Title: Z2 Inspired stages!

Well, by popular demand ill start this topic about the z2 inspired stages im going to make for the z2 chars.

Currently, these are my stages that are Finished/Released:

Desert stage:

They will be hosted on the z2 download page along with Noz stages too!


The purpose of this topic is to recieve feedback and ideas while im making new stages.
The one im working currently is the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.

For the moment, the stage will have transsitions between different weathers:

-Normal White (Anime/manga inspired)
-Aurora Nigth  (Budokai series inspired)
-Extreme heat       
-Extreme cold

Normal white and Aurora modes are mostly completed, also the transsitions are smooth and works well.
The problems comes with Heat and Cold mode, they are empty at the moment (just the coloured background)

It would be nice to find some nice Fire effects (capcom style) to put in the Heat mode
about cold mode, maybe some snow? blizzard? could somebody pass me some info about how that appears in the manga/show?

Well, for now the sandclock its animated, (needs animation in the other one, and also a wall clock)

Btw, please dont talk to much about music because everybody can change that and its a waste of posts! Wizzy´s music is an exception and you can talk about it as much as you like because hes awesome XD

Good to have this topic up.
The chamber is progressing nicely I see, and what a beautiful sky!

I think that you should position the characters a little higher in the stage, they don't look quite good IMO where they stand right now.

As for the cold mode, it's in the beginning of this video. A  blizzard is blowing and the place is filled with ice pillars/mountains popping out everywhere(you could add those in the background and even some in front of the characters).

Wups thats the screenie, there is more space for the shadow (the same as the other stages), i just messed it up cuting the image XD

Didnt remembered that scene, glad to see some mountains, they will add more taste to the stage for sure, i guess ill need to make them pop up.


Koju! the Lookout sure is on my plans too, but i would like to avoid making it symmetric.
That Kami sprite is just to damn good, i would try to use it for sure :P

Both Desert stages seems to be down. Intentional? Since they're going to be uploaded to the Z2 page (hopefully) soon enough.

I'll try to upload all Z2 stage on my website this weekend. I really have a lot of stuff going on right now.

The chamber stages look superb. :D
For the floor, it would be cool to see some gradient in old-school style, with only a few colors used, but with this sort of grid pattern, if you see what I mean ?
Do the sand clocks have some delta between them and the background, as it would really add more depth to the stage ?

Yeah, i know what you mean, for now im focusing on dealing with the transsitions and stage effects. Ill try to make it look more old school later :D
For the delta thing, not for the moment, but should not be a problem to separate them and the weird crystal spheres later.
The chamber sprite itself needs more details, specially the interior and the window.

Seems like people are enjoying to much the Aurora version. So what do you think about two versions?

Version 1- Aurora + some training props
Version 2- Anime white + Heat mode + Cold mode

This way will be more easy for me to deal with transsitions.

Congrats on a quick yet well deserved contributor star. Your stuff is awesome, and I'm glad to see a WIP thread as well.

I never followed the DBZ saga too closely due to my die-hard friends who told me all about it back in the day. However, I appreciated the characters and their designs, so seeing your stages come to life is a big treat when mixed with any well done DBZ character.

Perhaps within time, you could also make Dr. Gero's mainframe, or something Cell related?? Other ideas that come to mind with my limited knowledge are:

Namek's destruction.
Dragon Road... Or whatever its called... When Goku traveled across that gigantic dragon. Am I right here??
The Tree of Might
That "palace" of sorts
Frieza's ship

Just brainstorming. But the point is applying your talents to iconic DragonBall locales and transforming them into stages with your signature style.

Desert stage was meant to recreate Goku vs Vegeta from the Saiyajin saga.
And stages related to the z2 chars cast are top priority  (for example No cell games stage planned since there is no Cell saga related character)

These are mostly all stages ive planned, and it would be great if each one would have a variation:

-Namek                         (Done)  (for Frieza and possible piccolo)

-Time Chamber/ Time Chamber Night  (in process)  (for neutral, training stage)

desert stage looks fine as it is, i wouldnt even have more versions of it.


For namek as I had suggested already via pm before this, I think you could have
Namek normal ( as it is now )
Namek carnage ( strewn with corpses, there is smoke in the air and corpses of namekians all over , freeza forces are flying around in groups )
Namek Porunga ( porunga in the distance, night stage
Namek apocalypse , red water, chunks of floating mountains flying by, lightning and red sky. there are lva jets spewing in the distance


Time chamber two versions are cool, so go with those.

Goku home, I have a vectorized dbz fish if you want to add a fish on a stick by a fire.

Kami lookout normal version could have kami fading in and out.  ( that way it means it could be at any time in dbz ).
Kami lookout could have a half destructed version . Like a nightmare version, during a dark creepy night, with the full moon on the back.

Now the following are suggestions i had given noz, and im aware they are kindof too big but what the heck i will give them to you as well.


Inner storm- a stage that would be set on what appears to be floating rocks in the middle of a tornado, there would be pieces of walls ( maybe even a cow occasionally ) flying around the whole thing, as the players fought in the floating rocks in the middle. There would be lightning sparking all around the wind tunnel,  Every now and then the wind would stop and the whole set would seem to start free falling from really high up, just to have the wind startup again, picking every falling object again into the loop.


Demon's temple, it would be based on ironmugen old daimao stage, check that one out, like an update of sorts to modernize it , it would be a temple with the myriad of demonic shadows in the back, blood splatters and all, and then every now and then the demons would vanish or reappear, as if they were an illusion. with a gem on the center holding crackling energy ( and occasionally with the red eyes of daimao showing there) this stage would be based off piccolo arcade stage.
Destroyed city- a city with scattered clothes flying through, some buildings in the distance are burning, the whole town looks like a ghost town, it represents Cell having ate through a whole city.( it could be an alt for the city one you wanted to make)

Fish dinner- a deep forest stage, based on mvc forest stages, on this one, there would be a big hd fish ( I got this on my resources) on a stick cooking by a fire, it would be Goku stage. squirrels would go around ( tree tops at mvxmen had this )  whatever other animals you could include.  maybe even old grandpa gohan cottage in the distance.( im aware that this is now very similar to your goku house one)


Red Ribbon mainframe, based from apocalypse stage plus a few things from black noah, including the screens. The screens would flash android schematics ( I got some stuff here for that ) , there would be a big central tank with cell fetus, wires hanging off him , energy would shake components now and then, with eerie energy coming from the center of the stage, from behing the components.
The screens scattered around the stage would flare up with some images, mechanical parts, eyes, etc.

Iced,  desert stage wont have more variations, the ideal is one variation per stage, so the stormy version its the desert variation.
I really like your idea for the goku stage, we have seen him more fishing and eating arround the jungle than being in home XD
So as you say, we can put his home and the gohan shrine in the distance. (also i have in mind some nice re-usable sprites from capcom stages)

Red Ribbon idea is cool, but like ive said, related stages to the z2 chars have more priority.

The world tournament is a nice one also, but i dont have clever ideas on how to do it rigth now (also that stage is like in ALL the games, so lets give a shot to other locations first :) )

The hyperbolic chamber could use paralax between the sandclocks, like i said before the back sandclock could and should be more to the right so you could see both working. 

About world tournament, the best way , that hasnt been really done would be one where you would be able to see the crowds and the back wall of the tournament, maybe from the very first tournament with the crowd next to the arena.  With an alternate destroyed arena from the piccolo versus goku fight.
either that or a tournament stage from the last tournaments with the giant crowds, this one would have an alternate with a huge hole in the walls, from the majin fight.



A babidi stage would be cool if there was an fx that turned the stage into other stages while they were fighting.with a burning M fx showing up as the stage shifted.

As you can see, the chamber interior is way more detailed, also the sandclocks and those ball things have delta, so the stage have gain in depth sensation.
Added some props near the characters, A supply crate with Sayajin armors, magic beans and some hoi-poi capsules!

Those weird pixels at the background move fast in the stage, making a blizzard effect at the background (i may need to make bigger snowflakes to put over the chars too)

I would reduce the snow on that one so its just small pixels here and there, as if it just started snowing, stages where the characters are too covered up usually look very messy .

Some ice mountains rising in the horizon would look cool.

Also, this is merely a suggestion, but perhaps breaking up the elements on the temple, so that the snowclocks and etc can all be aligned at slightly different heights, as it is right now there is a single straight line under the whole thing, which is breaking your perspective very slightly.

That snow effect is nice, i may try something similar (no need to take it from that stage)

That would mess with the other modes and the snow would appear always over the chars and the chamber (even on the other modes)

(this happens because snow mode is at the very background, and other modes just appears in front of it)
So i think... to solve this, i could create a pre-made snow animation and make it appear with transparency.

-edit- oh btw iced, appearing ice blocks is planned, as for the breaking up sandcloks and lamps, is hard to explain but they are different parts with different deltas, its impossible to see this effect without moving arround the stage but it creates some depth effect :D

@Daeron: Holy shit.... Impressive work man. Wow. It's great to have such talent here in Guild. It's also completely refreshing to see something that's 100% original as opposed to the umpteenth Street Fighter 2 re-release. Well, not that good quality re-releases from Caddie and Ex Shadow are had things...

You're in a league of your own, and we all recognise it for sure. Keep up the phenomenal stage releases. My HDD has reserved space awaiting!! :lugoi:

There's a tutorial on BGCtrls in the end of the stage docs.
I also added some lines in my stage tutorial on Guild.
Finally, Tamez made awesome Youtube videos explaining BGCtrls. Watch them. ;)

Basically, you'll be giving IDs to your elements, and make them appear/disappear by changing the animations at given times, with looping times.

I will try to use them on my next stages, to much tedious to change the Time chamber stage coding now :P

What if a Gohan is one day made in Z2 style. It would look awfully stupid to have two Gohans on the same stage, but I do like the "Chichi going nuts" idea. Also, Gohan's pet dragon? Maybe flying around, cheering the fight on or sitting in the tree?

Same issue is present with Chi-Chi was with Gohan Z2, though, as she's present in Goku Z2's win pose and opening.  Best option would be multiple versions, ones with and without her and/or Gohan, but only if you're up for it.

Looks like you've got a good start on them, they look great.  I'd suggest having Piccolo on the roof, either out watching the horizon or watching the fight, but I don't know if he's still a possibility for a character down the line...

I don't think Daeron will put anyone on the stage because the Time Chamber could of had a handful of people in the background, but went for none instead. So, I'm sticking with Gohan's pet dragon as a perfect idea.
Also, different weather could be nice. Maybe a calm winter version or an autumn version.

maybe more random dinosaurs would be nice too. I dunno if you can find them. but like a t rex randomly running in the background or that pterodactyl family from the end of z would be cool. And for a night version, maybe a tub. with chichi soaking in it :3 or you could have her out doing laundry too.

Man Daeron...I don't think I've seen such BG spriting talent since Kiwi and Shin Otaru made that Thundercats stage so long ago.

Thanks for the kind words people, i thought about Pterodactyls from the start, i have some dino sprites from Namco x capcom that fits here, but ill try to edit them to look more cartoony.
T-rex would be awesome(i have another from a wolverine stage), but i dont know how it would look  in my stage, some ground shaking as he crosses the screen would be epic.

No chichi was planed, as she appears in  z2 goku´s intro/winpose   BUT i will put something from her :D (its a secret for now)
I could put Goku powerfull staff next to the door, a little fire with some meat cooking its required.

The next layer will be close mountains, you know, that kind of asian mountain:

Yeah, the building to the left was a Shrine for the 4-Star Dragonball.
And Daeron. As I said before. Your stages are the greatest. This might be my most favorite yet. I only remember his house from when I was a kid so it's very nostalgic.
As for the well idea. Maybe Icarus could be the one hiding in the well. He'd be hiding from the fight.

The dinosaur touch was amazing :P

Maybe it doesn't need more frames, but just a better animation using the existing sprites just should move slower Horizontally, and should jump vertically a bit more.

I would like to suggest avoiding the huge white flashes like the ones in the "Saiyan Pride" stage, I find them really distracting in battle. Maybe a lot more discrete, like just a light white translucent veil.

It's a wasteland from the last part of the battle, so I don't think broken houses would fit, but Polunga in the distance would be awesome. More water/flooded giant craters in the back on the sides would be closer to the actual battle too (unless it's the very last moments when it's just lava everywhere).

Polunga comes back quickly when everyone is revived and Dende wishes everyone to Earth, I think the planet is already breaking down at that point, though there's no lava yet at that point. Yeah, probably wouldn't work...

After studing Ruins of kagami stage ive decided not to use that floor, ill be using the same one of the fakeshot but with some modifications.
The left side of the stage will be near the sea, with some waves hitting the floor and stuff, the rigth side of the stage will have the lava effects, with trembling floor, high pressure gases coming out of the floor, and some lava river at the background.

Destroyed namek houses could be nice, and i want to put some fire effects somewhere.
It may be possible that stage goes wilder progresively, with more thunders and visual effects as the time passes.

You could have a whole mountain slowly rise, break apart and then collapse as lava spings out or something.

Ok, thats an actual screenshot of the real progress, implemented thunders, basic earthquakes (needs specific zone shakes) hurricanes, and lava splurts and flows.

Hard to capture all anims on a screenshot since thunders are fast

I like Iced idea of terrain going up, ill see how i can make it work, i plan on adding explosions at the far far distance and some more props.

I actually want to put some ocean at the distance with some wild tydes hitting the left part of the stage

you know that one mvc stage with the mountains and even the ruin's mountains ? you could have the ground start flat and as the stage progressed it would crack up and then those mountains ( or parts of them ) would rise slowly over the course of the fight. it would give you a shifting stage, almost alive.

Just pause then tap scroll lock till you get a good shot.  Also useful for checking for holes in stages when superjumping.

More progress, mostly shading and details, im happy with the cristal tube :D

Some possible ideas for the stage:

-Big tv in on building, showing diverse images like Mr.satan, news, villains, and some iconic places.
-Hoover cars could cross the road
-Civilians could flee from the stage at the start of the battle (would require a lot of spriting)

You could also have a "welcome to satancity" thing somewhere.

That stage really works for Gohan. Remember the episode Gohan saving the baby dinosaur bird from the circus man when their parents were searching for him while flying all over the city. You could include those parent dinosaur birds flying on the background. İt's an idea you could use. Excellent choice of stage man.

I agree. I have all of the DBZ Arcade Stages with Tekken 6's tunes playing in the background. Good stuff for sure.

Some elements/ideas could be used from Dragonball Taiksetsu and Super Sonic Warriors 2 Games.

In my opinion, this part looks too empty compared to the other side. Maybe you can draw a Dragonball character drinking the cola? I think it'd be hilarious to see on the side of the truck Cell or Frieza drinking some Z2 soda.

A character would be overkill. A Dragon Ball would be smaller, simpler, not clogging up the space, and would fit better IMO.

People keep in mind that the truck will be in movement, so complex  and detailed things could be a waste since cars and trucks runs kinda fast.
So maybe a simple idea like the Can would work better,  a character driking the cola would be hilarious but kinda stange because none of them owns a soda factory or works as a model for advertisiements.
Only character that could work for that would be Mr. Satan, and he already shows up on a giant tv at the background.

Walk fast can i use your can version? i really like how that turned out.

Im giving priority to stages related with the z2 chars being done, and i already have to finish destroying namek for Frieza, and plan out a stage for Majin Vegeta (I was thinking on a destroyed martial arts tournament or something like that)

I was kinda hoping you'd re-do it with your crazy photoshop technology :P 

I did the circles on the top of the can using straight lines, since you can't do automatic diagonal circles in MS Paint. I made the antialiasing by hand and I'm sure it's not perfect or 100% accurate on a pixel level, I'd be uncomfortable knowing it's inferior to what you were actually doing :sweatdrop:

Also, an interesting note be carefule! The "Z2 Soda" text isn't the same exact color as the curves on the bottom (they use a lighter tone). I used a combination of both to create a perception of depth, but it's so BARELY perceptible I'm not even sure you guys noticed :P

you can always go for more trademarks "Balthazar couch emporium" , "cybaster house of sandwiches" , "DaeromBurgers" , "Iced hot tea" , stuff like that.



I got a suggestion for you to check out later.

The yuyu hakushu games and their backdrops, they were all from the snes and genesis era ( the genesis game was sunset riders ) and they had really good ambiance for their very limited animation.
Even the games outside of the snes era have good ambiance

Looks perfect to me, as i said, the truck moves kinda fast so its no use to over-work things, the eye doenst have much time in-game to look for pixel details ;)

Oh and good eye with the color, i was aware of the lighter tone but i didnt mind to much :P

Iced great source/reference stuff, i must use that floor, it just looks so good, could work for Cell´s  arena too if i ever decide to make it.

Actually i was thinking on a warfare-like alternate version, long before the hitler idea.
With destroyed cars, fire and maybe some tank, and a helicopter reporting the fight, but cant find the source of that helicopter with a camera man sprite i saw in some capcom game.

I don't think they own the entire Arctic, just there was a base there in Dragonball that came up in some of the later DBZ games...

Plus, yeah, the Android 13 movie took place up there too.

By the way, with Vegeta and the ice breaking under him, is that just him being conveniently placed or is it actually interactive like that, with the ice breaking?

Well i was more inspired by these old dragon ball z games, the butoden ones.

Like they just have a bunch of generic stages like desert, forest, artic, underwater.
But expect some Red Ribbon references.

Thou you cant notice by the screenshots, this is a traveling stage, so the main ice platform in wich the players fight moves along the sea.

I know the dying namek stages is being worked on or even finished but have you ever considered earth pillars raising from the ground as if the arena was sinking into the planet itself since it's collapsing? it would be pretty dope in my opinion but i trust your choices more :p

hey I was wondering if you guys have considered making a budokai tenkaichi tournment stage or a Kame's house stage?

Yeah we have considered both but we never really got around to do it, since we are few we end up being a bit overworked.

Daeron has been making Freeza "objects" for his intro and fatalities.

Actually i was thinking on a warfare-like alternate version, long before the hitler idea.
With destroyed cars, fire and maybe some tank, and a helicopter reporting the fight, but cant find the source of that helicopter with a camera man sprite i saw in some capcom game.
Could somebody help me with that?

I actually saw that train stage in the Champ Edition trailer which I can't remember if there was ever a train episode in DB/DBZ/DBGT/DBS.
Also I've also been wondering that about the new stages since I checked Balthazar's Hyper DBZ Page, and didn't see anything added or updated since piccolo.

Edit:Okay that's weird I clicked post and then it brought me up to Advanced saying that while I was typing new replies were made. -_' and for whatever reason decided to post again?

I think that's just shortcut for how every stage like that is usually on a train with very few exceptions (ie: Skullgirls and Big Bang Beat)

skullgirls does have a train stage as well, but its irrelevant we know what it means, a "moving stage"


The new stages from the release will be added to the balth stage separately during the next days as well as all the updated characters.

Fire Mountain would make a good stage. You have a variation where it is not on fire too.

It's a nice start, but it look a little barren somehow. It's still a city even if its destroyed, right? Maybe the buildings in the background should be a bit bigger so that they catch more attention.

If it turns out well, maybe you could have two variations. The dark sky one fits with the Goku Black future, but you can also have a daytime one like when we see the Androids future.

Just gotta crack that motha up, Bobby Lee. Put some battle scars on the ground, get some scrapes and rubble scattered around, maybe a few craters here and there. Jazz it up a bit, just not so much that the stage becomes so busy it's distracting.

So a few weeks ago I saw a post from @HexPro99 on the twiiter that had a stage he created called MOON BATTLEFIELD. He confirmed to me that he did the editing, hence I asked the permission if he could do my edit and he did not answer me ...
