well,hello there many peopla saw I was working on frank west for mugen (because I wanted to have him in my mugen roster and bla bla bla XD) well here´s a little preview of frank code progress http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQfyQkEVAsk&feature=feedu his coding style gonna be like mvc(or maybe I´ll change it for street fighter style I don´t know) obiusly he gonna fight like his appearence in umvc 3 but he gonna had more weapons and crazy shit like that ,and I m planing to put him some fatalities :D

Frank is Looking Really Awesome. You have done a Great Job with the sprites and im sure Nestor is going to do awesome job with the Coding as Well. Cant wait to see more progress :sugoi:

Well, the sprites are looking alright, plus its nice to see someone work on a Frank West for MUGEN. Are you going to incorporate the levelling system from UMVC3?
Hmm, I have an idea on a nice cameo palette based on another CAPCOM character...
Blue Jacket, Black Shirt, Olive Green Pants, and slightly brighter hair...

Here's my proposition for palette separation balmsold, hopefully you'll take it (it's based on some palettes made by Basara and Li Kun, thanks to both :) ). In this way, everything is separated.

Nope, Chuck Testa it's based in a gangster/yakuza outfit for Frank. I said in UMVC3 thread it looks like Yakuza's Kazuma Kiryu, but everyone else think he looks like Tony Montana

i find his normal stance leaning too much forward, it looks unnatural, his neck looks a bit long (his shoulder might be the cause of it, it looks separated from the rest of the body.)
i think the jacket is lacking some details, but that's just me. his legs also look short, i'd say it should be 2-3 pixels longer.

the legs are fine he is taller than ryu in tvc actually,and I would like to make his jacket more leathery but I didn´t really find a good reference

well this is an old sketch that I made long time ago and I wanted to animate it(with my skills now it would look smoother as a skullgirl animation,but I m a lazy ass XD)

Yeah this looks good just keep working to complete all your sprites. A lot of people request ZVitor and he usually comes through, you could try him. I saw somebody say that Cybaster is pretty fast with code too but I'm not sure if he takes requests to code chars and just focuses on giving feedback.
Just curious, if SeanAlty and the others are coding separate versions for their games, do you need a coder currently to put an alpha version or something or is this just for beta testers?

Well, Sean Penn and Sean Connery are not Mugen coders, and when saying "Sean" it's obvious people are talking about a real person and not "SF3 Sean", so yeah, we'd expect people to understand who others are talking about when referring to just Sean. :P

well weapons gonna be one of the hardest things,he gonna have the reaper instead of the paddlesaw(cause its chuck´s main combo weapon), ya know the reaper is frank´s main combo weapon, and I have to think about other combo weapons that frank could use

thanks,yeah but I m not sure about lot of zombies ,I want frank balanced so I m gonna do something like in tvc when he summon some zombies,about survivals he gonna have almost exactly the same weapons as he appeared in umvc3,just gonna change some things to make him a little different

How far have you done with the spriting? what have you got done? what do you have left to do? if you have all the sprites I want done, can you send it throught e-mail on a SFF file? if I have the sprites than I can finish the rest. I also have always wanted to do my own mugen character, I can do everything but spriting, Frank West is one of my favorite capcom characters and I miss him, if you can do that then that would be AWESOME and I would credit you for the sprites for sure. So can you do it? It would be great.
He covered wars ya know.

also I have a job as a pixel artist, so I´ll be able to work on frank just the weekends (but this week I have a ton of free time so fuck it) ,far now I have almost done the slam,and I´ll be able to work on some of his atacks ,don´t worry pal I´m gonna make this char the char of the year the next year >:(

Dude just wait...He just told you he was busy... I dont see why would he give you all of his hard work..I mean he really worked hard on these sprites..Drawing them from scratch. I wouldn't give you mine sprites especially if I planed on finishing this character. So please just chill out and wait...Or try learning how to make your own...Or maybe you can show you have some great skills when it comes to programing and convenience him that way.
Either way It doesn't sound like your bring anything to the table besides demands cause you cant wait. Give him a reason to want to give them to you at least. Otherwise you just sound like a impatience kid at the store.

as my partner said,I need to know how good you´re at coding because I can´t trust someone who say that is a coder and didn´t show his works or is a bad coder. I can´t give you any percentage of completition or a realease date because I´m still working on him,I had to re do some sprites,re do the shades and a bunch of other things so don´t expect a realease for this year,I still have to do a bunch of work on it. of course I understand, sorry for being so unpatient, like I said I love Frank West :) (and same as the spriter as he claims himself), this might sound selfish but it really for myself, my game, I never said that I would do the coding for the Capcom all star game(not even part of the team and not planning to do so.), I just wanted the sprites so I can make him myself, also I didn't mention before because this might sound rude but I also don't like sound the things the capcom all star team will do to him like adding strikers, giving him his DR1 voice and a tag system that won't be compatible with mines, not because there bad or anything, just not my style or how I love Franky.
As for my coding skill, I never made a mugen character before BUT I have editing many characters for balancing and improving by remove/adding moves, making sound code, worked with varibles, tag system fix, and so on. Even if my coding skills is bad and I do a crappy job on him, it wouldn't matter to you guys because your all wanting the Capcom all star version anyway (unless if you want to see my version if I make).
thanewdude07 you are aware that he doesn't have to give the sprites like he lose them and I gain them, he can just simply copy and paste and he probably haves back up. ;).
And i'm being obnoxious? unpatient, yea and I feel guilty about, forgive me, but obnoxious! I think you are seeing of me as a demanding king for his entertainment from his slaves or something like that, I know he is working hard on the sprites, that why there very good, a good mugen game or any type of game takes hard work. If they where crap like those terrible cartoon characters sprites and sonic characters sprites made by 12 years old then I wouldn't be sitting here requesting on this thread.
I was simply asking permission to use an work of an artist which are the sprites for my work, which is my game.
Maybe I was too emotional (but that how i'm like when taking about my favorite characters that I love lol :P), forgive me, I just simply requested for some sprites. -.-'

I just thought a funny assist for Frank, his PP camera, imagine, your getting beat up and than frank comes, take a shot and says "FANTASTIC!" lmao, like in Dead Rising how he takes pictures of people getting eating by zombies, falling off buildings and religious cults making sacrifices and says "FANTASTIC!" no wonder he so good at photography.

and just to let you know guys ,sean´s version gonna be just like in umvc3 and it gonna be just for cvtw I know I know,I been talking to sean and this is the easiest way to let frank be there before the full release of cvtw, the complete version of frank gonna be coded by nestor and it gonna be a public release. and the cause I´m slow at this is cause I´m still improving and using various techniques(and seen the most convenient) to make it even easy to sprite also I´ll be updating here eventually...

He's mostly just a normal guy, and not really a fighter at all. Hence why some of his moves might look a little funky. It's all part of the character :)!

Hmm because that's not a "walk slow to not get noticed" animation, why not add a little more movement to the top section instead of just the normal up and down? Hard make you picture it especially with all the work on my hands but you are greatly improving in a short time :)

I think it does need a little bit of upper body bounce, no-one keeps their torso completely stationary when they're walking. I made a tiny edit, feel free to do with it as you wish:
Just by delaying the movement of the upper body by one frame, you can create a bit of natural bounce, so that the shoulders are not perfectly in sync with the hips. You can do more with it, but the basic principle is that movement is delayed throughout the body, as one part moves it takes a few tics before other parts connected to it move (in this case, the hips move first since he's stepping off the ground, that movement travels up through the spine and then the shoulders move with a slight delay). Using the same principle I applied a slight bob to the head so it doesn't move perfectly in sync with the shoulders.
I also took the liberty of redrawing his face because quite frankly (hah!) I was never a huge fan of how it looked in your sprites... there's a lot of thick, dark lines, and I think the outline of his rustled hair is overdone. Feel free to ignore my edits, I just couldn't help change him a bit to see if I could get him closer to what I think he should look like. :)
edit: ideally there should be a little bounce in his hands too, to keep his elbows from looking completely locked in place, but I was too lazy to fiddle with redrawing the arms.

Just started with the snapshot/LVL up move. I haven't done a move like this before, so it's going to be really interesting to code it (I hope).
I don't know what you're planning for it, but you could take a look at Hinata by Fervicante & Li_kun, as it has this type of move.

Thanks Cybaster. The snapshot is actually IIRC a projectile, but the Level Up feature involves taking screenshots so you can level up and get new and powerful moves (basic, special and hyper moves).

For example, if Frank takes a picture on the 10th hit of a combo and continues the combo afterward with the aid of an assist or X Factor, if he were to take another snapshot on the 20th hit of the combo, 20 hits will be added to the first 10 giving him a total of 30 hits and an instant level 3.
Snapshot can also be used to attack an opponent from quite a large distance away. This move will interrupt many attacks and can be useful when needing to snag an extra picture for a level up.

The eyes are slightly uneven and some of the facial features are out of scale, his mouth runs a little to far in the right, and have not much detail, his right eye brow is thicker than his left, and his head is more wide and not as tall.
If you and others like it the way it is, you can keep it, I use my own custom protraints but I know you can do a better protrait, maybe i'm nitpicking but when it comes to my favorite characters, I want them perfectly done.
But that face in the last two screenshot is awesome in a humorous way, keep it going.

What would be great for this character is some moves incorporated from the game such as when frank grabs a zombie by the neck and takes a picture with it then he slams the zombies head in the ground what I would imagine for mugen is the move being used as grappling/stunning attack a variation of the 2 but this character is looking great! yes , the oponent should be facing his back and well , I´m planing on adding all his throws from the original games and the mvc games (he´ll be kind of a grappler if you decide to play him as a grappler)

Theres no moon walking there, but i can tell you this. you see how you got his waist moving back and forth? the shoulder needs to not move at all except moving up and down with the bother or move the shoulders back and forth slightly to improve the walking back. Hope that makes sense.

I did not do much changes in the size of the head, just try to round it more and that's the result.

Personally I like how it is, it doesn't have to be exactly like CVS, isn't it?? We're working to finish all basics (it leaves various crouching and aerial attacks) as well solving some bugs and adding Frank voices to get a beta for betatesters soon, we hope to get something more concrete during this month... and maybe a video ;)

I know its gonna be a pain for you to replace all those animations with a new face so for now if you want just worry about his idles if anything or you can replace them all once you get the feel of it. Doesn't really take that long to edit though. Just dont make the mistake that I did on redoing things over and over again ::) Its a learning experience so dont let it get the best of you.

It's no secret I was never a huge fan of Frank's face in these sprites... in fact I made an edit back on page 11 :P But since the topic came up again I decided to go back to my old edit and update it again.
Not super happy with this one either but I think it's an improvement over my old one, anyway. Tried to use shading to imply a 5 o' clock shadow, not sure how successful that was, though...
I still disagree completely with the decision to make his hair spiky in the sprites, BTW. Frank's hair is messy, but at such a low resolution a spiky outline makes it look like Frank has Naruto's hairstyle. If you look at this example of UMVC3 Frank (http://shoryuken.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/umvc3_week11_201_45031_640screen.jpg), you can barely make out the messy hair from the silhouette, and that's at about 4 times the resolution of your sprites!
Just my two cents. Keep up the good work!

I agree, that looks way too heavy and elaborate for a light kick. For the light kick he should essentially be staying in his crouched pose and just sticking out his leg. Light attacks typically have around 3-4 frames of startup, this animation looks like it has around that amount of unique frames before the kick comes out.
If you're set on using this as the light kick, I would definitely remove a couple of frames from the animation. Study existing SF/MVC characters for reference.

For his blocking frame, it looks like he is holding on to his camera. Perhaps you could code in a random lens flash, adding in the effect of him taking pictures of his opponent attacking him?? Thought that would be a nice touch. ;D

That's Snapshot move, when Frank take a shot and accumules points until he gets new levels and his weapons improve, just like in UMVC3 (anyone played it yet??)

it also has a non hit based level up mechanic that I wont get into just yet. That way you don't have to have my level of execution to get to level 5 lololololo
