Title: General PC news thread
Post by: DMK on July 26, 2013, 03:45:34 am
Seeing as a majority of us here play games on Steam and every other company out there has a thread, why not dedicate one to them? Not to mention place to trade and add some buddies.
Just coming off the huge Summer sale right now, but I'm waiting for them to add the cards to Resident Evil: Revelations already. Guess I'll look to building RE6's badge at the moment. I also got a bunch of coupons, don't think I'm lookin for any trade, but I may use the Surgeon Simulator one. If anyone sees any games from the other coupons in my inventory they would like just hit me up. i don't want'em.

Got Just Cause, Left 4 Dead 2, Serious Sam 3: BFE and Killing Floor. No idea about the Steam cards nor do I care for them.

I got Final Fantasy 7 as well but that wasn't on sale.

Think of them like this:
Can be made to make friends, collect to show appreciation for a game by crafting a badge for it or use the money from selling some on the market to help save up or even pay off a game during a sale.

What you have to do with any cards you get is give them to me :haw:
Well Skullgirls is out today so I'll try to get it in a day or two. Guess I'll stop buying stuff on steam for a month or so after that, getting short of funds here, summer sale definitely had an impact on me D:
Also steam's fuck up of the day is...

Hype for what? The netcode will probably remain being plain shit.
This. Not double dipping unless the netcode is fixed. And since this is SNKP, I already have 0 faith. (https://twitter.com/Pond3r/status/365220432091168768)

Post by: S.D. on August 08, 2013, 09:57:31 pm
Seriously, I can see people excited to play this if say.... they haven't tried the console version but if they're looking forward to Online VS, then chances are that they've never suffered with KOF's shitty netcode. I know they'll regret it (I like how their "fix" to the netcode was to just remove lobbies/spectators... and that didn't really help)
Title: Re: General Steam News, Trading and other stuff thread!
Post by: Duos on August 08, 2013, 09:59:16 pm
Isn't XIII's netcode outsourced? Because the Neo Geo station games on PS3 and NGBC/02 UM on XBLA are nowhere near that shitty.
Title: Re: General Steam News, Trading and other stuff thread!
Post by: -Red- on August 08, 2013, 10:18:23 pm
The fact that this port is actually called the "steam edition" gave me a bit of hope towards an improved netcode but whatever, I'll most likely tackle on the singleplayer and local VS content most of the time :P . Besides I'll probably buy it when it hits 15 bucks or something like that, I'll have enough fighting game action with skullgirls until then.

...Yes, by the very same company who worked on the netcode for the PS2 ports and XII. Their netcode kinda works... in Japan. Where everyone is close to each other and has amazing internet connection.

New Groupees bundle - Build a Megabundle

You can get a bunch of shitty games if you're into that like me!
All the 16 Steam games adds up to like 5 bucks. Minimum is 1 dollar for 3 games I think.
Only the following games are for Steam:
Chains, Chrome + SpecForce Bundle, Crash Time 2, Grotesque Tactics 2 – Dungeons and Donuts, Grotesque Tactics: Evil Heroes, Nikopol: Secrets of the Immortals, Pacific Storm, Pacific Storm Allies, Penguins Arena: Sedna's World, Post Apocalyptic Mayhem + DLC, Robin Hood: The Legend of Sherwood, Scratches - Director's Cut, Stellar Impact, Tank Universal, Trapped Dead, Wasteland Angel

They are. It's a single key for the DN3D+SWR bundle available on steam.
Also another bundle went live a few hours ago: http://www.bundlestars.com/all-bundles/indie-rush-bundle/
I got it mostly for Rush Bros :P
Oh right, Steam's 10 years old and all we got was a lame Activision sale but at least you can get the Tomb Raider games at 75% off. I ended up buying the 3 ones from the latter gen (Before the reboot but after the old ones with shitty controls and graphics). w00t there goes my wallet.

Title: Half Life 3 Trademark filled by Valve
Post by: Bad News GBK on October 01, 2013, 10:45:07 pm
"As much as I don't want to cover Valve's trademark for Half-Life 3 in Europe, there's no getting around it. I'm physically incapable of getting my hopes up any more and would rather wait in silence for the day when the company speaks up about the game, should such a time ever arrive. The pressure, at this point, must be absurd.
So, what's the deal here? Valve's trademark application, which was filed on September 29, 2013 through the Office of Harmonization for the Internal Market, is for "computer game software; electronic game software, downloadable game software via a global computer network and wireless devices; and video game software." Good? Good."

You currently can't buy Dark Matter on steam because of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTPS_GGhMqk
This thread does a wonderful job at explaining what the hell happened so far: http://www.steamgifts.com/forum/0r1fG/dark-matter-releases-incomplete-on-steam-drama-ensues-update/page/31337

Currently there is a known issue at the end of the game. The developer is aware of the issue and they are working on a patch as a solution.
Feel free to check the steam gamehub, it's hilarious.

I find it depressing, really. Specially that they try to hide it as a bug, when it clearly isn't. Fortunately people who bought the game get the option of getting their money back, since it's impossible to know if those guys will really finish the game or not.

It's come to our attention that the gamecard for Dark Matter was not quite specific enough about the nature of the game and, as a result, it may be that some people bought the title with some misapprehensions as to how the game's story would end. Since we don't ever want to sell a game to someone because they believe it is something that it is not, we wanted to let you know about this and let you know what we're doing to make it right.
If you bought Dark Matter before 21 October 2013 at 15:00 GMT (when we updated the description to where we feel it adequately reflects the game) and you feel that the game wasn't as promised to you, please contact Support and they'll be happy to offer you full refund to your card or, if you''d prefer, games of equal or lesser value to the sale price of Dark Matter (which is $13.49).
they say its not a bug it was always like that and the game is episodic.

Meanwhile, in another instance of a Kickstarter game that is getting taken down but is a lot quieter:
7 Days to Die (http://7daystodie.com/) just got the banhammer from Valve because it was discovered that the developers blatantly stole a model and attack animation of Killing Floor's Clot specimen for their default zombie. The story goes that TWI has been trying to contact them for awhile, got no response, called their attorney on it, STILL no response, and finally issued a DMCA takedown, and... well they didn't respond and now the game's gone.
No news stories are covering it for some reason, but there's a thread on Reddit about it, featuring TWI's attorney (http://www.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/1opkxl/a_dmca_takedown_notice_has_been_filed_against_7/).
What really hurts about this? They had a kickstarter for the game that was amazingly successful (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/7daystodie/7-days-to-die-zombie-survival-game) (including people that spent THOUSANDS of dollars to help fund it)

Speaking of Killing Floor, the Halloween Event started, and if you missed the Portal 2 achievements, you have another chance to get them again! Now for a review of the new content of what I've seen so far.
The new Objective Mode map (Fright Yard) DEMANDS that you play with a Team. There are a few puzzles that are almost impossible without teammates to help you out. For example, the crane puzzle requires someone to stand on the plate while the others kill the zeds trying to attack him. If you're solo, you WILL run out of ammo, forcing you to step off the plate, making you lose some progress until you get back on. The Bloat bile harvesting challenge is also pretty bad, in that you cannot allow other zeds to get into the vats (if you let three get in, you have to start over). Finally in the gas mission, you have to spend money to gamble on slot machines while zeds are attacking you. Afterwards it gets fairly normal.
I bought the US VS THEM Weapons Pack (two community weapons, two TWI weapons) and I will say that they're quite well-made, and while they've yet to replace any of my mainstays, they have their uses. To me, the community weapons win, hands down. The Blower Thrower almost feels like a flamethrower for the Medic class (except you're shooting zed vomit instead of fire), and the Seal Squeal lets you remote attach explosives to enemies and turn them into time-bombs. The TWI weapons are okay but kinda boring (Zed 2.0 shoots plasma balls at rapid fire, Seeker 6 shoots guided missles that are really terrible at locking on. SNORE).
No way will you get me to buy that Camo weapon pack. And this is coming from a guy who bought both of the Golden Weapons packs (hey, they needed to go with the Steampunk weapons!)
Reggie The Rocker. I finally get my chance to pretend to be a coked out rock star has-been. His audio clips are pretty fun to listen to, and are borderline incomprehensible. The main downside, however, is that he has very few lines (I confirmed this by going through his voice files in the SDK). Damn shame, he could've been the next Mr. Foster for this game
Loving the new Trader interface, which sorts all the weapons into tab categories. AND you can favorite your mains. Very useful.
Spoiler, click to toggle visibilty
Killing Martel Halliday was kinda satisfying after doing all those annoying objectives. It was so cathartic to take him out

yeah, it's a glitch random people have encountered.
In addition to the Valve-developed prototype box, third-party manufacturers will be making their own Steam Machines. Valve's attempt at taking over your living room will go into full effect in 2014. One of the first hardware partners to announce an official Steam Machine is iBuyPower.
The company will have two models: Gordon and Freeman. According to Engadget, the two consoles will be identical, except for the light bar around the middle. One will be clear while the other will be black when not illuminated. There's no details on what's inside the box, but iBuyPower says it will be able to play "all Steam titles in 1080p resolution at 60fps."
lol all steam titles @ 1080p and 60 fps

Title: Re: General Steam News, Trading and other stuff thread!

Enemy Within is a DLC for the PC version, I'm not sure how it works like on consoles. You can probably get the whole thing for less than 30 bucks on PC if you get a discount for Enemy Within somewhere (Probably Green Man Gaming since it wont get a discount on steam). Besides XCOM EU is best played on PC.
I played a lot of XCOM EU and a bit of Dark Souls. I really hope Namco actually removes GFWL from the game, just for that alone I would rather recommend XCOM EU over DS since it has full steamworks integration (Cloud saving is amazing for this type of games) and it's also really fucking hard if you play it on classic or impossible mode.
I need to do some damage control. Almost 30 bucks are gone, although that includes gifts for friends, I actually spent very little all things considered! Gotta love PC sales.

Post by: Nanashi_1337 on November 28, 2013, 11:29:42 pm
Yeah, I saw a gameplay of Criken being obliterated in Classic mode so I thought it was a nice challenge. If Dark Souls uses GFWL then I guess I'll pass. I hope the yet-to-come Dark Soul 2 doesn't use it.
Will check more videos about XCOM but so far I think I'm convinced with this game. Won't buy the DLC right away though.
Title: Re: General Steam News, Trading and other stuff thread!
Post by: -Red- on November 28, 2013, 11:34:19 pm
Dark Souls 2 is confirmed to be a full steamworks game and it's actually being developed for PC FIRST so we're going to get the superior version now.
Feel free to buy the cheap DLC for XCOM EU. You don't really need to buy Enemy Within right now, the game is a full fledged game without that and in fact I encourage you to play it without that DLC a few times while you wait for a discount for that major DLC just so you can see how the game works like without it. You definitely have enough to do while waiting for said discount to happen.
Best thing about XCOM EU is definitely the music, from the same composer who did the Deus Ex Human Revolution soundtrack so it's freaking amazing. Pretty much what dragged me to this game to begin with.

Post by: GOH on December 17, 2013, 11:12:03 am
If you were one of the lucky 300, you received a Steam Machine from Valve for beta testing purposes. Corey Nelson happened to be one of the chosen ones, and he's sharing his experiences on YouTube.
A video from Nelson (via CVG) shows SteamOS in action. As evidenced by the video, the operating system doesn't allow you to do much beyond run Steam. The "desktop" is pretty bare-bones at the moment. However, the Steam-on-TV experience looks rather smooth, with the transition from client to game looking quite silky. Take a gander.

We don't have prepaid cards here. Or should I say we probably have but nowhere near my place :| , and I really don't want to talk about shipping anything, like a prepaid card, to my house, that would require me to wait in front of it with a shotgun for days so no neighbor steals my stuff once it arrives, IF the postal service even arrives.
EDIT: Although they probably sell prepaid card codes as well right? I should take a look at that but then I have no idea how would I pay for that and fuck the current pesos=dollar conversion :P

Buy all the BIT.TRIP games, they're 80% off if not more and totally worth it! A friend from the PAYDAY community offered his help to me to buy MGR from Amazon so I could avoid any region restrictions that were unjustly applied to South America. I'm a happy (Although less rich) man, I regret nothing.

Just to put things clear (Since the store's wording opens room for some doubts) all you have to do is click on the install button from the store and it's yours. All the poor people stuck with shitnet, don't worry, you don't really need to INSTALL it today. Claim the game today and feel free to install it later.

HAHAHAH, was just about to post the trailer.
The only good thing coming out of this is that it is 60FPS out of the gate because breaking it in the original Ubisoft port fucked everything up. What sucks is this also comes with those terrible prerendered cutscenes and thus the enlarged file size. 20$ is far too big of an asking price or at least should of had a deal for buying it early around 12-15$.
Title: Re: General Steam News, Trading and other stuff thread!

60 FPS being the only good thing? That's a weird way to say "I'm happy for full steamworks support and native kb+m and controller support" :V
It's a cool price, and I never finished (More like barely played) RE4. Would buy it if it wasn't because of my huge backlogs of games that I actually want to play right now, so I guess I'll just wait for a 50% off sale or something.

I consider him lucky, you only get one chance to really experience a game for the first time and hes doing it on one of the better versions. My first time finishing the entirety was on the PS2 and even with the added costumes and modes the visuals were terrible even on my crappy TV back then.

I know right? It's even worse because I actually finished RE6 lol. But seriously, that PC port was just too depressing for me to play, even with the mods. At least all the waiting for a better version paid off! I'll enjoy it a lot more than people who played this game to death by now I bet, AND I'll be playing one of the best versions :V
It goes without saying that we're going to get better texture mods for this one as well quite fast (From what I've read the shitty PC version has some texture mods that look better than the HD version ones). The RE modding community is quite active.

Man fuck I'm bad. It was only a little over a year since I played my Wii version! The only reason I could think they picked this version was due to it being slightly easier, otherwise porting the Wii version over with higher textures should have been easy. Like stupidly easy with less then a month of dev time if that.
Title: Re: General Steam News, Trading and other stuff thread!
Post by: -Red- on January 27, 2014, 06:58:25 pm
The steam version has real time cutscenes, they aren't prerendered. The only prerendered ones are the cutscenes that were exclusive to that Ada mode from PS2.
You can also choose between original and HD textures in case you want to play a version of the game that looks closer to its original counterpart.

MS2 was a far better, less quarter-grab-fest than 3. You really needed skill to get far in that one.
Although I will concede, it was the last GOOD traditional Metal Slug entry in the series.

It was MS2 on QUARTER-GRABBING steroids.
I played MS2 for years at the Arcades, so to me Metal Slug X was a bastard child reminiscent to KOF 2002 EXTRA piece of shit that I refused to play. My opinion, ladies and gentlemen.

ms3 is by far the best ms imo. Yea it took a fuck load of quarters to beat(or fechitas when i used to play) but damn it was worth it. Fuck i love that game to death. I can master the first 2 levels without dying and rescuing all the people but its gets to intense. I never really liked x either it was just a color swap of 2 right? with different enemy locations and stuff.

Actually, production-value wise, YES Metal Slug 3 is a masterpiece. The survivors of the Nazca Team had really mastered their craft by then, and the game got pretty creative with Routes and everything.
I am being a bit harsh on my judgement basing it in the Arcade experience, but as a whole game, the script is great, the levels get very creative, and it all goes into epic proportions. It is a great game indeed.

I think the biggest difference was the removal of a lot of the slowdown that plagued 2. And also it added Iron Lizards, that alone should be enough.

Post by: Niitris on January 29, 2014, 12:28:14 am
X added a lot of things that 2 didn't have (it ran on 3's engine), but the slowdown issue is presumed to be the main reason.
Stealth beta keys were being handed out (testing the game's functionality and it's online). GGPO/rollback-style netcode confirmed. (https://twitter.com/mauvecow/status/428031220761366528)

So you think "Couch-Koop" is the perfect tag for a Beat 'em up? xD
Title: Re: General Steam News, Trading and other stuff thread!
Post by: -Red- on February 13, 2014, 07:46:49 pm
We had this discussion around here a few times already. Fighting games and beat 'em ups are not the same genre since the early 90's. Beat 'em ups are games like Double Dragon Neon (Already has the tag by now) or Streets of Rage. That's why not a lot of people care about that tag when it comes to fighting games.

Our tentative start dates were originally March 24th to March 31st, but those dates were hinged upon how solid our Beta build would be by these dates. We don't want to put anyone into a game world that collapses right as you enter the theater! Now, it's definitely not at that extreme level, but we are trying to minimize some areas of concern and implement a few more items before we can start the Beta.
So the Beta is going to be moved to a later date closer to April (cross our fingers). If you are still receiving these emails then that means you'll still be getting a Beta Key as soon as it starts. We will be keeping you updated with news and answers to your questions through these e-newsletters.

A lot of people were truly stupid when this happened. If you know there's a virus and/or that you've been infected for playing GMod then stop playing the game ffs. Some of them were infected and still went and played again, spreading the virus to other servers that were vulnerable to it, and others did know about the virus, still joined a server and they got themselves infected for not being careful.
Seriously, human stupidity is the most dangerous thing in situations like this one.

I wonder if whoever did the ports of DMC4, RE5 and I think even the past DR games got too pricey or something. I don't think it did well even being one of the few games on Xbox a year back so maybe this is being pushed to make back that money. It certainly comes off like they should of kept it multiplat and the MS money dried up in rushing this out for the consoles release because even if it was fun this could have been tons better. Dead Rising 1 being proof of that.

So how do I get the new weapons, without having to buy them? Is there a special map or something, or am I forced to grind/idle for them if I want them?

This "flag" thing (in which a number of people from a team can get up to 3 games for free in their wishlist if they get between 1st and 3rd place) doesn't work at all LOL. Instead of being close matches, there's always a team that has a big advantage over others, making it completely pointless to even bother trying if your team is in 4th or 5th place. I'm sure sales have probably increased because of it, if there's so many fools that keep buying cards in order to get the medals.

Yeah, Valve changed the way the event worked like starting on the 6th day because people were trying to make each team win twice through the whole contest (Chech results for day 1 to 5). Now that they also give prizes to second and third place it became a deathmatch and red is winning all the time :(

Just bought it. Going to play it a little later, as I'm currently playing another one, but I didn't want to miss an oportunity like that to get it for a 80% discount. And I have an Xbox 360 controller for PC, so if it's compatible then I'm ready for it.
And LA Noire has received the same treatment too, so if anybody here hasn't played it yet I highly recommend you to buy it.

Battleblock Theater
Rogue Legacy
Mercenary Kings
making sure I'm all Alternate suited up when Ultra SF4 hits
buying shit in Marvel Heroes
I can't make the call myself because I'm apparently a weak willed indecisive shit.

Battleblock Theater, but wait until it's a flash/daily deal again. Most likely will at the end of the sale (Encore).

Rogue Legacy also has potential to get another flash sale, too. And I think both of them together are cheaper than that SSFIV DLC.

It's really sad that they finally did an event that wasn't ridiculously silly, but that it will probably the last big update to Killing Floor as development on the sequel continues.
Spoiler: my opinions(click to see content)
I really love how this event is being handled. Whereas the usual seasonal events are more... well, seasonal and have stupid shit like zombies turning into reindeer (for Christmas) or circus freaks (Summer), this event seems to be continuing the story that the original Killing Floor established. I love how serious the tone is in this one considering the last major event featured a drug-addict fighting rednecks.
I have mixed feelings about the new Objective Mode map. I love the setting of it, and the general atmosphere gives off a bigger feeling that you're isolated in a post-apocalyptic world, and that there's more at stake compared to Steamland or Fright Yard. The sad thing is that the non-combat objectives are pretty basic, and mostly consist of "carry item from Point A to Point B." At least the objectives aren't anywhere near as infuriating as Fright Yard, but they could've been more inventive.
If you ever wondered why the Patriarch is always the last boss even there's apparently only one, you'll get your answer soon enough.
Why is Mr. Foster's voice different when he wears the Magma getup? Granted I know all the dudes have one of two different voicepacks, but why would they make Mr. Foster use the other voicepack?
Neon HSG-1 Shotgun is now my main firearm.

There's been a few incidents in which you could question Steam for even allowing certain games to be possible to buy from it. Check articles for the games Earth 2066 and Air Control to know what I'm talking about.
Tbh though, in this case they're making it so obvious that I wonder if they're doing it as a joke in order to critizise Steam. Who knows.

More "shovelware" to test the PC audience and see if they're interested in the franchises. Of course, barely any people will buy it and will instead wait for a bundle or something (Hello Isuka!) and will end up giving the higher ups the wrong impression.

ggxxnet itself is an amazing modification; not ONLY content in providing online multiplayer, it adds replays, a palette editor, GGPO-style adjustable input delay, match spectating, and it even fixes some extraneous issues like being unable to adjust window size. It deserves some time in the spotlight, which is why I'm happy to give it a bit of promotion in the hopes that more people will end up benefiting from it.

There are some changes of gameplay to say CS:Extended is really different compared to CP. Chrono Phantasma has Overdrive, Crush Trigger (plus all bars now are divided in 4 parts, not just Jin), Overdrive Guard Cancel (in the CP2 version) and no more Gold Break Burst and Guard Primers. Can't remember if there's more. So yeah, it's quite different to CS:Extended in terms of gameplay.

So Steam has been doing some kind of event in which you can trade your cards and other things for gems that you can use in an auction to get games for free. Obviously some people don't get the "for free" part and start buying the gems. Good luck beating guys who spend 20000 gems to get one game.
Title: Re: General PC news thread
Post by: -Red- on December 18, 2014, 06:49:21 pm
Who cares, the auction event is about to end in 10 minutes, then all you'll be able to do with the gems for now is just create booster packs for trading cards.
THE WINTER SALE STARTS TODAY THOUGH, so you'll be able to get the very same game for 5 dollars instead of 20 (Because 1000 gems = 1.10 dollars so far).

WINTER SALES HAS STARTED. Unfortunately there's so many people visiting it right now that the Steam Store tends to crash.
You can also vote for games to get good discoumpts. Ffs, I hope Spiderman 2 doesn't win in the current vote. Btw, each vote round is every 24 hours. I'm surprised, since IIRC it was for smaller amounts of time, like 4-6 hours I believe.

I really like that they attempt to put more and more console games to PC using Steam, but I hope they don't turn them into bad ports. Some of them don't even bother with keyboard compatibility for example. I do have a controller, but for some games I wish I didn't have to use one.
And as for the games, Akiba's Trip is an OK game, but only if you understand the references they do, otherwise you won't understand what they're talking about and most likely will get bored that it's always the same pattern, go to a place, fight and go back. Hyperneptunia is a good game, but only if you like its gameplay, which I was never able to get used to.
