explanatory. hope that helped you
-
Darn this lag is annoying but the only way to fix is to run in hardware mode. However i can't even use the controls. Nothing i press seems to work. I can't even esc so i have to command+q
It has something to do with selecting the window itself but i can't do that with my mouse not visible....
-
Well I'd be burned... I go on Workbathical and MUGEN gets Mac ported... Impressive work man, (Thought I'd rather punch a wall covered in barbed wire than switch to mac, Personal Opinion...) But It's Impressive to know Now not only we Win users can have MUGEN, but also those of the Mac users... so Finally all three "Major" OS are covered
Luck to the Mack Users...

I only have 2 problems:
1: keyboard controls- it doesn't seem to work. and as I read earlier, that only solves the joystick problem.
2: adding characters, stages, etc.- how do I put all that in? when I try using the controls "add character" and select a file from mac, it will not read it. so how do I put the files in the mugen folder when I cant even access it from the mac options?
This may be simple questions to answer, but I am not knowledgeable on macs. I just have to deal with this mac for now...
any help will be appreciated, thank you.

ya, already figured that out. but for every different screen pack I put in, more problems occur. in the end, it is just not worth it playing it on the mac. I just find problems after problems and when I fix one, another starts. just keep it windows.

hmm, i need suggestions for another launcher. this particular one is just not gonna work out since installing a screenpack is a pain for me as well though the only way to get this working was to get a launcher so if anyone has suggestions just ask and i'll add a new launcher upon next release. btw i apologize for not updating its status because of school and such and i'm busy with other things as well so for the time being this will have to be put on hold

no problem man, you did good trying this out. the fact that you can get MUGEN running on a mac is great. remember that the second try is always better. Trial and error, the key to success. The main problem I find from the start is the mugen configuration system. it makes installing character and stages easy, but sometimes with a new screen pack, you get character errors and you can't access it because of the mugen configuration, same goes for the stages. I could never get two characters to fight because of the errors that I can't fix. And when I tried the new screen pack (neowave), it would only read the "WIN MUGEN" file, no matter how you change it. Once again, the problem is the configuration that was put there. sometimes, the long way to install a character or a stage is the secure way to insure that you are correct with what you put. because not knowing what you did wrong is just aggravating. my suggestion is maybe the mugen configurator thingy you put in is messed up, or maybe it should not even be there. because for all I know, maybe it is the source of all the problems. check with the errors one at a time, starting with the mugen configuration tool. as for the rest, well, thats out of my knowledge. but this is all I can tell you.
well good luck, and I hope this helps.

thank you, and yes, now that i see it, it is MWC that is causing all of this. i remember seeing a launcher that just launched the game and nothing else and you could edit the settings manually like you would on windows. but i don't remember what it was called.... a quick google search should help
-

I'm not having too much trouble with MWC, and in fact I like how it provides an actual interface for configuring the game. Personally I don't care too much about the screen pack being used -- though I use BrokenMugen on my PC, so I know that a well-done screen pack adds a nice layer of polish.
I'd be more concerned about MWC if it was adding some unneeded processing or resource overhead. Not that your current release is running too slow, but generally I'd trade comparability or slickness for performance.

I thought i'd like to point out, if you have xquartz installed, you've basically got no chance of trying this out. Something about xquartz breaks it, I don't know what.
If you have xquartz, you may want to revert back to standard X11.
You can use this tutorial here to get back to stock X11
(Look for the header "Messed it up, got confused, want to start over?")

oh, I just saw this now!
I will test it right now, this is very useful to me :)
-
hum, I tried to make it run, but when I hit PLAY...it says "unable to write the .cfg"
-
just want to tell everyone that a new release is coming out soon
-
Awesome news. I like that the new Mugen is going to be used this time. Good luck with this :)
-
Awesome news. I like that the new Mugen is going to be used this time. Good luck with this :)
I play around with this a lot these days. I've got winmugen running stable-ish (stable for mugen anyhow) -- and the new RC2 is running (sporadically) at 50+ FPS! I've got a couple of insights:
1) I've spent a lot of time messing about with this, and this is my current theory on the missing mugen.cfg problem. I think it's due to CrossOver keeping the actual files for Mugen "inside" the Mugen.app. Problem is, MWC thinks a folder of aliases is its home directory, and doesn't know how to follow a Macintosh alias.
So, MWC is looking for mugen.cfg in here:
Macintosh HD > Users > Boradis > Library > Application Support > Crossover Mugen > Bottles > drive_c > Program Files > mwc4h > mugen > data > mugen.cfg (alias)
Luckily, MWC can "dig" into Mugen.app to get at the needed files. On the Options menu of MWC, click the "Mugen Version" button, and direct it to here (assuming you've got Mugen.app in your Applications folder):
Macintosh HD > Applications > Mugen.app > Contents > SharedSupport > cxchromium > drive_c > Program Files > mwc4h > mugen > data > mugen.cfg (actual file)
You can also get right at the files from within that first directory by right-clicking (or ctrl-clicking) on one and choosing "Show Original." Then it will pop open the innards of Mugen.app as the tree of directories it is, allowing you to launch winmugen.exe by itself, and edit your select.def and mugen.cfg files by hand.
2) I believe (I may be wrong) that when MWC launches, it loads the mugen.cfg file it's set to load and passes it to Mugen as it is launced. If MWC loads a mugen.cfg for Old Winmugen, it may let you launch RC2, which then seems to use its own mugen.cfg (at least if you change the options and save). Just make sure you don't edit the RC2 mugen.cfg file using MWC, since the program makes changes that aren't compatible with RC2.
Anyhow, that's what my experiments have yielded so far.

I could've sworn Macmugen was on the new Mugen Wiki. I'm not sure if it's still there.

The wiki link simply points back to this thread...no link to the actual dmg file.

Chances are, your OS isn't 10.5, or you have XQuartz installed, which conflicts with MacMugen.

So... any way I can get the source code for this?

Why the fuck is this still here if its not working? :grrr:

That's a good point. If the link to the .dmg worked then those running OS X 10.5.x and earlier could use it.
Anyhow, here's the current status of getting Mugen to run under Crossover (http://www.codeweavers.com/support/tickets/browse/?ticket_id=799110;).

Link is dead... Zelda will not be saved. :(
