History and Storyline
Hi its me Chatman.
Here ill be posting updates on the story and the intros for all our included characters. To kick it off, the main plot line and intro:
"The death of Shao Kahn by the hands of the Forces of Light should have been a chance for the realms to celebrate. But instead, it only created another time of suffering and bloodshed. I had not anticipated that Shang Tsung, once no more than a lowly servant of the late Emperor, would ascend to claim the throne of Outworld, and begin anew his former master's reign of terror and violence. Already the hideous Tarkatans had sworn allegiance to the sorcerer, and many lives were ended at the hands of his villainous comrades. So the tournament between Earthrealm and Outworld was doomed to continue.
"At one stage, Liu Kang, the Champion of the Elder Gods, was locked in battle with Shang Tsung himself, who had grown much stronger since his rise to Emperor. I believe that if it were not for the intervention of the sorcerer’s minions, then victory would have been ensured. While the Forces of Light tried to fight them off, the cowardly Shang Tsung uttered an incantation of a kind not heard before, and a cataclysmic explosion took place all around, spreading throughout the realms. When the dust settled, the world was a much different place.
"It has come to my knowledge that Shang Tsung had long intended to seek out worlds far beyond the known realms in order to expand Outworld's territories, but had never managed to accomplish this before the death of Kahn. Now, at his current state of power, he has succeeded in merging our world with another - a parallel universe occupied by warriors known colloquially as "Street Fighters", with power that easily rivals our own. While many of these fighters have joined our cause in hunting for Shang Tsung, others have perceived us as threats to their world, while many of the Forces of Light believe them to be minions of Shang Tsung.
"The merging of three worlds at once - Outworld, Earthrealm and this new land - has weakened the boundaries of reality, and should the antagonism between sides escalate into Mortal Kombat, then the Armageddon prophesied by the sorceress Delia will take place. I cannot stand by and watch as the realms tear each other apart. I must rally the Forces of Light and put an end to Shang Tsung's plans, before it is too late."
--These are the Words of Raiden
And now character intros:
Street Fighter
Ryu
I am Ryu, known worldwide as the Champion of the Street Fighter tournament. Yet all I wanted was a quiet life, to practise my fighting skills and fulfil my destiny as the warrior I know I am. After the fall of M. Bison and the criminal organization Shadaloo, I was preparing to settle down and renew my simple life. Little did I know of what was to come, or of the challenge that would arise to test not only my skill, but my resolution.
It all happened one seemingly normal day upon the rooftops of Suzaku castle. I was training my young love Sakura in Master Gouken’s fighting arts when a powerful vortex erupted into the air right in front of me. From behind the swirling blackness I could hear whispered voices, deep in conversation, although about what I do not know. My only guess is that the portal leads to another world, seperate from ours, although the reason for it's appearance is beyond me.
Feeling this strange phenomenon may lead me to my ultimate fate, I have stepped forward into the unknown, eager to encounter what may lie there. I can only hope Sakura is still safe, for I have a strong feeling that something great and terrible will occur shortly...
Ken
Why can't anything ever be simple? I get two weeks off each year, two weeks I have to myself, to spend time with Eliza and Mel. Two weeks each year I can let it all hang loose, not have to worry about executive meetings, financial reports and sucking up to stockholders. And now I don't even have that.
At first I figured Ryu'd taken a few too many hits to the head in his travels, but I should've known better than to doubt him. I'm ashamed to say when he first told me about portals to other dimensions I thought he'd found my private reserve and Mel's comics. I didn't even see fit to warn my security staff. Poor bastards. They came that night: vicious monsters with long, wicked blades sprouting from their arms. Bullets can put them down, but there were too many of the ugly freaks; they overran my guards and stormed the place. Ryu and I put the rest down, but they kept getting back up... We ended up having to kill them. Freaks or not, it doesn't feel good to kill someone.
Poor Eliza hasn't been the same since: she saw what the freaks did to the guards outside, ripped limb from limb from torso from spine... Thank god Mel didn't see them. I'm not sure I know how to explain something like that to him. What I do know is I've got to put the gloves back on. Ryu seems to think this Lo Pan wannabe's behind it all, Shang Tsung or something like that. I'm not gonna run the risk of doubting Ryu again; heck, the guy doesn't know how to lie. I've left Eliza and Mel with some new friends of Ryu's to keep them safe. In the meantime, I'm gonna find this Tsung guy and rip him a new one. No one but Ryu can cut into my vacation time...
Chun-Li
I honestly thought that the defeat of criminal overlord M. Bison would have ended the fear that the people of the world lived in during the Street Fighter tournament. But no sooner has one threat ended than another terror arises to traumatize us all. When will all of this end?! Sometimes, I feel as though all of my work at Interpol has been for nothing at all, that evil will never be quashed no matter what I do. But then I remember the efforts of my friends, and what they have done – Guile, Charlie, even Ryu... They have all been a credit to world peace.
This time, the threat comes from another world entirely – mysterious portals have opened in key locations around the world, letting in warriors of a brutality unmatched anywhere else. Already they have taken hundreds of lives – I myself have seen what they are capable of... Ugh! The horror of it! It appears that a man by the name of Shang Tsung is behind all this, hoping to initiate a violent takeover and conquer the entire globe. Rumours abound that he’s a sorcerer of some sort, able to drain the life force of a person by mere thought, but I’ve never been a rumours woman.
It’s clear to me that any and all measures must be taken to protect the planet. My old colleague, Guile of the Air Force, claims that there’s a band of resistance fighters from the new world going around, helping people affected by Shang Tsung’s mindless rampages. If what he says is true, then I shall have to find these rebels – perhaps they know a way to defeat the tyrannical madman. But how can I trust them in this time of fear and chaos?
Akuma
Some would call me a demon, an unholy creature from the depths of hell. Others call me the “Master of the Fist”, a rather flattering title for a man of my skill. I prefer to call myself a true warrior; inhibited by compassion or the restraint that many others practice. I was present during the second annual Street Fighter tournament, but was defeated unceremoniously by Ryu, and was not present at the final fight against M. Bison. There is something about that boy that sparks my interest – an aura similar to my own...
Not long after that, I was meditating at the cave where I attained my enlightenment when a furious explosion jolted the ground. I exited the cave to find myself surrounded by disfigured bandits, who promptly attackted me. They fought without mercy, and they were many, but their lack of discipline prevented them from reaching their full potential, and I cracked the skulls of the entire rabble save one, who fled in terror.
He disappeared into a swirling portal that stood some way into the forest. I can only assume that more like him lurk beyond it, perhaps stronger and with greater skills than those bandits. I shall venture into this new world, and see if an opponent worthy to face the power of the Satsui no Hado exists. This shall be my greatest fight yet...
Sakura
I can’t believe what’s just happened. It’s as if everything I know has been torn from my heart and thrown into a fiery pit. Within an hour of Ryu vanishing into that portal on the Suzaku castle rooftops, a hundred more appeared – maybe even more, all around the globe. Even as I shut my eyes, I can still see those monsters pouring out by the hundreds, and hear the screams of innocent people being sliced apart... I’ve fought many battles, but never have I seen so much blood spilled before, and definitely not like this.
But it gets worse. As I was seeking a place to hide, I was ambushed by someone, or at least something, like a demon in human form. I fought my best, but in the end he was too strong – my strength gave out, and he pummelled me like a rag doll until I couldn’t feel anything anymore. He then demanded to know where Ryu was, saying something about avenging his family and clan. When I told him that I knew nothing, he shrieked in fury and disappeared through a fiery portal, swearing to return.
Whatever’s going on, I’m sure that the portals are connected to it. And if this stranger knows about Ryu, then something terrible must be befalling our world. I must find Ryu and warn him, before it is too late... and I lose the only one I’ve ever loved.
M. Bison
Shadoloo had had a close call, as have I. The combined efforts of Ryu and the Special Forces threatened to bring my empire to it’s knees, and my life was threatened by none other than Chun-Li herself. As fate would have had it, I managed to flee to my emergency lair in Cambodia, where I could nurse my wounds. Who, now, would stand with me at this hour of need? Sagat had turned his back on my generous services, Vega's sadistic urges had landed him in Interpol custody, and Balrog mysteriously vanished during the final fight, possibly back to Vegas for more gambling and bar fights. They will surely pay for their treachery, all three of them.
But I was still too weak to face them, let alone the Special Forces. I had to get myself back to strength, start from the ground up, and slowly, so as not attract any unwanted attention. It took months, rebuilding the psycho drive from what bits and pieces I could salvage from that old base, but slowly and surely, I restored my power, rising up to become the mighty being that I was once again. But at that time, one day, a portal burst into thin air, right in the middle of my base.
Over the months, I had heard reports of such portals occurring around the world, but I had foolishly not believed them, until now. Finally, I shall get the chance to test my newfound powers, and exert my dominion over wherever this portal takes me. Shadaloo shall rise once again! All the world shall tremble once more at the name of M. Bison!
Sagat
I once served as a mere thug serving under M. Bison, an enforcer of Shadaloo’s will. But now that I have turned my back on the criminal world, leaving Bison to flounder as his empire collapsed around him, I am free to pursue my own fate. It felt good to be back home in Thailand, training next to the statue of the reclining Buddha in preparation for my next fights, and I had hopes for facing Ryu again someday, for he grows stronger every passing day, like I do. Perhaps we could finally settle the old scores.
However, my training was interrupted when a swirling black vortex appeared, ripping the wooden stump I was beating right out of the ground. Suspicious, I peered through the vortex to see an unfamiliar land, in the midst of a brutal battle, with scenes of mutilation worse than my own. Unable to turn away, I suddenly caught sight of Ryu himself, locked in battle with hideous monsters alongside strange warriors I did not recognise. Foolishly acting on impulse, I leapt through the portal, intending to reach Ryu and confront him.
Instead of the battle scene, as I had hoped, I arrived at a barren wasteland, tinted demonic purple and covered with the same corpses I had seen before. There was no sign of Ryu or his strange new friends, but I knew they had been here, if only for a few moments – their tracks showed clearly in the dust. But where are they now? More importantly, what land have I come to, and what has caused these portals? In order to answer both of these questions of mine, I must track down Ryu himself, and whatever stands in my way better look out!
Dudley
How d’you do, chap? My name’s Dudley and I’m well-known in my home country as a famous boxer. Of course, I didn’t take it up for pleasure – I had to keep my father’s business afloat after he died, after all. But I always wanted to be a boxer – ever since I was a kid – and I must admit, I get quite a thrill whenever I step into the ring. I’ve tussled with great ugly brutes twice my size---and come away without a scratch, I’ve won a preposterous amount of trophies and I’ve even fought that warrior Ryu! What a sporting career I’ve had!
Right now, though I’m in a bit of a sticky situation. At first, I thought my secretary had hit herself on the head when she burst into my room and started talking nonsense about swirling vortexes in the garage. But I tell you, I was in for quite a shock when I opened that door! A whole rabble of monstrous, degenerate brutes were slicing up my employees like fine ham, stealing all of my trophies off the walls and vandalizing my father’s prize Jaguar! I shouted at them, and some of them came for me, but you bet I gave a sound hiding, quick sharp! The rest just ran off to god knows where.
One of them managed to croak something from the floor from where he lay – “Give up your lands to the Emperor, or give up your life!” Well, if this “Emperor” wants to force me from my home and take away all I’ve worked so hard to keep alive, then he’s got another think coming! No matter how dirty this man plays, I’m going to find out where he’s lurking, get back my trophies and give him the beating of his life! Tally-Ho!
Alex
Although I had succeeded in defeating Gill in the third Street Fighter tournament, I could not bring myself to kill him for the crime of wounding my friend and mentor Tom. It turned out that I needn’t have bothered, anyway – Tom made a full recovery, and he didn’t seem the worse for what had happened. Amazingly, he didn’t even hold a grudge against the man who injured him! I’m beginning to think that maybe I was too headstrong in confronting Gill...
It is a mistake I cannot repeat now, not when hideous, blade-armed freaks scour the continents, killing all in their path. Once again, Tom has become a victim, this time to the hordes, and I do not know if he will recover from his injuries as easily as he did the last time. Even worse, other warriors have arrived from wherever the mutants have come, and many of them aid the creatures in the total domination of every major city on the planet. It truly is a time of fear for our world.
Scattered titbits of info from what remains of the Mad Gear gang have lead me to believe that a man named Shang Tsung is behind the rampages. I know that I must confront this man and put a stop to him, but I have do not wish to repeat my mistake of challenging Gill alone – I almost died that day, and to challenge an equally-powerful man would be suicide. I have heard tell of a band of warriors who work against Shang – perhaps I can follow them in order to get closer to Tsung...
Makoto
I am Makoto, a Karate master from the Tosa Province. Ever since my father died, it has been my duty to keep the faltering Rindōkan alive by attracting students from around the world. My brother showed no interest in his family’s plight – he chose to become a businessman instead, and while I do not doubt that he chose the path he felt was right, I still feel as though he cared little for his father’s legacy and abandoned me to the fate I have now. But why speak so ill of him now?
It was while I was giving a demonstration in America that the catastrophe began. The crowd was suddenly attacked by a horde of ugly mutants, led by a man in a green ninja outfit, and in the ensuing panic I was able to defend myself until I could hide. As the chaos raged, I received a call from my friends that similar events had occurred back home in Japan a few hours before. When I finally returned after a month of fear, the dojo was in ruins. Worse, I received news that my brother had been killed by the monsters.
When I had finished grieving for him, I began to seek out anyone who could give me information on the attacks. By chance, I discovered a trio of suspicious warriors – the same green ninja from before, a rough Australian and a mutant in armour – passing into a portal in the air. I had heard rumours of these portals before, but only now have I seen them, and what purpose they serve. I shall follow the three, and find the one responsible for the death of my brother.
Yun
I’m Yun, and I’m one of the famous fighting twins of Hong Kong. Well... At least, I was. But things have gone pretty much downhill ever since Baraka and his freaks came to town. I myself have only known the fool and his band for only a few minutes, and yet I hate his guts out for what he is doing to this world. But what can I do about it? I’m nothing more than a slave now, toiling and killing for that sick creature Shang Tsung.
And to think that when Yang first told me about the portals, I laughed. I swear, I thought he’d been on the drink or something, because portals to another world don’t happen, right? Well, five minutes later, I was owned in spectacular fashion. Brother... why did you leap in front of me like that? You knew you didn’t stand a chance against the horde, we both didn’t. Now, I am forced into a band of miscreants, serving that psycho bitch Mileena like sheep out of fear of sharing your fate.
This isn’t happening! I must find a way to escape, I must! Then, when I do, I shall rally my fellow slaves to my cause, find some allies and overthrow the tyrannical reign under which we are oppressed. No longer will people cower in their homes; no longer shall blood be spilt! Revenge will be mine! And if I fail, then at least I will be able to see my brother again. Shang Tsung, I’m coming for you!
Ibuki
Hey! I’m Ibuki, and I’m a ninja taijutsu practitioner from a far-off village. When I’m not training at the Sarusuberi University or delivering oranges to my village, I’m usually of looking for boys – especially the cute, popular ones! But right now, I’ve got a lot more to worry about than dating or ninja training. My whole home town is in peril, and I’m one of the only few who can protect it.
See, strange portals have been appearing in key locations around the world. With them have come a whole host of strange things – hordes of beasts with razor arms and sharp teeth, funny-looking “ninjas” in masks and other strange warriors. A strange energy has crept into our world, and people are being... well, killed is an understatement. Slaughtered, like cows or pigs, is more like it. I myself was almost killed by a guy who called himself Chameleon, and I barely escaped. Hate to run into that guy again...
I haven’t seen hide or hair of Guy since the carnage began, and I don’t know what happened to him. Some say he’s gone to stop the hordes – but he’d never go on his own, I know that. I must find out where Guy has got to, so I can fetch him back and protect the village from the hordes. I only hope he hasn’t had a run-in with any of the warriors – I can’t bear to think of what might have happened...
Urien
I am Urien, president of the Illuminati Organization. I have always played second fiddle to my brother Gill, the organization’s Emperor, and have done my utmost in order to usurp his position for myself. Surely I, a man who has earned his position via hard work and effort, should achieve far more than Gill, who took his very genetic structure apart for the sake of power! What a fool he was –so blinded by the positive things his future could hold that he never thought to look out for the dangers that lay ahead.
The first I knew of the portals was when, while overseeing an assignment in a nearby village, I was assaulted by a group of mutated warriors that were on a killing frenzy, slaughtering my entire team before I could react. Among them was a strange ninja who called himself Reptile, and he challenged me to battle in “Mortal Kombat”, as he called it. He was a grand fight – much like Gill, he did not hold back his true strength. Still, he was no match for me, and in the end his comrades had to intervene so he could escape.
When I returned, I learnt that Gill had been slain by another party of mutants, and that they had made me Emperor of the Illuminati to replace him. Surely, my hour of triumph has come! I have assembled the finest troops our organization can muster, and am prepared for a new endeavour – the conquest of the realm from which Reptile and his allies came from. None shall stand in our way, and soon even M. Bison himself will tremble before my might and name. I shall succeed where Gill failed! Let Mortal Kombat Begin!
Guile
After M. Bison and his little organization disappeared off the face of the planet, I honestly thought that maybe I could take a vacation from all of this military crap; maybe even see my old friends back in America. Damn, how much more stupid can I get, huh? First M. Bison and his cronies, now these odd little swirly portals, not to mention the warriors that keep pouring through. And there I was, hoping things couldn’t get any worse.
They did. Turns out all these portals are the work of some old timer by the name of “Shang Tsung”, who’s stirring up something... big, I don’t know what yet. He’s even got these misshapen freaks called... Tarkatans, I think... running around, chopping people apart and leaving the bits in the middle of the street for the entire world to see. The whole world’s gone to hell in just a few hours, and people don’t know what’s going on anymore.
But my issue ain’t with Shang. Many of Bison’s goons are still around, stirring up trouble, saying that Bison is back and planning something huge. If my hunch is correct, then he’s probably trying to find himself a new business partner in the shape of Shang Tsung. There’s no way in hell I’m gonna let him do that. I’m gonna put that scumbag down, even if it means cracking a hundred skulls to do it!
Zangief
I am Zangief – the Red Cyclone! I am the most famous wrestler in all the world and I fight in the name of my beloved country and for all of the children who cheer me on in my matches. I thought that I had it all – fans, wealth, and a champion’s belt that I could actually wear! The worldwide reports of these portals did not bother me, for I felt myself to be safe from all that was happening. Little did I realise how easily that it could all be taken away from me, and to what extent people would sink to.
After the Street Fighter Tournament had ended, I was visiting a children’s hospital in America in order to lighten the hearts of the little ones. When I got there, however, the place was swarmed with horrible, deformed brutes, ransacking the place left and right. They were lead by a thuggish man who called himself Kano, and I fought him off with my wrestling skills. But when I got into the building, I saw that I was too late. My God... they had killed everyone, man, woman and child... the poor things lay in their own blood as their killers fled into the night!
The reports were true, then – a new world is merging with ours, bringing chaos and destruction as these warriors pour in, seeking destruction. I cannot forgive them for what they have done – they are all killers, every one, and killers deserve nothing more than death. I shall personally hunt down every last of these “Kombatants” until not a trace of their invasion remains! I shall not let them take any more lives in their brutal quest for takeover! FOR MOTHER RUSSIA!
EX Ken
When I stepped into the portal that bloomed in front of my house, I was thrown through the dimensions until I touched down upon a strange new world. Somehow, I felt renewed, empowered, even – the journey through the portal had clearly done something to me. But just then, I was ambushed by even more Tarkatans and knocked unconscious. When I came to, I discovered that I had been taken to the palace of Shang Tsung, the man behind all this chaos.
The Emperor had detected the new power that coursed through my body, and had decided that maybe my people could be of actual use to me. Smirking evilly, he threw me into a swirling mass of green, what I would later learn to be called a “soulnado”, and watched me writhe in agony as thousands of souls from the people he had killed entered my body. He then absorbed my original soul, removing from me the compassion and restraint which has hindered my true power for so long.
My first mission for the Emperor is to locate and destroy the one man strong enough to stop him – Akuma, the demon who had killed my master and disgraced me ages ago. He shall not destroy my new teacher as easily as he slew Gouken! Long Live Emperor Shang Tsung!
Shin LVL 2 Akuma
In the prime of my youth, I had slain my brother, Gouken, for his weakness and for defiling our ancient fighting arts. Now that I am older, I have ascended to a higher plane of existence through the Satsui no Hado, and laid waste to all warriors who had challenged me and threatened to end my life. When I heard the stories of the portals opening across the world, not to mention the warriors and murderers pouring in from them, I saw an opportunity to find a worthy opponent from the new world. I located a portal in southeast Japan and walked into the land known as “Outworld".
There, I was inexplicably ambushed by a man who called himself “Shang Tsung”, claiming to be the emperor of this land. He was strong, and possessed a power that no human should be capable of – indeed, I was nearly overpowered by his dark magic, and he would have seen fit to kill me. But just then, a jolt shot through me, and I found myself tapping into power I never knew I had. With my new strength, I brutally knocked the sorcerer aside, and the coward fled, swearing revenge against me.
This power... it seems to be a new level in the Satsui no Hado that has arisen thanks to the merging of the realms. It feels... good, somehow. I shall venture further into this realm, and seek a worthy fighter to test my new skills. Perhaps I may even encounter Ryu, the boy who the world hailed as the champion of the Street Fighter Tournament. I sense the potential within him, but he shies away from his true destiny. He can never grow strong if he refuses to transcend his humanity.

Mortal Kombat
Scorpion
"It was fortunate for me that I betrayed Shao Kahn and allied myself with Sub-Zero during the final battle, for the Emperor would have surely cast me back into the Netherrealm once my usefulness was ended. In the end, however, I was accepted into the ranks of the Forces of Light, and played a pivotal role in the destruction of Kahn. But, even as Raiden and his allies welcomed me as a free man, I was still uneasy about the fate of my family and clan, for my soul could not rest until I knew who the true killer was.
"At this time, the sorcerer Shang Tsung had taken Kahn's throne for himself, and was ruling Outworld with a new brand of tyranny, threatening the very existance of Earthrealm. I was aiding Raiden's champions in a battle against the new emperor's Tarkatan allies when a sudden blast of dark magic propelled me away from the fight, unable to aid my allies or run to Sub-Zero's aid. I found myself in a whole new realm, confronted by Shang Tsung and his entourage. He promised me that he only wished to help me, and made me an offer.
"He claimed that the killer of my wife and child existed within the realm in which I now stood, and that he would be able to free me from the Netherrealm if I could dispose of him. If the sorcerer speaks the truth, then I finally realize why I still walk this earth. I cannot rest until I find this man and exact my revenge against him. I must avenge my family and clan! I must kill RYU HOSHI!"
Liu Kang
Had I anticipated that Shang Tsung would take over the throne of Outworld after Kahn’s death, I would have made the effort to destroy him beforehand. As it turns out, my old nemesis has grown stronger over the ages, unlocking powerful sorcery that even he never could fathom, and he has managed to open portals to a new world without the aid of his shadow priests. Truly, has evil grown in strength! Raiden arrived just in time to rally those loyal to our cause and enter this new land in pursuit of Shang Tsung, but we have found ourselves loaded with new difficulties.
The emperor’s Tarkatan allies have already slain many in rampages across the new realm, and the existence of Earthrealm has reached the ears of the people. Kung Lao and I have managed to turn the Wu Shi Temple into something akin to a refugee camp, where those affected by the hordes retreat for safety. One man, by the name of Ken, has requested asylum for his wife and child – what we consider a mere burden in our world means more to this man than any other. There is an innocence to this realm that has touched me in some way...
Shang Tsung threatens this innocence now, spilling the blood of countless people for the sake of feasting on his precious souls. I cannot stand by and see my old foe wipe out an entire civilization in the same way that Kahn terrorised Earthrealm during the days of the Outworld Occupation. My fellow monks can handle the influx of homeless people, but I personally shall make sure that Shang Tsung cannot wreck any more lives than he already has. I defeated him in the first Mortal Kombat tournament, and I will do it again!
Raiden
The death of Shao Kahn by the hands of the Forces of Light should have been a chance for the realms to celebrate. But instead, it only created another time of suffering and bloodshed. I had not anticipated that Shang Tsung, once no more than a lowly servant of the late Emperor, would ascend to claim the throne of Outworld, and begin anew his former master's reign of terror and violence. Even worse, he has now managed to open portals to another realm far beyond what is known – a skill he has not exhibited since Kahn’s reign.
In this parallel universe, there exist warriors known colloquially as “Street Fighters”, with powers that easily rival our own. Shang Tsung has already sent his hordes of Tarkatans to rampage around that world, killing in order to satisfy his lust for souls, and many of our warriors have been attacked by the Street Fighters, who assume them to be the sorcerer’s minions. Others, however, have allied themselves to our cause, aiding our quest to hunt down the new emperor and put an end to his reign.
The merging of three worlds at once - Outworld, Earthrealm and this new land - has weakened the boundaries of reality, and should Shang Tsung succeed in his goal, then the Armageddon prophesied by the sorceress Delia will take place. I cannot stand by and watch as the realms tear each other apart. I must rally the Forces of Light, along with our allies from the new realm, and stop Shang Tsung’s unholy rampage before it is too late.
Kung Lao
Shao Kahn’s death put to rest my desire for vengeance for the death of my ancestor, who died at the hands of Goro many years ago. With his reign of terror over, I could concentrate on reforming the White Lotus society of monks, left in disarray after the second tournament. I had originally been looking forward to a time of peace and prosperity after the terror of Shao Kahn, but now I must put that aside as chaos once again begins, this time under the hand of Shang Tsung.
A new world is under threat, and Shang has quite literally brought it to it’s knees – Baraka and his Tarkatans roam and kill as they please, Kahn’s former minions now serve to force the populace into slavery and the sorcerer grows stronger by the day. Under Raiden’s counsel, Liu Kang and I have turned the Wu Shi temple into a home for those left homeless by the Tarkatan rampages. But even with the assistance of warriors from the new realm, the White Lotus cannote handle all of the refugees.
The only way in which peace can be restored to the realm is if the source of the problem is destroyed. I have left with Liu Kang to seek out Shang Tsung, knowing that the monks can take care of things while we are gone. But while Liu challenges his old foe, I shall confront Baraka, the monster responsible for spilling the blood of so many innocents. For the Shaolin!
Shang Tsung
Finally, the realms all belong to me! To tell the truth, I had not put much faith in the ancient sorcery that opened the portals to the new realm, but now that I know what I am capable of, nothing can stop me any longer! This new realm trembles at my doings – the Tarkatans enforce my will, my allies Baraka, Kano, Mileena and Reptile slay those who dare stand against me and my power increases tenfold with every day! Truly, I am a worthy heir to the throne of Shao Kahn –perhaps even to all the realms!
But there is only one problem. Raiden and the Forces of Light still defy my rule, working to force me from this new realm and put an end to my konquest. Liu Kang, my old adversary, Jax, leader of the Special Forces, Sub-Zero, the renegade ninja... they all still stand against me. Worse, some of these “Street Fighters” whom I personally arranged to cross over into our world have sided with the Earthrealm warriors instead of fighting them, as I had originally planned. Surely, they do not think they can destroy me so easily?!
If I want something to be done right, then I must do it myself, apparently. I shall hunt down each and every member of this resistance and destroy them, clearing the way for my rise to Supreme Emperor of all the realms. No-one can stop me! All shall die by the hand of Shang Tsung!
Sub-Zero
As a reward for my aid in the destruction of Shao Kahn, Raiden had granted me leadership of the Lin Kuei mountain clan, the original Grandmaster slain by the cyborg warriors he originally sent to kill me. But my newfound authority does nothing for my suspicions of the ninja spectre Scorpion – a man who betrays the emperor of Outworld may betray the Forces of Light just as easily. I also knew that he still sought the man who slaughtered his wife, child and clan, and his restless wanderings drew much concern from the others.
I was tracking him through the Living Forests of Outworld one particular day when a portal ripped open in front of him. Suspicious, he walked through it, and I peered after him, curious as to what was going on. To my shock, Scorpion was now in the throne room of the new emperor, the sorcerer Shang Tsung, and they were deep in conversation. Although I could not tell much of what was being said, I managed to catch a few words from the emperor himself.
“Killed... family... murderer... Ryu Hoshi.”
Terror hit me like a well-hardened club. Evidently, Shang Tsung had deceived Scorpion into believing that the same, pure-hearted Ryu, who had joined the Forces of Light moments ago was the killer of his family and clan! Heart beating, I turned from the portal and ran back the way I came, away from the scene. I now find myself in a cruel race against time – and Scorpion - to reach Ryu first. If the spectre will not listen to reason, then I have no choice but to face him in Mortal Kombat...
Reptile
For years, I have known myself to be the last of my kind, a remnant of the former realm of Zaterra. Why, then, have I survived when my race was destroyed in the battles between Raiden and Shinnok? It is by serving only the strongest rulers that I have found my place in the world. Now that my new master, Shang Tsung has taken over this new realm, I serve as a general in his armies, accompanying Baraka as we slaughter the innocent weaklings that dare stand before us.
I destroyed many as we stormed through this new realm, and I truly thought myself to my invincible. I was a fool to let my guard down, for I was immediately confronted by the almost ethereal, yet sadistic warrior known only as Urien. It seemed that there was at least one person here who had dispensed with the pathetic ideals of mercy and compassion, and fought as I did. I was brutally beaten into submission by this man, and it was only by Baraka’s interference that I survived, limping off the battlefield to lick my wounds.
Urien has brought shame to my people and disgraced what honour I had. I can no longer serve under Shang Tsung while that man lives. I shall personally see to it that he no longer lives to befoul the reputation of my kind ever again.
Kitana
I remember a simpler time, when the people of Edenia could live free and happy, without the fear of oppression from Outworld and its ruthless rulers. Since Kahn’s demise at the hands of Liu Kang, our champion, I though the day would come when we all could shrug the years of terror form our shoulders. But when Raiden informed me that Shang Tsung had taken the throne and had invaded a new realm, I realized that day would have to wait.
When I exited the portal that would take me to the new world, I witnessed Mileena and her band of Tarkatan followers harassing a pair of innocents. So, it seemed that Kahn’s followers had survived the final battle against the followers of Light. They had evidently grown in power as well – one of the citizens tried to resist them, but was brutally killed by a single Tarkatan warrior, which we would consider mere cannon fodder. The other – his brother – was accosted and dragged away.
I now understand why Raiden had reason to fear the oncoming Armageddon – Shang Tsung is more of a power-hungry tyrant than Kahn ever was. After meeting with the others, it was agreed that we all split up and find ways to undermine the sorcerer’s grip on the new land. I myself shall work to free the prisoners who slave under Mileena, my accursed half-sister, and lead them in a riot that will shake up the empire. Perhaps I may see that boy again.
Kano
If there’s one thing the Black Dragon’s good at, it’s opportunities. Baraka and his band of freaks swap sides because they can’t afford to look after themselves – I swap sides because it’s good for business. I was training Kahn’s minions in the use of Earthrealm’s weapons before his death, and managed to hide from that crazed bitch Sonya Blade in the confusion. Now, I have a swanky new job under Shang Tsung as Chief Technician, supplying goods and weapons for the troops from every branch of the Black Dragon.
I ran into one of those Street Fighter weirdoes when I was leading a raid on a nearby village – some Russian wrestler called Zangief or something. I was beaten to a near pulp before he’d let me go, but I’d got what I wanted. The Special Forces had been hiding some old Lin Kuei technology, salvaged from the cyborgs Cyrax and Sektor after the final battle. Shang needed it – as well as a mind like mine – in order to complete a little pet project of his – a weapon that will strike fear into the hearts and minds of all under his domain.
After a little knocking about, the thing’s almost finished. All I need now is someone to test it out on, and I reckon that psycho Sonya will make a great target, although any one of those Street Freaks will do. Once the tests are complete, it’s gonna be me who leads Shang’s armies into battle, and not that simpering fool Reptile or that insipid Mileena. You’d all better watch out, cause Kano’s after you – and he’s got a new ace up his sleeve!
Mileena
Kitana! The blood boils in my veins whenever I hear the name of my cursed half-sister. It was she who organised the final destruction of my surrogate father Shao Kahn and nearly killed me during that battle, and who even now defies my right to the throne of Edenia! Were it not for the intervention of the new Emperor, Shang Tsung, I would have spent the rest of my life in a mindless stupor of rage. But even as I serve my new master, plots of revenge against Kitana boil in my mind.
My chance came during the invasion of the new world, when assisting Kano in seizing technology from a nearby warehouse. The thuggish oaf had been appointed as my overseer by Shang Tsung, in case I should try something rash – the old fool never trusted me – but during the attack Kano was assaulted by a huge man, apparently a mighty warrior in his realm of Russia. While the idiot Kano got practically tied into knots, I slipped away from the carnage and ran until I had lost sight of the village.
Now I am free from being constantly monitored, I can pursue my true quest – the death of Kitana. Local gossip has it that Raiden and his allies have joined forces with a band of rebels from this world, hoping to overthrow Shang Tsung. Kitana must be with them – and I will not stop until I have spread her blood over every inch of the battleground!
Jax
The name’s Jackson Briggs, but you can just call me Jax. Or “Major”. I’m the head of the Special Forces – that’s the division of the army that deals with invasions from Outworld and other stuff. Things got pretty quiet around here after Liu Kang finished off Shao Kahn back in the third tournament, so all the boys decided to take a quick vacation off the coast of Italy, have a little R-n-R. What could have gone wrong?
Talk about tempting fate. Second I turn my back to get the ice cream, who should show up but that ugly freak Baraka, and he’d brought his friends with him. We managed to fight them off, but they gave as a real stuggle – I never knew Tarkatans could be so damn tough. Before he ran off, he said something about conquest and Emperor Shang Tsung – Yep, that caught me off guard, too. I never knew the little creep had it in him.
Ever since Sonya left on shore leave, I haven’t seen her for ages. But I know for damn sure that she’s probably somewhere on Shang’s List of People for Certain Slaughter. I got a list of my own, and there’s three things to do on it – One: find Sonya and warn her. Two: find all the others and get a resistance movement going, and Three: kick Shang’s sorry ass all the way into next week. Good thing I’ve still got my cyber-arms or I’d be in trouble!
Sonya
Although I had succeeded in my secondary mission of defeating Shao Kahn, I had failed in locating and terminating Kano as per Special Forces orders. He had vanished during the final battle with Kahn’s extermination squads, and I had assumed that he had been killed one way or another. For a time, I allowed myself to be content with this as peace came to Earthrealm, but the knowledge that he could still be alive haunted me, and as much as Jax tried to console me, I still felt restless, as if I had failed in my duty.
I guess I had good reason to be wary – in the scrum, we had forgotten Shang Tsung, Kahn’s right-hand goon and personal advisor. Now, he has succeeded the throne of Outworld, and has commanded squads of Tarkatans to invade a new realm, killing in order to satisfy his lust for souls. In this new realm a warriors who call themselves the “Street Fighters”, who are remarkably powerful for normal humans. Some perceive us to be threats to their world, while others have joined Raiden’s forces to stop Shang Tsung’s scheme.
But I’ve got a much bigger problem. Recent reports suggest that Kahn’s old generals now work for the sorcerer, and lead the Tarkatans into battle. Among them is none other than Kano – he is still alive! Despite what Jax has told me, and what Raiden demands of me, I’m not going to let the battle between realms interfere with my true mission – to eliminate the last of the Black Dragon clan and end their reign of terror. Dead or alive, Kano is coming with me!
Johnny Cage
The name’s Cage, Johnny Cage. Movie star, hero and all-around cool guy – that’s me! That is, until I was killed during a scuffle with Kahn’s execution squads during the third Mortal Kombat tournament. My soul couldn’t ascend to the astral plane due to the merging of Outworld and Earthrealm, so all I could do was watch as my buddies kicked the crap out of Kahn. Man, that sucked – there were times when really wanted to get down there and help, and yet I couldn’t because I had no body. Real downer, you know?
So anyway, there I was, strolling about in the heavens and being me (as usual) when there was a sudden crack of thunder and all the scenery began twisting up. There was a lot of panicking from the other souls, a few flashes of light and next thing I know I’m sitting on the floor in the Wu Shi temple, alive and with a new body! It was just about then that Liu Kang came in, with a new friend he’d found in another realm – “Ryu”, or some funny Japanese name like that. He sees me, shouts out and I’m suddenly being mobbed by my old friends!
It seems old Shang Tsung has been busy while I was gone, trying to conquer another realm for himself. But his sudden boost in magic ability doesn’t explain anything about why I’m alive now – some weird energy has yanked me back into existence, and there’s no trace of the sorcerer’s black magic on me. I’m going to find out why I’m alive again, and for what purpose, and anyone who gets in my way had better watch out!
Baraka
People call us barbarians and turncoats. This only proves their stupidity and their right to a painful death. We Tarkartans merely serve the strongest, as it has been for generations. It is why we still live when others crumble and fall around us. Shao Kahn was not strong enough, and so we turned our allegiance to Shang Tsung, who rules us with strength and iron. He is a good ruler, and I would not have any other.
It is Shang Tsung who has brought us to this new realm, this painful mockery of the pitiful Earthrealm. It’s people are weak, their flesh soft and their bones brittle. They present no challenge to our forces. But there are some who have souls of metal, minds and bodies tempered by fighting, and they are strong. We discovered this when we stormed a building, looking for information for our master. These warriors killed good Tarkartans, but it was evident they did not wish to finish it properly. They will make good opponents, or failing that, good sport.
I have been assigned on a mission from Shang Tsung himself. I must eliminate these “Street Fighters” along with the foes that oppose us. No-one will stop me from accomplishing this. I live for the spilling of blood! I am Baraka! And I will enjoy killing each and every fool who dares challenge the might of the Takartan race!

Ermac
We are Ermac. We are a fusion of the souls of dead Outworld warriors, created by Shao Kahn to serve as his enforcer and obey without question. We fought on his side during the Mortal Kombat Tournament many years ago, but the combined efforts of Raiden and his allies were too much for us, and we could only watch as Kahn was killed by the warrior monk Liu Kang. Torn from our servitude, we wandered the realms aimlessly, seeking stronger warriors to fight and prove our strength.
It wasn’t long before incidents began occurring that have our attention. Over the past few months, we have noticed a great fluctuation in our telekinetic powers that has been occurring ever since Shang Tsung took the throne of Outworld. Some days we are strong enough to lift entire buildings above our heads, and other times we have no strength at all. Also, rumours of portals to a strange new world have been circulating, along with stories of fighting beyond those portals.
If the rumours stand true, then the source of interference must lie in the strange world. We shall have to personally enter this new realm and find the source of the energy that is disrupting us. We shall not let anyone stand in our way, and we shall treat all hostility the same way we treated enemies of Shao Kahn – with brutal retribution.
Chameleon
I am Chameleon, once an inhabitant of a distant realm which I left many years ago to serve under Shao Kahn, Emperor of Outworld. It was during Kahn’s reign in this world that I learned to mimic the abilities of the strongest warriors, a natural trait of my species, and allied myself with many powerful fighters. However, the Thunder God Raiden led an attack on Kahn’s fortress during the Mortal Kombat tournament, and my master was killed by the warrior monk Liu Kang. This matters not to me, for now I am free to choose my own destiny, and pursue my urges as they come to me.
I have been ever present during the battles between Outworld and Earthrealm, hidden in the shadows and waiting to strike, but this conflict is something new to me. It appears that Shang Tsung, Kahn’s old advisor, has taken Outworld’s throne for himself, and has opened portals to a strange new realm in order to expand his territories. This realm is occupied by warriors they call “Street Fighters”, who possess power far beyond a normal human can muster. While some fight for the Emperor, others have joined Raiden in an attempt to drive Shang Tsung out.
This battle between sides is none of my concern, however. I have detected a source of energy far greater than even Shang Tsung could muster. I suspect that there is a warrior out there with power equal to mine, if not greater. He or she shall make good sport, and once I tire I shall simply snap their necks and take their power for my own. All the realms will know Chameleon as the true champion of Mortal Kombat!
That be all for now, later! ;)

nice story line :P
