Title: Portraits for Capcom Vs The World
Post by: N.O.Vice on August 07, 2012, 04:38:12 am
Originals:

Alterations:

I've been working on these portraits for quite awhile and I need some feedback. I do apologize about some garish differences between some of the portraits (over/undersaturation, scale differences, amount of detail, etc.) Most of these will be reworked, and the CM Punk and the Subzero will most likely be scrapped completely.

Things likely to be addressed:

I think that blue tone in Chun-Li´s chin looks a little off or don´t blend too much but goddamn that´s some sexy artwork right there

Loving the art style.

- Not a big fan or Ryu's face. He looks very young and not very Japanese.
- Is Ken supposed to smile ? Looks more like a grin to me.
- Why is Nash the only one not having a 3/4 view for the face, but a side one instead ?
- Haggar's face makes him look young too.

They all look quite awesome to me except maybe for Haggar. Head looks too big IMO. But otherwise loving the style!

-Haggar has a huge head
-Ryu looks way too young
-Isn't Jin supposed to have spikey bangs?
-Sean is updating Punk to have his more current looks with the short hair and goatee-moustache combo, so yeah that's gonna need to be redone
-I personally like the Sub-Zero one the most because it's different but the scale is way different compared to everyone else so I can understand scrapping it
-Something about Chun-Li and Morrigan's faces just irks me. Probably just me tbh.
-The colors in general could be brighter and more colorful like you did with Haggar. Again, this is probably just me.

I like the style of the artwork a lot though. It's different.

All the man in the SF cast look so femenine...

Morrigan's chin/jaw makes her look a bit man-ish. And I agree with most of the feedback already given. Aside from that, I really dig this style.

Morrigan looks manly and Chun Li just plain looks weird. Most Capcom portraits of her make her look alot more asian than she does in-game so maybe you should try that.

Why did you repost the images he posted already?
Title: Re: Portraits for Capcom Vs The World

-Ryu and Jin don't look like they're Japanese
-Chun-li doesn't look like Chinese and instead, she looks like a non-Asian
-Haggar looks too young on the face
-Morrigan looks like she's almost old
-Squall looks like he's an 80's person in facial look

...

I don't want to sound like I'm mean and offensive, but that post is the weirdest in my opinion because you reposted an image from that guy. Why I think it's weird is that you removed the quote brackets and left it unquoted. Sorry for sounding mean, but you need to be careful on where to have quote on.

Yeah why did I repost the images because I was about to write something about them SO I left it like this and decided to remember.Enso I got the point and Sean The thing was that I wanted to tell about facial feature of the picture.
Enso you already mentioned five of them.
(I expanded the picture in next tab)
Ken and Jin's hair look different and Ken has weird smile.
Mr X looks like white faced Red Ghost
Charlie,Punk and Subzero look perfect.
That was reason why I reposted the Image.

When was the last time Chun-Li and Ryu actually looked asian? Granted, I am doing my best to achieve that appearance.

What the hell is an "80's person?" I understand that you probably mean a "person from the 80's" but I don't really see or get that at all. That's the weirdest criticism so far. Squall's face is fine IMO.

Also, as far as the race thing goes, these characters hardly ever look race-accurate in Capcom art, especially Ryu, who almost never actually looks Japanese.

I think Squall looks just fine. Haggar's face reminds me of Billy Burke(he played the Wolf in Red Riding Hood). Ken's hair makes him look like a skater kid.Morrigan does look about in her early 40's. other than that the rest look fine. I can't wait to see the rest of the roster's portraits.

well those portraits are the big ones let see what would be icons, victory and versus portraits of them

Ryu, Ken and Chun Li dont look temselves
Haggar's head is a bit big
Morrigan looks like a boy
Squall's face looks a bit off.

The rest are pretty good.

ppl are too picky, IT HIS STYLE OF ART SO LET IT BE DAMN! i personally like it all. coming from a artist aswell

Well, he was looking for feedback, which is fine and I don't want people to think we're not looking for that. It just seems like stuff like Ryu's face, Haggar's head size, and Morrigan's face has been mentioned by 4 or 5 different people. I've seen the updated face for Ryu already, and while I thought Ryu's face was fine before, the new one should appease the complaints.

But I gave more feedback then that. Sorta.

So I have made some alterations for Morrigan, Chun-Li, Haggar, and Ryu. Tell me your opinion, besides adjusting colors.

The alterations are prefect

Can we not pay attention to Segatron's post when it's stupid? It's usually most of the time.

ppl are too picky, IT HIS STYLE OF ART SO LET IT BE DAMN! i personally like it all. coming from a artist aswell

Why can't we criticize someone's art just because it's his style?

As for me the only problem I have is how Squall looks like Vaan.

I think Morrigan's left (viewer's right) cheek is too pronounced.  It would look better if it was smoothed out down to her chin IMO.  Other than that, I'm loving all of these.

Morrigan's face received another update. I'm definitely liking this one more, reminds me of Renée O'Connor.

Seems cool, but the CM Punk portrait looks a bit strange, specially the arm.

Fulgore!? Fuck yeah, didn't know they were going to include him too. I'm even more hyped now.

unless Sean decides to not have Fulgore in it's all good to go. I'm just finishing up Morrigan first so I can hand her over to Sean for beta testing and tweaking.

then I'll be starting on Fulgore's sprites.

Nothing epic here, but I have been doing some sketchwork. There will be a lot of editing once they get to the painting stage, mostly scaling, redrawing the faces, and positioning.

I haven't heard from him since last year, so probably not. Though, it says he was active on August 19th, so maybe he'll respond to a PM. Last I heard from him he wanted to edit the portraits I was making because it was easier on him in the long run.
