Thanks ;) Sadly, it's true... the 2 N64 CF games instead sprites, characters are JPG animated in 3D backgounds. That's the reason so many years ago I tried to "rip" some of them with fugly results... until nowA year ago, I also tried ripping the sprites of Earthworm Jim as well but couldn't get it to work right due to the lighting in the game would change EWJ's pallete every time I ripped and also I would rip it and still get some parts missing.
Just 3 programs:Interesting. I'll keep this mind when I rip sprites from the game later in the future.
-Project64, to emulate the game (the best emulator on internet, even when it suck in certain way)
-AnimGet, to get the shots when you're playing
-Paint Shop Pro or any other image edition program (I prefer PSP since it's better with pixels than Photoshop, IMO)
Basicly you've to get the screen in Project64 at 640x480 res, then take the shots with AnimGet and then edit them in PSP (or you fav editing program), crop and clean them like MAME games (deleting the background) and after that resizing at 50% (320x240 if you do it with the entire shot). After that, adjusting brightness/contrast and then making a palette with the sprite (I used less than 100 colors, like 50 + or -), and that palette you uses for the next sprites
I hope this can help to make more ClayFighter characters for MUGEN :D
Announcer wise, yes. Now if he were to code the said combo announcer for the character itself, it might be possible. In any case, good luck Basara.
Ripping these sprites look like a very long (and boring :P) process. I'm happy somebody has the dedication to do such a work. Thanks guys ;) I think about adding some, like when announcer says Claytality! and stuff like that, but I think I can add it to Jim after all...
Good luck with the character.
And yeah, maybe you could add the announcer system to Earthworm Jim himself, as creators do with their MVC characters.
Oh man, getting those sprites sounds like a very tedious and painful process, which makes me love you all the more for actually doing this.Well, that's the easier part. N64 CF games (63 1/3 and Sculptor's Cut) have in the option the volume for voice/FX and for music, so only I've to mute music and when appears the voice/sound, I recorded when I put pause in the game. The only pain-in-the-ass are the gethit sounds and the strong hit FX, since they are combinated when you hit a character, that's my only trouble for now...
I am also quite interested in how you are planning to do the announcer for the lifebars, since they are quite different from the norm. I guess you could have round 1 be LETS GET READY TO CRUMBLE with a long enough space, and perhaps round 2 could be OH I LOVE IT or something.Well, in the lifebars actually I put in first round the "let's get ready to crumbleee!" but in the middle it sounds the "fight!" and I don't know how I can make more time for the phrase, or if I can do it... so I'm thinking about just put the "fight" sound only
try to use artmoney to find and get rid of bgs and rip it easylyIt would be great, but I never could learn to use ArtMoney, and I've enough for the moment trying to rip manually from the emu...
I have experience ripping sprites from N64 games. What exactly do you need help with?Don't worry, my method still working for now, thanks anyway ;)
It would be useful to you Basara :p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Np70uW8hMuUThanks, I'll see if this would be useful for ripping (downloading FLV via RealPlayer)
i'll try, just got to go redownload it later this weekend.I have experience ripping sprites from N64 games. What exactly do you need help with?Don't worry, my method still working for now, thanks anyway ;)
Or yes, want to rip sparks from the game (hit/block FX, DM flash), maybe you can help me with that (more for the lifebars than for Jim)
I was thinking in a Psycrow palette too, but I've to still experimenting with actual sprites and if I can change the other colors apart of the blue staff (if that so, I'm thinking in a Boogerman palette, too)
It would be useful to you Basara :p http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Np70uW8hMuUThanks for the video, but that only works for Project64 1.7, the only version avaliable is 1.6 since 1.7 is just for developers and collaborators (that's mean, it's private). So that tutorial doesn't help me, thanks anyway ;)
oooh EWJ will be a welcome addition to MugenHmmm, I don't have idea about that. Let me look @ his chars to see it...
perhaps interactivity with Shadowtak's Clayfighter characters?
ok his chars were Taffy, Ickybod Clay, The Blob, Blue Suede Goo, and N.Boss from Clayfighter and Octohead from Clayfighter 2
Lord Sinistro did Hoppy from Clayfighter 2 as well
perhaps interactivity with Shadowtak's Clayfighter characters?(http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/3271/mugen102.png)
You could try playing with colors and scale for the projectiles of Super Fire Shoot : they're all the same and it looks repetitive as is.Well, in the game it works that way as you see in the pic, same with similar supers of other CF chars (as Kung Pow's "Lo Mein" super, when he jumps and shoot woks). But I noticed other moves like Tumbleworm works even better than in the game :P
Lord Sinistro to ask permission for KI combo system and talk to Shadowtak for compatibility code,
No custom sparks? Not for now, but Orbinaut makes some FX rips, I hope they could work. But at least all CF common sounds are already incorporated on Jim ;)
Basara, will you be my man-wife?Hahaha, thanks for the offer, but I just like women :P
I don't think I could do it, since they are transparencies like FX sparks... but at least I could emulate the announcer and the message :P
Oh that was a Queen Combo =P

needs more fixes and a way about freeze the anim in one sprite
At last I could make palettes and now Jim has 12 colors to choose (for the complicated sprites, I just changed the blue lines for other colors u_u)(http://img816.imageshack.us/img816/4694/jimpals.gif)

Cool. :)Thanks man ;) I'm working in the other 5 now :P
I fully understand how you feel when dealing with 2.5D/3D sprite rips............. :yeses:Thanks, really is so hard, but the final result is satisfactory :D

Back with the news. First about lifebars, there're almost ready, but I still fixing problems in simul and team... and making 2X fonts for those ones who like HR (or more than 640x480) screens on MUGEN. And still ripping some more stuff for FIGHT! anim with the letters flying all over the screen :P
About Jim... as all you know, I was busy making Claytalities and Insane Combos, and I didn't noticed that someone already made Jim, but it's custom and won't have the stuff I'm making for Jim (and for the latter chars I would make from this game), so I'm thinking seriously about releasing him as the state he has now. At least the sprites are better than the other version IMO :P
What do you say?? Should I release my version of Jim or not?? :???:
No Kung Pow their either makes me a sad panda too. : \
BOOGERMAN bcuz Moojin needs him
I'm not voting unless Ickybod, Kung Pow or Sumo Santa get on the list. : \:sadgoi:
Did you know that there's sprites ripped for almost everyone from Clayfighter 63 1/3 on Spriter's Resource? You'll have to remove a white outline of characters, and there's alot of colors, but its still easier than ripping them yourself. (I'm halfway done with Blob's main attacks right now, and its only been a few days! ;D)
No problem ;) I aware of those sheets after released Jim, but apart of there're few characters "ripped", I don't like the rips, are smallest than normal characters (DrKeleco used that Jim's sheet and don't like the result) and it has 256+ colors. My "sprites" are ripped using 640x480 res in Project64 + taking shot in AnimGet + resize into 320x240 + arrange the sprites to get a brighter/colorful look than in the game.Yeah, I used Blob's sheet. I'm not bothered by the 256 colors. Besides, Blob has the smallest palette.(because he's only green, red, white and black, while someone like Bonker has White, Red, Blue, Yellow, Black,Brown etc.)
But I guess those ones could be useful in some time more :P but for now, I still rip CF sprites to my way... and maybe making some from old CF games using the same style than Jim :D
Nope, they're made under WinMugen, dunno if would be compatible with 1.0 :-\

OK, starting to rip him and probably he will be the next character from CF I'll make instead Boogerman (who's harder to rip than Frosty). Apart of the big portrait, I found an old sprite I ripped (for fake/troll reasons) and I'm reusing his palette and adjusting it just like I did with Jim. And since the palettes are just Frosty's hat colors, this will be easier than I thought.
So, here're the shots for starting:

There're not much advances but IT'S SOMETHING *insert meme stickman here* Soon more of Frosty ;)
try doing dr kiln becuse i tried working on him but the jump wont workDr. Kiln is not in my plans now, but as I know DrKelexo wanted to make him someday :P
This project seems interesting though how will you go about ripping the extra characters from Sculptor's cut? (Zappa Boys, Lady Liberty, Lockjaw, and High-Five)I'm pretty interested in Lockjaw Pooch, it's my favourite character of the new ones (and in second place, High-Five)
:DOlá, pessoal. Já tenho um bocado convertido. Mas espero umas ajudinhas já que estou formando um game pra Mugen depois vejo se lanço na net alguns.Kung Pow?? Great, good luck with him, but I suggest you make him more like in CF63 1/3
