ok here are my thoughts on the matter: ssf4/mvc3/t6/bb are definites mk is in because of company promotion(mcribs) ah3 isnt in cause its dead and its time has passed nobody cares about sf2 anymore :( snk is retarded :ball:

It's cause the past few MK games aren't exactly the most balanced games in the world. Deception is a 50/50 mixup fest. Armageddon has style cancel infinites. While MK vs DC is a bit more balanced than these games, it has it's own share of ridiculous combos

Did BlazBlue become more balanced all of a sudden? I wouldn't know, I haven't played videogames in over two years.
I personally hate looking at games like Arcana Heart, BlazBlue, Melty Blood, Guilty Gear, etc. It's like a flashy show of effects and silly looking air combos to me. Hated MvC2. Somehow, though, I'm intrigued by MvC3... :S

First of all i am not a "MK Fanboy" but i like the franchise together with like 30 other fighting games. The GGXX Games were undiscutable better than any of the last MK games ..from a gameplay and gameplaytechnical perspective far far better. But is the GG series as successful as MK, or will it ever be?
Hell the last 3 or 4 MK games even outsold the Virtua Fighter games by far, which is a shame but it is like that.
You guys can repeat your "only for the gore" blabla as often as you want if it makes you feeling better. Its bullshit nontheless.

Back home from SS, feet killing me and can't get a seat to save one's self there. Daigo was apparently a no-show, Tokido's signed up with Mad Catz, and he'll still be with the Travelling Circus as well.
Mike Ross couldn't believe how all arcades in Australia are $2/credit, and then threw away even more money betting on first hits.

Well i got the patch and from what ive heard, and seen, alot of the issues did get fixed, as well as some buffs/nerfs that were fairly reasonable

I followed the link to look up this evo thing people are talking about, but I can't quite figure out what Evo is here... But people here are talking about all sorts of fighting game series having some part in this.... So my question is, what is evo tournament? Is it a "best fighting game" competition or something? If so, how do they decide the winner? Is it like an ultimate tournament where chars from all different fighting games (whichever are chosen on their list anyhow) can enter? What is it exactly?

I missed a fair bit of the ECT stream, it seems. Also, from what I've heard so far the competitive level of SS is blowing ECT out of the water; people are asking for double Evo points from SS. Sort of a shame, because looking at the results it was a mix of characters I wouldn't mind seeing more competitive play of: Viper, Guile, Ibuki, Fuerte...

Basic rules are each team of six is led by a captain. Each captain selects a team member to fight. Once a team member takes two losses, that team member is eliminated. Yeah the stream was really laggy over here as well. Missed all the final matches. I guess you guys are talking about that command "glitch" that involves Hawkeye right? It's been known for a while that you have to let go the directional inputs as soon as you pull off the super, otherwise when you try to DHC you get a DP instead. It's a command buffering "feature" actually.

Bar Fights 11 starting momentarily. Much awaited rival match between Mike "Mike Ross" Ross and Andre "FC Jago" Lambert in UMVC3 and a couple other cool things like a SFxTekken stream by The Box Arena, if you're into that sorta thing.

5 - 0. Seriously, such an upset. This new Knives guy did better. Sure he dropped combos but he's new to the scene, I know that feeling, being nervous equals tons of execution errors, other than that he did some nice Spencer Combos. My only HUGE issue with him are some really fucking random Bionic Lancers.
I wanted to see Jago bodied by Combofiend, oh well.
Edit: Ah, I should hang out at The Box Arena more often... but next quarter I'll have class on Saturdays, ugh.

No real surprises here: No Tekken because they're stuck in new game limbo like they were in 2009. No Blazblue because it was arguably the least well received event on last year's card, and how little time they're going to get with it prior. SFxT despite the little time prior because it's a Capcom game. MK because it was friggin hype as hell.
Surprised to see OzHadou on the Road To Evo, but then I remembered Shadowloo Showdown has become a season-long event in its own right with its world qualifiers.

I already have enough of their BS with the whole tier lists to deal with all this. You think the art will grow on you? Well, good for you. In my case I don't think so, it happened with Melty Blood after a week or so but with this game? No way, I utterly hate the style the game has.
I dont really trust Mike Z anyway, being a pro at games doesn't make you a pro at creating them unless you study ALOT. Did you see the disastrous collision boxes this game has? To a point it's even WORSE than Blazblue's. Not to mention game lacks impact everywhere.
Gameplay wise I'm ok with it, but it's kinda hard for me to even want to play this game when I hate the entire cast and drawing style. A game is supposed to be interesting for you at first sight, you don't HAVE to have to play it for hours and hours to like everything. That's the part where several videogames AND MAINLY animes fail (Having to wait for several chapters to finally get to an interesting part). And wtf Ragna was interesting since day 1, no need to play story mode or anything, his damn personality just flows through him via voice acting and moves. It's more than I can say about most of the SG cast.

Mike Z has a hell of a game development resume, even though I only remember on his resume one game that I loved. He helped make Battlefront II. THE Battlefront II, instant classic. He HAS to be good right? On another note, the art is fine and fluid and I really don't see what the hell is wrong with you or anyone else to judge a fighting game of all kinds of games by it's art. That's not what it's even about. The collision boxes can't be any worse than MvC3's either, well collision circles in MvC's case. My only beef with Skullgirls is too much estrogen but as a fighting game I'm not even worried about that, because the game is about the fighting, and it does it well. The characters are diverse, they all bring something new to the plate, and the mechanics of the game are great, and that's the only thing you should be worried about if you asked me.

no, I should be worried about the aesthetics as much as the gameplay. I dont know a single guy who plays a videogame he considers as "really ugly". Do you play games you consider ugly? I know "graphic < gameplay" and all that but there's a limit even for that. No one who doesn't like SG's artwork should play it. Because you will never get good at a game you don't even like to watch.
If somebody decides to not to play the game because of the ugly art style or character design it's his call. I know there's people who actually ENJOY Shaq Fu so I don't think it's weird at all to see people liking skullgirls.
Also very good! Battlefront II! I bet that helps alot to develop a FIGHTING GAME right? and MVC3's CLSN is nowhere near as bad as skullgirls', just go check SRK or something like that and see for yourself.
Hey! we may as well replace all the chars in SFXTK for stickmen! After all it's all about the gameplay right? I bet you wont care if everybody looks like ugly stickmen! After all it's not about that! And for the record these are stickmen that move at 60 frames per second!!! :o

Let me sum it up as: Everything you said is bullshit. The game has received praise from 99% of the people who played it, including those who went into it with skepticism. And this approval rating consists of both normal players as well as tourney players. The game is not just being balanced by Mike Z, but countless tourney players from both the Blazblue, and Marvel scenes have play tested the game, offered advice for improvement, and helped polish the move sets and gameplay. What you said about the hit boxes is bullshit. The creator has studied fighters "A LOT", probably more then anybody who actually makes the games ever did. Aesthetics are of zero importance to gameplay. Not one of my many fighting game fan friends shares your opinion. The only valid time when one might not play a game because of aesthetics, is when the game approaches eldritch abomination levels of ugly, with each screen being a screaming and writhing pile of flesh, anuses, and fecal matter. And don't get cute and say that's what Skullgirls is because it's not. I would very much prefer to play Mvc2 with stick figures over Mvc3 any day of the week.
I didn't thoroughly read your post, because seeing someone write 6 paragraphs on how they refuse to like a fighting game (of all genres dayum) based on aesthetics, while making a few complaints that proves only that they know nothing about the gameplay, and have no desire to learn anything about it, was kinda starting to make my brain melt. And I'm pretty sure anybody with enough CLSN knowledge will agree with me when it comes to the collision boxes of this game, they are just plain awful. While I'm at it I'll go to EVO and make it 3rd or 4th place so then tourneyfags will eat all the BS I'll spread about game mechanics.

lol that's not the point. I meant "X game" -> replace chars for stick game -> see if you and the tourney players will still play it. I highly doubt it in the case of Street Fighter and MVC for example. It's natural for the people to not to take a game seriously when they don't like the graphics.

You can't say anything about the huge lack of impact in both graphic and sounds, the hits look even weaker than in Big Bang Beat (I'd rather replace the sound effects with tennis sounds) and the hitsparks look really weak (But credit where's due, the dynamic lighting is awesome).
But hell if I say anything about the gameplay I'm sure I would have the same problem with most of you, except this time I know how shitty the CLSN is yet everybody chose to ignore that complain and just focus on the graphics stuff. Because there's no way you can defend the shitty collision boxes the game has, seriously. What's next? "clsn is not part of the gameplay?" Go on say it so we can all have a good laugh.

by the way the collisions thing is still bullshit. Because I looked through the official part of srk for the game and couldn't find anything regarding collision information. I'v been following the game since nearly 10 monthes ago, I'v watched every srk front page video on the game since then, I'v read through the srk forums on the game, and I have yet to see anything like what you are describing. It's either a forgery made by a troll, or something from january or so before I started following the game. In which case, it is most likely already gone. As I said, the game has been extensively play tested and changed based on feedback from tourney players and regulars alike. Whatever you saw most likely no longer exists. And in the numerous, numerous, NUMEROUS pre release streams, matches, tournaments, and gameplay footage (this game has probably gotten more pre-release play then any other fighter in years) I have never seen anything homogenius happen with hitboxes, or anybody playing complain about the hitboxes.

I'm looking at some of the official hitbox viewer screenshots on srk's wiki, and everything seems fine. http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Skullgirls/Practice_Room In fact, those are some of the cleanest hitboxes I'v seen in a while. I'll keep looking though, to see if I can find and disprove what you're talking about.

Tell you what, show me the ten worst collisions for the game, and the source for these collisions, and I'll go to the srk q&a thread for the game. I'll post them there, and ask if they are real and the source valid, and if so are they still like that, and if so, why are they like that. Mike Z himself, or one of the mods from Reverge can respond.

That tournament was something else! I can't believe how star struck I was at seeing a lot of the pros! Ricky Ortiz, iPeru, Floe, Alex Valle, Justin Wong UltraDavid, JamesChen, and even Filipino Champ! I even met Yipes in the bathroom and got a picture with Mike Ross and Gootecks! (Flash Metroid took the picture I hit on his girlfriend on accident.
I think out of all the pros, Skisonic was one of the most helpful. He actually took the time to talk to me (which was a surprise since most of the pros didn't waste their time).
There was another pro who took the time to talk to me as well (claimed he was a watered down Wolfkrone (C. Viper player as well)) who spent even more time talking with me about certain match ups, other players playstyles, how to counter what, ChrisG and Filipino Champ getting super salty on streams, etc. I suck, if only I could remember his name! >:(
Oh, and I met AnthonyGamer. He's a pretty chill dude, we had a few laughs at some of the things happening at the tournament like Justin playing with his mouth open or how short most of the pro players were.
But enough about that, I bet you want to know how well I placed...

I fucking sucked. I was so nervous and so hopped up on 4 bottles on NOS I couldn't concentrate. I dropped combos like a motherfucker and was laughed at by a majority of the spectators. I lost to a Rose and a Adon and was knocked out of the tournament... :(

There's your problem. I drank a 5-hour energy drink during a local tournament and most of my execution was gone (See: Dropped bold cancel combos)
Don't do that, those drinks are terrible. Save them for when you have to study or something.
thanks for the advice. I'll keep that in mind for CEO in June. I'll be participating in more local tourneys too so I'm not so nervous with 20+ spectators.

Yeah, our matches weren't streamed. Just like Duo, I lost both of my matches as well. My first match was close. I'll upload it to my youtube page when I get a chance. A tough Ibuki player. Went 1-2 against him. My second loss came from and Sagat player that used Ultra 2. I haven't played any Sagat's that use that Ultra, so he was catching me with it. Couldn't adapt in time and went 0-2.
After being forced to stand next to my pool(Disgusting crowd) and wait over 3 hours in one spot just to play 2 matches(Only 1 TV), I was exhausted. That NOS drink didn't help at all on the second day. The heat next to the pools was horrible. When I moved away from my pool for air, Duo walked up and greeted me. I had my first smile of the day when he showed up. Thanks Duo. :) I was so close to leaving before my first match.
I left around 3pm in the afternoon(I left after 12 midnight on the first day 0_0). Duo mentioned playing SF2, but my mom had wondered off somewhere. Found her close to the bathroom area outside of the venue and decided to skip playing UMVC3 and leave(DQ'd). I'm not a MVC player, so I don't know why I even entered it. Only know how to use Wolverine and Frank West.
The first day was amazing. The second day was bad. Mainly because of how badly organized the pools area was.
Some of the matches were awesome and hype as hell though. Mostly the stream ones. Anyway, I'm going back for day 3. Going to stay until the end again this time.

Day 3 was incredible!! I didn't really like KOF until I seen the finals today. ShinBlade's amazing comeback during the finals had me and everyone so hyped.

Combofiend. The picture was taken by MastaCJ. We took a better picture, but as I headed back in the venue, I noticed the cameras screen was frozen. MastaCJ made the screen freeze on accident somehow and I lost the best picture with Combofiend.
Basically an article on Kusoru, his victory in UMvC3 and japanese views on games like marvel, interesting read all around.
The KoF matches on sunday were great. I also didn't expect in the middle of all of those HD mode combos to find a situation where a couple of players would spend about half a minute just cancelling each other's projectiles with Kyo (one of the guys was a Steve H, I think? Went Kyo/Terry/Ryo in his games), which looked comparatively noobish but amusing.
Things are looking up for KoF's tournament future, I hope that MLG/NCR split thing won't be too big an issue, and that the attendance at EVO will surpass all expectations.

So, at NorCal Regionals Mike Ross got eliminated by Air in Top 16.
I was dumbfounded. I mean, it's not like Mike Ross is godlike or something, but I knew nothing about Air ... until today. Turns out Cross Counter TV (Gootecks and Mike Ross) produced a DVD about Air's Guide to mastering Ryu

Watching that video I linked to (Air's Guide to Ryu (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcMVI-7cn04&t=1h1m58s), specially the option selects section after that) makes me realize the difference between them.
Mike is a very visceral player (watching Cross Counter, Excellent Adventures or Focus will show you how upset he gets, and how he battles the pressure) while Air is just so damn technical.

Its sucks for me because I have to either use my arcade stick which I still have problems with execution wise or use a ps2 controller that has a stiff dpad compared to my own ps3 pad.

So half of the electricity at the venue went out lol so everybody is playing on the right side.
I got kicked out of my team and replaced by Chrisg(he came late and magman is an asshole )
So I formed a last minute (literally) team of me, my friend fresh and some random guy. We lost our first match because I decided to try the ps2 pad.. dropped all my combos. Fresh was coming back for us but he eventually lost. In losers waiting for more teams so we can play again.
I'm very mad right now at magman btw, this guy is a straight bitch.

fun times.. but man chris g plays so gay. But i got much respect for him now though. Hes a really cool dude, i thought he was gonna be like a typical douchey new york player or something but hes not(some of his friends are though). he got top in every game and won 3(1,099$ in total).
oh yea the best part of the whole weekend was hanging out in the salty suite getting fucked up and playing some video games

Not really a big deal, three other members in my fgc got in aswell. All you gotta do is be responsible with the 64 entry pool they assign you. Good luck, hopefully you have experience running brackets and stuff

What kind of credentials does one have to have to present himself as a candidate, you know, besides being a FG fan?
Is there something measurable that could contribute to them considering you for the position ("hey, I have so and so player points in SF4") ?

For credentials, I have ran youth and adult tournament soccer games for five years. I know how tournaments work, I know how competitive people can get, I can tell the difference between trash talk and aggression, I can keep time, I know how long to delay matches, etc, etc... Not to mention that I have attended lots of tournaments in Georgia so I have an understanding of how these tournaments work.
Now dally it up, write an essay about why you'd be a good candidate, have a college professor proof read it, and voila! ;)
As for being good at fighting games, I dont really think so. As long as you have a good understanding of the game, what every character is capable of, know the glitches that are exploitable (SFxT is going to be a hassle), then Im sure your good to go.

The winners of the UMvC3 3v3, in cooperation with Tougeki, will each earn blue tickets to compete in the UMvC3 singles tournament at Tougeki 2012.

"San Diego's own ninja" lol At Grand Finals, it felt almost as if the commentators were rooting for you :P The palettes you used were pretty neat, Walachia Duo Lon, Iori Kyo ^.^
At the Bracket Reset round, that Yuri - Kyo where you had no health, there was a moment where you missed a short jump to a normal forward jump in the corner, and lost the pressure you were applying ... but the odds were against you anyway, so no need to beat yourself over that.
Also when you were at the offensive, he got you several times with counter air-kicks. You know you have to time your air attacks differently if you're going VS air than VS a standing opponent. You had to make a choice out of 2 possible ones, where as he only had 1 that could go on reaction, and beat you many times with it. I think the commentators noticed that too at some point.
I see what you mean about him being too goddamn good. In the end he was more effective with all those hit-confirm pokes with Leona, while your Duo Lon tried to be more of a trickster in strategy, but less effective overall. Also, that guy's meter management was part of his gameplan strategy, where as you were kinda stocking up for special occasions (or at least that was the impression I got)

Well, problem is that Vice has one of the easiest hit-confirms into HD in the game (Jumping blowback into EX arm, it doesn't even have to be a counter-hit) I dropped HD combos and some punishes, there was a lot in my mind (My laptop has been crashing lately and I have to do homework). The guy barely dropped stuff, he deserved to win (Also, I got careless because I sent that guy to losers during my second match) Another problem is that Kyo has a terrible jumping blowback so it was pretty hard to get in (Chin's is actually decent, except for the short range. Duolon's is fantastic)
I disagree with a couple of things that the commentators were saying, after teleporting from rekkas I only have TWO follow ups. Standing C/D to teleport or EX super. It HAS to be EX, regular super doesn't juggle unless you link the move from a qcb+p, and that's impossible after a rekka unless you drive cancel in the corner. You're absolutely right about meter management though. I just have to practice some more hit-confirms and learn to play under pressure. On work on the match up against Leona and Vice.
During grand finals everyone was rooting for me, except for the stream organizer, he was pissed because he didn't know KOF matches were that long and he wanted to stream the only game he plays (AE)

It wasn't a double KO, it was a time over draw. FChamp drew a game against an up-and-comer called Tayson, when Tayson was up 2-1. Most games treat a draw as a win for both sides, so Tayson and half the crowd thought Tayson won the matchup 3-2 and eliminated FChamp. FChamp's buddies said they had to run it back because elimination from a draw isn't gangsta enough, and Yipes agreed. Tayson was mindbroken and lost the next two games, FChamp wins, Tayson goes home, everyone shitty at Yipes and FChamp for robbing the newcomer.
Also Combofiend called someone a faggot onstream and a bunch of homosexuals are pissed at him. For what it's worth he hasn't yet stopped apologizing.

Nice lineup this year, I guess the community is ready to give SFxT another chance or at least got enough entrants often enough to get put in the main 5. Hopefully that 2012 patch makes it that much better.

i came 30 minutes late. Ive been going to several east coast tournaments and they never start on time. Several people got dq'd i believe roughly around 15+ in marvel alone. I was really upset at first., sat down in the lobby and waited for the bar to open. had some drinks and went back to the ballroom. Saw some of my friends play and do well. Made about 21 dollars in profits from side betting. I eventually played insayne(who was in my pool with justin) and lost 7-2. I wasnt playing like my self at all because i was still very upset of what happened to me early. Talked to fanatiq for a bit, turns out hes never gonna come back to another big e tournament because of what happened. But all aside i had an alright time. Yipes pissed me off, he got out played bad and went yolo at the end against unknown, who got mindfucked on game 5 and lost.. you can watch the match here
im the one saying "thats the joe kim"(hes a maryland who does nutty things with spencer), because you cant clearly see what happen ill explain, viper was setting up an oki against spencer (focus attack) spencer comes in and immediately does down grapple(which isnt safe and yolo dolo)unknown doesnt understand why yipes would do that(because spencer grapple isnt a grab move, its a physical, which viper focus attack can absorb with no problem) unknown goes for ex seismo, fucks up his input and gets hit with the yolo grapple and loses.

Shabrys' IK connected, LK got pressure, pause menu, everyone cheer for Nanaken.
Mystery tournament was the best. Soul Calibur 2 using DDR mats, 90's games like Kizuna Encounter, Last Bronx, and such, Lethal Leagues (a flash game!) surprisingly ended up the most hype.

Okay, question: Who are guys rooting for? I don't really know a lot of the players, but I'm not really fond of players who nicknames start with EG.
Also, a drinking game for SFxT: Drink every time you see a a Law, Nina, or Paul. Drink for every negative SFxT comment you see on the chat. Down your drink if there is an Asian player.

i always root for my friends and they always seem to do well. My friend kenninblack is the best skullgirl player in the world so i have no doubt hes taking skullgrils. Huoshen and unknown are gonna have a tough time but i have no doubt they will get out of pools in winners and progress far in the tournament. As for the exhibition between green ace vs pr rog.. i want greenace to win because thats my otter......but he will most likely lose :(

Null Brown was warned (I believe) since that incident with SV, and just couldn't keep his temper in check. If he isn't banned, and still have supporters that keep letting him in their tourneys, then I lost hope for the MvC3 community. This can't go unnoticed.

yes but the reason i believe hes responsible is because of the vxg carribbean tournament that is 2 weeks after evo. Last year it was pretty big but not alot of people went because they didnt have the funds for it because they spent it going to evo.

Ok, that Triforce guy is pretty smart. Just checked out the website (http://www.thevideoxgames.com/). Not just fighting games, but shooters and sports (and Brawl!) The turnout will be huge, and not many notable FGC players may not even attend.
And the pay for this tournament is really good.

I'm well aware the "Special Presentation" is probably something Capcom related. Hopefully it's a new game announcement, although probably it'll be an OFFICIAL SF4 WORLD WARRIOR TOURNAMENT if the latest reports and Ono-trollpics are any indication of that.
Imagine that. At this point, pretty much all technology has been explored in that game, so it'd be a great moment to bring out the big guns - pull everyone together, and make one last tournament to rule them all.

Fanatiq doesn't play the game anymore and dedicated the last couple of weeks on marvel to beat this guy. Hes been playing with various of high level players including fchamp, unknown, rayray, marn etc. This is why me and various people had so much faith in him. He takes his money matches seriously and from what I've been told has never lost one.

Dude that was American salt through and through. Nemo downloaded him in two rounds and just messed around with the same team. He did it cause he could, in a room full of drunk people who were blowing up Natiq. He just gave em what they want. Whose fault is it that nigga couldn't block standing jab spam? No player needs to show off his tech when he has to deal with scrubs like that lol. Fanatiq switched teams like 4 times. Got straight bodied every time. This inherently makes him way worse than Nemo. People on twitter seem to unanimously agree he got fucking destroyed by the better player. None of that "high level training" worked at all. He can't make up for the skill gap in such a short time. Every hit he got was fraudulent? Seems like an excuse. How about every missed opportunity to block Fanatiq had?
Not to be on Nemo's nuts or anything, but the guy is a solid top-tier player and Fanatiq is just a joke who causes drama everywhere he goes. The fact Knives did better than him says tons.

Meh... this year's line feels "safe;" I mean every one of them was pretty much expected. Would've been nice to see a curveball thrown somewhere (AC+R, DoA, Skullgirls)... whatever.

KOF 1994 however was released in August as far as a i know and there are rumors about a new game since summer last year.

I feel that they went with a nice mix of old and new games for this year's event. It does feel weird not to see a 3D fighter in the mix, but I assume that there's a side tourny for some of those games.
Few questions come to mind for me though: -Can this year's KoF XIII tournament match the hype of last year's (I'm sorry, but I think Raynaud's comeback from an 0-2 hole to not only reset the bracket, but win the tournament was the hypest moment at EVO 2013 for me) -With a new patch long since out, will there be a lack of Superman in the Injustice tournament? -Can the new games (USF4 is basically an updated game, so it doesn't count here) produce any hype worthy moments?

Apparently the entire tournament was composed of only 20 players, everyone was doing ABC combos, the only guy who sorta knew how to play and was maining Joseph dropped easy as hell clacker juggles and did some pretty retarded Puttsun Cancel combos and he actually lost to a Jotaro who just picked up the game. Ugh, I wish I could've been there.

Because it's incredibly popular within both communities and CEO held an offer to allow it into the official lineup via twitter. The guy above me happens to know absolutely squat evidently.
Really though despite being a hack it's incredibly popular so they would've done it anyways.

Everything I said above still stands. P:M has existed for a long time and nothing has been done about it so they clearly do not care. Given that they just invited a part of the Melee community to an invitational tournament I think they know that C&Ding P:M would be incredibly suicidal. I also don't know where you got "usual" from but that's another story.
